File::Size 0.06

File::Size 0.06

File::Size is a Perl module to get the size of files and directories. more>>

SYNOPSIS

Get the size for directory /etc/ with the block size of 1024 while following symbolic links:

my $obj = File::Size->new(
dir => /etc/,
blocksize => 1024,
followsymlinks => 1,
humanreadable => 1
);
print $obj->getsize(), "n";

File::Size is used to get the size of files and directories.

There are 6 methods you can use:

new

There are 4 optional hash values for the new() method:

dir

The directory you want the module to get the size for it. Default is current working directory.

blocksize

The blocksize for the output of getsize() method. default is 1 (output in bytes).

followsymlinks

If you want to follow symlinks for directories and files, use this option. The default is not to follow symlinks.

humanreadable

If you want output size in human readable format (e.g. 2048 -> 2.0K), set this option to 1.

You dont have to specify any of those options, which means this is okay:
print File::Size->new()->getsize(), " bytesn";

This is okay too:
print File::Size->new()->setdir( /etc/ )->setblocksize( 1024**2 )->getsize(), " MBn";

setdir

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) the directory. Example: $obj->setdir( /etc/ );

setblocksize

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) the block size. Example: $obj->setblocksize( 1024 );

setfollowsymlinks

Used to set if you want to follow symbolic links or not. If called without parmeters, returns the current state. Example: $obj->setfollowsymlinks( 1 );

sethumanreadable

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) if you want human-readable output sizes. Example: $obj->sethumanreadable( 1 );

getsize

Used to calculate the total size of the directory. Prints output according to the block size you did or didnt specify.

PostScript::MailLabels 2.25

PostScript::MailLabels 2.25

PostScript::MailLabels builds printer calibration pages, and will generate PostScript code for putting addresses on mailing. more>>
PostScript::MailLabels are modules for creating PostScript files of mailing address labels.
Flexible enough to tackle other printing tasks, basically anything requiring a set fields be printed on a regular grid. Also creates PostScript(tm) code for calibrating and testing mailing label printing.
The module has three distinct output modes. In my experience, printing mailing labels is a matter of tweaking parameters to get them all to fit properly on the page. This module is designed with this in mind.
The first output is the calibration sheet. This is a pair of annotated axes, either in inches or centimeters, centered on the page and covering the whole page in X and Y directions. The intent is for you to output this page first, and simply read off the relevant page dimensions directly.
The second output is the label test. This output is a series of boxes drawn on the page, meant to outline the edges of all the mailing labels. Take this sheet and line it up with a sheet of labels to see if they actually match perfectly. If not, tweak the parameters until they do. Note that sometimes you will get a message at the bottom of the sheet saying ``Bottom gap too large, last row cannot be printed.
This means that the printable area of your printer is too small to utilize the last row of labels. I have this problem. But I handle it for you. Note also the arrows on the test sheet. As you hold the test sheet over a sheet of labels, hold it up to the light and slide the test sheet so that the boxes match the edges of the labels. If you slide in the arrow direction, that is a positive adjustment.
The other direction is negative. If the edges of some boxes come out dashed, that means that the non-printing border cuts off the end of the label, so I will adjust the printing area appropriately. Dont try to line up the dashed lines with label edges - it wont work. Just line up the solid lines.
The third output is the labels themselves. By default, I have set up a US-centric address definition :
firstname, lastname, street address, city, state, zipcode
But with version 2.0, you can now create your own definition. You can define new fields, and you can define how those fields land on a label. You can also control the fonts on a per-field basis. Not the size, yet - later pilgrim.
Parameters you can set :
Paper size, orientation, borders on the printable area (many printers will not print right up to the edge of the paper), where the labels live on the page and how big they are, overall x-y shift of page, whether or not to print PostNET barcode, font, fontsize, units (english or metric), which Avery(tm) product code to use, and where the first label starts.
This last needs explanation. If you have a partially used sheet of labels, you might want to use it up. So you count the missing labels, starting at the upper left, and counting across, and then down. For example, if I have 3 columns of labels, label five is the second label in the second row.
If you have an Avery(tm) product that I havent defined, send me the specs and Ill add it.
Also, if there is another brand of labels that you use, send me the relevant data and Ill add that as well. I suspect that there must be some other vendor in Europe, but I dont know who that would be.
When setting up the addresses, I check to see if they will fit on the label. If not, I try to shorten them semi-intelligently until they fit. This part could use quite a bit more work, if done right it probably merits a module all its own.
Briefly, for the name line, I start trimming the ends off the first name, and leave the last name alone.
For the street, I look for things like Road or Avenue and nuke those first, then I trim the street name from the right.
Enhancements:
- Parentheses are now escaped in the generated PostScript code.

DB_eSession provides a class that securely stores PHP sessions in a MySQL database. more>>
DB_eSession provides a class that securely stores PHP sessions in a MySQL database.
DB_eSession is a feature-packed PHP class that stores session data in a MySQL database rather than files. It is powerful, designed with security in mind, and is easy to utilize.
The code contains lots of comments, and it comes with full documentation and examples of how to use the class including a basic authentication login/logout process.
It includes member functions useful (to webmasters) for monitoring or viewing, deleting, and altering sessions validity for the case of locking one or more sessions upon detection of unauthorized use.
Main features:
- General features:
- Stores session data in a MySQL table using PHPs built-in session handler.
- Built-in handling of session expiration and cleanup.
- Supports the changes of session related configuration settings (inc. PHP5).
- Allows for normal or persistent MySQL database connections.
- Access to opened MySQL resource connection to use in your script.
- Accepts a passed database resource link to use as the DB connection.
- Supports session IDs between 12 and 32 characters long.
- Custom or changeable database, table and column names.
- An option to create new session IDs (you supply, class or PHP builds).
- Can initiate buffered output (using ob_start) within the class.
- A session_start() automatically initiated within the class.
- Can send Cache-Control: header output within the class (fixes IE6 bug).
- Ability to retrieve a specific sessions expiration date and time.
- Retrieve current session life setting in seconds or minutes.
- Retrieve a numeric total of the number of active and inactive sessions in table.
- Facility to make assignment and retrieval of session variables easier.

