Galaxy project is a stellar motion simulator which can show the development of a random field of stars. more>>
Galaxy project is a stellar motion simulator which can show the development of a random field of stars into patterns such as clusters and spiral arms.
Galaxy is a free Linux computer program which simulates the motion of stars under the influence of gravity. Create a field of random stars to begin with, then watch the stars move as they are accelerated by their mutual gravitational attractions.
You can vary the number of stars, their initial velocities around a center, and the strength of the attractive force between them. Watch how the attractive forces accelerate individual stars and send them careening in new directions. Watch how large groups of stars develop into interesting patterns over time, such as clusters and spiral arms.
Galaxy is not for serious physics, but more a toy or educational aid for young students of science.

SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - lets you create a Web Service to your enterprise data within 15 minutes. more>>
SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - project lets you create a Web Service to your enterprise data within 15 minutes. All you need is a Servlet Container, a Database and a Browser.
The information can be accessed either via a SOAP Document/Literal Style Web Service or a simple XML-Request/Response structure.
A free download and license is available as also a free Eclipse Plugin that lets you implement the data into your business application.
The data is secured by userid / role permissions. The WSDL for the Web Service can be public or private so you decide who accesses your data.
Data consistency over platforms is provided by an independency layer that makes it easy to migrate the underlying data to another source.
SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is a service to provide Data access. This section explains the features that are already available in SAGA.M31 - Galaxy -. No future selling, but real information. The Functionality of SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is strong oriented to provide access to the most important Information sources without any programming knowledge.
This separates the business logic from the data access logic and helps to improve performance by having database experts building the data structure and definition and application programmer focussing on the business logic.
Because we permanently enhance the feature sets, we ask you to visit this site regular. As an alternate option you can use our RSS Feed to be informed automatically. Subscribing to our newsletter is very welcome, so you will get first hand information.

Avadan 0.19a
Avadan is a rogue-like role-playing game situated in space. more>>
Avadan project is a rogue-like role-playing game situated in space.
The player travels from planet to planet in order to find the mystical oracles. The player is placed in nethack-style dungeons. The whole game is rogue-like, but with the extension of space travels.
The dungeons are shown with tile graphics, and space looks a bit better. On space stations, the player can talk to NPCs, get quests, and trade artifacts found in the dungeons.
To execute the game, you have to open and run the project with Gambas (>= 0.19.20). The finished version will include a binary with all source and data in one big file, so then youll still need gambas for execution, but the game can be started itself; you dont need to use the Gambas IDE.
To see how it works, you should stay in galaxy sector 2-3, fly to the stations entry (with cursor keys), press "d" to dock and then "l" to land on the planet. There you can discover a nethack-style dungeon, slash monsters, collect treasures and so on. The goal is to reach the oracle in dungeon level 10. Press "t" to talk to traders and the oracle. Press "F1" in every stage of the game to get help (esp. about the meaning of keys).
Enhancements:
- added magic weapons
- scrolls can be read (used)
- rearranged some parts of the code
- chests can be traps
- added oracles (essential for win the game, on dungen level 10)
- made enemies stronger
- added enemies for dungeon levels 5-10

