Free educational toys software for linux

GioveLUG Educational is a custom distro based on PuppyLinux 2.11. This is my first distro and with my LUG we delivered it to a kids fun house to let the kids learning computer loving free software.

Basically, this distro is a Puppy 2.11 with other kids software installed such as:

- TuxType2
- TuxMath
- GCompris
- SuperTux
- TuxPaint

I also installed a couple of dotpup packages such as the following:

- Vnc with GUI (by Rarsa)
- MU Translate Menu (by Mark Ulrich)

GioveLUG educational has also following libraries installed on:

Into the directory usr/share/backgrounds you can find some wallpaper for your desktop.

It is very simple to translate menu in italian if you like it, just use MU translation program with the file it.lng you can find onto Localization forum.

EduKator is an educational program made for KDE. I made this software as a part of my thesis. Im in last year of high school.

I want to help people gain knowledge about physical and mathematical statements in a way that it is fun to do. The theory is explained and it is possible to make exercises.
My aim is to make a nice program that can be used in schools and at home.

Everything we do online, what we browse, what feeds we read, what we search for, increasingly represents who we are. This "Attention Data" has real value and needs to be protected.

Until now, only companies on the other side of our clicking captured this value. AttentionTrust is a not-for-profit organization that attempts to place the user in control of his or her Attention data.

Attention Recorder is a Firefox extension that allows users to monitor their clickstream and browsing history. YOU alone are in sole control of this information, when it is stored locally on your desktop in an XML file. YOU alone can choose to share it with a service you trust.

AttentionTrust believes that you have the following rights to your Attention Data:

1. Property--You own your data
2. Mobility--You can copy or delete your data.
3. Economy--You can exchange your data with others your trust.
4. Transparency--You can see how your data is being used

muchine project is a small virtual machine that comes with its own assembler.
It features stackdump, memdump, and variable execution speed. Its actually a kind of programming exercise, and has a clean coding style.
Thus, it may be used for educational purposes.
Enhancements:
- GPL License notes inserted into source.
- Insert the vim:ts=3:sw=3 statements into all source files.
- Make it ready for uploading to sourveforge.net.

ATGeogebra provides a simple archetype product to display GeoGebra files.

GeoGebra is a free and multi-platform dynamic mathematics software for schools that joins geometry, algebra and calculus .

The basic idea of ATGeogebra is to be able to show Geogebra worksheet files ( .ggb ) within a plone site.

The .ggb files have to be loaded with Geogebras java applet and the product does that for you.

The software jar files are inside the product’s skins directory and all you have to do is to create a "Geogebra Activity" item and upload the .ggb file.

You will find a sample Geogebra worksheet ( .ggb ) inside the product’s samples directory ( same as shown in the screenshot above ).

If you use CMFContentPanels, a special viewlet will be installed.

This is a initial release. Its very simple, but fully functional.

QScintilla project is a port to Qt of Neil Hodgsons Scintilla C++ editor class.
As well as features found in standard text editing components, QScintilla includes features especially useful when editing and debugging source code.
These include support for syntax styling, error indicators, code completion and call tips. The selection margin can contain markers like those used in debuggers to indicate breakpoints and the current line.
Styling choices are more open than with many editors, allowing the use of proportional fonts, bold and italics, multiple foreground and background colours and multiple fonts.
QScintilla is licensed under the GNU GPL (for UNIX/Linux and MacOS/X), under the Qt Educational License (for use with the educational edition of Qt for Windows), and under a commercial license (for UNIX/Linux, MacOS/X and Windows).
At the moment the commercial version of QScintilla is bundled with the commercial version of PyQt. You can purchase it here.
Note that the educational edition is for educational institutions and not individual students.
QScintilla is provided in source form as a .tar.gz package for UNIX/Linux and MacOS/X, and a .zip package for Windows.
Enhancements:
- Lexers now remember their own style settings and so no longer need to be the current lexer for style changes to take effect.

Push Puppet Toy is a computer-controlled puppet that stands to attention when a friend joins an IRC channel, and collapses when he leaves.
Push Puppet Toy project was inspired by the Availabot from Schulze and Webb (http://schulzeandwebb.com/2006/availabot/). The Availabot is a puppet guy that rises to its feet when a friend comes online on IM, and falls over when the friend disappears. Its a cool little toy, but it has 3 shortcomings:
- It doesnt exist yet
- It apparently wont work in Linux
- The puppet guy looks menacing, although I understand it will be customizable
But the Availabot is obviously only a push puppet with a servo. So its easy to make a similar device with a push puppet of your liking.
Enhancements:
- A Pidgin version of the Gaim plugin was added.
