Fast Data Transfer 0.8.0

Fast Data Transfer 0.8.0

Fast Data Transfer is an application for efficient data transfers that is capable of reading and writing at disk speed. more>>
Fast Data Transfer is an application for efficient data transfers that is capable of reading and writing at disk speed over wide area networks (with standard TCP).
It can be used to stream a large set of files across the network, so a large dataset composed of thousands of files can be sent or received at full speed, without the network transfer restarting between files.
The project is written in Java, runs an all major platforms, and is easy to use.
Main features:
- Streams a dataset (list of files) continuously, using a managed pool of buffers through one or more TCP sockets.
- Uses independent threads to read and write on each physical device
- Transfers data in parallel on multiple TCP streams, when necessary
- Uses appropriate-sized buffers for disk I/O and for the network
- Restores the files from buffers asynchronously
- Resumes a file transfer session without loss, when needed

jSettings 0.2

jSettings 0.2

jSettings package is meant to provide a Java library for dealing with program settings. more>>
jSettings package is meant to provide a Java library for dealing with program settings. (I use "settings" as just another synonym for preferences, properties, etc but I chose the word settings because of the already existing Preferences and Properties frameworks in Java). It wants to be a powerful tool for the developers of Java programs that want to manipulate structures of settings.
The code (as well as this page) is at an early development and testing stage. On top of that, I am only doing it as a means to teach myself Java (Im an economist by training and by profession) , so even at later stages you can expect the quality of the code to be quite low.
If you feel like any part of the design, code, Javadoc, examples etc is silly please dont hesitate to let me know about it. Also, I would also be happy to include requested features as long as I can understand the need for them and I also know how to do it. So please write to me if you have anything to say about this project!
Main features:
- Handles INI and FSTAB type of files and settings. There is no XML support yet, but I plan to do it if it seems to be requested.
- INI settings are specified by a setting = value pair.
- FSTAB settings are defined by an array of settings, each in a predefined field. I call them like this because the structure is similar to the fstab file in UNIX environments. Logical structure is quite similar to that of XML files.
- Settings can be logically structured into sections.
- There are two degrees of hierarchy available, called hierarchical and non-hierarchical. For example, in a hierarchical organization, the settings in a file called settings.ini, containing the following lines:
[section1]
setting1=value1
[[section1-2]] //Notice the double brackets
setting1-2=value1-2
would be refered to as
settings:section1:setting1
and
settings:section1:section1-2:setting1-2
In a non-hierarchical structure they would be
settings:section1:setting1
and
settings:section1-2:setting1-2 (section1-2 is not a child of section1 anymore).
- Loads settings from external files, either from individual files in ASCII format or from archives containing several settings files.
- Includes support for default values for settings, both for ini and fstab settings.
- The advantage is that the actual ini and fstab files will only contain the deviations from the defaults.
- Includes support for system-wide and user-specific settings, for multi-user environments.
- A program would first load the defaults, then the system-wide settings and then the user-specific ones. Also when modifying the settings, there is a choice between doing it at user and at system level.
- Support for adding/modifying/deleting settings.
- Default support for validating the settings.
- Each ini-type setting and each fstab-type field have a validation rule in the form of a regular expression. When loading the value for that setting/field, it is being checked against the rule and only accepted if it confirms to the rule. Of course, if the user wants it she can have .* as the rule for each setting.
- Support for flushing the changes made to the settings to the external files.
- Extensive logging/debug messages.

Upstream Log Transfer System 0.2.0

Upstream Log Transfer System 0.2.0

Upstream is a collection of tools that allow users to send in system specific log and troubleshooting data to support personnel. more>>
Upstream is a collection of tools that allow users to send in system specific log and troubleshooting data to support personnel. The project can be easily modified to output data to any pastebin or support tracker.

Upstream aims to simplify the support cycle and make it more efficient. One of the main problems that support staff face when helping people via IRC or mailing lists is getting user log files across.

Often this process is time consuming, and many new users may even be unable to find / copy these logs. Upstream does this for them by finding and transmitting the log files relevant to a specific issue.

Usage:

We hope to turn this,

< newuser >hi, something is wrong with my resolution, how can i fix it?
< support_person >newuser, what is your video card, and which driver is xorg using?
< newuser >err... how can i find out?
< support_person > cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log and pastebin it
< newuser >pastebin?
< support_person >http://pastebin.ca
< newuser >how do i copy? it wont copy!

In to this,

< newuser >hi, something is wrong with my resolution, how can i fix it?
< support_person >newuser, please run Canoe (System -> Help -> Canoe) and choose Video support. Give me the url you get once its done.

GNOME Transfer Manager 0.4.12

GNOME Transfer Manager 0.4.12

GNOME Transfer Manager allows the user to retrieve multiple files from the web. more>>
GNOME Transfer Manager allows the user to retrieve multiple files from the web.

These files can be retrieved in multiple parts and each part retrieved on a separate session that the user is connected to the Internet. This is most useful to users with dialup connections. The program performs these tasks using wget as its back-end.

The program supports CORBA. This makes it easy for other programs to use GTransferManager to handle the transfer of files from the Internet.

