driveplugger is a removable storage manager that safely puts control into the hands of the user. driveplugger project makes devices such as USB drives, CDROMs, or any other removable media easy to use. The user can assign names to devices. Browsing, ejection, and other operations can be done through a tray icon.
How it Works
DrivePlugger uses the linux hotplug mechanism to pass information about plug/unplug events (and a secure tag) on to the user agent.
The user agent will then either ask the user what to do, or run an action previously chosen by the user. If the device is to be mounted, the user agent will run a suid script to add an entry to fstab, and then mount the drive under ~/Devices/< devicename >.
Through a tray icon, you can easily change user preferences and device settings, as well as unmount media or see (and kill) processes locking the media.

jRipper is an cd ripper and audio converter made in java.
jRipper can encode and decode Wav, Flac, MP3, Ogg, AAC(M4A) formats.
jRipper project is an frontend to cdda2wav, lame, oggenc/oggdec, flac and faac/faad programs.
jRipper can load track names for an CD from freedb.org by http or using the cdda2wav program.
It should work on all platforms that has the right java version (1.5). It has been tested on Linux and Windows XP. The installer contains static versions of cdda2wav, lame, oggenc, oggdec, flac, faac and faad for Linux and Windows.
Problems
Not all transcoding variants works. Known problems are:
AAC to Flac (linux, windows)
If jRipper cant be stopped during encoding, do kill the console program running in the background (cdda2wav, lame, ...).
Encoders
Some of the console applications have been modified to work better with jRipper. faac did get an extra quiet option which means it doesnt print anything to stderr. faad got a few extra fflush after prints to stderr. flac has some error checks canceled! It works for some degree but... So all source for the encoders are packed together for you to download. But its only the source nothing else, you have to do the compiling all by yourself.
Meta Tags
Meta tags are not converted when you do transcoding.
If an audio file can have meta tags, they will have the album and title data you see in the main window.
Installation:
- Install jRipper with clicking the jripper-install-2005.12.jar file.
- Or with the command java -jar jripper-install-2005.12.jar.
- After the install you can start jRipper with the icon on the desktop.
- If the installer failed to create an icon on the desktop or in the start menu, you can try the following ways:
- Double click jripper-2005.12.jar in the installation directory.
- Start it with java -jar jripper-2005.12.jar.
- Execute run.bat or run.sh.
To use jRipper you have to edit some settings in the setup dialog:
- Set the path to the encoder/decoder programs unless you have them already in the system path.
- Set the CD device.
- Typical values are /dev/cdrom for normal ide drives, 1,0,0 for SCSI or SCSI/IDE emulation.
- For SCSI settings run cdda2wav -scanbus as root or as a normal user in windows from a console to get a list of available drives.
- Set the root destination folder for your encoded tracks.
Enhancements:
- A minor Java 1.6 incompatibility was fixed.
- jRipper can dump a multi track CD to a single track (with an optional cue sheet).
- Two more directory layout options were added.
- All the ripper programs (for Windows) were updated.
- A few internal tweaks were made.

GliBench is a Gui based benchmarking tool to check your computers CPU and hard disk performance. The software is based on the benchmarks I developed for CliBench Mk III SMP a SMP enabled benchmark program for Win32.
There were several tries to port it to other architectures than Win32, but this was not that easy. So I decided to to a Linux port, based on the GTK toolkit with Gnome support, as Linux runs on almost every hardware around and GTK is quite easy to port to other OSs.
The CPU tests are all ported to ANSI C. They run fully multithreaded using posix threads. You can already use the program for benchmarking your hardware.
Enhancements:
- The application was completely rewritten for GTK+ 2.x and Glib 2.x.
- New stress tests and threaded I/O tests for benchmarking hard drives are available.
- Both console and GUI interfaces are available.

Davenport is a servlet providing WebDAV-based access to a Windows/Samba network. more>>
Davenport project is a servlet which provides a WebDAV gateway to SMB shared resources. Typical usage would be to provide web-based read and write access to Windows shared drives.
WebDAV clients, such as Windows "Web Folders" can copy files to and from the shares over HTTP. Non-WebDAV-capable web browsers can also access the network, downloading files from shared folders in a seamless fashion.
Users access shared resources using their Windows domain username and password, so no account configuration is typically needed. When run over HTTPS, Davenport provides a secure means of accessing internal shared drives over the internet without requiring a VPN.
Installation
The binary distribution of Davenport is provided preinstalled in a standalone Jetty Servlet container. This is distributed in zip and gzipped tar archives for deployment on a variety of platforms; it is also available as a Linux RPM install (tested on Fedora Core 2, but should be portable to most other distributions).
Zip/Tar Installation
Installation is fairly straightforward:
1. Expand the .zip or .tgz archive (preserving directory structure).
2. Configure the deployment descriptor.
RPM Installation (Linux)
1. Install the RPM:
rpm -Uhvf davenport-x.x.x-1.rpm
2. Configure the deployment descriptor.
By default, Davenport will be installed to "/opt/davenport".
Getting started
Before starting, make sure you have tailored the deployment descriptor to your environment. After configuration is complete, the Davenport container is ready be started. The simplest way to do this is to run "java -jar start.jar" in the Davenport root directory. Likewise, executing "java -jar stop.jar" will stop the container. On the Windows platform, double-clicking the .jar files should launch them as well.
After the container has been started, it should be possible to browse SMB resources using Davenport. To list the shares on an SMB server "smbserver" you would enter into your web browser:

