F-IRC provides a console IRC client.
F-IRC is an IRC client for the console. It supports multiple servers, scrollback, and all the basic features one can expect from an IRC client.
When F-IRC is started, youll see a list of channels and servers on the right.
The box around these is inverted. That means that if you use the left- and the
right cursor, they will work on the channels etc. If you press ^n, the box will
no longer be inverted and you can use the cursor keys for editting what youre typing.
If the channel-box is selected, press key right on a channel to get a list of
people in that channel. Press key left to exit this (and return to the list of
channels) or press key right on a name to get a menu via which you can kick
and ban people as well as get information on them. Press left on a server to
hide all the channels for that server, press right to unhide all channels.
Press cursor right on a channel to enter that channel. If theres a star in
front of channelname, someone wrote something in that channel. Press ^w to
jump directly to the next channel in which someone wrote something.
Enhancements:
- The cursor is finally visible in the edit-line.
- The program now runs on 64-bit platforms as well.

DMDirc project is a new cross platform IRC client written in java

DMDirc was started to address the lack of a good IRC client for Linux, it can however be run on any java capable platform, including OSX and window. While there are plenty of reasonable clients, most are lacking in one respect or another. We hope that DMDirc will fill this gap.

We are accepting feature requests and bug reports to our issue tracker at Google Code.

IRCTree is a project which shows a tree representing the structure of an IRC network in ASCII.

Rhapsody is an IRC client for Unix operating systems intended to be displayed on a text console or terminal. It is small, fast, portable and easy to use, yet it is full featured.
The thing that separates it from the crowd is its intuitive menu driven user interface. Check out the screenshot area for more information.
It is written entirely from scratch in C and uses the ncurses library. It compiles and has been tested on Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, IRIX, Mac OS X, BeOS, Hurd, Syllable and Cygwin.

CGI:IRC is a Perl/CGI program that allows you to use IRC from a Web browser without having to have access to an IRC port.

CGI:IRC does not use Java, but it does need a browser capable of rendering frames. It can be used on a Web page to allow users to chat, or it can be used to access chat from behind a firewall.

IRC-Chess project is a 2-player chess game for IRC which turns a computer into an IRC chess bot.

It consists of a Java chess server, with frontend scripts to convert an IRC client into a chess bot. Players then communicate with the bot using standard IRC commands, and dont require any special software to play.

Frontend scripts are available for IRSSI and X-Chat.

The client is merely responsible for interpreting this data and displaying it. In this way, porting the system to a variety of IRC clients is very simple, since
the client script will be short, and effectively contain no code specific to the game being played.

In other words, the Java part is smart. The script is dumb and is just there to make things look pretty.

This idea works. Currently, client scripts have been designed for RSSI and XChat. Since both these programs use Perl for scripting, the scripts are practically identical, with a few client specific modifications.

Porting this script to other IRC clients shouldnt be too much of a hassle, since its just the frontend thats ported, not the chess game itself. Anyone wanting to create frontend scripts for other IRC clients, please feel free to do so.

The PROTOCOL file describes exactly what needs to be done.

WBB IRC Postbot is a hack for the Woltlab Burning Board (WBB) which posts new threads, posts and registrations automatically into IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Furthermore, users can search the board, show the latest threads/posts and look up a user’s last seen date via IRC.

Available commands

!boardsearch < title > – Shows threads and posts whose title contains the searched words.
!boardseen < username > – Shows when the user was seen the last time in board and when he posted the last time.
!latest – Shows the latest threads/posts (amount is configurable).
!topposter – Shows users with the most posts.
!foren (only for configured admins) – Shows the boards whose threads/posts will be posted into IRC (mainly for debugging purposes).
!lastusers (only for configured admins) – Shows the last registrations.
