FlatFrag 0.3

FlatFrag 0.3

FlatFrag is a multiplayer action shooter game. more>>
FlatFrag is a multiplayer action shooter game. With its deathmatch fights it strives to be an entertaining arcade-style experience.
The game is played from a birds eye view and contains some 3D effects in order to make it not seem too flat. Currently only the game mode deathmatch is available, but others will probably be developed in the future.
The game has been built from scratch, though a few important libraries were used in the process. For example, OpenGL is used for fast 3D graphics and SDL provides the game with many cross-platform functions.
It is developed by a single person as a hobby project, but it is released under the terms of the GPL (GNU General Public License), which makes it Open Source software. So everybody is able to get the sourcecode and do his own changes to the project.
Main features:
- Cross-platform support currently for Linux and Microsoft Windows (planned: Mac OS X, BSD, though you can try it anywhere with the provided sourcecode)
- 3D graphics using OpenGL -- the game is played from a birds eye view, but the individual tiles are 3D cubes
- 3D sound using OpenAL -- 2D would probably be more appropriate
- SDL is used for cross-platform input, networking and window creation
- Multiplayer network games with up to 32 players (actually there is no fixed limit set yet)
- Support for Lua-scripted modifications (more like planned, but the console already expects Lua code as input)
- File types: Ogg Vorbis used for sound compression, PNG used for image compression
- Advanced particle system
- Dynamic lighting
- Bots
- Ridable cars and usable stationary guns
- 14 different weapons (some of them very unconventional)
- In-game map editor
- Game modes: deathmatch (more planned)
- Dedicated game server
- A server list function, which fetches a list of servers. You can also see the list of servers here.
- Completely free software -- free as in speech and free as in beer -- Licensed under the GPL

Worminator 3.0R2.1

Worminator 3.0R2.1

Worminator 3 is akin to many Apogee Software and ID Software classic action games such as Duke Nukem and Commander Keen. more>>
Worminator 3 is akin to many Apogee Software and ID Software classic action games such as Duke Nukem and Commander Keen.
In Worminator game, you play as The Worminator (or as several other optional characters) and fight your way through many levels of madness and mayhem.
It features nine unique weapons, visible character damage, multiple supported resolutions, full screen scrolling, sound and music, and more.
Original Worminator story...
The year is 2028, 14 years after the start of the deadliest war in the history of worm kind. Much has changed... In the year 2012; a brilliant American scientist discovered how to make W.O.R.M. (Wormborg Operated Remote Missile) Weaponry, and to work them, the "WormBorgs" cyborg fighting machines.
These so called "WormBorgs" were the elite fighting force and the pride of the United Worms of America. Their life-like roles soon became far too life-like. They thought on their own, and acted on their own whims, under their own leader "DirtNet." No one exactly knows who or what "DirtNet" is, but it soon began to take over.
First, it launched the W.O.R.M.s at the Woroviet Union, in the hopes that they would retaliate and initiate a war between the Woroviet Union and the UWA. However, "DirtNet" obviously had a few bugs to work out, and the W.S.S.R was obliterated into millions of radioactive hunks of mud and dirt. Despite the fact that no one liked Wormunism anyway, all of Wormurope retaliated against the UWA.
Soon, the world was turned into a nuclear wasteland. Nuke drops became daily ordeals, and the giant bombs turning whole forests into matchsticks was to be expected. As if the sewers werent loaded with enough mutated alligators as it was, the hunks of radioactive material combined with the primordial soup of the sewers are said to have created blobs of sewage ooze, powerful enough that they fed off the mutated alligators for lunch.
After what was left of Wormurope had realized what tricks had been played on them by "DirtNet," they began to rally and fight back. For 8 years, the WormBorgs dominated the lands, crushing the rebels... until one faithful day, when the now famous rebel hero emerged. It was Wrom Conner.
No longer acting as individual factions, countries or nations, the rebels struck quickly and fiercely under Wroms command, using tactics that even the powerful W-1000s processors could not predict. The tide of the war had turned.
Over the next 5 years, the rebels devastated the WormBorgs. Using guerilla tactics and reprogrammed WormBorgs to fight for them, the rebels were a resourceful army indeed. Now, in desperation, "DirtNet" has just brought its proto-type WormBorg online, equipped with the latest in armor and weaponry, in one last attempt to regain control...
Main features:
- Fast, fluid scrolling
- 12 unique weapons, and many types of ammo
- Lots of gibs and shrapnel (all cartoonish, though)
- Visible character damage (as you get hurt, the Worminator actually becomes bloody)
- Visible weapons (every weapon actually appears differently on the Worminator. Most platform games have a single weapon graphic that shoots every type of projectile)
- Over 12 fully animated enemies
- Comes with over 16 levels, and a level editor is included so you can make your own
- Keycards, doors, special items, switches, lever, extending bridges, floating platforms, and more!
- Earthquakes rip the ground apart, while snow and rain fall around you
- Great MIDI tunes by Garret Thomson (garret_t@sympatico.ca, www.sirsonic.com)
- Many sound effects (All from Internet sites such as Sound America and Meanrabbit. Let me know if there are any copyright problems, and I will deal with them immediately)
- Parallax scrolling, plus four data layers in every map. This makes the engine very flexible
- Game includes a campaign game with special scripted events, as well as an option to load custom maps
- Stereo sound effects (where available)
- Limited skins support; you can play as different characters!
- Built using Allegro + DJGPP. Source code may be made available if the demand is there
- If you wish to use the Worminator engine, contact me and we will discuss it (I would never charge any money for it, so if your interested, drop me an email. You have nothing to loose)
- Totally Freeware!
Enhancements:
- made worminator compile and run on Linux (Unix)
- made worminator yield the cpu when its idle
- save settings in textfile format under $HOME/.worm3.cfg instead of as binary blob in cwd
- save / load game to / from $HOME/.worm3.sav
- load datafile from DATADIR as defined during compilation instead of from cwd
- speedup: dont redraw borders and statuspanel unless nescesarry
- check all file accesses and give an error and continue when possible instead of just segfaulting
- fix a crash when changing audio options after loading a savegame of a custom-level or the tutorial
- fix a crash (unix only?) when changing video options and one similar on exit
- fix crash on exit caused by a few double frees on exit
- dont ask for confirmation on load/play_demo/exit when their is no game in progress
- show a message when trying to save when no game is in progress, instead of just silenty ignoring the request
- when clicking on another submenu when in one not only close the current one, but also open the new one
- fix map / savegame / demo read/write routines so that they work on Big Endian archs like PPC too

