Reaper 0.98.2

Reaper 0.98.2

Reaper project is a fly around and shoot stuff 3D game. more>>
Reaper project is a fly around and shoot stuff 3D game.
Reaper is a graphics-intensive 3D-game where you fly a spaceship over a planet completing combat missions.
Apart from being a creature that tends to consume all free time of those involved, leaving them robbed of the chance of ever living a normal life, it is a 3D-game.
To clarify some more, it could be classified as a space combat simulator (well, you dont fly in space, you fly much closer to the ground, but you do pilot spaceships, so.
Enhancements:
- Cleanup of shadow system (could be even better)
- BUGFIX: Incorrect handling of textures larger than GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE
- Removed glsdk from src/ext-directory (not used)
- Added glh (gl helper library)
- Added nvparse (nvidia parser library)
- Add extgen (gl extension definition file generator)
- Changed OpenGL extensions handling from homegrown to glh/extgen
- Dynamic environment mapping on the players ship
- The autoconf setup is a bit less hackish
- Added GL-headers in src/GL - eliminates the need to adapt to broken headers on various systems.
- Fixed a time leak in the mainloop
- Improved network-startup, better synchronization
- Compiles cleanly with gcc and -ansi -pedantic -Wall -W -Wno-sign-compare -Wno-unused
- Changed use_texture to an int (texture_level), allowing a textured hud while object textures are turned off.

The poster plug-in

The poster plug-in

The poster plug-in is a Gimp plug-in that combines image layers by attaching them in rows and columns. more>>
The poster plug-in is a Gimp plug-in that combines image layers by attaching them in rows and columns. This is useful especially for films.

The plug-in attaches the layers of a RGB or grayscale image row by row from the left to the right. The frames are separated by lines of selectable width in the current foreground color. If the row/column matrix is too small for all layers, the last layers are skipped. If the row/column matrix is too huge for the layers, additional slots are filled with the current background color.

Now, how does this look like???

Lets take the well-known high-speed film of an oscillating cavitation bubble... For a better visibility we choose a red foreground and a blue background color and select "< Image >/Filters/Animation/Poster" afterwards.

SMTP Relay Checker 2.0.3

SMTP Relay Checker 2.0.3

SMTP Relay Checker is a fully configurable, multithreaded open mail relay scanner. more>>
SMTP Relay Checker is a fully configurable, multithreaded open mail relay scanner. It supports scanning of IP blocks, and can print the results to a Web page.
SMTP Relay Checker is intended for Systems Administrators to check IP blocks under their control.
Compilation / Installation
To build SmtpRC please run "make" in the package directory. This will build the package and create the binary "smtprc". To install the package, please run "make install".
By Default, the binary will be installed into /usr/local/bin/, configuration files will be installed under /usr/local/etc/smtprc/ and all documentation files will be installed under /usr/local/share/doc/smtprc/. Please see below for a full list of installed files.
/usr/local/bin/smtprc
/usr/local/bin/gsmtprc
/usr/local/etc/smtprc/auto.conf
/usr/local/etc/smtprc/email.tmpl
/usr/local/etc/smtprc/rcheck.conf
/usr/local/share/doc/smtprc/README
/usr/local/share/doc/smtprc/FAQ
/usr/local/man/man1/smtprc.1
/usr/local/man/man1/gsmtprc.1
Using Smtprc
SmtpRC can be run by specifying options on the command line, or by configuring an "auto configuration" file and letting SmtpRC parse the options from there. The latter is recommended.
When SmtpRC is installed, a example "auto configuration" file is installed in "/usr/local/etc/smtprc/auto.conf". Edit this file, changing the values to suit your specific network requirements and run smtprc with the following option (a full list of options
is detailed below):
"/usr/local/bin/smtprc -j /usr/local/etc/smtprc/auto.conf"
To be sure that a mailserver relays third-party email, SmtpRC will attempt to relay mail to an address specified. It is recommended that this address is a mailbox on the local machine that is being used to run SmtpRC - pop support is a planned feature, but for now, SmtpRC only supports checking local mailboxes (mbox and Maildir). Create a new user account (smtprc), specify the email address for this account, and the local mailbox (on the command line or in the "auto configuration" file), and SmtpRC will attempt to relay emails to this address and check for recieved emails after scanning.
There is also a GUI interface to smtprc (gsmtprc) that is installed in /usr/local/bin. This requires Perl Tk to run.
Enhancements:
- Fixes a race condition between the master and reaper threads.

