Glitter is an interactive GUI program for extracting binaries from newsgroups. It provides a powerful mechanism for filtering files to ensure that you retrieve only the binaries that you want. You may also schedule the binary download for a convenient time, perhaps when you are asleep, when charges are low and the network is not congested.

Glitter is a GTK+/Gnome application. It provides a graphical interface to a Perl script, gary. Gary is a modified version of Mark Stantzs Assemble Usenet Binaries (aub) program. Several features have been added, including multiple concurrent NNTP connections and NNTP authentication.

Grant Petersen has supplied some excellent animations. You may look at Grants animations on the competition page. Grant has won the competition and his animation is included in the current release of Glitter.

Glitter won a Best of Linux award at linux.com.

Twisted Words library provides implementations of a handful of IM protocols, including IRC, MSNP8, OSCAR, TOC, and Jabber.

Twisted Words provides two separate high-level end-user features:

a multiprotocol instant messaging server
a multiprotocol instant messaging client

These are both still in the early stages of development and are not expected to work flawlessly in all configurations, however each is quite usable for a limited set of functionality. A Twisted Words server can be created with just a couple commands:

$ mktap words --irc-port 6667 --pb-port 8787 --passwd password_file --group somegroup
$ twistd -f words.tap

The Twisted Words client is named im and is usable as an IRC client, and possibly an AIM client (depending on the phase of the moon).

Low Level Functionality:

Low-level protocol implementations of OSCAR (AIM and ICQ), IRC, MSN, TOC (AIM).
Jabber libraries.

Prototypes of chat server and client frameworks built on top of the protocols.

JRainWords is a Java program useful in teaching children how to use a computer keyboard.

It works with Linux, Windows and with every other platform supported by the SUN Java 2 Virtual Machine 1.4.0. The words in the default list are English, but can be easily replaced (a file with Italian words is included).

SYNOPSIS

The Perl module MIME::AltWords is recommended for encoding and decoding MIME words (such as =?ISO-8859-2?Q?_=E1ll_e=E1r?=) found in e-mail message headers (mostly Subject, From and To).

MIME::AltWords is similar to MIME::Words in MIME::Tools, but it provides an alternate implementation that follows the MIME specification more carefully, and it is actually compatible with existing mail software (tested with Mutt, Pine, JavaMail and OpenWebmail). MIME::AltWords extends the functionality of MIME::Words (version 5.420) by adding more functions and more options to existing functions. The original interface is changed in an upward-compatible way.

gmbCrossword is an application for making swedish type crosswords. It is written i Gambas and has support for word lookup in databases.

It is written in english but is translated to swedish. I have some problems to get Gambas to use the swedish translation myself but its probably my own fault.

In the distribution file youll find databases for english, swedish and computer words. They are rather small databases (10000-20000 words) to keep the filesize down but it is easy to import new words. I also have a bigger swedish file (>200000 words) but it is not currently in the distribution.

Instructions:

Unpack the file in your home directory (or somewhere else where you have write permissions). You need write permissions to the databases to be able to edit them.

The application file (gmbcrossword) can be located anywhere in your path.
The first time you start the program you need to specify the path to the databases using the settings menu.

The List::Maker module hijacks Perls built-in file globbing syntax (< *.pl > and glob *.pl) and retargets it at list creation.

The rationale is simple: most people rarely if ever glob a set of files, but they have to create lists in almost every program they write. So the list construction syntax should be easier than the filename expansion syntax.

Weve seen lots of cute little storybooks for kids that are like this, and we thought itd be neat to be able to do my own. Someone has probably had this idea before, but we couldnt find anything online anywhere, so we wrote it.