JGame 3.0

JGame 3.0

JGame is a small high-level 2D game engine for producing games on Java platforms. more>>
JGame is a small high-level 2D game engine for producing games on Java platforms. It does a lot of the stuff you need for a game automatically, and "classic" type arcade games can be developed with a minimum of effort.
It is based on sprites with automatic collision detection, and a tile-based background with easy sprite-tile interaction facilities. JGame games can easily be run as stand-alone applications or as applets, and can be scaled to any resolution.
Main features:
- Tested on various platforms; can easily be run as applet as well.
- Ensures optimised and accelerated graphics for a variety of displays; even works well on remote X11 displays.
- The game is programmed at one resolution, but can be scaled to any desired resolution when run.
- Built-in animated "sprite" engine, with easy animation definition.
- Tile-based background handling, with decorative backdrop.
- Automatic collision detection with sprites and background tiles, and easy background tile interaction.
- Load sprites, tiles, and colour fonts directly from sprite sheets.
- Define images and animations in a text file.
Enhancements:
- New platform-independent versions of Point, Rectangle, Color, Font.
- Changes in package structure. Base classes are now in jgame, platform independent implementation details in jgame.impl, platform dependent classes in jgame.platform.
- Major changes in JGEngine/JGCanvas. A platform independent interface JGEngineInterface has been defined. The platform-independent code has been moved to jgame.impl.*, and for each platform there is a platform-dependent version of JGEngine, delegating functionality to jgame.impl.EngineLogic where possible.
- ImageUtil has been split into a platform-independent interface JGImage, and platform implementations JREImage and MIDPImage.
- StdGame now has two versions, the original for JRE and a somewhat simplified version for MIDP.
- The package tree has been changed. The sources are now in src-*, classes are compiled into classes-*. Compilation of the JGame classes and the examples and applications has been split.
- The code has been optimised: object creations in the most important tight loops have been reduced to near zero, repaintBG has been optimised by a factor 2, isOnPF/isInView were optimised.
- a small bug in background copying where the area bounds would exceed the size of the source image was fixed.
- A few methods were added specifically for use the Midlet platform, such as isMidlet(), displayWidth/Height(), setScalingPreferences().
- setCursor has been renamed to SetMouseCursor.
- there is a new engine getTiles method that copies the data into an existing object. Semantics of the getTiles methods in JGObject have been changed to return a local variable with the information copied into it, rather than create an object every time. Semantics of some other methods such as getImage is changed so as not to create a new object every time.
- fixed bug in exitEngine which did not set the JGObject default_engine to null
- fixed access exception occurring in unsigned webstart.
- improved frame skip logic so that game runs smoothly even if the machine is way too slow

