phpreports 0.4.9
phpreports is a PHP report generator that uses XML report layout files to generate PHP code. more>>
PHPReports project started when I needed something to create some reports on the browser as replacement of those ones my company used to generate using tools like FoxPro, Visual Basic and all that m$ stuff you dudes know about.
I was starting PHP programming (still am) and was really excited about put all the info we need on the browser, but, no pain no gain, theres that kind of reports that needs to have grouping info, grouping break and all sort of grouping stuff including some operations like sum, max, min, average on group values. And printing !!! Breaking the report into pages to fit on the printer as the regular tools do.
It was perfectly possible using PHP, but a report is different from the other, and the customization of it using pure hand-made-code will take a time that I didnt, dont and wont have. So I decided to make it on a flexible way using XML files to make the report layout, creating PHP code to run it on the browser.
Now its easy to make reports - just define the report layout and put all the functions you want - simple, clean and easy. And the most important! Using this approach you can (I did) show your company that you dont need any other kind of software to make all the stuff you need (by, m$ stuff).
Enhancements:
- Added 3 JavaScript events: ONCLICK, ONMOUSEOVER and ONMOUSEOUT;
- Added the concept of input plugins. The first one convert the SQL query on a way it allows to show crosstab reports.

phpCodeGenie 3.0.2
phpCodeGenie is a code writer/generator for PHP/MySQL applications. more>>
phpCodeGenie (PCG) is a code generator for database driven applications. PCG can generate entire working basic database driven applications for you. PCG can generate code from different databases.
The database servers it can talk to via ADODB are :- MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase, Firebird, Informix, Oracle, MS SQL, Foxpro, Access, Sybase, FrontBase, DB2, SAP DB, SQLite and Netezza. While the core version generates mostly PHP Code, phpCodeGenie can be modified to generate code in any programming language - Perl, Java, C#, ASP etc..
phpCodeGenie attempts to generate these CRUD code so that programmers have a base they can work on. The core database access code and scripts are usually the same for most applications.
Rather than spending a lot of time doing these common code, we can spend our time on the business logic of our applications and let PCG do the boring code for you. phpCodeGenie can generate simple code for beginners where everything is done in the same PHP script or structure Object Oriented PHP Code that follows the PCG framework.
phpCodeGenie requires you to design your tables and then the genie can generate code for reading and writing to the database, the html forms to enter or edit data in the database, scripts to list data, scripts to delete data, search forms, search scripts among others.
phpCodeGenie can interact and generate code from many database servers - MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase, Firebird, Informix, Oracle, MS SQL, Foxpro, Access, Sybase, FrontBase, DB2, SAP DB, SQLite, Netezza, LDAP, and generic ODBC, ODBTP, through the ADODB Database Abstraction Library.
phpCodeGenie uses a plugin mechanism for the different code that it generates. While most the core plugins are plugins for PHP Code Generation, one can write plugins for any language, be it Perl, Java, C#, Visual Basic, ASP etc.. Basically, code generation is String manipulation. So it is very easy to make a new PCG plugin. Feel free to write your own PCG plugins and it would be nice if you could share it back with the PCG community.

Dabo 0.7
Dabo is a three-tier, cross-platform database application development framework, written in Python with the wxPython GUI toolkit more>>
Dabo is a three-tier, cross-platform database application development framework, written in Python with the wxPython GUI toolkit.
Dabos authors, Ed Leafe and Paul McNett, have strong backgrounds in database application development using the awesome and underrated Microsoft Visual FoxPro development environment.
While Visual FoxPro shines at developing data-centric applications, it has one limitation that cannot be ignored: it only runs on Microsoft Windows, and Ed and Paul both have clients that want their applications to run on Linux and Macintosh. We are sure we are not alone in this regard: it is a multi-platform world with more diverse needs than one vendor can fulfill.
Ed and Paul got to talking one day: Paul had been researching various multiplatform GUI toolkits for about 18 months, and Ed has lots of experience developing the Visual FoxPro Codebook framework. We decided to work together to make a framework for developing robust data-centric applications for multi-platform deployment. Weve come up with a design that is simple, flexible, and robust, and weve begun developing our own client applications using the Dabo framework.
Dabo is not complete, but is very capable now for many needs.
Currently, Dabo only supports MySQL and Firebird backends (with PostgreSQL almost done), but in the near future it will support all databases that have drivers that conform to the Python dbapi. These databases include:
- MySQL (already supported)
- PostgreSQL(already supported)
- Firebird (already supported)
- Oracle
- DB2
- MS-SQL and MSDE
- Sybase
- PySQLite
- Berkeley DB