The program also has an applet which communicates with program using CORBA. The applet can launch the program, request for a new download or accept drops of URLs from netscape, gFTP, gmc and give these URLs to GTM.

Anon Proxy Server 0.99

Anon Proxy Server 0.99

Anon Proxy Server is a fast http, https, socks caching proxy server. more>>
Anon Proxy Server is a fast http, https, socks caching proxy server. Easy web based configuration, optional p2p anonymous mode.
Main features:
- Easy Configuration - Web based, no editing text configuration files.
- Memory - No big databases are kept in memory, no matter how large the cache is, memory usage will only increase when more users access it at the same time.
- Speed - To see how much cpu the proxy uses, run top or task manager. Then open multiple windows and hit reload continously, on my computer I usually run out of bandwidth before it goes near 3-5% cpu usage.
- Shared Cache - Can be used as a general cache for all users of a computer/network instead of one cache per profile.
- Automatic config - Auto generates the .pac file for automatic proxy settings, no more updating in the do not use proxy section of individual users browsers.
- Anonymous P2P proxy - Joining the anonymous proxy network will allow you to use other peoples proxys for browsing and allow them to use yours.
- SOCKS - Supports enough of SOCKS to run ftp, most Instant messengers, irc, limewire, etc.
- User authentication - Supports external user authentication.
Enhancements:
- The program now checks for errors in access configuration.
- Variable timeout values were added.
- Log rotation was fixed.
- Occasional crashes on a bad URL were fixed.
- The auto configuration .pac file was fixed, so it should work even if the proxys URL was not set properly.
- Anon proxy defaults to 3 keys now for more reliability.

The Picture Transfer Protocol library 1.1.0

The Picture Transfer Protocol library 1.1.0

libptp2 is a library used to communicate with PTP devices like still imaging cameras or MP3 players (KODAK mc3). more>>
libptp2 is a library used to communicate with PTP devices like still imaging cameras or MP3 players (KODAK mc3).
You can download files or tweak camera properties using ptpcam program boundled with libptp2.
Supported Cameras
The list of cameras implementing PTP is constantly growing. Most (if not all) USB still cameras designed after 2002 are supporting PTP. Below is the list of vendors implementing PTP in their cameras:
- Kodak
- HP
- Nikon
- Canon
- Panasonic
- Olympus
- Konica
- Minolta
- Fuji
- Ricoh
- Sony
More are comming...
Please note that if your camera is supporting PTP it does not mean that it is capable of performing all PTP operations (like trigerring capture, uploading files or tweaking properties). Sony cameras are good example of poor PTP implementation where the only thing you can do is downloading files. Sony even breaks the USB specification assigning all its cameras the same product/vendor IDs so dont buy Sony if you want to stay out of problems.
Currently most PTP features are supported. Uploading/downloading files, taking pictures and setting camera properties is supported as long as your camera supports it. However there are many Vendor Extensions that are not supported.
For example Canon uses some proprietary extension operations to take pictures (entering capture mode, extending lens and so on), Nikon introduces proprietary PTP properties.
Unfortunately I have access to couple of Kodak cameras only so to help support extension features you may send me a patch or donate/lend the camera.
Enhancements:
- A number of bugs were fixed, including leaving the camera in an unpredictable state when an I/O error occurs.
- The projects own reimplementation of the old libusb interface (IOCTL_USB_BULK) is used instead of the new URB interface, which is 20% to 50% slower and sometime leads to I/O errors.
- File time preservation across download was added.
- Better capture support was added.
- A bug that caused files over 2MB to be corrupted while downloading was fixed.
- The --loop-capture feature was added.
- Configure errors and parralel build with make -j were fixed.

Config::Abstract 0.13

Config::Abstract 0.13

Config::Abstract is a Perl extension for abstracting configuration files. more>>
Config::Abstract is a Perl extension for abstracting configuration files.

SYNOPSIS

use Config::Abstract;
my $ini = new Config::Abstract(testdata.pl);

Config::Abstract is the base class for a number of other classes created to facilitate use and handling of a variety of different configuration file formats. It uses the Data::Dumper file format to serialise it self and can be initialise from a file of that format

EXAMPLES

We assume the content of the file testdata.pl to be:

$settings = {
book => {
chapter1 => {
title => The First Chapter, ever,
file => book/chapter1.txt
},
title => A book of chapters,
chapter2 => {
title => The Next Chapter, after the First Chapter, ever,
file => book/chapter2.txt
},
author => Me, Myself and Irene
}
};

use Config::Abstract;
my $settingsfile = testdata.pl;
my $abstract = new Config::Abstract($settingsfile);

my %book = $abstract->get_entry(book);
my %chap1 = $abstract->get_entry_setting(book,chapter1);
my $chap1title = $chapter1{title};

# Want to see the file?
# If you can live without comments and blank lines ;),
# try this:
print("My abstract file looks like this:n$abstractnCool, huh?n");

# We can also create an ini file from it
# A bit crude, but it does the job
bless($abstract,Config::Abstract::Ini);
print($abstract);