- Controllerbased Input
- Intuitive componentbased input handling and behaviors that are easily extended
- Support for Editor/DevTool Plugins
- Devtools have been factored out of WorkspaceManager and are organized as simple and extendible or plugins
- Input focus fix
- Input isnt handled when working with the devtools
- Clicking on the render window will remove focus from devtools, enabling input again
- DragDrop Scene Creation
- Drag templates from the Scene Object Templates window onto the Scene window
- Reorganize the scene graph in the scene window and the templates in the Scene Object Templates window
- Click on nodes in the Scene window to select them
- Property Editing:
- Select nodes by clicking on them in the render window or Scene window and edit their properties in the Properties window (Property Inspector)
- Select components (such as the rendering engine or application) from the Components menu in the InGame Editor to edit their properties
- The properties are grouped and have descriptions and any custom properties added will show up as well
- New properties and ways of editing properties (especially collections) will be added in the future as well as fixes for properties like Orientation angles, Absolute Position, Direction, etc that may not work properly at the moment.
- About Box:
- The Help > About RealmForge GDK menu item now shows the About Box properly with information about the project and its developers.
- Event Editing:
- Click on the "View > Event Scripting Designer" menu item to work with the designer to visually script events
- Selecting a target from the dropdown list and an event from the list right below it
- Drag scripts from the Tree of all scripts or from the list of named delegates
- Add any method in the entire framework or from plugins that has a void SimpleMethod() or void Script(object owner, object args) signature by specifying the fully qualified (include namespace) class name and members (fields and properties) that need to be traversed to get to it from a static member of that class
- You can leave the class name empty an will default to the RealmForge.RF, the singleton aggregator.
- Saving your game:
- The File > Save menu item now actually works and will save the current scene (for applications that load the scene from a master module, doesnt work for the Sample Browser tech demos yet). This feature is buggy and verbose, however since it is finally supported it wont be long before the editor will be fully usable for game development!

Glarf 0.35

Glarf 0.35

Glarf is a game with weird creatures on platforms shooting weird things. more>>
Glarf is the working title of a video game. It is a platformer like Mario or MegaMan or Contra, but thats not the Big Idea.

The Big Idea is user created content, radical trust, randomness, and play. Weapon crafting is a key example.

Glarf can shoot things - fireballs, bouncy globs, liquids. When Glarf consumes a powerup, the things he shoots inherit some of that powerups properties, by being selective in what you eat or throw away, you can create weapons with powerful and interesting effects.

Eventually, players will be able to modify the code that governs the behaviour of object in the game world. And theyll be able to share it safely with other players. But for now were just working on getting a first level done that serves as a tutorial and is still fun.

Wyrm Tools 0.13.0

Wyrm Tools is a suite of tools for any RPG system. more>>
Wyrm Tools is a suite of tools to make your gaming more productive regardless of which rules system you use. More importantly, Wyrm Tools is an RPG tool platform.

While this project anticipates to offer the standard RPG tool fare (such as a character generator and editor), it gives users the flexibility to add their own tools, even to the point of defining their own game systems.

The foundation of Wyrm Tools is the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. Wyrm Tools is to be to RPGs what Eclipse is to, well, everything else.

The overall project has progressed to a pre-alpha release. The core platform functionality (i.e. the game system agnostic bits) are mature. Currently, the d20 3.5 game system is being implemented along with a d20 character editor.
