UFO: Alien Invasion 2.1.1

UFO: Alien Invasion 2.1.1

UFO: Alien Invasion is a 3D UFO-inspired tactical game. more>>
UFO: Alien Invasion is a 3D UFO-inspired tactical game.
UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force.
To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.
UFO: Alien Invasion is heavily inspired by the X-COM series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, UFO DEFENSE, became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.
UFO: Alien Invasion is neither a sequel nor a remake of UFO DEFENSE - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course). Join the IRC-Channel at irc.freenode.org named #ufo:ai and contribute to the developing process.
Gameplay:
The game is turn-based. Well, this might sound somewhat old school now, but trust us: turn-based games are fun!
Each member of your squad has a limited number so called "time units" each round, which are consumed when you order the unit to walk, to fire a weapon or to perform any of the other miscellaneous actions. When all your forces are out of time units, the aliens turn starts. In addition to eliminating as many enemies as possible, your mission is to minimize civilian casualties as well as to acquire parts of the advanced alien technology.
Once youve acquired sufficient samples of the unknown technology, your research labs will be able to reproduce the alien weapons and devices in order to use them against their original creators.
Game Engine:
The game engine is based on a heavily modified version of IDs Quake2 Engine. This doesnt imply that UFO: Alien Invasion is a mod or a total conversion at all! No, UFO: AI is a stand-alone game which doesnt require Quake2 or any similar program to run. Our self-developed game engine is featuring up-to-date OpenGL graphics and special effects, increased texture resolution, hardware accelerated clipping of map layers to toggle between floors, a new animation system for player models, a stunning AI and a few other gimmicks.
Multiplayer support:
You can play UFO: ALIEN INVASION with your friends via LAN or Internet. One player takes the role of the human special squad while the other is in control of the alien invaders. Co-op team play with multiple players on both sides is also supported for up to three teams on each side (6 players total).
Enhancements:
- Implemented sv_roundtimelimit cvar to set the maximum time a team has to finish their round in multiplayer.
- Completely rewritten saving and loading system.
- Finished implementation of Flashbang - now Flashbang will disable enemys reactionfire as well.
- Reintroduced employees renaming again.
- Hire menu and Team Select menu now shows Health bar as well.
- Heavily improved chat subsystem for multiplayer as well as Multiplayer Team Selection menu.
- Improved describing weapons and ammo in UFOpedia and other menus, including displaying firemodes.
- Added multiplayer server password protection.

Textmode Quake project is a text mode implementation for Quake.

Textmode Quake (ttyquake) exactly what it sounds like, the classic game quake, played in textmode.

Works in VTs, as, xterms (or some other variant) in X, and even telnet.

Its just what it sounds like. Rather than those trendy colored pixels that are all the rage with the kids these days, Textmode Quake uses plain text characters for its rendering.

The graphics-challenged need not feel left out any longer.

Play Quake at a text terminal, in an xterm, or over a telnet session!

Open Quartz 2004.08.01

Open Quartz 2004.08.01

Open Quartz is a replacement for the Quake 1 game data under the terms of the GNU General Public License. more>>
So what is Open Quartz? Basically, it is a replacement for the Quake 1 game data under the terms of the GNU General Public License. In addition, GPLed tools are developed to support developers of content for the Quake engine.

On 31 May 1996, id Software released the game Quake, which became a huge success. In 1999, the sourcecode for Quake was released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Thus peolple could improve the engine and use the engine to create their own games. Soon after the source release, the QuakeForge project was startet to create a cross-platform engine that would appeal to many people.

But having only a GPLed engine but non-free data files was unsatisfiyng so the QuakeForge team also startet Open Quartz.

Though being abandoned for many years, the project is going again thanks to new and devoted developers. But your help is still appreciated, there is a lot to do.

Why is having a free engine and non-free data so unsatisfying? Quake can still be easily aquired from the id Store and a Shareware Version is also available.

Yeah, thats true. Quake is a great game and we encourage everyone to buy it. Combined with up-to-date engines like Darkplaces, QuakeForge and Tenebrae its still a great experience. The reasons why OpenQuartz is developed lie not with the availability of Quake nor is Quake a bad game.

Its just that both a free engine and a free data set result in a lot more options and possibilities for developers and the end-user. Its for example not possible to ship Quake with any free Linux distribution like Debian.

