foosic for amaroK 0.3
foosic is a script for amaroK Music Diary. more>>
foosic is a script for amaroK Music Diary. foosic project is an automated music database and a playback statistics tracking system. While you listen to your music, the foosic client submits information about which songs you play. Together with the submissions from other users, we can gather a complete database about currently existing albums, artists, compilations, etc..., as well as information about what is popular and what is not.
You can see your own statistics, and, if you allow it, let your friends see what you are listening to and what you like.
You can browse the database on this site and discover new artists or albums that you didnt know about before."
Based on the protocol description I created a ruby script for amaroK so I can update my statistics also from my Linux box.
The script was tested with ruby version 1.8.3 and amaroK 1.3.8. The script depends on Korundum for the config panel.
You can use the amaroK Script manager to install the script.
As Im no expert neither in ruby nor in Qt, if anyone feels corrections should be made to the script, please tell me so or correct the mistake yourself.
I probably wont add new features unless Im *really* bored. Or they are useful *and* easy to implement.
Oh, and Im not related in any way to the original foosic developers.

FlexPlaylist for Noatun 0.4.9
FlexPlaylist is an attempt to create a playlist for Noatun. more>>
FlexPlaylist project can create a playlist for Noatun that suits users used to WinAmp XMMS style playlists.
Many people just dont use Noatun because they dont like the playlists and thus I decided to make my own one.
Main features:
- Choose own Font and Size instead of KDE-defaults
- Optionally can hide menubar, list-header, statusbar and toolbar to save space
- Show icon in first column
- Context-sensitive menu (also known as rightclick popupmenu) for common actions
- Use extended m3u playlistformat as native format instead of slower xml (itll still be able to load xml-playlists)
- Configurable keyboard-shortcuts for most actions
- Use alternating colors in listview (as seen in kmail and other kde-applications)
- Statusbar showing playtime of currently played title, overall playlist time and no. of playlist items
- Optional show some play controls in the statusbar
- Dockmode, user chooses the window to dock to
- "Jump to" dialog that lets you easily find files in huge playlists
- Autoresize columns, time takes as much space as needed, title column takes the rest
- Ignores files that cant be played by Noatun when trying to add them to the list
Enhancements:
- This release uses a more natural order when adding folders recursively (it dives into sub-folders before adding files from the current folder).
- The GUI uses standard icons for player controls in the status bar, and draws player controls in the status bar using drawing functions provided by the current KDE/Qt style.
- There are also some minor packaging changes (header checks and Debian packaging support).

gnokii 0.6.18
gnokii provides tools and a user space driver for use with mobile phones under Linux. more>>
gnokii project provides tools and a user space driver for use with mobile phones under Linux.
The original Nokia 3810/3110/8110 project originated from discussions between Francois Dessart, Hugh Blemings and others. Its goal was to develop a replacement for Nokias Cellular Data Suite (CDS) software which was to run under Linux. The project began in late October 1998. This project actually produced some preliminary code that ran under Linux.
A similar project was started by Staffan Ulfberg to provide software for the Nokia 6110 and similar phone models. Actual software development had not started yet at the time of the merge of the projects. The project was oriented towards most platforms unsupported by the Nokia Cellular Data Suite.
It is worth mentioning that these phones were quite popular but didnt provide AT layer to make data calls (to connect to Internet). Such layer was provided by NDCS (among other stuff present in this software).
Towards the end of February 1999, the two projects combined to form the current gnokii project. Reasons for this was to avoid duplicate coding efforts, and to have only one mailing list for sharing information about the phones.
Things progressed well until the latter part of 2000 where due to other commitments on the part of the then principal authors, Pavel Janik and Hugh Blemings things stagnated somewhat. Happily some long term contributors to the project stepped in to lend a hand and developement is once again proceeding apace.
Enhancements:
- Fixes for incoming call and SMS notifications support.
- A fix for long SMS splitting.
- The extended phonebook has been updated for series40 phones handling.
- Multi-part SMS support has been added for the SMSD MySQL backend.