"davserver" is the server on which Davenport is running (by default, the container will run on port 8080).
This will list all shares on the "smbserver" server; by clicking one of the shares, files will be listed, and so forth.

find_image PATH
Converts PATH from perl module notation into a file path, and searches for the file in @INC paths set. If a file is found, its full filename is returned; otherwise undef is returned.
floor DOUBLE
Obsolete function.
Returns stdlibs floor() of DOUBLE
getdir PATH
Reads content of PATH directory and returns array of string pairs, where the first item is a file name, and the second is a file type.
The file type is a string, one of the following:
"fifo" - named pipe
"chr" - character special file
"dir" - directory
"blk" - block special file
"reg" - regular file
"lnk" - symbolic link
"sock" - socket
"wht" - whiteout
This function was implemented for faster directory reading, to avoid successive call of stat for every file.
path [ FILE ]
If called with no parameters, returns path to a directory, usually ~/.prima, that can be used to contain the user settings of a toolkit module or a program. If FILE is specified, appends it to the path and returns the full file name. In the latter case the path is automatically created by File::Path::mkpath unless it already exists.
post $SUB, @PARAMS
Postpones a call to SUB with PARAMS until the next event loop tick.
query_drives_map [ FIRST_DRIVE = "A:" ]
Returns anonymous array to drive letters, used by the system. FIRST_DRIVE can be set to other value to start enumeration from. Some OSes can probe eventual diskette drives inside the drive enumeration routines, so there is a chance to increase responsiveness of the function it might be reasonable to set FIRST_DRIVE to C: string.
If the system supports no drive letters, empty array reference is returned ( unix ).
query_drive_type DRIVE
Returns one of dt::XXX constants, describing the type of drive, where DRIVE is a 1-character string. If there is no such drive, or the system supports no drive letters ( unix ), dt::None is returned.

Accepts COLOR string on one of the three formats:

#rrrgggbbb
and returns 24-bit RGB integer value.

Wipe is a file and block device wiping utility. It is based on work by Peter Gutmann.
There are some low level issues that must be taken into consideration. One of these is that there must be some sort of write barrier between passes. Wipe uses fdatasync(2)
(or fsync(2)) as a write barrier, or if fsync(2) isnt available, the file is opened with the O_DSYNC or O_SYNC flag.
For wipe to be effective, each pass must be completely written. To ensure this, the drive must support some form of a write barrier, write cache flush, or write cache disabling. SCSI supports ordered command tags, has a force
media access bit for commands, and write cache can be disable on mode page 8. IDE/ATA drives support write cache flushes and write cache disabling.
Unfortunetly, not all drives actually disable write cache when yjhis is set up.Those drives are broken. Write caching should always be disabled, unless your system is battery backed and always powers down cleanly.

The trading shim is a command-line and dbms controlled interface to the socket-based API of Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation, abbreviated as the IB tws socket api, or simply tws api. That api has a number of advantages for our purposes, including the freely available Trader Workstation, comprehensive feeds and archives for tick and history data, a paper account ideal for software testing, and low transaction costs.
The downstream drives the shim by making changes to the database. The shim consults the database at initial startup, and from time to time thereafter when signalled by brief, simple commands. This combination of database and shim integrate persistent database storage with the tws. The command interface also serves as an alternative to the existing tws gui interfaces, to permit you to use downstream programs, whether gui or not, to drive the tws through its api.
The shim is written in C++, and though developed on Linux, should run on any modern Unix-like platform. Its free software; weve released the trading shim in source form under the GNU General Public License in order to reach the widest possible community of users.

cdspeed is an application that can decrease the speed of you cdrom. more>>
cdspeed is an application that can decrease the speed of you cdrom. Modern cdrom drives are too fast. It can take several seconds on a 60x speed cdrom drive to spin it up and read data from the drive. The result is that these drives are just a lot slower than a 8x or 24x drive. This is especially true if you are only occasionally (e.g every 5 seconds) reading a small file. This utility limits the speed, makes the drive less noisy and the access time faster. cdspeed is also very good if you prefer to listen to the musik on your mp3 CDs rather then the noise of your CD drive.
Note: recent versions of the eject command include the functionallity of cdspeed (via the -x option).
Installation instructions:
