IEs for Linux 2.0.5/2.5 Beta 6
IEs for Linux is a simple Bash Script program that installs Internet Explorer 6, 5.5 and 5 on Linux using Wine. more>>
IEs for Linux project is a simple Bash Script program that installs Internet Explorer 6, 5.5 and 5 on Linux using Wine. The whole process is automatic and very easy.
What is the magic?
The magic of IEs4Linux is to use full browsers downloads instead of using that boring install process. The script automatically downloads full versions of IE from the Evolt Browser Archive. Then installation is done completely behind the scenes! You dont need to click on anything to install IE6, IE5.5 and IE5 - with FlashPlayer 8!
Who is the target public?
WebDesigners that want to move to Linux but still need to test their sites on IE. The IEs installations are smaller than usual because they include only the necessary files to have a good test browser (there is no Outlook, Media Player etc). Please, dont use any of these IEs to navigate!! Get Firefox!
Whats New in 2.0.5 Stable Release:
- The mirror for downloading MSIE was changed.
Whats New in 2.5 Beta 6 Development Release:
- New: Kommander GUI finished (advanced dialog)
- New: IE7 proxy configuration hack (see below)
- Improved: download output
- Improved: other programs should find IE now (as Jim suggested here)
- Improved: all temp files now go to ~/.ies4linux/tmp to avoid complications
- Other bug fixes

The Plastic File System 1.11
The Plastic File System is a module for providing virtual file systems in user space. more>>
The Plastic File System project is an LD_PRELOAD module for manipulating what the file system looks like for programs. This allows virtual file systems to exist in user space, without kernel hacks or modules.
PlasticFS includes the following file systems:
chroot
The chroot filter may be used to simulate the effects of the chroot(2) system call, in combination with other filters.
dos
The dos filter may be used to simulate an 8.3 DOS file system.
log
The log filter may be used to transparently log file system access, similar to the strace command.
shortname
The shortname filter may be used to simulate file systems with shorter filenames.
smartlink
The smartlink filter may be used to expand environment variables in symbolic links, using the usual $name notation.
upcase, downcase, titlecase and nocase
The upcase filter to make file names appear to be in upper-case when listed. File names are case- insensitive when being opened, etc. The downcase filetr is similar, except it converts to lower-case, titlecase capitalizes, and nocase is simply case insensitive without altering the filenames.
viewpath
The viewpath filter may be used to make a set of directory trees look like a single directory tree. (Also known as a union file system.) All modifications take place in the first directory in the list.
Aka: union and translucent
Note: Filters may be piped from one to the next, forming powerful combinations.
PlasticFS is currently dependent on the implementation of the GNU C Library. It is self configuring using a GNU Autoconf generated configure script.
Enhancements:
- Build problem fixed.

Xtra Screen Hacks 0.1
Xtra Screen Hacks is a collection of graphics display modes that are meant to be run with a daemon such as XScreenSaver. more>>
Xtra Screen Hacks is a collection of graphics display modes that are meant to be run with a daemon such as XScreenSaver.
"Daisy" draws spinning flowers, and "Twinkle" draws a twinkling star field.
Compilation of Xtra Screen Hacks depends only on xlib.
Installation:
The configure script is not up and running yet, so the Makefiles and config.h are hacked versions of the ones xscreensavers configure script generated on the authors machine. If your system differs from the authors (i686 Debian GNU/Linux) then the build will probably not work for you, unless you hack the Makefiles and possibly config.h to modify the variables and defines.
If the Makefiles and config.h are ok, then simply run
$ make
to generate the binaries. They will be in the hacks directory.
If you have a copy of XScreensaver installed from the tarball, run
$ make install
If not, you will need to copy the files to their target directories by hand. Search for deluxe, deluxe.xml, and deluxe.1 (or deluxe.man, deluxe.6x.gz, etc) using locate, find, or whereis to figure out where they should go. The binaries and xml files must be in the correct directories
to work properly with xscreensaver-demo.
You will need to add entries to your .xscreensaver file by hand. Open $HOME/.xscreensaver in your favorite text editor and paste the following two lines into the "programs" section:
--snip----------------
- daisy -root n
- twinkle -root n
--snip----------------
Then run xscreensaver-demo to activate and configure the hacks.
If you dont have XScreensaver at all, just enjoy the hacks in an X window.
If make install worked for you, type
$ make uninstall
when you no longer want the new screen hacks.

