FLAC 1.1.4

FLAC 1.1.4

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. more>>
FLAC is Free Lossless Audio Codec. Grossly oversimplified, FLAC is similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality.
This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player (or your car or home stereo, see supported devices) just like you would an MP3 file.
FLAC is freely available and supported on most operating systems, including Windows, "unix" (Linux, *BSD, Solaris, OS X, IRIX), BeOS, OS/2, and Amiga. There are build systems for autotools, MSVC, Watcom C, and Project Builder.
The FLAC project consists of:
the stream format
reference encoders and decoders in library form
flac, a command-line program to encode and decode FLAC files
metaflac, a command-line metadata editor for FLAC files
input plugins for various music players
When we say that FLAC is "Free" it means more than just that it is available at no cost. It means that the specification of the format is fully open to the public to be used for any purpose (the FLAC project reserves the right to set the FLAC specification and certify compliance), and that neither the FLAC format nor any of the implemented encoding/decoding methods are covered by any known patent. It also means that all the source code is available under open-source licenses. It is the first truly open and free lossless audio format.
Main features:
- Lossless: The encoding of audio (PCM) data incurs no loss of information, and the decoded audio is bit-for-bit identical to what went into the encoder. Each frame contains a 16-bit CRC of the frame data for detecting transmission errors. The integrity of the audio data is further insured by storing an MD5 signature of the original unencoded audio data in the file header, which can be compared against later during decoding or testing.
- Fast: FLAC is asymmetric in favor of decode speed. Decoding requires only integer arithmetic, and is much less compute-intensive than for most perceptual codecs. Real-time decode performance is easily achievable on even modest hardware.
- Hardware support: Because of FLACs free reference implementation and low decoding complexity, FLAC is currently the only lossless codec that has any kind of hardware support.
- Streamable: Each FLAC frame contains enough data to decode that frame. FLAC does not even rely on previous or following frames. FLAC uses sync codes and CRCs (similar to MPEG and other formats), which, along with framing, allow decoders to pick up in the middle of a stream with a minimum of delay.
- Seekable: FLAC supports fast sample-accurate seeking. Not only is this useful for playback, it makes FLAC files suitable for use in editing applications.
- Flexible metadata: New metadata blocks can be defined and implemented in future versions of FLAC without breaking older streams or decoders. Currently there are metadata types for tags, cue sheets, and seek tables. Applications can write their own APPLICATION metadata once they register an ID
- Suitable for archiving: FLAC is an open format, and there is no generation loss if you need to convert your data to another format in the future. In addition to the frame CRCs and MD5 signature, flac has a verify option that decodes the encoded stream in parallel with the encoding process and compares the result to the original, aborting with an error if there is a mismatch.
- Convenient CD archiving: FLAC has a "cue sheet" metadata block for storing a CD table of contents and all track and index points. For instance, you can rip a CD to a single file, then import the CDs extracted cue sheet while encoding to yield a single file representation of the entire CD. If your original CD is damaged, the cue sheet can be exported later in order to burn an exact copy.
- Error resistant: Because of FLACs framing, stream errors limit the damage to the frame in which the error occurred, typically a small fraction of a second worth of data. Contrast this with some other lossless codecs, in which a single error destroys the remainder of the stream.
What FLAC is not:
- Lossy. FLAC is intended for lossless compression only, as there are many good lossy formats already, such as Vorbis, MPC, and MP3 (see LAME for an excellent open-source implementation).
- SDMI compliant, et cetera. There is no intention to support any methods of copy protection, which are, for all practical purposes, a complete waste of bits. (Another way to look at it is that since copy protection is futile, it really carries no information, so you might say FLAC already losslessly compresses all possible copy protection information down to zero bits!) Of course, we cant stop what some misguided person does with proprietary metadata blocks, but then again, non-proprietary decoders will skip them anyway.

Pulga 1.1.4

Pulga 1.1.4

Pulga is a program for numerical simulation of dynamical systems. more>>
Pulga is a program for numerical simulation of dynamical systems. Pulga project is designed to provide a way for students and researchers who study dynamical systems to model them on a computer and analyze them numerically without the difficulty of traditional computer programming languages.

As we grow up learning math at school we face the joy of dealing with loads of numbers and their pretty properties but as soon as we start to study the real thing in a university we face our first problem.

Although we love to write complex formulas most of us have not that much fun dealing with computer programming, which has proved to be useful and sometimes even essential for some researchs. And that does not only happens with students as there are some teachers and researchers who have exactly the same fear of facing some code.

The classes could be funier and more dynamic, the students would be able to analyse intricate dynamical systems and researchers would not have to worry to learn the newest trend on computer programming in order to get what they need: whether it is for researching, teaching, simulating or studying, there is a need for an open source tool that should be capable of taking the computer code out of their way.

TimeTrack 1.1.4

TimeTrack 1.1.4

TimeTrack is a program to track time in a modular, project- oriented way. more>>
TimeTrack is a program to track time in a modular, project-oriented way. A single timer has the ability to help you track your time over a whole project through maintaining a list of tripels that consist of starttime,endtime and a description field.
You can arrange your timers over several tabs, just as you like. Saving and loading happens through XML Files. Timetracker also has the ability to import single timers from other files to merge your timerdata with other timerdata.
Main features:
New Timer:
- This button spawns a new Timer on the current tab. Just click it and you can start tracking.
New Tab:
- This buttons spawns a new Tab. Youll be asked for the name of the new tab before it is created.
Rename Tab:
- This button renames the current Tab.
Close all:
- This button closes all tabs and running timers WITHOUT saving.
One of the new functions of 1.1 is the ability to save a running timer which will pe persistent even through reboots and shutdowns through the usage of timestamps. This is a useful feature especially for notebook users with limited energy resources.
Starting with V1.1.1, TimeTrack is featuring a generic report generator, which aids you in your documentation needs by - well - simply building reports out of your tracked time data.