But you can do that with OpenQuartz. Also, when you want to create an own game using one of the advanced Quake engines, you have to recreate everything from scratch. With OpenQuartz, you have a lot of free content already availabe which means a lot less work. Also, creating standalone games from existing Quake Mods is now easily possible thanks to Open Quartz.

eQuake Alert enables you to get alerts on land disasters like earth quake, right on your desktop.

Did you ever thought of getting alerts on land disasters like earth quake, right on your desktop . eQuake is the solution for that.

eQuake alert is a handy add-on, which alerts you with the basic information (date, location, and magnitude) of each earthquake. By default your browser will shake proportional to the earthquake magnitude.

You can configure the alert methods and even you can limit the alerts by the earth quake magnitude.

The recent quakes menu provides a link to the detailed information of quake @ the USGS (US Geological Survey) website.

StandAloneQ3 0.1

StandAloneQ3 0.1

StandAloneQ3 is a modified version of the GPL engine of Quake3. more>>
StandAloneQ3 is a modified version of the GPL engine of Quake3 which allows the player to start mods without the need of the Quake3 original CD

StandAloneQ3 is free software released under the GPL license.

To run saq3 you need to launch the mod from the command line like that:

- for windows: quake3.exe +set sf_name fname

- for linux: quake3 +set sf_name fname

Where fname is the folder name of the mod you want to run.

Known working mods are:

- World of Pandam ( http://www.worldofpadman.com/ )
- Western Quake 3 ( http://www.westernquake3.net/ )

If most of the mods will run, some shaders and/or textures used by mods may be missing, displaying errors in the game window.

When the game and maps are loaded missing textures/shaders are logged in the file "missing_shader-textures.log".

It has been reported that using the "pak0.pk3" file provided in Quake3 Arena Demo ( you need to create the folder "baseq3" in the software directory then copy pak0.pk3 in) may solve most of the shader/texture problems found in several mods and will allow bots to work.

In fact, any .pk3 file you have obtained legally can be added in baseq3 folder to complete missing textures or shaders. You must increment pak number every time you add a new one (pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3, pak2.pk3, etc... )

Quake, Quake 3 and Quake 3 Arena are trade marks of Id Software.

ioquake3 project (or ioq3 for short) aims to build upon id Softwares Quake 3 source code release. The source code was released on August 20, 2005 under the GPL. Since then, we have been cleaning up, fixing bugs, and adding features.

Our permanent goal is to create the open source Quake 3 distribution upon which people base their games and projects. We also seek to have the perfect version of the engine for playing Quake 3: Arena, Team Arena, and all popular mods.

This distribution of the engine has been ported to many new platforms and has had a slew of new features added, along with massive bug extermination. While we dont have PunkBuster (and never will), we do have more security for servers and clients from various bugfixes which arent in ids client.

WMQuake 1.1

WMQuake 1.1

WMQuake can run Quake 1 in a dockapp window. more>>
WMQuake can run Quake 1 in a dockapp window.

It works pretty well. If you plan on doing netplay with this, you cant start a new game or join a game unless you first bring up the console and type: "disconnect". Then you can start a new multiplayer game or join an existing one. This is a bug that was present in the original source, and I left it untouched. There is no mouse or CD audio support, because they were not implemented at the time, and because I find both of these features extremely useless and not worth my time implementing.

Usage is simple. All standard quake1 command line options apply except winsize, which was removed. Feature set is close to that of earlier versions of quake 1 for linux which were handled by crack.com.

This is a complete software-only version, all traces of assembly code were removed. We are dealing with such small windows, it was really unnecessary. Internally, the engine renders into 320x320 buffer, which is then scaled down to fit inside dockapp. It isnt extremely pretty but it isnt so bad either. I could have done rendering into a smaller buffer to reduce CPU load, but then the statusbar would have to be disabled. And seems like the bare minimum size to render into has to be > 128 because of some calculation errors or something, with smaller window sizes the game would segfault very often.

Just what you always wanted. Hardcore quake fanatics can now enjoy their favorite game in a 64x64 window! Now works with FreeBSD, too!

Installation:

1. check Makefile, but there is probably nothing there to see.
2. make
3. copy wmquake to where you got your id1/ dir and stuff. Make sure that dir is all lowercase and the pakfiles inside are lowercase, too etc you know the standard routine.
4. ./wmquake &
