EveryGUI 0.99.b
EveryGui is an attempt at being a GTK+ Graphical User Interface for everything. more>>
EveryGui is an attempt at being a GTK+ Graphical User Interface for "Everything" (involving command line programs) on UNIX systems. EveryGUIs goal is achieved by providing two powerful applications:
Chameleon, which is a dynamic GUI for virtually any tool or OS command. It loads config files of tools which are chosen from a list, and dynamically creates widgets reperesenting the tools options. Not only does it execute the commands, but it can save a batch of commands into a shell script for later/repeated use.
And Designer, which is a visual environment for creating/editing config files that determine Chameleons different behaviours for each tool/command. Designer feels like a cross between QT Designer and Glade, but requires no coding at all to get the functionality working (thats Chameleons job to do it automagically).
I decided to design EveryGUI because I have found myself writing over half a dozen GUIs for command line programs, when I realised a lot of the code is very similar, so why not make a unified GUI for all purposes? It makes sense to me...
Of course, there are already GUIs for cdrecord, lame, tar, webcpp, etc. which are more specialized for their tasks, but with the small learning curve of EveryGUI compared to the dozens of other GUIs you have to install and learn, EveryGUI proves to be very time efficient. And with its flexibility, you can customize and extend it specifically for your needs.
Whether youre new to Linux and havent mastered all the common everyday commands, or youve been using it for years and you need a robust power tool, EveryGUI can make your life a lot easier.
Imagine being able to use programs like cdrecord, mkisofs, LAME, tar, RPM, Webcpp or commands like upload your project file releases to sourceforge, or mount an .iso image with just a few clicks, all in the same graphical interface. Imagine being able to add more tools to this interface, or bind your favorite commands to the click of a button without writing any code or even having to hand write config files...
..its time to stop dreaming, and start using EveryGUI.

Beep Media Player 0.9.7.1
BMP Is a versatile and handy multi platform media player. more>>
BMP is a multimedia player that currently uses a skinned user interface based on Winamp 2.x skins.
The original project name was "beep". Then we discovered that another project of the same name existed, and extended it to "Beep Media Player" to distinguish the two.
This new name is of course cumbersome to type, so it was informally shortened to BMP (or sometimes BeepMP) for everyday usage. Along the way, somehow or another, some of the developers no longer recognize it as an acronym. There is still no official word on whether to drop the original form. But whatever happens, the name BMP is here to stay.
Milosz Derezynski started hacking on XMMS alone in the fall of 2003 and eventually made it compile against GTK+2. He went on to release it to the public under the name Beep and stirred up considerable interest among XMMS users who were eager to move their favourite application to GTK+2. From that moment on, the way was clear.

SuperKaramba Calculator is a very simple calculator theme, with a lot of hidden power. more>>
The normal desktop calculators seem counter-intuitive to me. Why emulate the limited interface (ie a numeric pad) of a pocket calculator, when youve got the power of a desktop computer and keyboard at your finger tips.
SuperKaramba Calculator is a very simple calculator theme, with a lot of hidden power. It uses the google calculator as its engine, which means that it can do complex calculations from a very simple interface. If the calculation is a simple mathematical expression, the theme will use the bc program, rather than going online. It does unit conversions and currency conversions as well.
You can enter an equation in mathematical notation, or in everyday language. For example:
four plus five
4+5
2000 kilometers per hour in feet per year
The theme stores the last 10 queries, so that you can go back over them.
The theme checks for invalid characters, and parentheses mismatches.
The theme also allows you to use the keyword "ans" in your query, which will substitute the last result into your current query. This could save typing a lot of text if youre chaining queries together.
How to use it ...
This is so simple to use, it doesnt really need a manual. The theme consists of three elements. A text entry box, a text display and a button.
To run a calculation, put your query in the text box. Then left click the button. The theme will go off and do its magic, and come back with an answer that will be displayed as text underneath the text box.
Sometimes what you enter may not be able to be processed, either because youve typed it wrong, or it doesnt understand you, or because youre asking it to do too much. If that is the case, then the theme will tell you.
To access previous queries, middle click on the button, and select the relevant query from the dropdown list.

