QMail Installation is a small and very practical script that makes it easy to install qmail and other related tools, such as vpopmail, qmailadmin, spamassassin, F-prot, and qmailmrtg.
Installation
You MUST be root for using this script.
1. Create a directory where you wish and go inside.
2. De tar install_qmail-x.x.x.tar.gz in this directory.
3. Look at the header of install_qmail-x.x.x.sh
4. Change the values in the install_qmail-x.x.x.sh file according to your installation.
All are commented.
5. Do NOT change values in others files.
6. Comment the good line before lauching the script.
7. sh install_qmail-x.x.x.sh
You must choose between debian or suse in the top of the file.
You have also a file (apt-debian.sh) to install all necessary *.deb
You could also modify values.suse or values.debian for a custom installation.
Enhancements:
- The versions of the installed software were updated.
- Minor changes were made in the supervise scripts for chkuser.
- Minor changes were made in the simscan installation.
- The values.suse10.0 file was added.
- Minor debugging was done in the ezmlm installation.

Automatic Firewall is a script that will automatically configure a firewall. If you are a broadband or dial-up user who doesnt have a firewall script, you need to get one to protect yourself. AutoFW is made to help you do that with no efforts.
Many people when connecting to the internet need a firewall script made for them so they can surf the net without being susceptible to various attacks. Most, if not all (until now :-), of the existing scripts are written for a large range of requirements and require some tweaking to make them work for a specific user. However many users do not know which parameters to fill in the script config file.
AutoFW intends to provide a simple firewall script that you just need to fire and forget. You make sure to run it on computer start-up or just before connecting to the net, and it will detect network condition and setup appropriate firewall rules for you.
In order to be "smart" AutoFW has to be limited, the current scope of AutoFW are standard broadband connections, it will also cover dial-up users and stand-alone servers.
AutoFW works only for Linux IPTables firewall and needs the iptables utility to update the firewall, it also needs the ifconfig utility, both of these are available on any standard install of a GNU/Linux machine.
AutoFW also needs the ip program which is part of the iproute2 package, sometimes also called iproute. It is available as a package for any standard GNU/Linux install, not it might not be installed in your particular.
There are two parts that do automatic detection, one is for interfaces and IPs and the other is for open listening ports.
The interface part looks at all the active interfaces in the machine and classifies them between internal and external. It does that by looking at the IPv4 address of the device. If it is one of:
127.0.0.0/8
10.0.0.0/8
172.16.0.0/12
192.168.0.0/16
it is considered to be an internal IP and thus an internal interface, otherwise it is an external IP and thus an external interface. There is no handling of an interface with both an internal and an external IP on it.
The listening ports are scanned for a known port and the accompanying known program name that binds to that port, known ports are opened later in the configuration stage.
The configuration itself is very simple for now, without many of the bell and whistles that exist in other scripts, but it works for the basic needs and provides adequate protection.

Unfortunately, the news in FC5 is almost all bad. Totem and Xine are both completely broken.

There are some Damned Things like enabling Java and Flash in Mozilla, playing MP3 files, playing Quicktime/AVI/RealMedia/Windows Media streams, and playing encrypted DVDs that the Fedora distro folks wont tell you how to do, either because theyre afraid of being sued under the DMCA or for various other esthetic and political reasons.

This HOWTO collects the relevant information in one place. It is not a general multimedia-on-Linux HOWTO; if it were, there are hundreds of nifty tools and packages it would list (starting with the GIMP and all its kindred and forks and symbiotes). The packages well cover here are just the legal and political hot potatoes, the stuff that threatens monopolies and worries lawyers.

OpticalRayTracer is a free Linux utility that analyzes systems of lenses, it is Xwindows GUI-based.

It uses optical principles and a virtual optical bench to predict the behavior of many kinds of ordinary and exotic lens types. OpticalRayTracer includes an advanced, easy-to-use interface that allows the user to rearrange the optical configuration by simply dragging lenses around using the mouse.

OpticalRayTracer fully analyzes lens optical properties, incuding refraction and dispersion. The dispersion display uses color-coded light beams, as shown above, to simplify interpretation of the results.

Educators take note: OpticalRayTracer has significant educational potential in the teaching of basic optical principles, and it has some entertaining and game-like behaviors to hold the students attention.

OpticalRayTracer includes a detailed tutorial/help file to assist the user in getting started in this interesting activity.

Installation:

Put it in any convenient location.
$ tar -xjf raytracer.tar.bz2
$ cd raytracer.dist
$ ./auto_install.sh
If you dont want the automatic installation or you want to fine-tune the process, instead of running "auto_install.sh", after the unpacking step above, do this:
$ make -f Makefile.cvs dist
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
Obviously you may want to modify some of these steps to suit your platform.

Lexmark Z11 printer driver for Linux is a Linux printer driver/filter for the Lexmark Z11 printer, supporting color and b/w printing, variable page size and more.
The driver lz11-V2 is an improvement of the lz11 driver, which was first released in 2002. Additionally to the features of lz11, which include variable page sizes and ink saving, the lz11-V2 version comes with a backward compatibility mode for the filters "cZ11" and "cZ11somsom". While the cZ11 filter is emulated in an improved way, which helps to save ink and takes away the grayish look of color prints, the cZ11somsom emulation only supports the basic properties (as InkType and DitherPPI). Ink weighting is not included, but merely needed, because of a new pixel placement algorithm for black and color ink.
"Highlights" of the lz11-V2 are: further improved printing speed for black ink and a tool to align the skew of the black ink cartridge. A smooth-dithering algorithm for black and color prints was added. The driver comes with an improved set of installation and utility scripts that support automatic installation-option-checking, testpage-printing, black-ink-adjustment, automatic installation of foomatic-xml-files as well as automatic installation of the included PPD files for CUPS and PPR. For backward compatibility reason the GhostScript device emulation (as "hpdj", "epsonc", ...) is still included, but should never be offered on "modern" Linux installations.
The original driver-code "cZ11" was written by Christian Kornblum in 2001 (this code still is the backbone of this filter).
WARNING:This driver is known not to work with the Z31 and Z51. In fact, it is known to hose those printers flash in some circumstances!
Enhancements:
- The installer can be called by ./lz11.install --debug, which will produce BMP files instead of paper prints (for test)
- Now the cups-restart is done also properly for Debian and Gentoo
- An installed Z11 printer-queue (PPD) and its options are updated automatically during installation
- The print-job cancelling is now appropriate for hotplug generated devices. Printer "hick-ups" on a resume are prevented
- The print-job cancelling is shown automatically in an "xterm"
