Galaxy project is a stellar motion simulator which can show the development of a random field of stars. more>>
Galaxy project is a stellar motion simulator which can show the development of a random field of stars into patterns such as clusters and spiral arms.
Galaxy is a free Linux computer program which simulates the motion of stars under the influence of gravity. Create a field of random stars to begin with, then watch the stars move as they are accelerated by their mutual gravitational attractions.
You can vary the number of stars, their initial velocities around a center, and the strength of the attractive force between them. Watch how the attractive forces accelerate individual stars and send them careening in new directions. Watch how large groups of stars develop into interesting patterns over time, such as clusters and spiral arms.
Galaxy is not for serious physics, but more a toy or educational aid for young students of science.

SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - lets you create a Web Service to your enterprise data within 15 minutes. more>>
SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - project lets you create a Web Service to your enterprise data within 15 minutes. All you need is a Servlet Container, a Database and a Browser.
The information can be accessed either via a SOAP Document/Literal Style Web Service or a simple XML-Request/Response structure.
A free download and license is available as also a free Eclipse Plugin that lets you implement the data into your business application.
The data is secured by userid / role permissions. The WSDL for the Web Service can be public or private so you decide who accesses your data.
Data consistency over platforms is provided by an independency layer that makes it easy to migrate the underlying data to another source.
SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is a service to provide Data access. This section explains the features that are already available in SAGA.M31 - Galaxy -. No future selling, but real information. The Functionality of SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is strong oriented to provide access to the most important Information sources without any programming knowledge.
This separates the business logic from the data access logic and helps to improve performance by having database experts building the data structure and definition and application programmer focussing on the business logic.
Because we permanently enhance the feature sets, we ask you to visit this site regular. As an alternate option you can use our RSS Feed to be informed automatically. Subscribing to our newsletter is very welcome, so you will get first hand information.

Paradise 2000 Netrek Client RC5
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. more>>
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. Paradise 2000 Netrek Client is not a fork, because that would imply parallel development, but no one else has done anything with the client since about five years ago.
Paradise 2000 is in fact one of the most, if not the most, actively developed Netrek clients available today. It is for Linux (and FreeBSD) only, and is not open source*. Dont let the Paradise name fool you, it works just fine on standard bronco servers. Nobody has even played a game of Paradise Netrek for years!
The biggest new feature of the client, not found in any other, is the sound system. While the old Paradise client, Ted Turner, COW, and COW ports (Netrek1999,2000) have a simple sound effect system, its crap. Especially the one used by COW. The Paradise/Ted Turner one is better, and is partially written by me, though you wouldnt know that*.
The Paradise 2000 sound system has psychoacoustic stereo effects that place sounds based on where they happen. If someone on the left blows up, you can tell they are on the left just from the sound. The newest version of Paradise-2000 has a sound system with speech output using IBMs ViaVoice TTS. If a teammate sends a carrying message, the client will actually say something like, "F one carrying five to org."
Main features:
- See weapons on galactic map
- Auto-rotate galaxy to put playing teams on left side
- Dashboard timer to show repair or refit time remaining
- See the army count for the planet your are orbiting
- Remap your keys via the help window. Just push the key you want over the name of the function you want to assign to it.
- Use the same key for both bombing armies and picking armies. The client can tell by context with one would make sense.
- You can set configuration options to different values for different server types.
- Double buffering support for graphics. When turned on, eliminates flicker. Very useful for LCD monitors.
- Extensive support for enhanced observer mode:
- See all players tractors and pressors while observing.
- You can lock onto a cloaked player and observe them.
- All your ship stats will reflect the player you are observing. Even torps out, kills, and army capacity.
- Your ship and player letter dont get drawn on top of the player you are observings ship and letter.
- Observers wont have stats shown in your player list, cluttering it up unnecessarily..
- Stereo sound effects!
- Highly configurable speech synthesis!
- Option to omit the team letter of ships on the galactic. Just show 0 instead of F0, since you can tell the team by the color of the letter.
- Game score on hockey servers calculated and put on the galactic for easy reference.
- Cool looking streaking background stars when transwarping on Bronco servers.
- Flags on the dashboard gauges indicating the fuel/shields/hull needed to refit or transwarp.
- Single key transwarp on Bronco servers. Push - to automatically lock onto your base and warp to it!
- 19FLAGS protocol enhancement. Reduces messed up flags from packetloss. Hockey players, this will eliminate stuck tractors and pressors.
- Works with WindowMaker. Window manager delete buttons work.
- Hockey bug fix, puck doesnt cloak at warp 15 or 31.
- Support for short packets 2. Reduces bandwidth and improves playability with packetloss.
- Supports SBHOURS feature, see how many base hours someone has.
- Shrink phasers, like BRMH.
- Support for wheel mice. The wheel will scroll the message windows, and can be bound to actions like other mouse buttons.
- Re-enter the game after dying by pushing the spacebar, instead of clicking on the right team window. Faster and prevents selecting the wrong team on accident in 4v4 hockey games.
- 32 position ship bitmaps. Your ship rotations will look smoother.
- Small red circle around ship shows det radius.
- Tic marks to show exact ship heading.
- Arrow on puck to indicate direction.
- ID of player you are tractoring displayed next to your ship.
- Configure what columns are in the player list, both the one-column and two-column list. You can also change the width of the each field, so show fewer digits for instance.
- UDP portswap option that lets the client work through NAT firewalls, like Linux IP_MASQ, without a special module.

