Teacher Control Panel allows a teacher to monitor, lock, and operate student computers and broadcast the teachers screen to the students.
Teacher Control Panel can work with a mix of Windows and Linux workstations. The screens are captured using VNC, and the teachers screen is broadcast using multicast.

- Supervise the activity of the students (view student screens)
- Lock student screens
- Broadcast the teacher screen to students (all students or a subset) fullscreen or in a window (this feature uses multicast therefore can scale to many computer very well)
- Control remotely a student computer
- Run a script for every student computers
- Compatible with any Java compatible OS (default configuration is for Linux)

KDELirc Improved (patch) adds some different new features to improve kdelirc usability. Above all i added On Screen Display, using Konversation and Amarok codebase. When some key is pressed on the remote, its shown through OSD on your desktop, and mode changing is advertised too.
I also added an option to allow mode changing with one key only, instead of binding one key for each mode. A new DCOP method now allows to suspend and resume key binding for the remote (dcop irkick IRKick setEnabled true/false).
Enhancements:
- Removed Konversation OSD, using Amarok one instead (improved, with images and translucency support).
- Now showing icon for mode change, for better visual recognition.
- Also showing a little icon for the keypress, so indicating what mode is in use.
- Added an option to select a different font for mode change and key press.
- Added dcop call to show osd text through dcop.

Gtk2::Ex::MPlayerEmbed is a widget to embed the MPlayer media player into GTK+ applications.

Gtk2::Ex::MPlayerEmbed allows you to embed a video player into your applications. It uses the XEMBED system to allow the mplayer program to insert its window into your application.

PROPERTIES
The following properties are accessible through the standard Glib get() and set() methods:

mplayer_path

This is the path to the mplayer program. This is /usr/bin/mplayer by default.
args

This is a string containing the command line arguments passed to mplayer (no default).

loaded

This is a boolean value that indicates whether the mplayer program is currently running.

state

This is an enumeration (described by Gtk2::Ex::MPlayerEmbed::PlayingState) that indicates the state of the player. state may be one of: stopped, playing, paused. It is stopped at startup.

METHODS

$embed->play([$content]);

This method has two behaviours: if the the loaded property is true (a video stream has been loaded), and the state property is paused, then it will resume playing the stream. If loaded is true but the stream is not paused, then the method will carp() and return undef.

If load is false, and the $content argument is defined, then the player will attempt to load and play the stream identified by $content, which may be a path to a file, the URL of a network resource, or a "meta-URI" such as dvd:// or dvb://.

$embed->pause;

This method will pause the current video stream. If the stream is not playing, this method will carp() and return undef.

$embed->resume;

This is just a convenience wrapper around pause(). The pause() method is really a toggle, and two subsequent calls to pause() will pause and then resume the stream, so this method exists to disambiguate.

$embed->stop;

This method tells mplayer to quit, and resets the widgets internal state. Before loading another video stream with play(), use this method first.

$embed->tell_slave($something);

This method sends a command to the mplayer slave process. The available commands are documented in the mplayer-slave-spec.txt file in the source distribution.

Portage is probably Gentoos most notable innovation in software management. With its high flexibility and enormous amount of features it is frequently seen as the best software management tool available for Linux.
Portage is written in Python and Bash and therefore fully visible to the users as both are scripting languages.

To enable or disable certain Portage features you need to edit /etc/make.confs FEATURES variable which contains the various feature keywords, separated by white space. In several cases you will also need to install the additional tool on which the feature relies.

- FEATURES="confcache" integration; global caching to speed up configure calls, requires dev-util/confcache
- elog framework and accompanying modules for logging ebuild warnings, errors and general notices. Collects eerror/ewarn/elog/einfo messages.
- New elog function (should replace einfo in many cases) version syntax enhancements allowing multiple suffixes and a new cvs prefix for denoting "live sources" ebuilds.

- Addition of an register_die_hook method that allows ebuild/eclasses to register functions to be called for better debugging on errors.

- Intelligently handle and display USE_EXPAND-based IUSE variables.

- Include a "changed or new" USE flag output when --verbose isnt specified.
- Support for splitting out debug information into separate files in /usr/lib{,32,64}.