PyCAGE 1.1.4

PyCAGE 1.1.4

PyCAGE fairly generic and complete cellular automata simulation engine. more>>
PyCAGE fairly generic and complete cellular automata simulation engine.
Its written in Python and it supports both 1D and 2D automata, a variety of prepackaged rules, and the concept of "agents" which can move about independently on the map for implementing agent behavior.
It comes with numerous examples of fully-functional CA systems, including Conways Game of Life, Langtons self-reproducing automaton, Langtons "vants," and 1D automata rule explorers.
It also comes with simple displayers (including a curses interface for 2D automata) and a unique implementation of a finite state machine.
Main features:
- time is measured in discrete steps, called time units;
- a network of cells, each of which with a well-defined state at each time unit;
- at each time unit, each cell has a series of other cells which constitutes its neighorhood;
- the state each of cell changes according to a state transition function which depends on the state of that cell and the states of the cells of its neighbors;
- in synchronous automata (the typical usage), all cell transitions take place simultaneously.
Enhancements:
- Minor organizational changes; add stepping stone automaton.

jOggPlayer is an open source platform independant Graphical Ogg Vorbis Player. more>>
jOggPlayer is an open source platform independant Graphical Ogg Vorbis Player. Developed using Java, so if your system has a Java2 VM you can use this app. You can now listen to your Oggs using an app that is NOT bloated. In fact this app/let should be able to run on a web page after you set your java security permissions.
I programmed this because I wanted a Java Graphical Vorbis Ogg player. I did it for myself and thought I would share it with you. My first priority was to get something that worked and looked reasonable. There are still some outstanding issues that I want to fix or work on. Dont expect a WinAMP style playlist, Playlists are harder to be made than the actual player.
Main features:
- plays files from your hard drive or
- plays songs from a URL
- plays streams from jRoar ogg streams (version 1.1 only)
- individual file play or multiple file looping play
- sequential or random play
- in applet volume control that goes to 11!
- visual song progress indicator
- playlist songs have a favourite selection box (version 1.1 only)
- displays ogg file information comments in a mouse-over popup window (song name, artist etc.)
- unlimitted size playlist that can transparently include files and/or URLs
- user selectable directory recursion on file load... just choose a dir from the load file dialog
- can load a file, URL or a whole directory of files on startup
- can save and load your playlist to a file
- can read your m3u playlist for ogg files
- user selectable fonts, colours, and background textures
- needs Java 1.2 or higher
- works behind a proxy/firewall (see the starting documentation)
- PLUS it sounds great!

novi 1.1.4

novi 1.1.4

novi is a tool for finding the latest-version RPMs in a tree. more>>
novi is a tool for finding the latest-version RPMs in a tree. novi project can be used to create Kickstart trees or yum repositories that contain the updated RPMS.
In the case of Kickstart, this means machines come to life with the updates already applied. Using novi for a yum repository trims the size of the repodata files, which reduces client download and processing time.
TO BUILD:
This is vague (for now), please bear with me.
Novi uses the RPM libraries, which means building Novi requires the full suite of RPM developments prereq packages. That includes:
librpm-4.3.so => /usr/lib/librpm-4.3.so (0x00acc000)
librpmdb-4.3.so => /usr/lib/librpmdb-4.3.so (0x00f0b000)
libelf.so.1 => /usr/lib/libelf.so.1 (0x00959000)
librpmio-4.3.so => /usr/lib/librpmio-4.3.so (0x00cdc000)
libbeecrypt.so.6 => /usr/lib/libbeecrypt.so.6 (0x00350000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x0013d000)
librt.so.1 => /lib/tls/librt.so.1 (0x00c0d000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x00ab3000)
libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x00311000)
libbz2.so.1 => /usr/lib/libbz2.so.1 (0x00111000)
libpopt.so.0 => /usr/lib/libpopt.so.0 (0x002f6000)
libselinux.so.1 => /lib/libselinux.so.1 (0x00122000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x0053c000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x00141000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00130000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x0065f000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00e14000)
Note that this is a bit of libtool foolishness -- it cant find its special ".la" libraries for some of these (on my system, libbeecrypt) so it complains. Building without libtool doesnt have these headaches, as the standard linker knows when to leave certain dependencies till runtime...
Enhancements:
- novi now uses an RPMs "epoch" tag to help determine which is the newest release of a given product.
- This oversight caused problems with updated packages that were released with newer epochs but older versions (notably, pilot-link in FC5).

GPGME 1.1.4

GPGME 1.1.4

GPGME (GnuPG Made Easy) is a library designed to make access to GnuPG easier for applications. more>>
GPGME (GnuPG Made Easy) is a library designed to make access to GnuPG easier for applications. The project provides a High-Level Crypto API for encryption, decryption, signing, signature verification and key management.
Currently it uses GnuPG as its backend but the API isnt restricted to this engine; in fact we have already developed a backend for CMS (S/MIME).
Because the direct use of GnuPG from an application can be a complicated programming task, it is suggested that all software should try to use GPGME instead. This way bug fixes or improvements can be done at a central place and every application benefits from this.
Especially authors of MUAs should consider to use GPGME. It is even planned to create a set of standard widgets for common key selection tasks.
Enhancements:
- A vulnerability when using GnuPG in streaming mode, which made it possible to insert additional text before or after a signed message if GnuPG was not used correctly, was fixed.
