gtk-gnutella 0.96.4
gtk-gnutella is a GTK+ Gnutella clone. more>>
Gtk-Gnutella is a server/client for Gnutella. It runs on every Unix-like system which supports GTK+ (1.2 or above) and libxml. Gnome is not required.
It is currently developed and tested under Linux (Debian 2.2) and is known to run at least on Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Darwin, Solaris, Tru64 UNIX (OSF/1), SGI IRIX, BeOS whereas CPU architectures include x86, AMD64, PowerPC, SPARC, MIPS.
gtk-gnutella project is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Gtk-Gnutella is not finished yet, but it is fully functional: you may share, search, and download. And it is stable too, users usually just leave it run unattended for days.
Main features:
- Share files on the gnutella network (Limewire, BearShare, Xolox, Gnucleus, Shareaza, Morpheus ...)
- Compressed GNet connections
- Simultaneous downloading of files from multiple hosts (swarming)
- Passive searches
- Searching by urn:sha1: and magnet:
- Automatic aquisition of additional sources via download mesh and watching searches
- Powerful filtering engine
- Bandwidth management/limiting
- A lot of settings
- A lot of statistics
Enhancements:
- Features include server-side support for Tigertree hashes and THEX, improved spam filters, paused downloads, and a query syntax for easier creation of result filters.
- There were also many bugfixes and other changes.

Qtella 0.6.5
Qtella is a peer-to-peer client using Gnutella protocol. more>>
Qtella is a peer-to-peer client using Gnutella protocol.
Sharing files over decentralized networks (peer-to-peer) has become very popular. The Gnutella network (Gnet) is one of these p2p networks which is an open network. The advantage of a decentralized network is that no server exists, which could be a single point of failure. Instead, every client acts as client and server at the same time. Due to this fact these clients are often called Servents. But using decentralized networks has also disadvanteges. The main drawback of missing central servers is that connecting to the net takes longer.
Qtella is one of these servents for Linux for the Gnutella network with many useful features. Most of these features are taken from the comments and suggestions of Qtella users. I want to thank all of these users. Qtella is written in C++ and uses the Qt libraries. It is available for Linux/Unix. Also a developer version for the Sharp Zaurus exists. A Win32 version is currently in progress (an alpha version is already available but its very unstable). [cCOPYRIGHT=1]
Main features:
- display incoming searches
- logging of errors, warnings and infos
- rename files
- move downloads into different directories
- statistics of connections and session
- select different styles
- select different fonts
- show download status in download tab by colored balls
- block specified hosts
- fast connection mechanism
- multiple search
- continue interrupted downloads
- uploads
- limit number of downloads and uploads
- limit upload bandwidth
- separate unfinished downloads from finished ones
- download of several files at once
- test whether file allready exists
- identification of download server
- automatic retry if error, busy, closed
- auto connect list
- KDE integration
- save host list
- handle extended gnutella protocol
- status lines and statistics
- accecpt incoming connections
- download from firewalled hosts
- pong cache to reduce network traffic
- advanced search: "+" word must exist, "-" word must not exist
- resume interrupted downloads

gumnut 0.0.7
Gumnut is an extension of the Gnut gnutella servent to enable a distributed, moderated discussion tree. more>>
Gumnut is a piece of communication software which may be used by a group of people to find an agreed positive direction for any decisions which affect the group. The group may be any size and associated by geography, common interest or both.
The display is currently a simple text based interface which can be used to post a new comment, reply to an existing comment, mirror a comment or to search for and display a discussion tree of comments.
Mirroring is the method used to indicate agreement with a particular comment. This increases the number of instances on the network and thus gives the comment a higher moderation weighting for those who subsequently search for and view that comment.
Gumnut is released under the GNU General Public Licence.
Gnutella project is the underlying network used for searching and retrieving the comment files. Although Gnutella may not scale well for a very large number of nodes, it is a well known distributed protocol which has a robust GPLed servent written for it named Gnut.
The existing search and download commands from Gnut are used and expanded with addition of the comment based commands of create, reply, mirror and display.
Gumnut is Free Software released under the GNU General Public Licence and runs on GNU/Linux and possibly other POSIX compliant Operating Systems. Current distribution is a source tarball which compiles with "./configure" and "make".
Enhancements:
- The code was cleaned up for readability.
- The listhits command was removed.
- A bug limiting searching for leaves with names longer than 78 bytes was fixed.
- A new command, "redisplay", was added.
- An "R" or "L" was added to displaytree output to indicate remote or local.
- Help output was cleaned up.
- Live testing and many minor bugfixes were done.

