SliceTime 0.9e
Slicetime is a program that helps you track time you spend on projects. more>>
Slicetime is a program that helps you track time you spend on projects. Slicetime is designed to make it easy to switch between different projects, the main window is in the shape of vertical sidebar that makes it convenient to keep it always visible on the side of the screen. In short, continuous tracking of time taken on projects is made as effortless as possible.
The purpose of the program is to make you aware of which tasks take more time, and which take less; it can also be used to keep track and charge time if youre working for someone on hourly basis. The advantage of the program is that it lets you switch back and forth very easily, letting you keep a very accurate account of how much a task took even if you have to stop it frequently and work on something else.
The results can be very surprising, something may feel like it took only a few minutes whereas it took almost an hour in real time; the reverse is sometimes true although not as often.
Slicetime main window is a vertical bar with a row of buttons, each button representing a project. When the button is pressed in, the project is active, the rest of projects are inactive. Each project button shows the time taken on the project today. At 12 oclock the daily time is reset and new days count is started.
Time is kept for current day, week, month and total. Example: I may have a slicetime project that has 3:59 time today, 8:00 this week (including today), 17:00 this month (including this week) and 125:00 total time, which may have been accumulated over years.
Slicetime makes it easy to change project time for current day if you forgot to check in or check out. Menu command (add or subtract project time) will add or subtract the time for today. Another command will set all times for total, month, week and day.
Slicetime as of now has two report options, it can report by time taken for each project on a daily, weekly, montly and total basis and the same by percentage. For example, it will show that today project A was 60%, project B - 30% and C - 10%, and will do the same for current week, month and total.
Note that Slicetime does not keep separate time accounting from previous week, month, day, etc. It will not tell you that you spend 5 hours last saturday. It will only tell you total time, time taken on current month, week and day; but it makes perfect sense to keep this data as well, and I will almost certainly add it.
Functionality:
- Add project
- Remove project (deletes all data and button, irrecoverable, use sparingly!)
- Report by time
- Report by percentage
- Set project time
- Add or subtract project time
Version restrictions:
- Number of project buttons is effectively limited by vertical size of screen. On a common 1024 res, you can fit in around 42 projects, which should be enough for anyone, but I will add an option of hiding projects from main window if requested.
- Latest version not tested in Unix, but will most likely work. I will test it soon & fix if needed.
- Could keep time for each past day, week, month, year. Most likely will be added eventually.
Enhancements:
- Several bugs were fixed.
- The interface was changed to be more user friendly.
- Autosave functionality was added to make up for some stability problems on WinXP.

The calendar can be added to your page any way you want (e.g. as a pop-up window or an expandable
), and you can integrate it with any type of form fields for selecting dates.
In order to perform the integration, you do, however, need experience with ECMAScript - so if new Date() means nothing to you, Fast Date Picker probably isnt what youre looking for.
Main features:
- Allows you to set whether Sunday or Monday is the first day of the week.
- Can highligt certain days of the week (of your choice), e.g. Saturday and Sunday.
- Can highlight the current date.
- Can make dates up until a certain point (e.g. today) non-selectable so that users cannot select a date in the past.
- Easy to translate.
- Easy to change to fit the design of your website: Just edit the included style sheet.
- Made in a way that minimizes the risk of variable name clashes in ECMAScript and selector clashes in CSS.
- Uses standard ECMAScript, DOM, and CSS.
Enhancements:
- The problem with incorrect dates in calendars set to start weeks with Monday was fixed.

