GiNaC is an iterated and recursive acronym for GiNaC is Not a CAS, where CAS stands for Computer Algebra System. It is designed to allow the creation of integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more established areas of computer science (like computation- intense numeric applications, graphical interfaces, etc.) under one roof. It is distributed under the terms and conditions of the GNU general public license (GPL).
The project has been specifically developed to become a replacement engine for xloops which is up to now powered by the Maple CAS. However, it is not restricted to high energy physics applications. Its design is revolutionary in a sense that contrary to other CAS it does not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.
Enhancements:
- Bugs in fderivative::match_same_type(), expairseq::match(), expand_dummy_sum(), and expairseq::map() have been fixed, and the C source output has been slightly improved.
- Problems when compiling with GCC 4.2 have been resolved.

Swiginac project is a Python interface to GiNaC, built with SWIG. The aim of swiginac is to make all the functionality of GiNaC accessible from Python as an extension module.
Current status is beta; a lot (but not all yet) of the GiNaC classes are exposed, virtually all of the GiNaC tests pass.

Enhancements:
- Exceptions are now caught to prevent user errors from terminating Python sessions.
- Also, matrices are automatically evaluated, and the swiginac tutorial is included.

fig2ps is a perl script which converts xfig files to postscript or PDF, processing text with LaTeX. fig2pss primary aim is to produce documents (such as articles) with a high quality, in which the pictures are seamlessly integrated with the text (notably, the font in the figures is exactly the same as in the text).

The way to use it is simple : draw your picture with xfig, marking all text as special (there is one way to force this, look at the manual page). Then, invoke fig2ps on your xfig file. Then, you can integrate the picture in a LaTeX document by simply saying, for instance, includegraphics{file}

mod_dav is an Apache module to provide DAV capabilities (RFC 2518) for your Apache web server.

mod_dav currently implements a Class 1 and Class 2 DAV server. This means that it provides all the basic DAV facilities for manipulating resources (files) on the target web server, along with manipulating properties on those resources. In addition, it handles the (un)locking of resources so that clients can have exclusive access to modify resources.

This is the final, 1.0 release. It is very stable and well-tested, after its nineteen month development period. Since there is no rush to market on an Open Source product, mod_dav was not labelled as 1.0 until it really felt like a 1.0 release.

Additional patches and releases will be created for mod_dav 1.0 as problems arise. For example, mod_dav 1.0.1 was released on June 28, 2000 to fix a problem on the Win32 platform. mod_dav 1.0.2 was released in October, 2000 to improve the configuration and build process, enhance the conformance to various specifications, fix a number of bugs, and provide for operation on EBCDIC machines.

mod_dav has been incorporated directly into the Apache servers next major release -- Apache 2.0. Development of new functionality and features will be focused on Apaches DAV implementation.

Featherweight Linux is my Live-CD installable Linux distribution that I remastered from Feather Linux, which is built on knoppix technology. Youll find some great people over at Feather and you can find some good documentation there.
Their goal is to make a light and fast Linux with a very small footprint that can be installed on USB pen drives and such. My goal is a bit different. I want a full featured Linux that isnt bloated with a kazillion gigs of crap that Ill never use. I want a small footprint that is light and fast, even on older machines, but still carries a knockout punch.
So I took Feather and stripped out a bunch of apps that I never even thought of using. I wanted to make an easy to understand desktop that was compatible and easily configurable with the latest apps being developed, so I removed all of the window managers and installed a minimal KDE 3.3 desktop.
I included the most popular internet apps like the Mozilla Suite complete with plugins, Gaim, Gftp etc... I added full printer support and wifi support. In my test environment, it automatically detects and configures both my network printer (HP PSC 1210)and my linksys wireless card. Hopefully, itll do the same for you. It is debian based so I installed Synaptic for easy upgrading and totally FREE software management. Customizing your own system with the software that you want is only a few clicks away.
In its current state, the ISO is about 240mb and the HDD install is about 700mb, which is about 1/4 of all the other overweight distros out there. Once you install it, you can install OpenOffice and a bunch of other stuff if you need it, but I just wanted to make a good solid functional base so you can build your own system if you want.
Featherweight is intended for novice users with "some" linux experience, intermediate users, and experienced linux users alike. It has a pretty straight forward install but you should know linux and HDD partitioning basics before trying to install it.

Enhancements:
- Ive upgraded e2fsprogs and e2fslibs as well as some other critical core files.
- I updated the apt sources and added abiword and acroread, as well as the acroread mozilla plugin, and I added kppp.
- I upgraded samba and switched the quick start konqueror and kde help buttons with a mozilla button and a konsole button.
- I fixed the install script where some folks were getting a blank screen after installation and added a grub install script for easy installation of grub after the initial install.
- The total installed size is now about 800mb.