Marauder-ah 4
Marauder-ah is a 2d space fighting game. more>>
Marauder-ah project is a 2d space fighting game.
Marauder-ah is a set of improvements over "marauder", originally written by Shawn Hargreaves in 1994.
You control a spaceship with a basic weapon, and your purpose is to kill as many people as you can.
Earning money (using piracy or trade) enables you to upgrade your ship and buy deadly weapons.
Game Rules:
Many years from now, in a distant corner of the galaxy, blah blah.
Ok. The rules are simple. Earn as much money as you can, and dont get shot.
When you start the game, you will see a little spaceship in the middle of the screen. That is you. Use the left and right arrow keys to turn, and the up arrow to fire your thrusters. Once you start moving it is not easy to stop. You will eventually coast to a halt, but if you are in a hurry you will have to turn round and fire your thrusters in the opposite direction.
If you fly around a bit, you will probably come across a planet or another hip (HINT: you can see all the planets and ships on the radar display at the top right of the screen).
There are two things to remember about planets. One is that if you fly into
them you get hurt. The other is that if you fly up close to one and then
press ENTER, you go to the shipyard.
Enhancements:
- Corrected code to compile with allegro 4.1.15 and gcc 3
- Added rest(0) to game loops to drop CPU
- Added some information to the top left of the screen
- Can repair if less than 10% damage
- Removed most of joystick support-related calls
- Removed play midi calls (BUGFIX !)
- Changed keybindings, defined in keybinds.h
- Increased bullet life (48 > 75)
- Increased treasure life (100->5000)
- Speed variation
- Laser, proton and matter can be used together
- Config file for keybindings using Zlog code
- Removed VC++-related stuff in the makefile, added mingw32
- Added commandline options parsing using Zlog code
- Added quiet option, hardconfig option, gfxmode and askgfx options
- Added mouse support (more comfortable for askgfx)
- Removed midi files from marauder.dat as theyre not used anymore
- Changed proton and matter cannon sprites so that theyre visible when used together
- Added configure script from Zlog (detects, downloads builds and installs allegro 4.1.15)
- Enemies now upgrade their weapons when possible
- Player can sell his stuff (weapons and so)
- Ships are drawn randomly at each different execution of the program (just added a rand() call)
- Changed weapon price

Celestia 1.4.1
Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions. more>>
Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions.
Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesnt confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy.
All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A point-and-goto interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.
Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If thats not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.
Enhancements:
- This version is a mostly a bugfix release for the Celestia Engine.
- The GTK/GNOME front-ends feature a new slash screen.
- The install was cleaned up and packages should now be several megabytes smaller.

Messiggy 0.5.0
Messiggy is a software that contains database of celestial objects. more>>
Messiggy is a software that contains database of celestial objects, as cataloged by the French astronomer Charles Messier in the mid-18th century.
Messeir was a comet hunter, and the objects in his list -- galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters -- were often mistaken for comets by astronomers of his time. Messiers list contains many of the most beautiful objects in the heavens.
From the glorius Andromeda galaxy to the wispy delights of the Trifid Nebula, these celestial visions are often part of the "Messier Marathon", a personal contest to view all 110 objects in a single night.
This version of Messiggy is a beta release. Select an object from the main panel, and the program will display an informational window describing the object. Future versions will include:
Annotations
Annotations attach observation notes and images (yours, or someone elses) to a Messier Object.
Star Charts
Future versions of Messigy will plot several types of star charts.
Marathon tracker
A tool for organizing and recording a Messier Marathon.
Internationalization
The final releases of Messiggy will support interfaces in languages other than English. Given the talents of my lovely wife, the initial version will likely include a Spanish translation.
As always, Im open to suggestions.

travtrack 0.6.7
travtrack project is a Galaxy generator & editor for Traveller(tm). more>>
travtrack project is a Galaxy generator & editor for Traveller(tm).
travtrack is a tool to help a Traveller(tm) referee keep track of essential data for a game.
Already implemented are galaxies, sectors, subsectors, systems, stars, planets, belt and moons.
Yet to be implemented are trade routes, ships, characters, and all the rest. These will take some time, but should not be too complex. It currently uses the GURPS Traveller:First In rules for system generation, but a subproject is under way to add Classic Traveller generation and output.
travlib is a collection of C routines that should make writing a Traveller application easier. A guile interface to the data representation functions is provided.
Main features:
- Display of hex-mapped navigational data for subsectors Implemented
- Display of system, stellar and planetary information
- Display of galactic and sector maps
- Display of systems as orbits
- Display of planets as orbits (i.e., with moons orbiting)
- Generation of subsectors, systems, stars, planets, belts and moons
- Generation of world information (governments, TL &c.)
- Auto-generation of merchant routes
- Support for Classic and GURPS Traveller rulesets