The Data Mine 1.0
The Data Mine is a search engine designed to give users an unusually powerful interface. more>>
The Data Mine is a search engine designed to give users an unusually powerful interface. It is designed around human-computer intelligent interaction (making the computer a tool so humans can use their intelligence).
The project divides the screen into two halves: one lets you find all the instances of your querys keywords, and the other lets you look through a highlighted version of the results you choose.
Installation:
Basics
To install, run "./install" and answer the questions provided. This will run a Unix-flavor install-style script and should create a working, out-of-the-box installation when supplied appropriate values.
See USAGE below if are curions about how to use the Data Mine.
Setup and Customization
The Configure link at the bottom of the Data Mine search page provides a menu you can use to customize the data mine.
The main engine is intended for anyone to be able to use; the setup pages are written for techies. If you arent sure what a regular expression is, for instance, ask someone whos more technical.
Security
The present release of the Data Mine has not been closely scrutinized for security, and should be treated as such by security-conscious administrators. If you discover a vulnerability, please contact the author.
You are strongly encouraged to change the password in /usr/share/datamine/password.
The default installation sets /usr/share/datamine and contents to a relatively permissive mode. Administrators are encouraged to set directory and contents to mode 700, owned by the effective user ID that CGI scripts will be running under. This is usually apache or nobody.
Usage:
The Data Mine is designed to be run as a straightforward web application, with much administrative activity performed on-web.
Once it is set up via the Configure link, just explore.
http://[your hostname]/cgi-bin/datamine
(That is the location provided by RPM installation and the default for the provided installer. The provided installer allows you to specify another location; if you specified another location, substitute that for "/cgi-bin/furball".)

FFTW 3.1.2
FFTW is a fast C FFT library. more>>
FFTW is a fast C FFT library.
FFTW is a C subroutine library for computing the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) in one or more dimensions, of arbitrary input size, and of both real and complex data (as well as of even/odd data, i.e. the discrete cosine/sine transforms or DCT/DST). We believe that FFTW, which is free software, should become the FFT library of choice for most applications.
Our benchmarks, performed on on a variety of platforms, show that FFTWs performance is typically superior to that of other publicly available FFT software, and is even competitive with vendor-tuned codes. In contrast to vendor-tuned codes, however, FFTWs performance is portable: the same program will perform well on most architectures without modification.
Hence the name, "FFTW," which stands for the somewhat whimsical title of "Fastest Fourier Transform in the West."
The FFTW package was developed at MIT by Matteo Frigo and Steven G. Johnson. Server co-location is thanks to the Joannopoulos Ab-Initio Physics group.
Main features:
- Speed. (Supports SSE/SSE2/3dNow!/Altivec, new in version 3.0.)
- Both one-dimensional and multi-dimensional transforms.
- Arbitrary-size transforms. (Sizes with small prime factors are best, but FFTW uses O(N log N) algorithms even for prime sizes.)
- Fast transforms of purely real input or output data.
- Transforms of real even/odd data: the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and the discrete sine transform (DST), types I-IV. (New in version 3.0.)
- Efficient handling of multiple, strided transforms. (This lets you do things like transform multiple arrays at once, transform one dimension of a multi-dimensional array, or transform one field of a multi-component array.)
- Parallel transforms: parallelized code for platforms with Cilk or for SMP machines with some flavor of threads (e.g. POSIX). An MPI version for distributed-memory transforms is also available, currently only as part of FFTW 2.1.5.
- Portable to any platform with a C compiler. Documentation in HTML and other formats.
- Both C and Fortran interfaces.
- Free software, released under the GNU General Public License (GPL, see FFTW license). (Non-free licenses may also be purchased from MIT, for users who do not want their programs protected by the GPL. Contact us for details.) (Also see the FAQ.)
Enhancements:
- This release fixes the --enable-portable-binary option in the configure script.
- It fixes thread compilation on AIX.
- Configure now detects Core/Duo arch.
- Altivec detection has been fixed.

The idea is to dont "debase" the Default Debian System, for this pourpose has been designed the USS (The Upstream Salmon Struct).
In this way youll have a knoppix like HW autodetection and autoconfiguration flavor without affecting the standard system.
DSS can be used to:
- create your own live distribution

ImSafe (Immune Security For your Enterprise) is a host-based intrusion detection tool. After a learning phase, it is able to detect changes in processes behavior, to detect buffer overflows, etc. It is implemented through a device driver (as a kernel patch) for the Linux kernel, but can also be run on other UNIX systems by using a "sensor" built on strace base.
Main features:
- Anomaly detection by analysing audit trails of system calls
- Fast detection of Buffer Overflow Attacks through our call origin heuristic mecanism
- GTK based graphical user interface
- Created for Linux systems but works on almost every UNIX flavor
- Monitor multiple processes of one single application at a time (its enough for testing purposes)
- React in real-time to an attack by executing the script of your choices