SlackFire 0.44.2
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy. more>>
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy.
SlackFires main purpose is to protect a stand-alone machine or a small network with a stateful firewall that can be configured easily but in big detail.
Why another iptables script? There are a lot in the Internet, many of them with pretty nice GUI!
First of all, I didnt want to have a firewall that I only could manage and configure via GUI.
Next, I needed to work with a LAN with machines having routable IP addresses. Quite a few scripts available in the Net supported this feature.
Even lesser number of scripts supported configuration of fine-tuned rules. The majority of them just allowed all outgoing connections permitting replies to go back. I wanted to restrict outgoing traffic, too.
I also wanted that configuration can be performed without touching the main script and that this could be done by a person with very little knowledge about iptables.
Thus, I found it easier to write a script of my own than to tune a script written by somebody else.
Version restrictions:
- Currently, SF protects at most two network devices. All other network devices are not affected by the firewall in case packets are sent directly to the box running SF. Forwarded packets are dropped though. (The latter behaviour can be easily fixed.)
- I havent tried SF at machines that use DHCP. I expect that some tuning may be needed, especially in case the script is installed on a DHCP server.
- SF has only been tested on machines running Slackware >=9.0 with C locale. Certain things can break if messages produced by ifconfig and iptables use other languages than English. (This can be easily fixed if needed.)
- There is no support for NFS through a protected network interface yet. This will be fixed.
- Support of FreeS/WAN is not implemented.
There are undoubtedly more, partially because netfilter provides an incredibly rich range of possibilities. Actually, I havent seen an iptables script in the Internet with all the iptables possibilities implemented.
Enhancements:
- A minor change was made in bash syntax when proceeding configuration files.
- Temporary files are now created using mktemp.

Scum of the Universe 1.0
Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. more>>
Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. On one side, its a classic vertical-scrolling space shooter game. On the other side, it is an adventure and strategy. You should choose whether youll be an independent space trader, firearms smuggler, fierce freedom-fighter or something in between.
Following the main storyline, you go through the galaxy from one planet to another. Space travel requires fuel, so you need to keep earning money to buy it. You can also buy various upgrades for your spaceship and weapons that affect the arcade part of the game. The storyline itself is not linear. There are also some points where youll need to make decisions that will determine your destiny.
For thousands of years, people of planet Xen have colonized the planets in their galaxy. As time went by, many colonies grew unhappy about their status, as everything was controlled by Xen. Some of them organized military units and declared independence. You can see the status of each planet by "Rebel Sentiment" indicator. Planets with RS higher than 50% are ruled by the Rebel government, and Rebel laws apply.
Trading firearms is legal on planets ruled by Rebels, as they need as much firepower as they can get. On the other hand, Empire forbid all the trading with firearms and other ground weaponry as they wish to maintain their military advantage. One of the ways to make a lot of money is to buy cheap guns at Empire planets and sell them for a lot of money on Rebel planets where demand is extremely high. But be careful as youll need to fight Empire fleet once they find out youre a smuggler.
Beside the raging war between Xen Empire and the rebels there is increased activity of alien species, who destroy human ships. The stronger alien activity, the more waves of alien ships youll need to defeat in each planets outer orbit. Some of the aliens you destroy may drop artifacts (big blue ones) which you can sell at any space station for 20credits a piece.

