Cimon is Perl program wich monitors the load (memory and CPU) on Cisco routers using SNMP, and generates graphics with statistics using rrdtool. Its good for information about your routers health.

It monitors and displays the cpu 5 minutes utilization in percents and free+used Processor memory. The I/O memory(usualy 2 MB) or Fast on high end routers is being monitored too, but there isnt graphic for it. Cimon is good source for information about your routers health. From version 0.2 cimon can do ip accounting using the cisco ip accounting feature.
The logfiles that it generates as the rrd files needed for the graphics are fully compatible with those produced by sasacct (SASs accounting statistics). So you can use its cgi interface also its posibility to generate graphics on demand or on a user defined interval (via crontab and -g option).

Postfix SMTP Monitoring Solution

Postfix SMTP Monitoring Solution is a set of three Perl CGI scripts used to monitor the SMTP queue, allowing the deletion of messages that for one reason or another become "stuck" in the queue.

I needed a web-based solution to monitor my Postfix SMTP relay, which enabled me to remove messages that become "stuck" in the queue. I wrote three simple Perl scripts, and used Sudo to give me the desired functionality.

I am uploading these scripts in case they are useful to others. Assuming you have Apache configured correctly on your Postfix server, it should be as easy as placing the three .cgi files into your webservers cgi-bin directory, and making the appropriate modifications to your /etc/sudoers file (see the README contained in the tarball).

FreeBSD ports monitoring 1.0

FreeBSD ports monitoring 1.0

FreeBSD ports monitoring project is a simple solution for monitoring what has changed in installed ports on a FreeBSD machine. more>>
FreeBSD ports monitoring project is a simple solution for monitoring what has changed in installed ports on a FreeBSD machine. It works quite well and shows me what is happening on some machines which are manage not only by me. And leaves some trace after handy portupgrade -a command.

But when many ports are upgraded at once output from this script becomes mess and it is hard to read what was added/removed and upgraded. Well it happens when change relates to two ports, neighbours in alphabetical sequence. Diff output with my modifiers becomes unacceptable. So I rewrote it and yes, it is now in Ruby.

Monitoring API 2.0 Beta 1

Monitoring API 2.0 Beta 1

Monitoring API project is a multi-user programming interface. more>>
Monitoring API project is a multi-user programming interface designed to simplify the development of network monitoring software and allows users to express their monitoring needs in a device-independent way.
The main abstraction provided by MAPI is the network flow. Although flows have been used before in network monitoring systems, MAPI gives flows a first-class status. Applications that uses MAPI can specify what flows or flow statistics they are interested in by applying functions to flows.
A MAPI function can be a BPF filter, string search, packet counter or more advanced like a NetFlow generator. These function will automatically run in hardware if there is support for it on the hardware being used.
MAPI currently supports the following hardware:
- Normal NICs through libpcap
- DAG cards without co-processor
- SCAMPI adapter
Enhancements:
- This release includes support for distributed monitoring, several new MAPI functions, demo applications, and a lot of bugfixes.

Whamb Sharing Protocol Daemon (WSD) is a perl script that allows you to share MP3 or OGG on a Unix/Linux or windows system.WSD needs perl 5.7.3 or later (5.8.0 recommended) and some modules (HTML::Entities, Encode, MP3::Info), you will find any instructions you need in the readme, so please read it ! WSD also needs RendezVous from Apple, its opensource and runs on lots of platform including linux/*BSD/Windows/Solaris and all Posix OSes

Installation is simple but depends by your operating system:
make os=linux on linux
make os=opensd on openbsd
make os=osx on macosx
make os=solaris on solaris

if you are running NetBSD or FreeBSD edit the makefile you will see:
ifeq ($(os),openbsd)
CFLAGS_OS = -DHAVE_SOCKADDR_SA_LEN -DHAVE_DAEMON -DHAVE_SOCKLEN_T -DHAVE_BROKEN_RECVDSTADDR
change it to
ifeq ($(os),bsd)
CFLAGS_OS = -DHAVE_SOCKADDR_SA_LEN -DHAVE_DAEMON -DHAVE_SOCKLEN_T

and use make os=bsd

You can start it with something like: build/mDNSResponderPosix -n "`hostname`" -t _whamb._tcp. -p 7603 -d
You may also want to copy mDNSResponderPosix to your /usr/bin directory

