flow 0.5.3

flow 0.5.3

particle animation software with with RenderMan output and shader support. more>> flow allows one to interactively construct sophisticated particle systems and render the results either in real-time via OpenGL or off-line by a RenderMan compliant renderer. f l o w can also render a particle system to code. Using a project template, f l o w fills in the required code to automatically produce demos or screensavers.
flow is not intended to be a typical modeling/animation package. Although it does have limited polygonal object import capability, its main purpose is to fiddle around with particle systems and shaders.
flow will be perpetually under development, so some functionality may be incomplete and there are many features that have not yet been implemented. However, it is reasonably stable and quite usable in its current form. I started flow somewhere around October 98, and worked on it solid for about a year. Development has been slower recently, but there are still a lot of things I want to add.
flow runs on Linux and IRIX. It should port easily to other UNIXes supported by Qt and BMRT.
features:
* real-time animation - OpenGL previews of the particle systems. Particles can be drawn as points, lines, or textured quads.
* off-line rendering - outputs RIB and calls an external RenderMan compliant renderer to handle the scene. Particles can be rendered as spheres, capped tubes, or camera-facing disks.
* scene building - simple scenes can be constructed with polygons, quadrics, planes and boxes. All surfaces can use surface and displacement shaders to add visual richness.
* shader editor - integrated shader tweaker allows full access to all surface and displacement shader parameters.
* code generation - render a particle animation to code. crank out cool screensavers with ease.
* multiple orthographic views - lights, particle actions, and geometry can be manipulated in orthographic viewports.
* interactive camera recording - intuitive mouse driven camera controls can be recorded during particle simulations

XOTcl 1.5.3

XOTcl 1.5.3

XOTcl is an Object-oriented scripting language. more>>
XOTcl (XOTcl, pronounced exotickle) is an object-oriented scripting language based on MITs OTcl. XOTcl is intended as a value added replacement for OTcl.
XOTcl is an open source project which was initiated by Gustaf Neumann and Uwe Zdun, its main developers. The following people have contributed to XOTcl: Neophytos Demetriou, Fredj Dridi, Laurent Duperval, Teemu Hukkanen, MichaelL@frogware.com, Kristoffer Lawson, David LeBlanc, Catherine Letondal, Antti Salonen, Daniel Steffen, and Zoran Vasiljevic.
Scripting languages, like Tcl, are designed for glueing components together, provide features like dynamic extensibility and dynamic typing with automatic conversion, that make them well suited for rapid application development.
The basic object system of XOTcl is adopted from OTcl. The object system enables us to define objects, classes, and meta-classes. Classes are special objects with the purpose of managing other objects. ``Managing means that a class controls the creation and destruction of its instances and that it contains a repository of methods accessible for the instances.
Every object may be enhanced with object-specific methods. XOTcl supports single and multiple inheritance. All relationships in XOTcl, including class and superclass relationships, are completely dynamic and can be introspected. Through method chaining without explicit naming of the intended method, ambiguities in name resolution of methods are avoided. This way a shadowed method can be ``mixed into the execution of the current method.
XOTcl combines the ideas of scripting and object-orientation in a way that preserves the benefits of both of them. It is equipped with several new language functionalities that help building and managing complex systems. We added the following support:
Main features:
- Dynamic Object Aggregations, to provide dynamic aggregations through nested namespaces (objects).
- Nested Classes, to reduce the interference of independently developed program structures.
- Assertions, to reduce the interface and the reliability problems caused by dynamic typing and, therefore, to ease the combination of many components.
- Meta-data, to enhance self-documentation of objects and classes.
- Per-object mixins, as a means to improve flexibility of mixin methods by giving an object access to several different supplemental classes, which may be changed dynamically.
- Per-class mixins, as a means to improve flexibility of mixin methods to a class, all instances of the class have access to the mixed in methods like for multiple inheritance, but without the need of intersection classes.
- Filters (per class and per object) as a means of abstractions over method invocations to implement large program structures, like design patterns.
- Conditional Filters and Mixins can be used to perform context aware composition depending on guards (conditions which decide whether the interceptor should be used). All kinds of filters or mixins can be used conditionally.
- Dynamic Component Loading XOTcl integrates the Tcl package loading with architectrual support for integration with object-oriented constructs. Moreover, it provides tracking/tracing of component loading.

VoR 0.5.3

VoR 0.5.3

VoR is an exciting Free Software video game, licensed under the GNU GPL. more>>
VoR is an exciting Free Software video game, licensed under the GNU GPL. It is developed on GNU Linux but we occasionally release a Windoze binary.

Variations on Rockdodger (VoR) is a fork of Paul Holts little gem Rock Dodger, which has now accumulated enough differences to be worth releasing on its own. The premise is simple: dodge the rocks until you die.

No shields, no weapons, no bonus lives, just pure rockdodgin fun for your spare moments. VoR has ray-traced rocks, a free-scrolling screen, and "real" physics for your ship. Warning: this game is, if anything, harder than the original. It is intended to be a quickie game to kill a few spare moments here and there, not an epic space adventure.

Please contact Jason Woofenden if you could make a Mac binary.

JTOpen 5.3

JTOpen 5.3

JTOpen is the open source version of the IBM Toolbox for Java Licensed Program Product (LPP). more>>
JTOpen is the open source version of the IBM Toolbox for Java Licensed Program Product (LPP). Aside from simply being "open source", it is our fast-path mechanism to get fixes and enhancements to customers without waiting for possible PTFs or release boundaries.
Thus, the JTOpen offering is always at the most current level of fixes and function, and generally leads by six months the fixes available via the Toolbox for Java LPP. Support for the current, unmodified version of the IBM-supplied JTOpen is identical to the IBM Toolbox for Java LPP.
If a software defect is found, the fix will be provided in the next available public build. The level of support (voice/email/fax) is dependent on the type of service contract. Although the terms and conditions require the statement of "as is" support for JTOpen, the JTOpen code is maintained by the same development team and with the same level of quality as the Toolbox LPP.
Code fixes for JTOpen will continue to be supplied via the web site. The JTOpen support is also possible via the web forum and web site. JTOpen project code is available in both compiled and source code versions for customer downloads. This agreement is applicable worldwide and has been agreed upon by the iSeries Service Support team.
Here are just a few of the many i5/OS and OS/400 resources you can access using JTOpen:
- Database -- JDBC (SQL) and record-level access (DDM)
