Geomview 1.9.3

Geomview 1.9.3

Geomview is an interactive 3D viewing program for Unix. more>>
Geomview is an interactive 3D viewing program for Unix. Geomview lets you view and manipulate three-dimensional objects: you use the mouse to rotate, translate, zoom in and out, and so on.

Geomview can be used as a standalone viewer for static objects or as a display engine for other programs which produce dynamically changing geometry. Geomview can display objects described in a variety of file formats. Geomview comes with a wide selection of example objects, and you can create your own objects too.

Geomview runs on most Unix platforms, including GNU/Linux. Geomview can run under Microsoft Windows using Cygwin. Geomview is free software available under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License (GPL).

You can also use Geomview to handle the display of data coming from another program that is running simultaneously. As the other program changes the data, the Geomview image reflects the changes. Programs that generate objects and use Geomview to display them are called external modules. External modules can control almost all aspects of Geomview. The idea here is that many aspects of the display and interaction parts of geometry software are independent of the geometric content and can be collected together in a single piece of software that can be used in a wide variety of situations. The author of the external module can then concentrate on implementing the desired algorithm and leave the display aspects to Geomview. Geomview comes with a collection of sample external modules, and the manual describes how to write your own.

Geomview allows multiple independently controllable objects and cameras. It provides interactive control for motion, appearances (including lighting, shading, and materials), picking on an object, edge or vertex level, snapshots in many image file, PostScript, or Renderman RIB format, and adding or deleting objects is provided through direct mouse manipulation, control panels, and keyboard shortcuts.

Geomview supports the following simple data types: polyhedra with shared vertices (.off), quadrilaterals, rectangular meshes, vectors, and Bezier surface patches of arbitrary degree including rational patches. Object hierarchies can be constructed with lists of objects and instances of object(s) transformed by one or many 4x4 matrices. Arbitrary portions of changing hierarchies may be transmitted by creating named references.

The full specification for object file formats is in the OOGL (Object Oriented Graphics Language) Reference section of the Geomview manual. If you already have Geomview you might want to try out the OOGL tutorial.

Geomview can be used as a Mathematica graphics output device; this makes viewing Mathematica graphics much more interactive. The same is true for Maple. Geomview began as an effort at the Geometry Center at the University of Minnesota to provide interactive geometry software which is particularly appropriate for mathematics research and education. In particular, Geomview can display objects in hyperbolic and spherical space as well as Euclidean space.

Codestriker 1.9.3

Codestriker 1.9.3

Codestriker is a web application that supports collaborative code inspections. more>>
Codestriker project is an open-sourced web application which supports online code reviewing. Traditional document reviews are supported, as well as reviewing diffs generated by an SCM (Source Code Management) system and plain unidiff patches.
There are integration points with CVS, Subversion, Clearcase, Perforce, Visual SourceSafe and Bugzilla. There is a plug-in architecture for supporting other SCMs and issue tracking systems.
Using Codestriker for your reviews minimizes paper work, ensures that issues, comments and decisions are recorded in a database, and provides a comfortable workspace for actually performing code inspections.
An optional highly-configurable metrics subsystem allows you to record code inspection metrics as a part of your process.
Codestriker is written in Perl, and runs on all of the major platforms and browsers, and is licenced under the GPL.
Configuration
This section is concerned with unpacking the Codestriker distribution into a suitable location, and then configuring it. For UNIX distribution, the following commands may be appropriate on your system:
% mkdir /var/www/codestriker
% cd /var/www/codestriker
% tar zxvf /from/installed/location/codestriker-X.Y.Z.tar.gz
% chown -R apache.apache /var/www/codestriker/codestriker-X.Y.Z
Here "apache" is the user which runs the Apache server. It could be "nobody" under different systems. Check with the ps auxww command, or check your Apache configuration files. Under Windows, the Codestriker distribution could be unzipped into a suitable location under c:program files, or just c:codestriker.
The next task is to edit the codestriker.conf configuration file to reflect the settings on your site. The file is documented with examples to assist in setting appropriate values. The file is in Perl syntax, so lines starting with a # indicate a comment.
Enhancements:
- The project list screen now displays, for each project, the total number of open topics and the total number of topics.
- Clicking on the count will go to the topic list screen with the relevant topics displayed.
- The VSS repository handler has been modified so that topics can be created by labels or version numbers in the start and end tag fields.
- The URI filter in the Template Toolkit changed its behaviour in 2.16, which was responsible for generating invalid links.
- This has now been fixed.
- There is better handling of Subversion diffs that were generated on non-English systems.

cosign 1.9.3

cosign 1.9.3

cosign is a Web single sign on system that allows users to authenticate once per session and access any protected Web resources. more>>
cosign is a Web single sign on system that allows users to authenticate once per session and access any protected Web resources at the institution. When you use cosign the passwords are sent only to a single, central URL.
Sessions have both idle and hard timeouts, and users can logout of all protected services by visiting a single URL. The use of public key cryptography ensures that a compromise of a protected Web server has no impact on the security of other participating servers.
cgi
The central cgi is responsible for logging users into and out of the central cosign server. It is also responsible for registering each service a user logs into - this action ties the users central login cookie to their session on individual application servers such as our web mail client, web directory client, or CourseTools environment. The prototype CGI was built to use Kerberos V/GSSAPI to authenticate the user.
daemon
The central daemon is responsible for maintaining the state of all cosign sessions. This includes keeping track of which users have logged in, logged out, and idle timed out. This also means the daemon keeps track of all of the service cookies that represent the authenticated web applications a user has accessed. The daemon has the ability to replicate its cookie database to multiply hosts, so a failure of one server does not constitute a failure of the system. The daemon answers queries of user identity from both the cgi and the filter, and talks to other daemons through a replication protocol. The daemon was written in C and has knowledge of Kerberos V tickets.
filter
The filter resides on an application server, and is not part of the centralized cosign infrastructure. The filter is responsible for determining which areas of a web site are protected by cosign and which are not. If a user attempts to access a protected area, the filter assures the user is authenticated, and obtains their username, authentication realm, IP address, and optionally a Kerberos ticket. This information can then be used by other authorization mechanisms to make further access decisions. The prototype filter was written in C for Apache 1.3.x.
Enhancements:
- daemon: updated return codes
- daemon: fixed bug in retrieve access control
- daemon: fixed bug where HUP with replication turned on would cause the server to die and exit.
- man: reorganized and fixed typos

GView is a simple functional image viewing utility designed to teach newcomers the uses of the GTK / GDK libraries.
GView serves many purposes. The first is as a replacement for the Eye of Gnome application. I dont know why, but EOG as installed on my box stopped working; so I wrote my own. Second is to teach others by example how to use the GTK / GDK libraries. And third is to give me something to do in my spare time.
Each Minor release of the application will include a new lesson, with the initial lesson showing how to create the application window and do something useful with it. As for what will come in consecutive lessons, only time will tell.
Main features:
