aMule 2.1.3

aMule 2.1.3

aMule is a multi-platform eMule-like ed2k client. more>>
aMule it is a eMule-like client for ed2k network, supporting Linux, *BSD platforms, Solaris, *MacOSX and *Win32 (*soon).
It was forked from xMule project back in september 2003 (not related to it anymore, except little bits of old code), to drive it to a brand new direction and quality. Uses wxWidgets (formely known as wxWindows) for multiplatform support.
Main features:
- Clients use two networks to create one reliable network (ED2K, Source Exchange).
- aMules Queue and Credit system helps to ensure that everyone will get the file he wants by promoting those that upload back to the network.
- aMule uses the new server protocol like zlib.
- SecureIdent.
- IPFilter reload and "use / dont use" functions (no need to close aMule anymore).
- Localisation: aMule is availabe in more than one language.
- Download Queue: progressbar only - percentage only - both.
- Systray integration.
- Online Signature.
- Leecher ban: Some people use unsocial clients, these clients are banned by aMule.
- aMule is completely free (just like eMule). aMule does not contain Adware or Spyware.
- Each file is checked for corruptions while downloading to ensure an error free file.
- Intelligent Corruption Handler (ICH) helps to speed up the correction of corrupted parts.
- Auto priorities and source management allow you to start many downloads without having to monitor them.
- The Preview function allows you to look at your videos and archives before they are completed.
- For video previewing, MPlayer or Xine is recommanded but Video Lan Client should work too.
- You can create categories to organize your downloads.
- To find the files you want, aMule offers a lot of search possibilities, which are:
- Servers (local and global) and of course direct integration in your favourite browser for easy klick-and-download (with ed2k:// links).
- Messaging and Friend system: you can send messages to other clients and add them as friends.
- In your friend list you can always see if a friend is online.
- aMule supports updating the server list from an URL during run-time.
- You can also configure aMule to download it at startup.
- It also supports updating the server while connecting to a server or a client.
- PowerShare function: better handling of your shared files (release).
- Slot allocation: you can choose how the upload is distributed. For example, if you have 20 kb/s for your maximum upload, you can set slot allocation to 10 kb/s which means that you will upload to two users with 10 kb/s each.
- amulecmd & amulecmdDLG: command line interface or graphical command line interface, to connect to your running aMule and get status or send commands.
- Works locally and from remote clients. NOTE! amulecmd and amulecmdDLG also work in WINDOWS! you can control your linux box from your offices windows.
- Fast ED2K Link handler at the bottom of every page (can be disabled on preferences. Save 5 sources on rare files (<<less

xMule 1.13.7

xMule 1.13.7

xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network. more>> xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network, intended to bring it to virtually all the major Unix platforms, with a particular emphasis on Linux. xMule is a fork of the LMule client, which itself was originally a Linux-only port of the eMule client.
This project started as an eMule v0.26d port for Linux (see lMule) and thus xMule is an eDonkey network client. Unlike eMule, which uses MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes), xMule uses wxWidgets for the Graphical User Interface and various parts of its core. wxWidgets allows software to compile and run on many platforms. xMule is in the process of supporting more platforms, such as Windows and Macintosh, by making more use of wxWidgets.
During xMules development, eMule also managed to update itself with many new features, such as: the Kad network, AICH, large files support, protocol obfuscation, and more. xMule slowly adapts these new features, as the changes are big and porting correctly takes time.

edonkey plus is a free program peer to peer (P2P) for the peer to peer network Edonkey 2000, Overnet etc.
Basic aMule Tips
- NEVER run aMule as root.
- If you are behind a firewall or router, be sure that the ports have been opened. The default ports are 4662 (TCP). 4665 (UDP) and 4672 (UDP). If these are blocked, you will receive a "LowID" which results in fewer available sources for the files you are downloading.
- Obtain an appropriate server.met: e.g., if you are a dialup, using a large server list is not appropiate.
- Set your temp and shared directories in Preferences->Directories
- To recursively select a certain directory, right-click over it.
- You should *NOT* share
- Your temp download directory!
- Your /etc directory
- Probably not your /var, /lib, /boot, or /usr directory
- Certainly make sure that any really confidential files (password files, private SSH keys, credit card numbers :) are *not* shared. So generally do not share your entire home directory, although you might want to share some files or directories in it.
- Remember that you get certain download priveledges with those clients (aMule, eMule, etc users) to whom you upload files, in the form of reduced queue waits.
- Please note that compilation with optimizations is supported. However, if you pull a Gentoo, we will probably just tell you to recompile aMule and/or your system with sane compiler-flags before we will attempt to address the problem.

