GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for projects ranging from small one-off projects to complete application suites.

GTK+ is free software and part of the GNU Project. However, the licensing terms for GTK+, the GNU LGPL, allow it to be used by all developers, including those developing proprietary software, without any license fees or royalties.

GTK+ is based on three libraries developed by the GTK+ team:

- GLib is the low-level core library that forms the basis of GTK+ and GNOME. It provides data structure handling for C, portability wrappers, and interfaces for such runtime functionality as an event loop, threads, dynamic loading, and an object system.
- Pango is a library for layout and rendering of text, with an emphasis on internationalization. It forms the core of text and font handling for GTK+-2.0.
- The ATK library provides a set of interfaces for accessibility. By supporting the ATK interfaces, an application or toolkit can be used with such tools as screen readers, magnifiers, and alternative input devices.

GTK+ has been designed from the ground up to support a range of languages, not only C/C++. Using GTK+ from languages such as Perl and Python (especially in combination with the Glade GUI builder) provides an effective method of rapid application development.

As the name suggests, this little program lets you change your Gtk+ 2.0 theme. The aim is to make theme preview and selection as slick as possible.
Themes installed on the system are presented for selection and previewed on the fly. For a comprehensive demonstration theres a large variety of widgets.
It was originally derived from Gtk Theme Switch, but what started out as a hack to remove various nuisances now shares no code whatsoever anymore with the original.

Gtk# is a .Net language bindings for Gtk+ and selected Gnome libraries.

Gtk# provides tools to bind GObject based libraries for use by Mono/.Net applications in addition to a set of assemblies that binds the Gtk+ libraries and several Gnome libraries.

The effort essentially boils down to an exercise in PInvoke against the C
dynamic libraries. It may end up being slow as hell, but well see when we get
there and adjust accordingly.

Booting Ubuntu To RAM is an article aims to document the process of creating a customized Ubuntu that loads an image from the hard disk to RAM, then boots an entire Ubuntu session out of RAM. It is intended for intermediate to advanced Ubuntu users who are familiar with the shell, and may have limited experience customizing the livecd (LiveCDCustomization) and shell scripting. We will customize a LiveCD and copy it to the hard drive, and make a few modifications to bootup scripts so that it copies to RAM via our good friend tmpfs.
WARNING: The author asserts that this procedure works for him, but cannot guarantee that this procedure works for anyone else. Although this procedure is meant to be 100% safe, it is feasible that there may be mistakes, or a chance of misunderstanding the instructions in a manner that causes loss of data. Please make a backup and do not attempt on mission critical systems. Read through this article thoroughly, and do not attempt if you do not comprehend or feel comfortable about any of the instructions!
CAUTION: I hope this is intuitively obvious, but Ill humor you and state it bluntly: Changes you make under the live session are NOT saved and WILL BE LOST when you reboot or shut down. Dont save anything important to the "home directory" and expect it to still be around! If you want to save data permanently, mount a permanent medium (such as your hard drive), plug in a thumbdrive, or use some network functionality built into Ubuntu to save your data to a non-volatile destination.
There are many cases where one would like to boot Ubuntu to RAM:
- Performance: The desktop performance is dramatically improved. A 400MB squashed filesystem in RAM, that holds 1200MB of data, is read back on a 1.6GHz Core Duo in about 3 seconds, including decompression time.
- Power, Noise, Durability: Although modern hard disks dont use much power compared to other system components, this may still be important for some. In laptops, hard disks are often the noisiest components, so this setup can reduce system noise. With the hard disk spun down, a laptop can potentially withstand greater shocks without damage.
- Abrupt poweroff: Since the hard disk is only momentarily used in read-only mode during boot, then never touched again, there are few or no negative consequences of an abrupt poweroff. If a system is used where power is inconsistent, or the system is regularly used in a context where fast shutoffs are required, this is very handy.
- Privacy: Anything you do in this session are lost when you reboot or power off. This is great for kiosks or other systems where permanent modification are not desired. (Note that by default the livecd user has full sudo access, so potentially a malicious user can still make permanent changes by mounting the hard drive and following this HOWTO)

Gtk+ Hack is a graphical front-end for the roguelike game NetHack and its variants based on Gtk+ 2.x.

It supports playing on a local machine as well as connecting to a remote server over the internet.

Gtk+ Hack has its origins in the JNetHack project before being incorporated into SlashEM. I am in the process of unbundling Gtk+ Hack from SlashEM

Efax-gtk is a GUI front end for the efax fax program. Efax-gtk can be used to send and receive faxes with a fax modem, and to view, print and manage faxes received.
It also has a socket interface to provide a "virtual printer" for sending faxes from word processors and similar programs, and can automatically e-mail a received fax to a designated user, and automatically print a received fax.
To compile and run efax-gtk-3.*, the GTK+-2.* and libsigc++ libraries must be installed. GTK+-2.* comes with Gnome-2. The README file referred to above provides further information about required versions of libsigc++, and it can be downloaded here: libsigc++ . The program is known to compile with gcc-2.95.3, gcc-3.2, gcc-3.3, gcc-3.4 and gcc-4.0, and should compile with any other standards compliant compiler.
To use the program you must also have ghostscript (gs) installed (this is included in practically all Linux/Unix-type distributions). You do not need to separately download and install efax - the standard efax-gtk packages in the Download section below include the necessary efax source code.
To use the supplied mail_fax script (which will automatically mail a received fax to a specified user), you will also need nail. This can be obtained here, if it is not included in your distribution: nail
Version 3.* of efax-gtk does not use gtkmm. That dependency was removed on going from version 2.2.16 to version 3.0.0. Functionally, version 2.2.16 is identical to version 3.0.0.
Enhancements:
- A provision for printing and viewing the logfile has been added.
- The Greek translation has been updated.
- Other minor changes and bugfixes were made.

gtk-splitter can split files into smaller pieces and combine them back together. It can also generate a DOS batch file so that the split files can be combined on DOS/Windows systems. gtk-splitter is good for working around file limitations with floppy disks, email attachments, etc.