ADODB 4.95a
ADOdb is a PHP database abstraction layer. more>>
ADOdb is a database abstraction library for PHP.
The PHP version currently supports an amazing number of databases, thanks to the wonderful ADOdb community: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase, Firebird, Informix, Oracle, MS SQL, Foxpro, Access, ADO, Sybase, FrontBase, DB2, SAP DB, SQLite, Netezza, LDAP, and generic ODBC, ODBTP. The Sybase, Informix, FrontBase and PostgreSQL, Netezza, LDAP, ODBTP drivers are community contributions.
Many popular web applications such as ACID, PostNuke, Xaraya, phpWiki, Mambo, PHP GACL, TikiWiki, eGroupWare and phpLens App Server are using ADOdb as their database abstraction layer.
Main features:
- Designed for speed. It is probably the fastest open source database abstraction library available for PHP. See benchmarks.
- Provides extensive portability support such as date and type-handling and portable schema creation. See portable sql tips
- Support many enterprise features such as database backed sessions (with session expiry notification), SQL code generation, pivot tables, SELECT LIMIT emulation for all databases, performance monitoring.
- Easy to learn, especially if you have Windows programming experience, as it uses many ADO conventions.
- Extensive QA, every release is unit-tested on Access, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle 9.
- Mature, continiously developed since August 2000. Has a large community of users.
- Very reasonable licensing terms (BSD). This means that you can incorporate (and even compile) it into your software applications royalty-free without asking the authors permission, provided you include license.txt in your release. Also dual-licensed (Lesser GPL).

XBase 0.241
XBase is a Perl module for reading and writing the dbf files. more>>
XBase is a Perl module for reading and writing the dbf files.
SYNOPSIS
use XBase;
my $table = new XBase "dbase.dbf" or die XBase->errstr;
for (0 .. $table->last_record) {
my ($deleted, $id, $msg)
= $table->get_record($_, "ID", "MSG");
print "$id:t$msgn" unless $deleted;
}
This module can read and write XBase database files, known as dbf in dBase and FoxPro world. It also reads memo fields from the dbt and fpt files, if needed. An alpha code of reading index support for ndx, ntx, mdx, idx and cdx is available for testing -- see the DBD::Index(3) man page. Module XBase provides simple native interface to XBase files. For DBI compliant database access, see the DBD::XBase and DBI modules and their man pages.
The following methods are supported by XBase module:
General methods
new
Creates the XBase object, loads the info about the table form the dbf file. The first parameter should be the name of existing dbf file (table, in fact) to read. A suffix .dbf will be appended if needed. This method creates and initializes new object, will also check for memo file, if needed.
The parameters can also be specified in the form of hash: value of name is then the name of the table, other flags supported are:
memofile specifies non standard name for the associated memo file. By default its the name of the dbf file, with extension dbt or fpt.
ignorememo ignore memo file at all. This is usefull if youve lost the dbt file and you do not need it. Default is false.
memosep separator of memo records in the dBase III dbt files. The standard says it should be "x1ax1a". There are however implamentations that only put in one "x1a". XBase.pm tries to guess which is valid for your dbt but if it fails, you can tell it yourself.
nolongchars prevents XBase to treat the decimal value of character fields as high byte of the length -- there are some broken products around producing character fields with decimal values set.
my $table = new XBase "table.dbf" or die XBase->errstr;
my $table = new XBase "name" => "table.dbf",
"ignorememo" => 1;
recompute_lastrecno forces XBase.pm to disbelieve the information about the number of records in the header of the dbf file and recompute the number of records. Use this only if you know that some other software of yours produces incorrect headers.
close
Closes the object/file, no arguments.
create
Creates new database file on disk and initializes it with 0 records. A dbt (memo) file will be also created if the table contains some memo fields. Parameters to create are passed as hash.
You can call this method as method of another XBase object and then you only need to pass name value of the hash; the structure (fields) of the new file will be the same as of the original object.
If you call create using class name (XBase), you have to (besides name) also specify another four values, each being a reference to list: field_names, field_types, field_lengths and field_decimals. The field types are specified by one letter strings (C, N, L, D, ...). If you set some value as undefined, create will make it into some reasonable default.
my $newtable = $table->create("name" => "copy.dbf");
my $newtable = XBase->create("name" => "copy.dbf",
"field_names" => [ "ID", "MSG" ],
"field_types" => [ "N", "C" ],
"field_lengths" => [ 6, 40 ],
"field_decimals" => [ 0, undef ]);
Other attributes are memofile for non standard memo file location, codepage to set the codepage flag in the dbf header (it does not affect how XBase.pm reads or writes the data though, just to make FoxPro happy), and version to force different version of the dbt (dbt) file. The default is the version of the object from which you create the new one, or 3 if you call this as class method (XBase->create).
The new file mustnt exist yet -- XBase will not allow you to overwrite existing table. Use drop (or unlink) to delete it first.
drop
This method closes the table and deletes it on disk (including associated memo file, if there is any).
last_record
Returns number of the last record in the file. The lines deleted but present in the file are included in this number.
last_field
Returns number of the last field in the file, number of fields minus 1.
field_names, field_types, field_lengths, field_decimals
Return list of field names and so on for the dbf file.
field_type, field_length, field_decimal
For a field name, returns the appropriate value. Returns undef if the field doesnt exist in the table.
<<lessSYNOPSIS

recompute_lastrecno forces XBase.pm to disbelieve the information about the number of records in the header of the dbf file and recompute the number of records.
If you set some value as undefined, create will make it into some reasonable default.
my $newtable = $table->create("name" => "copy.dbf");
my $newtable = XBase->create("name" => "copy.dbf",
"field_names" => [ "ID", "MSG" ],
"field_types" => [ "N", "C" ],
"field_lengths" => [ 6, 40 ],
"field_decimals" => [ 0, undef ]);