JSothello 2.0.0.0
JSothello is a Javascript/DHTML implementation of the board game Othello, also called Reversi. more>>
JSothello is a Javascript/DHTML implementation of the board game "Othello", also called "Reversi". Runs in the browser with four challenging computer intelligence levels. Play human versus computer, human versus human or computer versus computer.
JSothello is a Javascript/DHTML implementation of the board game "Othello", also called "Reversi".
Othello is very easy to play. The board is a square grid of any size. The two players pieces are black or white. Each player must place a piece on the board adjacent to one of his opponents pieces so that another of his own pieces is on the other side of his opponents piece(s). In other words, the opponents piece(s) should be "sandwiched" between the players pieces. When that occurs, all such "sandwiched" pieces are changed to the players color.
The game ends when one player cannot make a legal move. The winner is the player with the most pieces on the board.
This version allows the user to play the computer, another human or watch the computer play itself. The computer players have four levels of "intelligence", each with different styles of play:
- "Only took a minute to learn": The computer chooses random (legal) moves.
- "Laughable": The computer picks (one of) the move(s) that will flip the most pieces.
- "Respectable": Plays like "Laughable" but tries to grab the edges and the corners whenever possible while keeping its opponent from being able to grab the edges and corners.
- "Took a lifetime to master": Plays like "Respectable" but adjusts its edge/corner bias as the board fills up, favors moves that flip pieces in more than one direction, tries to prevent moves that will allow the opponent to immediately reverse its gain and places pieces closer to the corners when possible.

Trailerfetcher 0.3 Alpha
Trailerfetcher is video conversion application. more>>
Trailerfetcher is video conversion application.
As an owner of a small home-cinema system I got an idea: Wouldnt it be neat if before every film you play, mythtv would automatically show you a few trailers of other cool films too come (or already there)?
Trailers would also allow you to "ease into" actually watching the film and cover the whole "lets get the popcorn"-phase, etc.
But I already knew what a hassle it is to download _one_ trailer from sites like yahoo or apple.com. So I decided to make it easy:
This application provides an easy to use interface for downloading trailers. It fetches a list from a trailerpage (currently only yahoo.com) and lists all avalible trailers.
It then summarize the found trailers and displays info about the title, the genre and a short describtion of the plot. All this is fetched and extracted automatically.
You can than mark the trailers you want to download and simply press "Download" to save them to your harddrive.
Ok this was the marketing talk. I wrote this software because I needed it (probably the reason for most open-source-projects), but it is far from feature-complete. It is usable though (it loaded all 73 currently avalible trailers from yahoo.com last night).
AFAIK it is perfectly legal to download these trailers. If anyone thinks it isnt: please feel free to delete the project.
Usage notes: Set the settings before retrieving the list! Some settings (e.g. the resolution) will not take effect if you dont.

FrostWire 4.10.9 Beta
FrostWire is a Gnutella client according to the open standards of an international community. more>>
FrostWire is a community driven project based on source code released by LimeWire LLC to create and maintain a Gnutella client according to the open standards of an international community.
We are busy building a website and creating a new design for the FrostWire Gnutella client. Since LimeWire is a registered trademark we cannot distribute the client under its old name.
For that reason, we are looking for creative p2p fans that would like to create skins, design logos or websites. However we are also trying to get more people working on the Java core, the interface and the C++ windows installer (based on GnucDNA and NSIS). If you are interested in maintaining LimeWires legacy get involved!
We are trying to maintain good relations to the LimeWire project. The FrostWire team (all of whom are still members of the LimeWire open-source community) regrets LimeWires decision to start filtering content on Gnutella.
However, we will continue supporting LimeWire development and do not wish to make fundamental changes to the LimeWire core itself. FrostWire will not break with LimeWires design philosophy.
However the FrostWire project will never offer a PRO version. The FrostWire project will always remain strictly non-profit and free of any bundled software, including any ads or nags.

