GNU Source-highlight 2.7

GNU Source-highlight 2.7

GNU Source-highlight produces a document with syntax highlighting when given a source file. more>>
GNU Source-highlight produces a document with syntax highlighting when given a source file.

Source-highlight reads source language specifications dynamically, thus it can be easily extended (without recompiling the sources) for handling new languages.

GNU Source-highlight also reads output format specifications dynamically, and thus it can be easily extended (without recompiling the sources) for handling new output formats. The syntax for these specifications is quite easy (take a look at the manual).

Since version 2.2, source-highlight can also generate cross references; in order to do this it relies on GNU Ctags.

These are the output formats already supported:

HTML
XHTML
LATEX
TEXINFO
ANSI color escape sequences (you can use this feature with less)

These are the input languages (or input formats) already supported (in alphabetical order):

C/C++
Bison
Caml
Changelog
Diff
Flex
Fortran
Html
Java

OpenScientist 16.0

OpenScientist 16.0

OpenScientist is an integration of open source products working together to do scientific visualization and data analysis. more>>
OpenScientist is an integration of open source products working together to do scientific visualization and data analysis, in particular for high energy physics (HEP).
The project is definitely NOT one million lines of intricated and unnecessary complicated home made code reinventing everything.
Motivations
Experiments in high energy and nuclear physics need to be at the edge of computing technologies but at the same time have to face a very long life time (LHC experiments are going to be a matter of decades). This involves that the software must be organized in a way that permits to include or discard some technologies in an easy way without having to recode everything at each change of a piece.
For data analysis, the HEP community had used the CERN/PAW tool for years. Whilst this program had been used and is probably still used by hundred of physicists in the world, it is not any more maintained by the lab that created and promoted it : CERN. This lab had not been able to establish long term collaborative software engineering plans in order to have a technical follow up of this program and analysis tools in general. (What is astounding, is that the same people that were behind CERN/PAW come now with another tool (ROOT) which has exactly the same engineering defects).
OpenScientist is first of all an architecture trying to handle the problem differently to avoid upseting huge software phase transitions in the future. The key points of the system are the modularity and the openness. See the Languages, Coarse graining architecture, and The file formats intrinsic pain section for more about the technical choices and design.
Enhancements:
- An HDF5 driver was introduced in BatchLab.
- The build system was replaced with obuild.
- Support for CoinPython was added.
- Initial support was added for both Qt4 and SDL.
- Examples were added.
- Assorted code cleanups and speedups were done.

CodeInvaders Challenge 3.1

CodeInvaders Challenge 3.1

CodeInvaders Challenge project is a Java-based, real-time programming game based on the Eclipse platform. more>>
CodeInvaders Challenge project is a Java-based, real-time programming game based on the Eclipse platform.

CodeInvaders Challenge is a Java™-based, real-time programming game based on the Eclipse platform. It uses the Eclipse platform and a simple API that allows users unfamiliar with Java to easily compete while they learn the language.

CodeInvaders Challenge gives users the opportunity to pit their Java programming skills against other players in a battle of space conquest. Each player writes a Java class that represents and controls a spaceship. Each ship (class) is placed in a simulated battle along with ships from other players.

The game puts up to six spaceships together in a match and places each of them in a random location with the same amount of energy. The spaceship class allows each player to control his ships thrusters and weapons. The ship can move around to collect energy, attack opponents, and bring energy back to its home planet. Points are awarded for different actions, and the player with the most points wins.

When used in a tournament, CodeInvaders Challenge allows direct, real-time competition between teams. Each player can submit his intermediate solutions and test against the submitted ships from other players. This competition allows each player to learn from the strategies of other players and modify his ship appropriately. After the final submission from each player, the final winner can be found by running a tournament consisting of several rounds and eliminations.

SlimPeer project client is a fully PeerCast compatible but small, fast, and easy to use peer. more>>
SlimPeer project client is a fully PeerCast compatible but small, fast, and easy to use peer that can be used for replaying peercast:// streams without the need to perform complex and difficult configurations.

After installation, all PeerCast P2P streams can be replayed immediately.

SlimPeer was forked from the PeerCast sources and is licensed under the GPL. The client (=ui) part of the applications has been modified to be as simple as possible. The core library sources are identically to the original ones but they have been extended by several USE_SLIMPEER switches that disable code that is not necessary for this client (like the configuration via webpage, streaming of own sources and others).

GNU Robots 1.0D

GNU Robots 1.0D

GNU Robots project is a robot construction game. more>>
GNU Robots project is a robot construction game.
GNU Robots is a game/diversion where you construct a program for a little robot, then watch him explore a world.
The world is filled with baddies that can hurt you, objects that you can bump into, and food that you can eat.
The goal of the game is to collect as many prizes as possible before you are killed by a baddie or you run out of energy.
GNU Robots is a game/diversion where you construct a program for a little robot, then watch him explore a world. The world is filled with baddies that can hurt you, objects that you can bump into, and food that you can eat. The goal of the game is to collect as many prizes as possible before are killed by a baddie or you run out of energy. GNU Robots (including source) will be released under the GNU General Public License.
The GNU Robots playing field is filled with food (increases energy), prizes (to increase your score), walls (which you can bump into), and baddies (which can inflict damage.)
To make the program easier to design and implement, I have decided to let the robot program be written in a text file, so that advanced programmers dont have to limit themselves to a visual programming interface. The language will be Scheme, which provides for flexibility in writing your programs. For non-programmers, there will also be a visual programming interface, which will generate Scheme code.
GNU Robots uses GNU Guile as the language back-end (Scheme). This will make the GNU Robots game engine more consistent with other GNU projects, as it will use the same extension language.
Enhancements:
- Added some extra documentation (but not much) and the early beginning of code clean-up.

Serverstats 0.7

Serverstats 0.7

Serverstats is a simple tool for creating graphs using rrdtool more>>
Serverstats is a simple tool for creating graphs using rrdtool. It does not have any features to manage the created rrd-files, so if you change anything you have to delete and recreate the files.
There is also no frontend for managing your graphs and sources. Serverstats is designed to be configured once and then run continuously. It does not depend on a database.
Main features:
- add sources using PHP-classes
- simple configuration
- all rrdtool-commands are escaped
- sources can use a cache if needed (for example to calculate per second values out of absolute values)
- multiple languages supported: en_US, de_DE
- graphs can include any defined sources and/or rrdfile
- clean HTML-source, can be styled using CSS
- support for advanced rrdtool features such as CDEF/VDEFs
- usage of cacti scripts possible (scripts from cacti release are included, hope thats ok for the devs of cacti)
- multiple RRA-definitions supported (you can select one "template" for every source)
- Errorlogger, may use syslog, write into a file or send you an email
Included Sources
- All includes sources are written for a linux-system. You may write some to run on windows, but there is nothing for windows included in the releases. Also I do not know if the sources will run on any other UNIX-system.
- users - number of users logged in
- load - current load of the system (1min, 5min and 15min) and number of (running) processes
- traffic - traffic passing through iptables-chains, needs special configuration
- mysql - save questions (per second) and number of current processes
- external - get data from external scripts (same format as cacti uses)
- memory - statistics of memory and swap
- cpu - statistics of cpu usage (thanks to Andreas Korthaus)
- apache - statistics from localhost/server-status (thanks to Andreas Korthaus)
- disk - monitor your IO-rate (kernel 2.6 only)