Some Tools for Image Collectors 0.7
Some Tools for Image Collectors is aet of tools for obtaining and managing pictures and detecting doubles. more>>
stic bundles a few Linux tools which are intended to support the task of collecting an unreasonable amount of pictures (preferrably in JPEG format).
similar
a program for detecting duplicate or very similar images. It maintains a
database of characteristic color samples which it compares with submitted
pictures. similar depends on libjpeg and ImageMagick s convert (on a
modern Linux desktop system these components should already be present).
Storage medium may be a usual filesystem or a MySQL database. There
also is a MySQL UDF extension to compare image samples within SQL queries.
similar contains the communications module described at sagent.
simv
a core program to perform file management tasks on an image collection.
Its main purpose is to coordinate file movements with the content of
similars database. This applies to importing new files which get tested
against the existent collection, as well as to inform similar about moving
and deleting files within the collection.
simv depends on an external image viewer like ImageMagick s display
(should already be present on a modern Linux desktop system) or John
Bradleys xv (quite a fast one).
simv contains the communications module described at sagent.
sagent
a standalone version of the communications module used in simv and
similar. This software receives input from its start terminal and multiple
clients, distributes several types of output back to them, and is also
able to act itself as such a client.
Since communications mainly use TCP/IP there is an encryption layer
(Blowfish with 128 bit keys) which provides user authentication. Any
single activity of such a user may be particularly permitted or denied.
Secure connections should be possible that way as long as one can defend
the keyfiles and programs on client and server host against foreign
access.
Front-end connection software is available in C, Tcl/Tk and PHP3 to build
custom clients. In the most primitive case even telnet can act as a
client.
The standalone program sagent may be used as communications node in a tree
of clients. Another purpose is to be a shell frontend which sends commands
to a server and receives its replies.
snntpbatch
a command line based NNTP (newsgroups) client. It is mainly intended for
automatic download of images by use of a filter language. Nevertheless it
also downloads the message texts and converts them to HTML code which
includes the downloaded images. Also, it is capable of automatically
posting sets of images to the newsgroups.
The tools are designed to be very independent of the system flavor. On an
average Linux desktop there should be no need to update existing system
components. Actually one could use stic without having display equipment for
graphics.
Any program activity which is possible in dialog may also be performed in
batch runs. Therefore the tools are quite suitable for users who like to get
boring tasks automated and manual tasks simplified.
All tools code is open source and distributed under BSD license.
Example images Credit: U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (see images/CREDITS)
Enhancements:
- The new encrypted protocol version 0.2 is standard now : SHA-1 seal, 256 bit keys, variable chaining initialization vector.
- The protocol of a connection is chosen by the client and may or may not be accepted by the server.
- See sagent command -security options clientprotocol , serverprotocol.

lpr-bash 0.9a
lpr-bash is a replacement for the lpr command found in lpr(ng), CUPS, and other Unix printing systems. more>>
lpr-bash is a replacement for the "lpr" command found in lpr(ng), CUPS, and other Unix printing systems. lpr-bash is implemented as a shell script.
Originally designed to run on LinuxFromScratch, and later ported to gentoo, it should work with virtually any flavor of Linux or Unix, and maybe even Mac OS X.
The most common Linux Printing Systems consists of a daemon that needs to run in the background, in most cases listening on a port (ipp://, TCP port 631) for data, in the case of CUPS even as a webserver.
The advantage of this overdone functionality is that you can print from another PC in the network using the IPP protocol, while lpr-bash needs to resort to the print server functionality of samba for network printing.
If you only want local printing or have samba already started, lpr-bash is the smaller, less complex Printing System for you.
Enhancements:
- Two nasty bugs were fixed in local printing, ebuild, printcap-convert, and unwanted output to stdout.
- The print group was changed to lp for gentoo conformity. (un)lockprinter commands were added.
- The install script was changed to use portage on gentoo systems.
- A Web page was added to the standard documentation.
- The package now unpacks into a subdirectory.