Olive LiveCD 0.2
Olive is (yet another) GNU/Linux Live distribution. more>>
Olive is (yet another) GNU/Linux Live distribution. Olive LiveCD distirbution offers quite a good deal of new technologies, hardly witnessed ever before, as well as some of the more common pieces of software. Its size is approx. 110MiB, yet it allows a lot of software to be used.
Olives whole point is to display how easy to use Linux may be, yet without losing any of the features required for heavy-duty work. Its also supposed to show various unusual new technologies, not widely known or accepted.
Please note that Olive was, partially, built as graduation work at SPSST Panska. Once presented, a release built specifically for school will be available upon personal request.
Main features:
Media
Olive features MPlayer for playing of your favourite movies. It plays most MPEG, VOB, AVI, OGG/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, FLI, RM, NuppelVideo, Matroska files. You can also watch Theora, MPEG4 (DivX/XviD), Real Media, DVD, VideoCD, SVCD movies. MPlayer also supports various filters for better experience. Mencoder is bundled with MPlayer and it allows you to encode movies into virtually any of the formats mentioned above.
Although you can use MPlayer to play your music, theres also an application that was written just for that: Audacious. Audacious is a fork of Beep Media Player (now discontinued), which is in turn fork of the very famous XMMS. It supports various audio formats, including MPEG layer 1, 2, and 3, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg FLAC, Musepack, WAV files and Windows Media, as well as many sequenced formats including MIDI, and a host of different module formats. In addition, Audacious uses Winamp-like skins (and supports Winamp "classic" skins), to provide a familiar and friendly user interface.
You can of course view photos and pictures using GQview, an intuitive image browser. It can generate thumbnails of your pictures, its capable of reading EXIF metadata, has advanced image search function and much more.
Internet
The Internet is part of everyday life for all of us; was it not for the Internet, you wouldnt be able to read this webpage. Olive features Mozilla Firefox web browser, currently the most common web browser used on Linux. For browsing in console, ELinks is a must-have. There is also Sylpheed e-mail client, small, fast and incredibly useful.
These days, Instant Messaging is a common part of our lives. Therefore, Olive sports GAIM2 (beta2) multi-protocol instant messaging client, which is compatibile with protocols such as ICQ, MSN Messenger,Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber or Gadu-Gadu. There is also a client dedicated solely to Internet Relay Chat (IRC), which is X-Chat. As usually, there are console alternatives, which would be CenterICQ and irssi.
You can use Kismet to look for Wi-Fi hotspots. Basic utilities such as telnet or ssh client and server (Dropbear, used in various embedded systems) are not missing as well.
General work
You can perform some elementary office work in Olive as well. Although its obvious that you wont be doing most of your office work on Olive, its quite reasonable to believe it can come in handy. Therefore, Olive has AbiWord word processor to allow you to read and write documents, in various languages, in various characters, without any problem.
AbiWord can also handle various document formats, which includes Microsoft Word or WordPerfect documents. You can also export your documents into HTML for further processing or publication. You can also read Adobe PDF format using Evince, a Gnome/GTK2 document viewer whose PDF backend is based on the Poppler library, which is based on the well-known XPDF. Utilities that allow you export of PDF documents into eg. HTML are also included.
System control
Considering the differences in approach to configuration in various distributions, it may be often hard to configure several things at yet another distribution, such as the X server or preferences of software alternatives. Therefore, Olive features a trivial control panel, allowing any application to be merged in as a new panel. Although it still misses few more desired panels (most notable for network configuration), it already is quite useful for every day usage.
Eye candy
Good-looking environment always helps users to better orientate on the workplace, as well as consider the time they spend with the system more enjoyable. Transparency can be achieved using XComposite extension and xcompmgr + transset.
Though XGL and AIGLX were considered, the decision was made not to use them for their lack of testing and for the demand for support of as many platforms as possible. Please note that even XComposite may have its own issues with other software, most notably Enlightenment and MPlayer, and for this reason xcompmgr is not run by default.
Lightweight
If you consider the above features way too much for you and strive for something lighter, then you can use the FluxBox window manager. FluxBox was finetuned to look and feel as much as Enlightenment as possible, making the transition simple. There are also lightweight versions of some of the software, as mentioned above, such as irssi, CenterICQ or ELinks.
Enhancements:
- A significant bug was found in v0.1, causing ramdisk for people who have 1GiB of RAM or more broken. Please, upgrade to 0.2.

