FreeType 2 is a software font engine that is designed to be small, efficient, highly customizable and portable while capable of producing high-quality output (glyph images). FreeType 2 project can be used in graphics libraries, display servers, font conversion tools, text image generation tools, and many other products as well.
Note that FreeType 2 is a font service and doesnt provide APIs to perform higher-level features, like text layout or graphics processing (e.g. colored text rendering, "hollowing", etc..).
However, it greatly simplifies these tasks by providing a simple, easy to use and uniform interface to access the content of font files.
FreeType 2 is released under two open-source licenses: our own BSD-like FreeType License and the GPL. It can thus be used by any kind of projects, be they proprietary or not.
Main features:
- FreeType 2 provides a simple and easy-to-use API to access font content in a uniform way, independently of the file format. Additionally, some format-specific APIs can be used to access special data in the font file.
- Unlike most comparable libraries, FreeType 2 supports scalable font formats like TrueType or Type 1 natively and can return the outline data (and control instructions/hints) to client applications.
- The design of FreeType 2 is based on modules that can be either linked statically to the library at compile time, or loaded on demand at runtime. Modules are used to support specific font formats, or even new glyph image formats !
- FreeType 2 was written with embedded systems in mind. This means that it doesnt use static writable data (i.e. it can be run from ROM directly), that client applications can provide their own memory manager and i/o stream implementation.
- The latter allows you to easily read from ROM-based, compressed or remote font files with the same API. Several stream implementations can be used concurrently with a single FreeType 2 instance.
- You can also reduce the size of the FreeType 2 code by only compiling the modules you need for your embedded project/environment.
- By default, FreeType 2 supports the following font formats:
- TrueType fonts (and collections)
- Type 1 fonts
- CID-keyed Type 1 fonts
- CFF fonts
- OpenType fonts (both TrueType and CFF variants)
- SFNT-based bitmap fonts
- X11 PCF fonts
- Windows FNT fonts
- BDF fonts (including anti-aliased ones)
- PFR fonts
- Type42 fonts (limited support)
- From a given glyph outline, FreeType 2 is capable of producing a high-quality monochrome bitmap, or anti-aliased pixmap, using 256 levels of "gray". This is much better than the 5 levels used by Windows 9x/98/NT/2000 or FreeType 1.
- FreeType 2 supports all the character mappings defined by the TrueType and OpenType specification. It is also capable of automatically synthetizing a Unicode charmap from Type 1 fonts, which puts an end to the painful "encoding translation" headache common with this format (of course, original encodings are also available in the case where you need them..).
- The FreeType 2 core API provides simple functions to access advanced information like glyph names or kerning data.
- A full-featured and efficient TrueType bytecode interpreter. The engine is able to produce excellent output at small point sizes. This component has been extremely difficult to get right, due to the ambiguous and misleadings TrueType specifications. However, we now match Windows and Mac qualities. Please read our Patents page to learn more about some issues when using the interpreter.
- For those who dont need or want to use the bytecode interpreter for TrueType fonts, we developed our own automatic hinter module. It is also used by other scalable formats.
- FreeType 2 provides information that is often not available from other similar font engines, like kerning distances, glyph names, vertical metrics, etc..
- Due to its modular design, its easy to enhance the library to provide additional format-specific information through optional APIs (as an example, an optional API is provided to retrieve SFNT tables from TrueType and OpenType fonts).
- FreeType 2 provides its own caching subsystem since release 2.0.1. It can be used to cache either face instances or glyph images efficiently.

pysqlite is a Python DB-API 2.0 interface for the SQLite embedded relational database engine.
Enhancements:
- pysqlite is now 2.5 times faster for DML statements.
- This pays off especially for bulk-loading data.
- pysqlite now recognizes if the database engine has done an implicit ROLLBACK and acts accordingly.
- Using custom mapping and sequence types in parameters works now.