Genetic Algorithm File Fitter 0.5.1

Genetic Algorithm File Fitter 0.5.1

Genetic Algorithm File Fitter extracts subsets of an input list of files/directories. more>>
Genetic Algorithm File Fitter (gaffitter) is a command-line software written in C++ that extracts --via Genetic Algorithm-- subsets of an input list of files/directories that best fit the given volume size (target), such as CD, DVD and others. Genetic Algorithm File Fitter is initially designed to run under Linux and POSIX systems, but easily portable to non-POSIX operating environment.
Using GA search, gaffitter improve different combinations of the files on the list so that the lost of space will be minimized. Ideal to be used for backups/records in CD, DVD and others.
Main features:
- Uses a global meta-heuristic (Genetic Algorithm search).
- The command-line interface provides high integration (via pipe) with other tools, i.e. works as a "filter".
- Pretty configurable. gaffitter have many input parameters to control/adjust its behavior (including GA params).
- It is free software! (GPL)
Usage:
gaffitter [options...] < files >

Diagnotep 2007.1

Diagnotep 2007.1

Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. more>>
Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. Diagnotep project works in the mozilla browser, it might not work properly in other browsers. This is version 2007.1. To run the entire engine on your machine for a faster search, unzip the health archive into a folder and then open the file "health_diagnotep.html" with a browser.

The program is under the GPL license which basically welcomes you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public. The text is under the GNU Free Documentation License which allows you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public.

The program searches among the symptoms of a medical database, so the results will only be medical afflictions. There are about 1,800 afflictions in the database, so no matter how deep the search depth and how many symptoms are entered, there will be at most about 1,800 results. The links from the results page point to affliction pages which are either public domain government pages or GNU Free Documentation License pages.

The greatest advantage of the diagnotep search engine is that it searches only medical affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with pages which are not about health. Another advantage is that the program searches only the symptom part of the affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with unrelated medical pages. The greatest disadvantage of diagnotep is that it searches a medical database which is large, but incomplete; it does not include all the medical pages on the internet. Another disadvantage is that diagnotep has a size of about 200 kilobytes and so takes about 30 seconds to load on a 56k dialup modem.

Diagnotep development is ongoing and in the future it is hoped that there will be expanded treatment sections for common afflictions, that more afflictions will be added to the medical database and that the 200 kB size of the diagnotep script will be reduced for faster loading.

BSFlite 0.82

BSFlite 0.82

BSFlite is a minimalistic, line-based AIM client for Unix. more>>
BSFlite is a minimalistic, line-based AIM client for Unix.
Instead of having a full screen console interface, BSFlite employs a command line interface that allows your fingers to do all of the work without needlessly sifting through windows.
BSFlite runs on UNIX (including Linux, all of the BSDs, Solaris, etc.), Zeta (and possibly BeOS), Windows, DOS, Mac OS X, and Plan 9.
Well, minimalistic doesnt necessarily mean sparse. Lets call it, say, nimble. BSFlite supports most standard AIM features, with the notable exceptions of chat rooms and block lists.
For casual day-to-day chat, its perfect, if for nothing else than one important feature: once your fingers learn the commands, it doesnt matter if your brain remembers them or not. Youll be amazed at how efficiently you can juggle conversations with BSFlite. Seriously.
Main features:
- Runs on just about any UNIX machine of any speed
- Uses very few resources, even compared to other console clients
- Very portable codebase with BSD-licensed AIM library for use in your own projects
- Windows port with tiny binary size - put it on a floppy or USB stick and load it up when you need AIM at an Internet cafe or public terminal
- Works great with screen, so you can leave your AIM session logged in when youre not physically at your terminal
- Not affiliated with America Online in any way
Enhancements:
- Several memory leaks and bugs were fixed.
- Better color support and the ability to reconnect were added.
- A man page is now available.

Come And Go Encryption 1.02

Come And Go Encryption 1.02

Come And Go Encryption provides an encryption program based off one-time pads. more>>
Come And Go Encryption provides an encryption program based off one-time pads.
Cum And Go Encryption is a very basic program to encrypt or decrypt a program using a variant of the one-time pad. This allows for almost uncrackable encryption.
Why is it still crackable? The program uses one relatively small key to XOR the contents of another file, encrypting it.
A one-time pad uses a very large key (about the same size as the file/data to encrypt) and is completely random. Still, the encryption is good enough to mask the identity of a program or document, or stop someone from accessing that document or program.
The origins of this program were an effort to stop a specific kind of movie and image from being viewed normally.
Installing is a breeze: simply run the program. Put it anywhere you like, it wont matter as long as you put the full path to the program to encrypt/decrypt.
Run the program to see a basic description of its use.
This program works very well in windows but was designed for use in Linux/UNIX. The stdout option allows for decryption to standard output, allowing one to pipe the programs decrypted data to another program.
This could be used to view an encrypted movie without having to write the whole movie to disk; the only problem with this is that on some Operating Systems pipes are slow and inefficient, especially with a high-bitrate movie. Steps will be taken to speed this up in the future.
Enhancements:
- Fix password use so the password is not shown in "encrypted" files
- Use an actual encryption method, and not a cheesy XOR
- Adapt CAG to use modules such as SHA, Crypt, MD5, and others
