GOIM is a full featured jabber / XMPP client with special features (extensions) for gamers. more>>
GOIM is a full featured jabber / XMPP client with special features (extensions) for gamers. (e.g. broadcasting a notification when you join a server.. and see which games others play and join them with one click on the game icon beside their name)
GOIM uses the Eclipse Rich Client Plattform as GUI and SMACK as its jabber library.
You can also use GOIM InsideEclipse IDE.
GOIM is still in an early Beta Stage, which means it may contains bugs and misses features.
Main features:
- Send information about which game is played on which server (This is done by sending a presence with extended information. The information which game on which server will also be visible in the show part, so even people using another client (or icq/msn/..) will see what/where you are playing.

UMark beta3

UMark beta3

UMark is a GNOME port of the popular UT200x benchmark utility. more>>
UMark project is a free graphical user interface that allows gamers and hardware reviewers to easily configure and run benchmarks on Unreal Tournament 200x (UT2004 and UT2003, both demo and retail versions).
Benchmarking with UMark is very flexible, as it can run totally customizable benchmarks. At the same time, it also offers standard benchmarking which imitates the official UT200x benchmark batch file tests.
UMark supports three types of UT200x benchmarking: "botmatch","flyby", and "timedemo" benchmarks. Each benchmark type has its own upsides and downsides.
Timedemo
Timedemos are pre-recorded matches that can be played back as fast as your computer can render it. While timedemos have the consistency of flybys and the gameplay accuracy above that of botmatches, there are no official demo recordings, therefore they are non-standard.
Flyby
Although flybys are standard and more consistent by always following the same paths, not all maps support them and they dont include the abundance of animated sprites or process the game rules that you would find in playing a typical match of UT200x.
Botmatch
Botmatch benchmarks include the things that make up an actual UT200x match, and have close framerates to a "real" game of UT200x, yet they function primarily on AI, which may cause the benchmarks themselves to be inconsistent when using different options.
UMark specializes in botmatch bencharking because botmatches are widely supported and have the most response to UMarks flexible configurations.
UMark also provides an engine for gathering results for saving and loading at another time, or to submit into an online score database (UMark Online) where users can search and compare results with other users based on a number of factors.
Results are displayed in numbers and bar graphs, along with hardware information. UMark Online members may post links to their scores so they can be viewed publicly by their peers.
Enhancements:
- Latest source snapshot, with features unseen in version 1.0 Beta 3, including built in HTML graph results browser (embedding Mozilla if installed).

Prey Dedicated Server 1.2

Prey Dedicated Server 1.2

Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. more>>
Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.
Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games. You will find nothing familiar with this game.
Overview
In Prey, gamers enter an unpredictable world where nothing can be taken for granted. Most of the game takes place within a living ship, a giant entity that can sense and react to Tommys presence.
Prey makes use of Josephs Campbells renowned story structure, "The Heros Journey," for guiding the main character arc. Campbells extensive work on mythological story progression was made famous when George Lucas used it for Luke Skywalkers story arc in the original Star Wars.
Main features:
- Built on an enhanced Doom 3 engine, the most impressive 3D engine used in a released game.
- Portal technology adds a new dimension to gameplay, allowing enemies to appear out of thin air and create new and completely original puzzles and gameplay styles.
- Several never-before-seen gameplay elements such as Spirit Walking, Wall Walking, and Deathwalk.
- Highly organic, living environment that itself can attack Tommy.
- A deep, emotional story of love and sacrifice.
- Tommy has a sidekick, a spiritual hawk that can help him fight enemies and decipher the alien language of the living ship.
- Multiplayer game support that takes advantage of the unique gameplay styles in Prey.

