BPM-DJ script combines Amarok with a great DJing tool called BPM-DJ. more>>
BPM-DJ script combines Amarok with a great DJing tool called BPM-DJ.

So if you want to play DJ with your collection, this could be one way:).

The BPM-DJ player can change tempo, jump around in a track by measures, detect the bpms, has some effects built in and can jump to definable cueing points.

The script adds a menu entry to the context menu of tracks in your playlist with which you can put the selected track on a "virtual turntable" (kbpm-play).
The script just executes kbpm-play with the right parameters -very simple but useful.

You need BPM-DJ for this script to make sense. Check out: http://bpmdj.sourceforge.net

Usage:

Right-click on the track in your playlist, select BPM-DJ and then choose Deck1 or Deck2 to put that track on one of your "virtual turntables" kbpm-play.

Fair DJ 1.0.0

Fair DJ 1.0.0

Fair DJ is an Mserv-compatible music server designed to play music in a room with several users sharing a set of speakers. more>>
Fair DJ is an Mserv-compatible music server designed to play music in a room with several users sharing a set of speakers.

The users can rate songs, and Fair DJ selects songs using these ratings and a fairness algorithm to ensure that everybody is happy.

FairDJ is an extended version of Mserv, written in the Java programming language.

Installation:

Starting fairdj for the first time will create a settings file in your users home directory. FairDJ will print out a helpful location message specifying the path to this file. Since you most likely want to edit this file before starting Fair DJ for real, weve included a helpful install option which simply exits after creating the settings file.

Start FairDJ with the following command line:

java -jar fairdj.jar -install

FairDJ should exit after logging a message specifying where the settings file was written. To specify another location for this settings file, use the settings option:

java -jar fairdj.jar -settings < settings file >

Edit the settings file by hand, using your favourite XML/Text editor, to point to wherever you want to store your ratings, where your music is, and where your user database should be. The settings file is fairly well commented and should provide you with the information you need to configure your Fair DJ installation. The new user database will be empty, and only the default user and password, as specified in the settings file, will be valid.

To get help on the available options, use the help option:

java -jar fairdj.jar -help [< option >]

To connect to FairDJ, connect with a telnet client to the specified port (default 4444), for example:

telnet localhost 4444

Log in with your default user and password. To get help on the available commands in FairDJ, type "help" followed by enter in the telnet client.

Start by creating a superuser (master), and a user for yourself. They can be the same if you want to. Here is an example:

create myuser mypass MASTER

If you need further assistance, please check out the forum at: http://hirt.se/php/phpBB2/index.php

Known issues:
* Ogg tag support has not been verified.
* Equalizer has not been implemented.

Smart DJ 0.6.0

Smart DJ 0.6.0

Smart DJ lets you find tracks based on how similar they sound to each other. more>>
Smart DJ lets you find tracks based on how similar they sound to each other.

Smart DJ can also automatically add new tracks to your playlist based on how similar they are to what youve been listening to.

You already know how powerful amaroKs search and playlist management capabilities are. Just imagine how cool it would be to find songs that sounds like the one youre listening to, right now. Similar genre, similar sound, similar tempo. Now imagine this: you start playing one of your favorite songs, and, as time goes by, amaroK adds similar songs to your playlist, maintaining the mood. Not just "songs someone else found similar", but songs that truly sound alike, same genre, same mood, same tempo.

Thats what Smart DJ does. Start with a good song, and let amaroK Smart DJs Auto DJ do the rest. Or scratch on your favorite DJ program, and Smart DJ will let you find what to play next real quick. Or build fantastic playlists, sorted by tempo, or song similarity, the sky is the limit. Or simply take any of Smart DJs suggestions for similar songs in the Context browser. Thats the greatest way to discover an entire music collection.

This plug-in is perfect for people who hate making playlists, or hate the predictibility of hearing a playlist, or hate amaroKs Dynamic mode tendency to add songs that ruin the mood. This plug-in is also for people who want to discover the lost and unknown good songs in their own collection. Finally, this plug-in is perfect for DJs who want to plan good sets of songs and playlists for live performance.