hermes 1.6
hermes is a generic, transparent, multi-platform anti-spam SMTP proxy. more>>
hermes is an SMTP proxy. We developed hermes for our own use on ITEISA, and we have perfected it with new features to cover our own needs. It is now being made public on the hope that it will help others to stop spam the same way it does for us everyday.
What makes it special is that it can be used to stop spam using a combination of the following techniques:
SMTP banner delay
Most spammers will start sending data as soon as the connection is open, without waiting for the SMTP banner. What we do is delay this banner and if we have data waiting before we print it, we drop the connection.
Throttling
hermes will process incoming SMTP commands at a slow pace. Most spammers have very little patience, so they will stop sending an email if its taking too long to deliver.
Greylisting
Greylisting is a process that will delay incoming mails for some minutes before allowing them to be delivered. As most spammers will not resend their messages, you will not receive them. If you want a more technical description, scroll down to read a greylisting description.
You can configure how this techniques work in the configuration file and you can even disable/enable them at will.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a remotely exploitable bug on versions 1.3 to 1.5.
- Apart from this, no new features have been added or code changed.
- Everyone is encouraged to update as soon as possible.

Deep-Water Linux 0.4.0 Beta01
Deep-Water Linux is a half minimalist software distribution using the linux kernel. more>>
Deep-Water Linux is a half minimalist software distribution using the linux kernel released under the terms of the gnu gpl license v2.
Originaly i designed it for myself to make my work a bit easyer - it was a few years ago when there were not so many live distributions that fit my needs - i needed something more than "minimal" but not something that would need more than 2-3 minutes to load requireing hardware, that i couldnt afford.
So i designed a small system for myself that i could use whenever i broke my "harddisk" distro so much, that it was impossible to repair the system from inside of it. I started using the system as a sort of a rescue system and i installed it on my computer as a sort of a neighbour to other systems that i have used.
Then i thought other people might find it interesting, if not as a whole, than atleast a part of it, or maybe they might like to use it for some "rescue job". I was messing arround with xlib and tcl/tk, so i added some programs to ease a users life - like a panel, icons, file-manager. You see, i thought it is stupid to just copy someones work and then re-distribute it in my name - i hate the kind of distros where the "developers" just change the background of some well known distro and then give it a new name.
In my distro you wont find so many tools, it evean might not work good, it evean can make you angry "make you laugh, or cry", but atleast i can say, that many things in this system is my work - i programmed deep-panel/ deep-view/ deep-icons/ made a new hackedbox"a hack of blackbox"/designed the startup and many other things.
There are 2 version-types of the distro - the first copying the whole system in the memmory and the second copying only a part of itself - the first is for people with older hardware with little memmory and the second for boxes with memmory atleast 128MB. I know that there are many systems out there that are better and im not saying that its good to use this distro on an everyday basis, but if you find some inspiration in it, or if you use it as a rescue system, or want to use deep-view to browse/edit some files or to display image galleries and your "real" system is broke, if you find any use of it than im happy enough.

QtQuran 0.1
Quran project is aimed to be a comprehensive tool to navigate through texts of the Quran. more>>
Quran project is aimed to be a comprehensive tool to navigate through texts of the Quran, play readings of selected verses, as well as other features.
QtQuran project should also cover multiple translations of the Quran.
Arabeyes is a Meta project that is aimed at fully supporting the Arabic language in the Unix/Linux environment. It is designed to be a central location to standardize the Arabization process. Arabeyes relies on voluntary contributions by computer professionals and enthusiasts all over the world.
Unlike other Arabized products, Arabeyes is Open Source, completely FREE and abides by the ideals of the open source communities. Arabeyes aims for all active participants and volunteers to partake in the development process and to speak their mind on this professional effort.
The idea of Arabizing Unix is not a new one. However, most of the attempts were done by Arab computer science students studying outside of the Arab world. Once those individuals graduated, their projects were abandoned. Resulting in very sparse code and in every subsequent attempt in having to re-invent the wheel. Arabeyes aims to eliminate this redundancy and lack of information by not depending on any one person or group - Arabeyes is aimed to succeed irrespective of the interest or availability of the parties involved.
Arabeyes plans to address every aspect of making the use of Arabic on linux/unix common and without headaches/hurdles. Arabeyes goal is not to create new applications (if those applications exist), but to incorporate modifications/additions to existing common everyday-use applications. Arabeyes will initially engage in the following projects,
- Address the various font/keyboard-mapping issues
- Create the ability to write plain-text Arabic easily
- Create the ability to spell-check your Arabic text documents
- Create the ability to send/receive mail through an Arabic interface
- Localize (or translate) Common Graphical-User-Interface (GUI)
- Create the ability to take Arabic text files and create various enriched documents (TeX, word, etc)
The Arabeyes project acknowledges the importance of documentation. It is the only way to ensure that Arabization will proceed forward. Documentation creates a concrete foundation which others can refer to and follow in the future.
Enhancements:
- qtquran requires qt-3.0.5 and libquran (libexpat, libspeex and libogg).

ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::StandardText 0.47
ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::StandardText are methods used within ExtUtils::ModuleMaker. more>>
ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::StandardText are methods used within ExtUtils::ModuleMaker.
The methods described below are quasi-private methods which are called by the publicly available methods of ExtUtils::ModuleMaker and ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::Interactive. They are quasi-private in the sense that they are not intended to be called by the everyday user of ExtUtils::ModuleMaker. Nothing prevents a user from calling these methods, but they are documented here primarily so that users writing plug-ins for ExtUtils::ModuleMakers standard text will know what methods need to be subclassed.
The methods below are called in ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::complete_build() but not in that same packages new(). For methods called in new(), please see ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::Initializers.
The descriptions below are presented in hierarchical order rather than alphabetically. The order is that of how close to the surface can a particular method called?, where surface means being called within ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::complete_build().
So methods called within complete_build() are described before methods which are only called within other quasi-private methods. Some of the methods described are also called within ExtUtils::ModuleMaker::Interactive methods. And some quasi-private methods are called within both public and other quasi-private methods. Within each heading, methods are presented more or less as they are first called within the public or higher-order quasi-private methods.

Yet Another Financial Manager 0.1
Yet Another Financial Manager (YAFM in short) is application to track Your expenses and incomes. more>>
Yet Another Financial Manager (YAFM in short) is application to track Your expenses and incomes. That way You know how much and for what You are spending, and if You are in line with retirement savings. All made in EASY and COMFORTABLE way.
The Difference
There are many programs to help manage Your finances.
So, why You should use YAFM?
First it is designed to be easy to use. It is not aimed to track every penny You spend, this would be annoying.
Second: it should be used as a tool to track spendings as exactly as You need. Don’t be stressed if some expences are not tracked or You have entered their approx value. YAFM is about helping You to know roughly how much and for what You are spending not making You feel bad, that expenses and incomes are not balanced up to penny. If You have enough patience to keep data 100% accurate - You will have very accurate results, good for You, but YAFM will not make troubles about coffee and doughnut this morning, You have forgot to enter.
YAFM BETA is free software, but version 1.0 will be commercial software. If You decide to donate me some money I promise You to get free 1.0 license. You can donate any amount, but if You would ask me how much I would say - 10 USD (1.0 pricing is not fixed but price will be somewhere between 10 and 20 USD).
This application is powered with Ruby on Rails and operated with browser locally. You need to have Ruby interpreter and sqlite installed. This means it can be run in Windows, Unix/Linux or Mac OS X environments.
For Windows (which I expect be to main platform for most users) there are sqlite .dlls provided with program.
Well… I’m using this program for myself from April 2006. I think for many people program like YAFM will be useful, so I decided give a try to release. Of course I’m releasing much more polished version than I use everyday, and also with much features missing. But I will successfully release next versions.

Buffy and Libbuffy 0.11
Buffy displays a window with a summary of your mailboxes and lets you open them in your mail program. more>>
Buffy displays a window with a summary of your mailboxes and lets you open them in your mail program. It is written with the intent of being a handy everyday tool for people working with large volumes of mail.
For mutt users, it can be a nice front-end to supplement the simple built-in folder browser when one has many folders to keep track of.
It tries hard to work out of the box and looks for mail folders in sensible places and comes with reasonable defaults. It supports mail stored in maildir, mbox, and gzipped mbox format.
Enhancements:
- Buffy now correctly detects when a folder in mailbox format has been changed.
- It also allows you to set single folders to always show (useful, for example, for the sent mail folder) and always hide (useful for spam folders which otherwise always show because they always have new mail).