Nokia::File::NFB 0.01
Nokia::File::NFB is a Perl module to create, read and rrite Nokia nfb/nfc phone backup files. more>>
Nokia::File::NFB is a Perl module to create, read and write Nokia nfb/nfc phone backup files.
SYNOPSIS
use Nokia::File::NFB;
my $nfb = new Nokia::File::NFB;
## read in the file phone_backup.nfb.
$nfb->read(phone_backup.nfb);
## print out the phone model the backup file is of.
print "Phone model is ", $nfb->phone(), "n";
## change the phone model to PerlPhone.
$nfb->phone("PerlPhone");
## write out the file as new_phone_backup.nfb.
$nfb->write(new_phone_backup.nfb);
This is used to parse existing or create new files in Nokia NFB or NFC format. NFB is the format used by the Nokia PC Suite Backup and Restore software.
The most interesting part is probably the elements() method. This is used to return each internal file backed up in the NFB file as a Nokia::File::NFB::Element object. These are useful things such as photos, contacts and calendar files.
I dont actually know what the letters NFB or NFC actually stand for, but they are the suffixes used on the backup and copy file created by the Backup and Restore program.

Powerbox for Gtk 1.15
Powerbox for Gtk is a patch to Gtk which replaces its GtkFileChooserDialog. more>>
Powerbox for Gtk is a patch to Gtk which replaces its GtkFileChooserDialog
Powerbox is a normal file chooser dialog box, except that it dynamically grants the application the right to access the file that the user picks.
This helps provide security because the application can be run without needing access to all the users files. Powerbox-for-Gtk patches Gtk to replace GtkFileChooserDialog with a powerbox.
It is based on Plash, which provides a restricted execution environment on Linux.
Enhancements:
- Add gtk-powerbox.c: an LD_PRELOADed patch to Gtk to replace the GtkFileChooserDialog interface so that it calls Plashs powerbox.
- Rename "plash" executable to "pola-shell".
- fs-operations.c: Add log method. Add an "end" log message when the fs_op object is dropped.
- gettextization
- make.sh: Add "-Wl,-z,relro" when linking ld.so. Fixes obscure problem when dlopen()ing libraries that might require an executable stack.
- Intercept getsockname() so that it returns the correct pathname for Unix domain sockets. Extended the g_fds array in libc so that it can contain these pathnames. It is now an array of "struct libc_fd"s, rather than an array of "cap_t"s. libc-fds.h: New file. libc-misc.c: Introduced fds_resize(), fds_slot_clear(). Changed open(), close(), dup2(), etc. libc-connect.c: Add getsockname() and change connect() and bind().
- Reason: I discovered that gconfd2 (or possibly Orbit) was relying on getsockname() returning the pathname that it earlier passed to bind(). This meant that Gnumeric was unable to spawn a gconf process itself, and it produced loads of errors.
- fs-operations.c, libc-misc.c: Fixed fstat() to return the correct information on directory FDs. Added the fsop_dir_fstat method to implement this.
- build-fs-dynamic.c: Implement link() and rename() methods. This is needed for when GNOME and KDE apps hard link files inside $HOME.
- filesysobj-real.c: Changes to allow rename and hard link calls of the form rename("dir/foo1", "dir/foo2") to work.
- The problem: The real_dir_rename and real_dir_link methods only work in the same-directory case; their test was a pointer comparison on real_dir objects. However, resolving a directory pathname like "dir" always returns a new real_dir object. This meant that the rename() call wouldnt work when you use full pathnames.
- This was causing some failures. eg. Konqueror wouldnt start: some code relied on creating "$HOME/.ICEauthority-l" as a hard link to "$HOME/.ICEauthority-c".
- The partial solution: Change the same-directory check to compare inode and device number of directory, after trying a pointer comparison.