SlackFire 0.44.2
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy. more>>
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy.
SlackFires main purpose is to protect a stand-alone machine or a small network with a stateful firewall that can be configured easily but in big detail.
Why another iptables script? There are a lot in the Internet, many of them with pretty nice GUI!
First of all, I didnt want to have a firewall that I only could manage and configure via GUI.
Next, I needed to work with a LAN with machines having routable IP addresses. Quite a few scripts available in the Net supported this feature.
Even lesser number of scripts supported configuration of fine-tuned rules. The majority of them just allowed all outgoing connections permitting replies to go back. I wanted to restrict outgoing traffic, too.
I also wanted that configuration can be performed without touching the main script and that this could be done by a person with very little knowledge about iptables.
Thus, I found it easier to write a script of my own than to tune a script written by somebody else.
Version restrictions:
- Currently, SF protects at most two network devices. All other network devices are not affected by the firewall in case packets are sent directly to the box running SF. Forwarded packets are dropped though. (The latter behaviour can be easily fixed.)
- I havent tried SF at machines that use DHCP. I expect that some tuning may be needed, especially in case the script is installed on a DHCP server.
- SF has only been tested on machines running Slackware >=9.0 with C locale. Certain things can break if messages produced by ifconfig and iptables use other languages than English. (This can be easily fixed if needed.)
- There is no support for NFS through a protected network interface yet. This will be fixed.
- Support of FreeS/WAN is not implemented.
There are undoubtedly more, partially because netfilter provides an incredibly rich range of possibilities. Actually, I havent seen an iptables script in the Internet with all the iptables possibilities implemented.
Enhancements:
- A minor change was made in bash syntax when proceeding configuration files.
- Temporary files are now created using mktemp.

- Temporary files are now created using mktemp.

jFlash System 1.6
jFlash is a multilingual, web-based flashcard system based on open web standards, PHP, and XML. more>>
jFlash is a multilingual, web-based flashcard system based on open web standards, PHP, and XML. jFlash System consists of two principal software modules:
1. A PHP system for indexing and delivering flashcard content.
2. A browser-neutral Javascript application that parses out and presents a set flashcards represented in XML.
jFlash is useful when you want to memorize something, and perhaps share the ability to memorize things with other people over the web. In addition, jFlash is language neutral since its content is presented in UTF-8, so theoretically you could use jFlash to drill anything from Arabic airports to zoo names in Tamil.
A number of learners around the globe and about 15 students in a University of Minnesota Korean class.
Please let me know if you find my software useful and Ill add a link to your jFlash content on my page if you wish!
jFlash is a server-side web application, so you must at present have a PHP-enabled web server.
Enhancements:
- The PHP frontend was updated to be compatible with PHP versions 5.0 or later by using the included compatibility shim for the new PHP XML DOM interface.
- A few more example lessons were added.

Space Commander 0.4
Space Commander is a game that aims to be similar to Elite and Privateer, with maybe a bit of Trade Wars thrown in. more>>
Space Commander is a game that aims to be similar to Elite and Privateer, with maybe a bit of Trade Wars thrown in.
The project is a remarkably functional space simulation with under 200 lines of code in the main file.
DEPENDENCIES
You need a recent version of Python and some support libraries. The game is currently being written using Python v 2.4.3 but it may work with newer or older versions with some minor tweaking. I intend to be using Python 2.5 and PyGame 1.8 shortly.
- Python 2.4.3
- PyGame 1.7
- Numeric 22.0
Basically you need a pretty complete Python kit. Most Linux distributions should have everything that you need and Windows / OSX users will be able to install it all with a small bit of effort.
To play the MIDI score in Linux you have to install and configure Timidity due to some old code in sdl-mixer which is a pre-dependency of PyGame. If the game crashes and
complains about midi, just comment out the MIDI line in spacecommander.py to disable it.
As to performance issues. I pass the buck. If it runs too slowly then get a faster computer, better graphics card, better operating system, whatever.
The idea of writing this in Python is to have a compromise between ultimate performance and the ability to understand and tinker around with the code.
You could try reducing the number of stars in the galaxy by editing bigbang.py also.
Feel free to re-write the game in hand optimized assembler, but you must send me a copy of your code per the LICENSE.
RUNNING THE GAME
Linux: ./spacecommander.py
KEYBOARD COMMANDS
ESC / Q: Quit the game
Left / Right: Yaw
Up / Down: Pitch
PgUp / PgDN: Roll
Enhancements:
- The main engine was completely rewritten and now supports flying a spaceship around a randomly generated galaxy. 2D rendering of objects using PyGame is supported.
- Mouse flight control is featured.