Perceptual Image Diff 1.0.1
Perceptual Image Diff is an image comparison utility that makes use of a computational model of the human visual system. more>>
Perceptual Image Diff is an image comparison utility that makes use of a computational model of the human visual system to compare two images.
Its useful for running automated regression testing on images that are perceptually identical but have minor pixel noise from different random number generators or small changes to algorithms.
Build Instructions:
This project makes use of the Cross Platform Make Utility and the libtiff library. You will also need Subversion to obtain the source.
1. Edit CMakeLists.txt as necessary to point to libtiff
2. Type cmake .
3. Type make .
4. pdiff should be compiled for your target system
Usage:
pdiff image1.tif image2.tif [options]
-verbose : Turns on verbose mode
-fov deg: field of view, deg, in degrees. Usually between 10.0 to 85.0. This controls how much of the screen the oberserver is seeing. Front row of a theatre has a field of view of around 25 degrees. Back row has a field of view of around 60 degrees.
-threshold p : Sets the number of pixels, p, to reject. For example if p is 100, then the test fails if 100 or more pixels are perceptably different.
-gamma g : The gamma to use to convert to RGB linear space. Default is 2.2
-luminance l: The luminance of the display the observer is seeing. Default is 100 candela per meter squared.
Enhancements:
- Incorporated bug fix from Cairo team that fixed a memory access error
- Changed the way the program releases memory from libpng to fix linking error with new versions of libpng.
- Tested with libpng version 1.2.8

Space Commander is a game that aims to be similar to Elite and Privateer, with maybe a bit of Trade Wars thrown in.
The project is a remarkably functional space simulation with under 200 lines of code in the main file.
DEPENDENCIES
You need a recent version of Python and some support libraries. The game is currently being written using Python v 2.4.3 but it may work with newer or older versions with some minor tweaking. I intend to be using Python 2.5 and PyGame 1.8 shortly.
- Python 2.4.3
- PyGame 1.7
- Numeric 22.0
Basically you need a pretty complete Python kit. Most Linux distributions should have everything that you need and Windows / OSX users will be able to install it all with a small bit of effort.
To play the MIDI score in Linux you have to install and configure Timidity due to some old code in sdl-mixer which is a pre-dependency of PyGame. If the game crashes and
complains about midi, just comment out the MIDI line in spacecommander.py to disable it.
As to performance issues. I pass the buck. If it runs too slowly then get a faster computer, better graphics card, better operating system, whatever.
The idea of writing this in Python is to have a compromise between ultimate performance and the ability to understand and tinker around with the code.
You could try reducing the number of stars in the galaxy by editing bigbang.py also.
Feel free to re-write the game in hand optimized assembler, but you must send me a copy of your code per the LICENSE.
RUNNING THE GAME
Linux: ./spacecommander.py
KEYBOARD COMMANDS
ESC / Q: Quit the game
Left / Right: Yaw
Up / Down: Pitch
PgUp / PgDN: Roll
Enhancements:
- The main engine was completely rewritten and now supports flying a spaceship around a randomly generated galaxy. 2D rendering of objects using PyGame is supported.
- Mouse flight control is featured.
<<lessThe project is a remarkably functional space simulation with under 200 lines of code in the main file.