Message::Style is a Perl module to perform stylistic analysis of messages.

SYNOPSIS

use Message::Style;

my $score=Message::Style::score(@article);
# or
my $score=Message::Style::score(@article);

This Perl library does an analysis of a RFC2822 format message (typically email messages or Usenet posts) and produces a score that, in the authors opinion, gives a good indication as to whether the poster is a fsckwit, and therefore whether their message should be ignored.

Poster blog 1.0.9

Poster blog 1.0.9

Poster blog is a software which allows you to create a blog without the need of a database. more>>
Poster blog is a software which allows you to create a blog without the need of a database: all you need is an hosting (even a free one) with PHP support, FTP access and you must be able to chmod files.
Posting is really easy, thanks to a nice web interface which makes no use of JavaScript, so you can use it also on old browsers or even textual ones. I wrote down a list of Poster powered blogs (really short, at the moment, but I hope it will grow soon).
Poster blog works on plain text files and doesnt require a database.
Main features:
- Posting, obviously :)
- Comments
- Trackbacks (recieve and send)
- Multiple authors. There are granular permissions to define exactly what an user can and cannot do
- Categories
- Permalinks for posts, comments, trackbacks, categories and also authors
- Modular and scriptable template. You can insert PHP code in the template, and that code will be executed on the fly. The template uses special entities (for example, is replaced with the title of the blog)
- RSS feed. Future versions will have also an Atom feed
Enhancements:
- The most important change is that the the spam filters were integrated into the core.

GraphViz 2.02

GraphViz 2.02

GraphViz is a Perl interface to the GraphViz graphing tool. more>>
GraphViz is a Perl interface to the GraphViz graphing tool.

SYNOPSIS

use GraphViz;

my $g = GraphViz->new();

$g->add_node(London);
$g->add_node(Paris, label => City ofnlurve);
$g->add_node(New York);

$g->add_edge(London => Paris);
$g->add_edge(London => New York, label => Far);
$g->add_edge(Paris => London);

print $g->as_png;

This module provides an interface to layout and image generation of directed and undirected graphs in a variety of formats (PostScript, PNG, etc.) using the "dot", "neato", "twopi", "circo" and "fdp" programs from the GraphViz project (http://www.graphviz.org/ or http://www.research.att.com/sw/tools/graphviz/).

What is a graph?

A (undirected) graph is a collection of nodes linked together with edges.
A directed graph is the same as a graph, but the edges have a direction.

What is GraphViz?

This module is an interface to the GraphViz toolset (http://www.graphviz.org/). The GraphViz tools provide automatic graph layout and drawing. This module simplifies the creation of graphs and hides some of the complexity of the GraphViz module.

Laying out graphs in an aesthetically-pleasing way is a hard problem - there may be multiple ways to lay out the same graph, each with their own quirks. GraphViz luckily takes part of this hard problem and does a pretty good job in a couple of seconds for most graphs.

Why should I use this module?

Observation aids comprehension. That is a fancy way of expressing that popular faux-Chinese proverb: "a picture is worth a thousand words".
Text is not always the best way to represent anything and everything to do with a computer programs. Pictures and images are easier to assimilate than text. The ability to show a particular thing graphically can aid a great deal in comprehending what that thing really represents.

Diagrams are computationally efficient, because information can be indexed by location; they group related information in the same area. They also allow relations to be expressed between elements without labeling the elements.
A friend of mine used this to his advantage when trying to remember important dates in computer history. Instead of sitting down and trying to remember everything, he printed over a hundred posters (each with a date and event) and plastered these throughout his house. His spatial memory is still so good that asked last week (more than a year since the experiment) when Lisp was invented, he replied that it was upstairs, around the corner from the toilet, so must have been around 1958.

Spreadsheets are also a wonderfully simple graphical representation of computational models.

ADS Dexter 0.40

ADS Dexter 0.40

ADS Dexter is a utility for extracting data from scanned graphs. more>>
The following is an excerpt from a poster presented at the American Astronomical Societys 2000 Summer meeting in Rochester, NY.

ADS roughly 1,000,000 scanned pages contain numerous diagrams and figures for which the original data sets are lost or inaccessible. Having scans for the figures invites digitizing the data points to recover at least a part of these data.

Performing this digitization automatically is still beyond the capabilities of current OCR systems, but the computer can ease this process for a human.

This was the starting point for Dexter, a Java applet that runs in the users browsers and provides an interface for selecting the part of the page that is of interest. On that selection, coordinate axes, points and error bars can be marked and, of course, corrected. [...]