Harvs Hamshack Hack 06
Harvs Hamshack Hack is a remaster of the KNOPPIX distro for Amateur Radio Operators (Hams). more>>
Harvs Hamshack Hack is a remaster of the KNOPPIX distro for Amateur Radio Operators (Hams).
This project is directed primarily at Amateur Radio enthusiasts (Hams) who have no prior experience with LINUX. Hopefully, experienced LINUX users (perhaps, even a "guru" or two) will give it a spin and offer corrections and suggestions for improvement ... in fact, they are obligated to do so!
The CD contains a complete LINUX-Knoppix operating system and enough software to accomplish the usual tasks we all perform daily from our homes ... web browsing, email, letter writing, etc.
In addition, there is a huge library of programs for our Amateur Radio hobby.
The Hamshack Hack is a "Live CD". As a "Live CD" system, no installation to your machines hard drive is necessary. The whole package will run off the CD by building a "ram disk" in your machines memory. As soon as you re-boot your machine, the LINUX system vaporizes and youll be back with whatever system is installed on your hard drive.
To obtain your very own copy of the "the Hack", you must download the "hamshack.iso" image file and then, using your favorite CD burner (I use K3B on Linux, or Nero on Windows), burn the image to a CD. Pick the "Burn CD Image" option, else youll end up with just another copy of the .iso file. Then, when the smoke clears, youll boot your machine with this new CD.

Emblems Hack is a simple hack to kdelibs-3.5.5 (and 3.5.6) that adds basic emblem support, like in GNOME. (It doesnt use the same format, though.)
There is currently no GUI to select emblems for files, so to set an emblem, run this command: attr -s emblem -V icon-name file
icon-name can be either a valid KDE icon name or an absolute path (e.g. /home/user/icon.png).
Currently, emblems are not drawn on thumbnail previews. Ill attempt to fix this in the next version.

Crash Recovery Kit for Linux 2.6.11.10
Crash Recovery Kit for Linux is a Linux distribution for system recovery. more>>
Crash Recovery for Linux sounds a bit superfluous. Linux is regarded as one of todays most stable Operating Systems. In the case of some hardware failure like a broken disk it can however be handy.
Of course your machine doesnt have to have linux installed to make use of the CRK kit. There are several uses and purposes for the CRK to be used. To name a few :
- recovery of a trashed LILO boot record. How many times does it happen that some person installs windows 98/95 after he/she installed linux? Well in that case windows 9X just overwrites the MBR record and linux wont be able to boot anymore.
- backup over the network in the form of tar.gz tarballs. Both FAT16, FAT32, ext2 and all filesystems which Linux supports in a read/write fashion can be taken care of. The strong part of the CRK is when a disk is replaced or repartitioning is being done. The CRK boots a complete mini linux with networking where all possible hardware which is inside the Linux kernel is available.
- Testing hardware of new intel based machines.
- Detecting versions and types of hardware. The Linux kernel holds a large database of hardware supported. Booting a linux kernel doesnt only resolve if the hardware is ok, it also show its specs. This can be handy if one wants to check-out an old/new PC which is for sale.
- Recovery of a misconfigured or hacked Linux system. Well that can happen. /etc/fstab can be wrong or the root password is unknown etc.
- make a tape backup of a disk which cant be booted anymore.
The CRK is based on RedHat Linux. I have always used RedHat systems, thats why. When my system needed maintenance the rescue floppy image which RedHat supplies didnt fullfill my needs.
Thats why i created the CRK. Lately i use Mandrake. How and why the CRK was created read the short history. The CRK is licensed under the GNU Public License (GPL).

