AFROS Live CD is a bootable CD with a small collection of GNU/Linux software, ARAnyM and the AFROS. AFROS Live CD boots and runs completely from CD, does not write anything to the harddrive and so is safe to try out. It is meant as a demo version of ARAnyM/AFROS. It is not the dreamed Installation CD of ARAnyM yet (although it could be modified to work so).

The underlying Linux kernel and related software provide the CD autoboot, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. ARAnyM plus AFROS provide our familiar and favourite TOS/FreeMiNT/GEM operating environment. Its all integrated seamlessly and after PowerOn boots straight to the Teradesk (GEM desktop).

AFROS Live CD is distributed in the form of a CD ISO image which is the usual way of distributing CDs electronically. The ISO image file can be burnt on a CD-R/RW and so youll get an exact copy of the AFROS Live CD I created on my machine.

AFROS Live CD configuration:

fVDI resolution and/or color depth change: open up the C:FVDI.SYS (double click it and select Edit), locate the "01r aranym.sys mode 800x600x16@72" line, comment it out and uncomment one of the other prepared lines (or just make up your own). Then reboot the AFROS.

The ARAnyM Config GUI is unfinished yet so changes to ARAnyM config must be done outside of ARAnyM in the .aranym/config file. When you quit ARAnyM you should be able to edit the file with one of the supplied GNU/Linux editors (in the future this shouldnt be necessary as I am working on the Config GUI as you read this).

DSL site (AFROS Live CD is based on the DSL) might give you some hints about preserving the changes youve made to the AFROS disk image or ARAnyM configuration (you might also want to read File Restoration -> HowTo in the X11 desktop). Note that this is untested by me and might be dangerous. Try it on your own risk only.

CD-Rom Control is an X Window control panel which eases the use of the cd-rom drive. It allows you to mount, eject/umount, the cd-rom drive at the click of a button.Other features include autostart and cd status checking.

This software is provided as is and has been designed for use on a Linux system. If you are using it on a non-Linux system and you find/fix errors please let me know. If you have problems you can contact me and I will try to answer your queries. Once you have the software you may do with it what you will. The only thing I ask is that if you make any changes, add new features,
let me know and e-mail me a copy of it so I can include the new features or changes into the next version.

Debian From Scratch is really two systems:

1) a bootable CD for repairing Linux systems or installing Debian;
2) the program that generates the CDs that are used for #1.

You can expect the following from your DFS CD:

* Bootable CD featuring the GNU Grub bootloader. Can be used to boot hard disk partitions even if no hard disk bootloader is present.

* Kernel and userland support for all major filesystems, including ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, FAT, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, CramFS, tmpfs, and more. Userland support for Reiser4.

* Kernel and userland support for different disk layout schemes including standard partitioning, Logical Volume Manager 2 (LVM2), software RAID, etc.

* Full recovery tools runnable directly from CD, including:

- Filesystem utilities for all mazjor filesystems, including undeletion tools for ext2

- Partition editors (fdisk, cfdisk, parted)

- Text editors (nano, joe, vim, emacs)

- C, Perl, Python, and OCaml development environments. Enough to configure and compile a new kernel and build basic .debs. Kernel 2.6.6 sources included on CD.

- Full networking support, including PPP and various Ethernet cards and DHCP

- Network tools including FTP clients, Web client, ssh, telnet, NFS, smbclient, tcpdump, netcat, etc.

- Backup restoration tools such as rdiff-backup, dump/restore, tar, cpio, amanda client, afbackup client, etc.

- CD and DVD burning tools

- Basic printing tools (cat for local printers, rlpr for remote ones, and netcat for Jetdirect, plus unix2dos for text files and Ghostscript for emergency conversions)

- Mail reader (mutt)

* Base systems for multiple versions of Debian installable directly from CD, including: woody (i386), sarge (i386), sid (i386), and sid (amd64). Alpha CD can install woody, sarge, or sid for Alpha.

* amd64 support: Enough to install or fix an AMD64 system. Includes 64-bit kernel with 32-bit emulation (to run the 32-bit userland on the CD). Also includes 64-bit package for bootstrapping a new AMD64 support. In short, you can boot a 64-bit kernel and be treated as a first-class citizen in almost all respects.

* i386 or x86_64 (amd64) kernels bootable directly from initial boot menu.

* DFS generation scripts support custom kernels, packages, mirrors, compressed ISO images, and a high degree of flexibility.

RipOff is a GTK+ based CD ripper for Linux (and hopefully for other Unix systems once some testing and fixing have been done) that has a simple interface, CDDB lookups, and a plugin-based encoder architecture.
RipOff CD Ripper attempts to appeal to those users who want a non-GNOME dependent CD ripper with a simple interface, or users who just dont like the interfaces of the other GTK+ CD rippers.
Enhancements:

- Fixed a bug where for newer versions of GTK "about" dialogue windows were not closing
- FLAC plugin now supports FLAC 1.1.3

Phantomix is a Knoppix based Operating System running on a CD drive without using the hard drive.
Phantomix Live CD is configured to use the Tor and Privoxy software for anonymous internet communication.
Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications for your safety and security.
Known Issues:
- compared to direct internet connection, browsing is slow
- due to ad and junk filtering some sites may not work as expected (googlemail, ezboard)
- sometimes pages have to be reloaded very often until they are displayed correctly.

FAI-CD represents fully automatic installation from CD or DVD.
FAI-CD puts all data needed for a fully automatic installation on a CD. So not network is needed and you can install the whole system from CD. The script creates an ISO image that includes the nfsroot, the configuration space and a partitial Debian mirror.
- Choose FAISERVER for installing the host as a FAI install server
- The XFREE configuration uses 24 bit color depth by default, so on older graphics cards, if will not succesfully start gdm.
- The system will be installed to the first disk (either IDE or SCSI). All data on the disk will be deleted.
- All log files from the installation can be found in /var/log/fai/localhost/last/
- After the installation the account demo with the password fai is available.
- The root password is also fai.

Etoile Live CD is a Linux distribution based on the popular Ubuntu Linux.

This is the 0.2 pre-release that we worked on at the Fosdem 2007. Theres still quite a lot of problems on it (check the bugtracker), so we expect the final 0.2 release in about a month. In the meantime, feel free to download the iso and play with it -- and reports any bugs that are not already in the bugtracker !"

Fedora Rescue CD is a rescue CD for Fedora Core based systems.
The Fedora Project is a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. It is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat products. It is not a supported product of Red Hat, Inc.
The goal of The Fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from free software. Development will be done in a public forum. The project will produce time-based releases of Fedora Core about 2-3 times a year with a public release schedule.
The Red Hat engineering team will continue to participate in the building of Fedora Core and will invite and encourage more outside participation than was possible in Red Hat Linux.
By using this more open process, we hope to provide an operating system that uses free software development practices and is more appealing to the open source community.