In the future, we plan to implement some recognition algorithms that would, e.g., trace a line for the user or automatically search for markers.

reacTIVision 1.3

reacTIVision 1.3

reacTIVision is an open source, cross-platform computer vision framework. more>>
reacTIVision is an open source, cross-platform computer vision framework for the fast and robust tracking of fiducial markers in a real-time video stream. reacTIVision project was mainly designed for the rapid development of table-based tangible user interfaces.

Its tracking core is using Ross Bencinas fidtrack library which is basically a newer high-performance implementation of Enrico Costanzas original d-touch concept. This framework was developed by Martin Kaltenbrunner et.al. at the Music Technology Group, IUA, UPF in Barcelona, Spain as part of the reacTable* project, a novel electro-acoustic musical instrument with a tangible user interface.

reacTIVision is a standalone application, which sends OpenSound Control messages via a UDP network socket to any connected client application. It implements the TUIO protocol, which was specially designed for transmitting the state of tangible objects on a table surface. This framework includes a set of free example client projects for various programming languages, which serve as a base for the easy development of tangible-user interface applications.

The reacTIVision application compiles and runs under the follwing operating systems: Win32, MacOS X and Linux. Under Win32 it suports any camera with a proper WDM driver, such as USB, USB2, FireWire and DV cameras. Equally under MacOS X any such camera supported by QuickTime will work in reacTIVision. Under Linux, FireWire cameras are best supported, as well as a few Video4Linux USB cameras.

NEW: Support the reacTIVision project and buy T-Shirts, posters and other merchandise featuring the reacTIVision fiducial symbols in our web-shop! All designs on these products can be recognized and tracked by the actual reacTIVision software.

Application Handling

Before starting the reacTIVision application make sure you have a supported camera connected to your system. The application can and will not work at all without a camera. Under Win32 and MacOS X the application will ask to select and configure the camera upon startup. Under Linux the camera will be selected automatically. Once configured the application will show a video window with the current camera image in black&white.

Pressing T will show the binary tresholded image, pressing the N key will turn the display off, which reduces its CPU usage significantly!

Pressing the S key will return to the original source image. For convenience and debugging porposes hitting the R key saves a raw image frame, while hitting the B key will save an image in the BMP format.

The P pauses the image analysis completely, hitting ESC will quit the application. The F key toggles the diplay of FPS info in the titlebar. In order to produce some more verbose debugging output, hitting the V key will print the currently recognized symbols to the console.

Command Line Options

The reacTIVision application per default sends the TUIO messages to port 3333 on localhost (127.0.0.1)

In order to change these parameters you can invoke the application with the -h [ip-address] and -p [port-no] options.

reacTIVision needs a so called "tree file" in order to function properly. The default "all.trees" is included and loaded automatically. If you want to use you own tree file you can invoke the application with the -t [tree-file] option.

Optionally if you dont want to analyze the complete image - for example in a square or round table setup - the application can mask a part of the video image with a black region, which speeds up the segmentation algorithm. In order to apply this mask You can invoke the application with the -m [square,circle] option.

Applying the -h or -help option will print a usage message to the console.

Calibration and Distortion

Some tables, such as the reacTable are using a convex mirror in order to increase the area visible to the camera at a minimal distance. This mirror as well as a fish-eye lens unfortunately distort the image. reactIVision includes a correction algorithm, which corrects this distortion with the help of a so called "grid file". These grid files can be generated during a prior calibration process.

To calibrate reacTIVision invoke the application with the option: reacTIVision -c 9 -g [grid_file]

In order to use the this calibration invoke the application with: reacTIVision -g [grid_file]

YPost 0.20

YPost 0.20

Ypost is a command line usenet binary file poster. more>>
Ypost is a command line usenet binary file poster. It provides both uuencoding and yEnc encoding posting, speed throttling, and flexible segment reposting ability.

I wrote ypost because I wanted a command-line posting program that runs under
Linux command line, and the one that was available (newspost) didnt support yEnc or throttling. I did a few updates to newspost and resubmitted the changes, but I felt that beyond a cartain point, it made more sense for me to write a new system. I decided this partially because after having used C++ for the last few years, C leaves me very nervous - there are too many ways in which C++ is far safer than C (automatic destruction, etc) and I just felt a rewrite was in order.

The installation is pretty primative. Ypost is a simple program, I hope it will compile up on most machines. Just type "make" at the command line, and when its done, copy the "ypost" executable to wherever you like, I suggest /usr/local/bin.