DJ Jack is a free audio player suite for the JACK audio server and the GNOME desktop. more>>
DJ Jack is a free audio player suite for the JACK audio server and the GNOME desktop.

Dj Jacks main goal is to provide a simple and powerful set of programs to professional DJs playing at parties and clubs. Designed with simplicity and usability in mind.

Installation:

The simplest way to compile this package is:

1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system. If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.

Running `configure takes awhile. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.

2. Type `make to compile the package.

3. Optionally, type `make check to run any self-tests that come with the package.

4. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.

5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean. To also remove the files that `configure created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean. There is also a `make maintainer-clean target, but that is intended mainly for the packages developers. If you use it, you may have to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.

DBMix 0.9.8

DBMix 0.9.8

DBMix is a software DJ mixing system for digital audio. more>>
DBMix project is a DJ mixing system for digital audio. DBMix allows a user to output multiple simultaneous audio streams on a single sound device, and to transform/modify each stream independently. There are five main components to DBMix:
- Fourier Synthesis Daemon - this is a daemon application that handles adding multiple data streams into a single data stream for output, allowing you to play multiple songs simultaneously with a single soundcard. Each data input stream to the fourier synthesis daemon is refered to as a "channel", because this is the name given to each input to an analog DJ Mixer.
- Clients - responsible for creating input to the system, and writing the data to a dbfsd channel. Example generators are xmms, mpg123, and sox.
- DBAudiolib - this is the client interface API to dbmix. It provides transparent format conversion and pitch/speed control.
- Mixer - the mixer is the user interface to the DBMix system. It allows a single interface to control all input channels. An example of a mixer is the DBMixer application. DBMixer allows the user to mute, change volume, cue, and crossfade inputs
- Peripherals - hardware devices that you can use to control aspects of dbmix. See the section on exmixer below for and example.
Main features:
- Output multiple audio channels (up to 8 inputs) using a single sound device
- Cueing support using multiple soundcards. (ability to have one sound device used for a master output, and a second sound device for headphones)
- Cueing support using a single soundcard.
- Supports the standard digital audio format of 16bit signed data at 44.1 KHz
- Use of the Open Sound System for sound device control
- Session recording to a wav file (controlled by the dbmixer options menu)
- A single DJ Mixer style GUI interface for controlling DBMix channels.
- Independent channel controls: volume/gain/level, pitch/speed control +/- 10%mute, cue, and pause.
- IPC layer to allow the mixer to control the play/pause/stop/etc of dbmix client programs.
- Crossfader
- Punch buttons (allows you to add in the muted crossfader input. Handy for popping in sound bytes)
- Control of master and cue soundcard mixers
- Swap master and cue soundcards on the fly
- Autofade buttons with fade speed control
- L/R Balance control
- Clipping notification
- The mixer is optionally controled by an external device. See section titled Exmixer.
- Digital Sampler with start/end editing abilities, and Load/Save samples
- Beat matching synchronization tools (sorry no UI yet)
- Multiple client support: xmms output plugin, mpg123, dbcat, terminatorX, gqmpeg (Note: to use gqmpeg, openthe preferences dialog, choose the Output tab, and enter "-s" in the User options field to enable output to stdout. To launch gqmpeg, type "gqmpeg | dbcat &" at the command prompt)
- speed/pitch control.
- format conversion from:
- 8 bit signed mono and stereo data
- 8 bit unsigned mono and stereo data
- 16 bit signed mono and stereo data
The following features will be included in future versions of DBMix:
- ALSA sound system output support.
- Network client support
- freeBSD port
- Icecast support

madman 0.93

madman 0.93

madman is a digital music manager. more>>
madman makes your digital music experience what it should have been from the start. Fun, not clumsy. Organized, not a mess. Cool, not technical. Lets face it: The "Open file" dialog is not an appropriate way to find the music that you like. Come and take a look what madman can do for you.

madman automatically creates an index of all the digital music that you have. So, if you know you have that cool old Indie album lying around somewhere, but you just cant remember where, use madmans intelligent search features to see where it is.

All you need to do to start enjoying madman is tell it where you keep your music. It will politely ask the first time you start it. It will create an index of your music once. After that, all the data is stored in a madman database that is ready to be searched within seconds, madman will even remember which database you used last.

madman can read MP3s and the fairly recent Ogg Vorbis file format. Vorbis files usually get much higher quality into way smaller files. So thats one big bonus.