fairly fast packet filter 1.5.0
The fairly fast packet filter (FFPF) is an approach to network packet processing. more>>
The fairly fast packet filter (FFPF) is an approach to network packet processing that adds many new features to existing filtering solutions like BPF.
fairly fast packet filter is designed for high speed by pushing computationally intensive tasks to the kernel or even network processors and by minimising packet copying.
By providing both access to richer programming languages and explicit extensibility, it is also considerably more flexible than existing approaches.
FFPF provides a complete solution for network monitoring that caters to all applications available today. Exploiting its extensibility, the language can even be used as a meta-filter to `script together filters from other approaches, such as BPF.
Main features:
- fast: processes significantly more packets per second than LSF (reference)
- scalable: transparently supports hardware assist, like that given by the Intel IXP2x00 network processors
- backward compatible: supports all existing libpcap based applications
- extensible: separates functionality from the framework. FFPF currently ships with implementations of BPF, Aho Corasick, Boyer Moore Horspool, and many more
- modular: new functions can be written in as little as 3 lines of code
- secure: relies on Keynote for authentication and resource control
- open and standard adherent: licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It implements the Monitoring API (MAPI) draft as designed by the EU-SCAMPI consortium
Enhancements:
- enabled kernelspace processing
- enabled all 5 buffer implementations (Continuous, Fixed-size slot, Variable sized slot, Double ring and Index)
- added TCP stream reassembly and early implementation of zero-copy reassembly
- added PCAP input and output support, for userspace testing and offline use
- added additional minor functions: TCP Synprotect, output to files, ...
- added support for UDEV
- extended controlplane: flowspaces can now be queried for live state
- fixed up many bugs, hacks and irregularities.

- ability to rip sprites and music for your own personal use
- easier to organize and no stacks of cartridges that scare off non-nerdish women.
- filters can be used to enhance graphics on old games.
Snes9x is the result of well over three years worth of part-time hacking, coding, recoding, debugging, divorce, etc. (just kidding about the divorce bit). Snes9x is coded in C++, with three assembler CPU emulation cores on the i386 Linux and Windows ports.
Currently there are many ports of Snes9x available, please check the download page to see if a port exists for your system.
Enhancements:
- Pseudo-hires rendering flush, Old 2xsai endian fix
- Added oops auto-snapshot support
- Anomies control remapping patch
- Support for IPS patches in the zip file
- Config file for Unix/X11 and Unix/SVGA

Xphone 2.0
Xphone is made for users who intend to hook their modem up to external speakers or their sound card and use it as a speaker . more>>
Xphone is made for users who intend to hook their modem up to external speakers or their sound card and use it as a speaker .
By default you get a half duplex speaker phone. Try full duplex at your own risk.
If it locks up type killall chat at a prompt to try to get back.
Also if it locks up try running minicom and quitting it without resetting the modem to initialize the serial port.
The preferences menu has some good facilities to play with.
Select either half duplex or full duplex:
Half duplex doesnt seem to have any problems. Full duplex appears to only work on a few modems and it may lock yours up. More importantly full duplex may pop your speakers.
If yours locks up execute "killall chat" at a command line to get back.
Select a modem device:
The serial device your modem is connected to: (/dev/modem)
Select a chat command:
Xphone uses chat syntax to communicate with the modem. Set this to whatever your chat command is (/usr/sbin/chat). Some versions of chat have a -S flag which may improve serial port performance so you can also try "/usr/sbin/chat -S".
Compilation notes:
Libc6 users can build it by typing make in this directory. The standalone executable is dropped in xphone/
Hacks and problems:
Full duplex doesnt work on my modem. Serial port interface sometimes doesnt happen. GUI toolkit cant close sockets to the X server.
Enhancements:
- Fix hang on startup because the default volume setting was out of range.
<<lessBy default you get a half duplex speaker phone. Try full duplex at your own risk.
If it locks up type killall chat at a prompt to try to get back.
Also if it locks up try running minicom and quitting it without resetting the modem to initialize the serial port.
The preferences menu has some good facilities to play with.