Samhain is a multiplatform, open source solution for centralized file integrity checking / host-based intrusion detection on POSIX systems (Unix, Linux, Cygwin/Windows).
samhain project has been designed to monitor multiple hosts with potentially different operating systems from a central location, although it can also be used as standalone application on a single host.
Main features:
Centralized monitoring
- Samhain clients (or agents) can connect to a central log server via secure (encrypted and authenticated) TCP connections. This allows central logging to the server, central storage of baseline databases and client configuration data, and central updates of baseline databases.
Web-based management console
- For client/server installations, a web-based console - Beltane - is available as separate package. Beltane allows to monitor server and client activity, view client reports, and update the baseline databases on the server side.
Multiple logging facilities
- Samhain supports multiple logging facilities, each of which can be configured individually. Supported logging facilities include (but are not limited to) tamper-resistant logfile, syslog, email, relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or unixODBC) and the Prelude IDS.
Tamper resistance
- Samhain offers PGP-signed database and configuration files, a stealth mode, and several more features to protect against attempts to subvert the integrity of the samhain client / agent.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes some minor bugs.
- The portcheck module tears down connections for some common protocols more gracefully.

Featherweight Linux is my Live-CD installable Linux distribution that I remastered from Feather Linux, which is built on knoppix technology. Youll find some great people over at Feather and you can find some good documentation there.
Their goal is to make a light and fast Linux with a very small footprint that can be installed on USB pen drives and such. My goal is a bit different. I want a full featured Linux that isnt bloated with a kazillion gigs of crap that Ill never use. I want a small footprint that is light and fast, even on older machines, but still carries a knockout punch.
So I took Feather and stripped out a bunch of apps that I never even thought of using. I wanted to make an easy to understand desktop that was compatible and easily configurable with the latest apps being developed, so I removed all of the window managers and installed a minimal KDE 3.3 desktop.
I included the most popular internet apps like the Mozilla Suite complete with plugins, Gaim, Gftp etc... I added full printer support and wifi support. In my test environment, it automatically detects and configures both my network printer (HP PSC 1210)and my linksys wireless card. Hopefully, itll do the same for you. It is debian based so I installed Synaptic for easy upgrading and totally FREE software management. Customizing your own system with the software that you want is only a few clicks away.
In its current state, the ISO is about 240mb and the HDD install is about 700mb, which is about 1/4 of all the other overweight distros out there. Once you install it, you can install OpenOffice and a bunch of other stuff if you need it, but I just wanted to make a good solid functional base so you can build your own system if you want.
Featherweight is intended for novice users with "some" linux experience, intermediate users, and experienced linux users alike. It has a pretty straight forward install but you should know linux and HDD partitioning basics before trying to install it.

Enhancements:
- Ive upgraded e2fsprogs and e2fslibs as well as some other critical core files.
- I updated the apt sources and added abiword and acroread, as well as the acroread mozilla plugin, and I added kppp.
- I upgraded samba and switched the quick start konqueror and kde help buttons with a mozilla button and a konsole button.
- I fixed the install script where some folks were getting a blank screen after installation and added a grub install script for easy installation of grub after the initial install.
- The total installed size is now about 800mb.

FooBillard is a free OpenGL-billard game for Linux with realistic physics, AI-player and many gametypes like pool carambol or snooker. Why foo? Well, actually I had this logo (F.B.-Florian Berger) and then foo sounds a bit like pool (Somehow I wasnt quite attracted by the name FoolBillard) The main physics is quite mature but not yet perfect. If you are a billard-pro and youre missing some physics, please tell me. Cause Ive implemented it like I think it should work, which might differ from reality.
There are two supported implementations concerning the interface. A GLUT and an SDL implementation. So you need to have either GLUT or SDL installed on your system Furthermore libpng has to be installed for loading the textures and freetype2 is required for font rendering.

Math::Symbolic::Compiler is a Perl module that can compile Math::Symbolic trees to Perl code.

This module allows to compile Math::Symbolic trees to Perl code and/or anonymous subroutines whose arguments will be positionally mapped to the variables of the compiled Math::Symbolic tree.

The reason youd want to do this is that evaluating a Math::Symbolic tree to its numeric value is extremely slow. So is compiling, but once youve done all necessary symbolic calculations, you can take advantage of the speed gain of invoking a closure instead of evaluating a tree.

pyClamd library is a python interface to Clamd (Clamav daemon). By using pyClamd, you can add virus detection capabilities to your python software in an efficient and easy way.

Instead of pyClamav which uses libclamav, pyClamd may be used by a closed source product.