Free Digital Money 0.2
Free Digital Money is a free open source project aimed at promoting ideas and stimulating further innovation. more>>
Free Digital Money projetc is aimed at promoting ideas and stimulating further innovation in the field of digital bearer money.
Digital bearer money is like cash and can be transferred person-to-person without going through a bank or PayPal account.
Scope
The scope of this project is necessarily limited; digital bearer money schemes are difficult to implement.
The project will develop and release a Digital Money system and applications, suitable for teaching and idea-testing.
The current release (V0.2) delivers a basic digital PGP-based coin system.
The next release will provide a transport mechanism to send the coins to an intended recipient; and a client application (a Wallet).
How You Can Help
We welcome technical help in a variety of forms:
- Application writers and visionaries: to use the FreeDMoney software to experiment with new ideas
- Coders: to extend the current software or to implement a completely new payment system
- Vendors of existing digital payment schemes: to implement a FDM interface to their code
Educational Usage
Students (and others) are welcome and encouraged to use FreeDMoney as a basis for discussing other considerations of building a secure payment systems.
Examples:
- What technical peer-review process would be required to be confident in the security of the system?
- What are the limitations in the model that would need to be overcome in order to make this into a technically sound basis for a real-world, real-value payment system?
- Assuming these limitations had been overcome, what operational considerations would need to be addressed to deliver a secure, reliable payment system?
- How do existing payment systems address these issues?
What legal and regulatory issues would need to be addressed in the target jurisdictions?
Enhancements:
- Initial Coin implementation and "test bank" Web application.

iRATE radio provides users with a powerful new way to find and download free, legal music online.
Users rate tracks based on their tastes. The iRATE server then selects other tracks to send to the user from a database of over 50,000 freely downloadable songs by correlating the users ratings with other users, and finding people with similar tastes.
Unlike streaming audio, iRATE saves the tracks to the users hard drive. This means that playback is smoother, without the typical problems associated with streaming media, such as high bandwidth usage.

Firepass 1.1.2a
Firepass is a tunneling tool. more>>
Firepass - is a tunneling tool, allowing to bypass firewall restrictions and encapsulate data flows inside legal ones to use HTTP POST requests. TCP or UDP based protocols may be tunneled with Firepass. For now, both - client and server parts are written in Perl and the server script acts as a CGI program.
The Firepass key feature is that you may use several type of installation of the server part script in the external network. You do not need to bind any port on the external box. Firepass may also be usable for the reverse task, when the server script is located at the corporative web server and when client interact with it from the external network.
To run FIREPASS youll need the following dependencies:
A box located inside your local network, with Perl and the ability to send HTTP messages to the external network (Internet), either directly or indirectly through a HTTP proxy
A HTTPd server located on the external network (with Perl also) where you can place / run CGI scripts and establish outgoing connections (Most commercial hosting providers and some public ones allow this)
FIREPASS key feature is that you can chain several installations of the server and they never need to bind to a port; therefore, it is undetectable by most Administrators. There is only an unusual HTTP dialog between the client and server ; aswell, the HTTP messages are send fairly often. But this is configurable in the FIREPASS client with a special delay option between HTTP requests, and can be used for any non-time-critical protocols.
This FIREPASS version is alpha, so there still may be some bugs... including SECURITY bugs! Please read the section "HOW IT WORKS" carefully to understand all the possible risks you may be exposed to. I do not provide any guarantees that this program works properly.
Enhancements:
- New FIREPASS client directive :
- - use HTTP proxy to resolve hostnames.
- Minor corrections:
- A UDP protocol-related bug has been fixed in the client.
