KungFu DVD Ripper is a GStreamer based DVD ripper.

KungFu creates backups of your DVDs, saving them as .oggs on your hard drive. It encodes the backup using patent-free codecs, Theora for video and Vorbis for audio.

KungFu is not designed for producing backups that fit within a certain file size (say, for burning onto CD); instead, it is designed to produce backups of consistent quality while maintaining the lowest average file size possible (for building a video library on your hard drive).

Video::DVDRip is a GUI for copying DVDs, based on an open Low Level API.

This Perl module consists currently of two major components:

1. A low level OO style API for ripping and transcoding DVD video, which is based on Thomas Oestreichs program transcode, a Linux Video Stream Processing Tool. This API is currently well undocumented.

2. A Gtk+ based Perl program called dvd::rip which provides a nice GUI to control all necessary steps from ripping, adjusting all parameters and transcoding the video to the format you desire.

The distribution name is derived from the Perl namespace it occupies:

Video::DVDRip. Although the DVD Ripper GUI is called dvd::rip, because its shorter and easier to pronounce (if you omit the colons...)

DVD Backup is an unix shell script providing functionality for backuping files and databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) on DVD discs.
DVD Backup supports multisession and incremental backups. Mail notification is also supported.

- This release sends email notifications using netcat instead of telnet.

Ogle is a real DVD player that supports DVD menus and navigation. It can access CSS-protected DVDs if you have libdvdcss installed, take screen shots, and view movies in fullscreen mode.
It handles angles correctly and automatically uses the correct aspect. You can switch subtitles and audio tracks. It runs on Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris.

Version restrictions:
- Reverse play not implemented.

- To play another DVD you have to restart the program.
- Karaoke mode is missing.

dvdindex is a free, open-source CD/DVD archiving utility to manage a collection of
CDs/DVDs.

It has built-in encryption support and is released under the GPL.

The %s and %c have an optional maximum width, e.g. %4s, in which case at most so many characters are consumed (but fewer characters are also accecpted).

The numeric formats may also have such a width but it is ignored.

The numeric formats may have [hl before the main option, e.g. %hd, but since such widths have no meaning in Perl, they are ignored.

Non-format parts of the parameter string are matched literally (e.g. : matches as :), expect that any whitespace is matched as any whitespace (e.g. matches as s+).

OGMRip is an application and a set of libraries for ripping and encoding DVD into AVI or OGM files using a wide variety of codecs. OGMRip relies on mplayer, mencoder, oggenc, ogmtools and lame to perform its tasks.
The GUI features a clean HIG-compliant GNOME 2 interface and tries to minimize as much as possible esoteric settings.

Recovery Is Possible (RIP) is a Slackware-based CD or floppy boot/rescue/backup/maintenance system. It has support for a lot of filesystem types (Reiserfs, Reiser4, ext2/3, iso9660, UDF, XFS, JFS, UFS, HPFS, HFS, MINIX, MS DOS, NTFS, and VFAT) and contains a bunch of utilities for system recovery.
R.I.P. also has IDE/SCSI/SATA, PCMCIA, RAID, LVM2, and Ethernet/DSL/cable/PPP/PPPOE network support.
The bootable CD image `RIP-12.4.iso.bin can be written to a CD/DVD disk, using cdrecord/dvdrecord etc.

The reiserfsck and fsck.reiser4 programs are used to check and repair a Linux reiserfs and reiser4 filesystem.
The xfs_repair program is used to repair a Linux xfs filesystem.
The jfs_fsck program is used to check and repair a Linux jfs filesystem.
The e2fsck program is used to check and repair a Linux ext2 or ext3 filesystem.
The ntfsresize program non-destructively resizes Windows XP/2000/NT4 or Windows Server 2003 NTFS filesystems. Read /usr/doc/RIP/ntfsresize.txt on the rescue system.
The parted program is used for creating, destroying, resizing (fat16/32, ext2/3, reiserfs v3.6), checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, copying data between hard disks and disk imaging.
The partition image program partimage saves partitions in the ext2, ext3, reiserfs, jfs, xfs, ufs, ntfs, fat16, and fat32 formats to an image file. Only used blocks are copied to save space and increase the speed. The image file can be compressed, in gzip or bzip2 formats.
