fbnews is a RSS/RDF news fetcher for fluxbox. The content of RSS is filled in a submenu of fluxbox. You can then read the news items with your favorite browser.

Newsx is an NNTP client for Unix. It connects to remote NNTP servers and receives incoming and outgoing articles
Newsx is also well suited for large spools with normal feeds, being used for pulling newsgroups from specific NNTP servers that are not distributed in the usual manner. Since newsx obeys the normal news spool configuration file and requires little or no specific configuration, the administrative burden should be minimized.

Pulling news
News transfer via fetching to local news spools is sometimes claimed to be an inefficient way of transferring news compared to connecting newsreaders directly to the remote NNTP server.
The fact of the matter is that if set up and used correctly, exactly the opposite is the case.
A local news spool allows news transfer to occur at off-peak hours, thereby decreasing the host server load in the critical period. This will tie up less modems at peak hours, as well as decreasing the connect time since the actual transfer will run much quicker.
A fetch based system is also easier to administrate then the feeding kind, since every site decides for itself what groups it will exchange with whom. The major down-side is that article propagation times will be longer. For sites that are leafs in the news distribution tree, this is usually not very important.
Much of the problems connected with news pulling is connected to the use of the RFC-977 NEWNEWS command. Most news servers has implemented this command in an inefficient manner, which will put severe loads on the newsserver. Newsx does not use NEWNEWS.

FOX Desktop is a lightweight desktop environment based on the FOX Toolkit.
It includes various tools and programs to make life easier. FOX Desktop includes a desktop and taskbar.

Enhancements:
- The taskbar has been replaced with a more general dockbar which can be docked on all sides of the screen.

Enhancements:

- Modular building support. You can now build separate no-GUI, SQL database and Graphing sublibraries. You can also toggle whether large proportions of FOX and TnFOX are compiled into your library or not, making for a very slimline standalone executables if you so choose.
- Added child process device i/o class QChildProcess. You can now redirect i/o and manage child processes on all supported platforms.
- An automated test suite now can perform full regression testing on all supported platforms. It stores its results inside a SQLite3 database and can output the database in HTML format (as you can see on the TnFOX website).
- TnFOX is now completely portable to any architecture (not just Intel based ones).
- Fixed stack backtracing on exception throw for Windows (which had become broken thanks to Microsoft) and added support for stack backtracing on Linux via glibc.
- Even more performance increases. Tn now runs on Linux slightly faster than Windows!
- Lots of bugs (some major) fixed.
- New platforms now officially supported: Apple Mac OS X (using Apples X11 server), CoLinux and Microsoft Windows Vista. TnFOX is fully & officially supported on all 32 bit and 64 bit platforms.

gtk-FOX project provides helper functions to use FOX toolkit together with GTK.