Network UPS Tools 2.2.0

Network UPS Tools 2.2.0

Network UPS Tools is an extremely powerful and versatile client/server based approach to UPS monitoring. more>>
Network UPS Tools is a collection of programs which provide a common interface for monitoring and administering UPS hardware. Network UPS Tools uses a layered approach to connect all of the parts.
Drivers are provided for a wide assortment of equipment. They understand the specific language of each UPS and map it back to a compatibility layer.
This means both an expensive "smart" protocol UPS and a simple "power strip" model can be handled transparently.
This information is cached by the network server upsd, which then answers queries from the clients. upsd contains a number of access control features to limit the abilities of the clients. Only authorized hosts may monitor or control your UPS hardware if you wish.
Since the notion of monitoring over the network is built into the software, you can hang many systems off one large UPS and they will all shut down together.
Clients such as upsmon check on the status of the hardware and do things when necessary. The most important task is shutting down the operating system cleanly before the UPS runs out of power.
Other programs are also provided to log UPS status regularly, monitor status through your web browser, and more.
Enhancements:
- HAL support. IPv6 support.
- Support for many new devices.
- Many driver improvements.
- This release uses automake.

Generic Protocol Framework 1.0 RC1

Generic Protocol Framework 1.0 RC1

Generic Protocol Framework aims to allow users to rapidly prototype different emerging communications protocols. more>>
Generic Protocol Framework aims to allow users to rapidly prototype different emerging communications protocols. Implementations can be easily "dropped in" and tested independant of a finished product. Testing on both the end product, and the protocol itself can be easily accomplished. The tool aims to provide the developer and end user with a robust solution which can track the size of messages, how rapidly they will be generated, and how many of each type can be seen.
Why the GPF:
There are many similar tools available. The problem with many of these tools is that they are 1) closed source, 2) not easily adaptable to a specific implementation (they use custom languages), 3) expensive. The advantages of the GPF are its open source nature, the ease of which it can be adapted, and the cost: free!
Basic Flow:
Modification of the GPF is fairly simple. Tool-opts.h contains the basic options that will be applied to the packet while it is being built. To transmit a packet, the system calls the tx_message() function, and passes the message ID as well as the option block. This is then passed to the custom function: tx_message_custom() in tx.c. From the message id, the system selects an appropriate tx_* function (to be implemented by the user) and passes an unsigned char **, where the buffer will be written, and the option block. In turn, that function will make heavy use of the add_buf_tu*() functions, which will allow the user to add a tubyte8, tuint16, or tuint32 number to the buffer.
In daemonize mode, the basic options are set, and the system then listens for incomming packets. When a packet arrives, the system calls basic_parse() on the packet. This function then calls basic_parse_custom(), found in parse.c. In turn, this can call any appropriate parsing helpers, including the get_tu*() functions, which allow the user to retrieve a tubyte8, tuint16, or tuint32 from the buffer. CAVEAT: if the first two bytes of the buffer are zerod, it will be treated as an END message. However, recovery is available. In the basic_parse_custom() message, you can set the end_signal_caught variable of the option_block to 0. In this case, it will not stop the daemon from running.
Enhancements:
- Currently, TCP support is somewhat experimental.
- Testing for that portion will be ongoing.
- No clear examples are provided.
- The examples/ directory contains the precursors to a MIP example.

Gip Internet Protocol Calculator 1.6.1-1

Gip Internet Protocol Calculator 1.6.1-1

Gip is a GNOME application for making IP address-based calculations. more>>
Gip is an IP address calculator that integrates well with the GNOME desktop environment.

Gip provides system administrators with tools for IP address based calculations. For example, an administrator who needs to find out which IP prefix length equals the IP netmask 255.255.240.0, just types in the mask and gets the prefix length presented. But many more advanced calculations can be made.

Gip can convert an address range into a list of prefix lengths. It can also split subnets using a given IP netmask or IP prefix length. Many more calculations are possible.