ShareDaemon 0.2.0

ShareDaemon 0.2.0

ShareDaemon is a multi-platform filesharing client for eDonkey2000 network. more>>
ShareDaemon is a multi-platform filesharing client for eDonkey2000 network. Designed in clean modular setup with separated networking and interface code, ShareDaemon runs on Windows, Linux, BSD, Solaris and Mac OS X platforms.

ShareDaemon is free and open source software, licenced under GNU General Public Licence.

ShareDaemon is split into a number of smaller programs, so-called modules. The most important module is the core module, which handles all the networking and files related things. The core can be run in the background as a daemon or service, and it does not produce any graphical output.

For controlling the core, we are currently providing two graphical user interfaces: wxInterface and webInterface.

wxInterface which is what one could call "a standard interface" - it is a window, somewhat similar to eMule interface. It "talks" to the core through unix sockets or TCP/IP on non-unix platforms.

webInterface is designed for remote controlling. It also runs as a background service/daemon on the same machine as the core runs and "talks" to the core, but instead of having a "usual" graphical interface, webInterface provides a web-browser based access. All you need to access your downloads from a remote location is a web browser, and you have full control of your downloads without installing any software in the remote computer.

Packet Garden 1.0pre5

Packet Garden 1.0pre5

Packet Garden is a project that allows you to grow a world from network traffic. more>>
Packet Garden is a project that allows you to grow a world from network traffic.

Packet Garden captures information about how you use the internet and uses this stored information to grow a private world you can later explore.

To do this, Packet Garden takes note of all the servers you visit, their geographical location and the kinds of data you access.

Uploads make hills and downloads valleys, their location determined by numbers taken from internet address itself.

The size of each hill or valley is based on how much data is sent or received.

Plants are also grown for each protocol detected by the software; if you visit a website, an HTTP plant is grown. If you share some files via eMule, a Peer to Peer plant is grown, and so on.

htb-gen 0.9b-1

htb-gen 0.9b-1

htb-gen is an easy, scalable bandwidth management tool. more>>
htb-gen is meant to be an easy, scalable, yet powerfull, bandwidth management tool. You can set up/down portions of bandwith for each host or network, that goes trough your firewall/router.
Prioritary traffic(web, mail, gaming, ftp, voip, streaming) is preferred over Junk traffic(kazaa, emule, etc). Also dynamic bandwith borrow and re-assignation is done betwen host thanks to htb boundaries.
A web-frontend for config is avaible as well, so remote management is possible. All bash based so it can be used in embedded routers/firewalls (wired/wireless).
Two backend are aviable:
- generates raw tc commands
- generates htb-init conf files (util for integration)
The packet clasification is done by iptables

Howto: PPPOE with Bandwidth Management for OpenBSD is a document which explains how to build an OpenBSD based router for a small flat-sharing community with four residents.

The router should manage the available bandwidth fairly between the paying users and their guests. For the residents, it should be possible to use incoming ports for services like Skype or Emule. The howto basically addresses IT professionals with a rough idea of what OpenBSD is about.

p2pshaper 1.4.2

p2pshaper 1.4.2

p2pshaper is a Linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness on a slow network connection overloaded by p2p applications. more>>
p2pshaper is a Linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness on a slow network connection overloaded by p2p applications. It also includes generic optimizations to improve fairness. This release includes a large number of improvements since the 1.3 test release.
In short p2pshaper is a set of scripts for the Linux OS, that is used to administer bandwidth on a network overloaded by massive p2p traffic.
Normally, the amount of peer-to-peer traffic on such networks, will make it impossible to surf, not to mention doing interactive traffic (ssh). The normal action is to shut down p2p traffic totally, and set up the net, so that Internet connection is only possible through a proxy. This breaks many useful programs. And not all p2p traffic is evil. Normally, one would mark packets coming to a specific port (emule ports) to be of a lower priority than packets to other ports. This used to be a good solution. But now, there exist a huge number of p2p clients, eact with different port ranges, and also, some programs are able to change the ports. Normally the Internet newsgroup port should have a high priority. But binary newsgroups are sometimes used for massive downloads, which will use up all bandwidth. Better packet markers are needed.
p2pshaper currently exists in two versions p2pshaper v1 and p2pshaper v2. They both works in different ways, so v2 is not "better" than v1. Which one you use depends on what kind of functonality you want.
Enhancements:
- Added unified patches against recent kernels With the amount of patches p2pshaper needs, people have had problems patching kernels. To make this easier, p2pshaper now includes patches for most recent kernels. This will probably ease the installation of
- p2pshaper. Old patches have been moved to the old/ directory.
- Normal connections will never get into the lowest priority bandIntroduced already in the 1.4.1 release. This makes sure that normal traffic isnt nuked all the way into oblivion, where only evil traffic (marked by l7_filter, ipp2p or band8ports) should be.