Teeny Weeny Microgame Engine 2005.02.27

Teeny Weeny Microgame Engine 2005.02.27

Teeny Weeny Microgame Engine project is a console/curses interface for playing near-arbitrary board games. more>>
Teeny Weeny Microgame Engine project is a console/curses interface for playing near-arbitrary board games.
The Teeny Weeny Microgame Engine is a specification for the portable play of board- style games in a wide variety of computing environments. As proof-of-concept, teeny-cpp implements the Teeny LRFC (Lesser RFC) and many extended features with a shell-like console interface and a curses-based UI.
Despite their simple appearances, they are very extensible via C++ and basic game script code using the commands defined in the LRFC. It is intended for hard-core hobby board gamers or war gamers.
Main features:
- Acts as a reference implementation of and an experimentation ground for the Teeny LRFC.
- It has two major modes of operation: console mode (for the Power User) and curses mode (for a colorful UI).
- Internally controlled almost completely via the command language interface described in the Teeny LRFC. This allows us to extend the list of game options almost indefinately without having to change the internals of the framework. This also inherently allows us to operate the game environment via scripts containing lists of game commands.
- The scriptability means we can use arbitrary tools to generate game data. For example, creating games using bash scripts is often easier than hand-writing game scripts because we can take advantage of the advanced features of such a shell, like loops and conditionals (which are lacking in our code).
- The curses UI allows some keys to be programmed to arbitrary command strings. This makes doing common operations a snap. (i hope to improve this support to cover most keys.) For example, map a key to the command teeny-board rotate to quicky rotate your game board.
- For boardgame designers it offers a pretty simple interface for prototyping game designs.
- Generic plugins/DLL support means clients may plug in their own commands or even plug in their own plugin base types. As a demonstration, the source comes with EDeck, a plugin for handling abstract decks of cards (i.e., lists of shuffleable items from which we may pull items off the top). Of course... this plugin can be controlled via the command language interface, so its scriptable.
- The curses UI has support for manipulating all commonly-used curses text attributes, including colors, bold, blink, underline, etc., for the game board. Attributes are specified on a per-Avatar basis, and each set of attributes (colormap) may be named, loaded and saved at will. As usual, these are controlled via the command language, and are thus scriptable.
- Most parts of the interface support the use of $VARIABLES from the user. e.g., loading $TEENY_HOME/file.s11n will load the file ~/.teeny/foo.s11n. You may of course define and manipulate these variables as you wish.
- Startup of the app can be customized via a script. e.g., to load a game or macro keys, set up environment variables, etc.
- Powerful, flexible object serialization support, which means that we can add support for saving/loading near-arbitrary data with extremely little effort, without having to worry one iota about the underlying data formats, transport layers, and other bogusness. We can independently save and load almost all parts of the games state if we wish, as well. Shameless plug: http://s11n.net
- The source code is fairly hackable, if i may say so. Adding command handlers and DLLs is especially simple for even entry-level C++ coders. im always looking for ways to improve the code, so feel free to contribute :).

Sage is an OpenGL extensions library that uses SDL to obtain its function pointers in a cross-platform manner.

Sage source code is automatically generated from the glext.h header file available from the OpenGL site.

Our vision is to foster an independent community, active in the development and maintainance of many unique roleplaying-oriented game worlds, with access to a rich collection of game rules and audio/visual media, a wide selection of server and client implementations, and a standard network communication protocol.

WorldForges mission is to produce the necessary tools and technologies that will allow the creation of graphically rich games of cooperation and socialization.

We strive to blur the distinction between player and maker, and wish to establish a positive community environment for current and future free game developers. Our efforts will culminate in a game, codenamed Belchfire, set in a well developed gameworld called Dural and using the Circe RPG rule system.

Our strategy is simple: Listen to what players, authors, and artists wish to do, and put the tools in their hands that makes it possible for them to realize their visions.
The WorldForge project evolved out of a desire for better internet role playing games.

Where Multi-User Dungeons have had a great degree of success through the early years of the internet, games like Ultima Online have failed to build upon these successes to produce an advanced virtual world of any merit.

Avinash Gupta and a collective of perhaps a dozen enthusiastic gamers began to share their vision of what a truely fantastic gaming experiance should be.