If you add or remove music from your hard disk, madman will notice and update your database accordingly. (you may need to issue a "rescan" command - depending on how you set the "rescan on startup" option).

madman keeps track of when you last played what song, how often, and if you let it play to the end. It also gives you the option to rate songs on an easy scale ranging from zero to five stars.

Besides the usual Artist/Title/Album information, madman also has a Performer field, which is useful if you like classical recordings or dance tracks that were remixed by a DJ. madman lets you customize which information you want to see and how you want it arranged. It will remember your decisions faithfully between runs.

Digital music from (*cough*) dubious sources often does not carry much tag information besides its filename. So, you need to change some tags, often lots of them. madman makes that easy, too. If you see a tag that you dont like: Just "slow doubleclick" on it, and madman allows you to change it. Need to change more than one tag? Look for "Tag > Repeat last retag on selection" on the right-click menu.

madman can also tag from filenames if they contain sufficient information. Theres also an AutoTag feature that will guess tags in an "intelligent" way based on the information in your database. A future version will even completely take away the load of retagging through the use of MusicBrainz.

One of madmans most powerful features is having automatic playlists. Some music managers allow you to have playlists built automatically through the use of rules. You enter "Everything by Aerosmith", and you get just that. madman can do that, too.

But it can do even more: Playlists are not either rule-based (aka "vfolders") or handmade. madman combines the two into its notion of an automatic playlist. So just manually add a few songs that sound "just like Aerosmith" to your Aerosmith playlist, and live happily ever after. :)

libnjb 2.2.5

libnjb 2.2.5

libnjb is a C library and API for communicating with the Creative Nomad JukeBox and Dell DJ digital audio players under Linux. more>>
libnjb is a C library and API for communicating with the Creative Nomad JukeBox and Dell DJ digital audio players under Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Windows.
The protocol these devices use is presumably called PDE (Portable Digital Entertainment protocol) at Creative. Newer devices using the Microsoft MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) are NOT supported.
There are no kernel devices required for libnjb:s operation, so instead it depends on user-level USB using libusb on all platforms. The following platforms are currently supported:
FreeBSD and NetBSD. FreeBSD is the primary development platform, though NetBSD users have successfully built and run the library and sample applications.
OpenBSD has not been tested, but if it uses the same USB stack as the other BSDs, then it should work fine.
Linux works fine. (Note that libusb also requires that users mount the usbdevfs filesystem, which everybody should have as default nowadays.)
MacOS X (Darwin) is also supported and works fine.
Solaris is supported through Sun:s own reimplementation of libusb.
Working Devices:
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox 1 (aka D.A.P.)
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox 3
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen USB 2.0
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen NX
- Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra
- Creative Zen Touch
- Creative Zen Micro
- Creative Zen Sleek
- Creative Zen
- Dell Digital Jukebox ("Dell DJ")
- Second Generation Dell DJ
- Dell Pocket DJ
NOT SUPPORTED:
- Creative Zen Portable Media Center
- Creative Zen MicroPhoto
- Any other MTP device
Newer devices have a 2.x MTP/PlaysForSure firmware upgrade - we do not support MTP so please dont install it!

GJay 0.2.8.3

GJay 0.2.8.3

GJay generates playlists across a collection of music. more>>
GJay (Gtk+ DJ) generates playlists across a collection of music (ogg, mp3, wav) such that each song sounds good following the previous song.
GJay project is ideal for home users who want a non-random way to wander large collections or for DJs planning a set list.
You can generate playlists from within the application, or run GJay as a standalone command-line utility.
Playlist matches are based on:
Song characteristics that dont change
Frequency fingerprint
Beats per minute
Location in file system
Song attributes that you set
Rating
Color (whatever that means to you)
Currently, GJay only works under Linux. There are plans afoot to get it working on MacOS.
Enhancements:
Bugs:
- Color saturation was being factored in _way_ too much for playlist generation (thanks to William Thomas for pointing this out)
- Fix case where some long analysis runs were not getting written to data.xml properly (sourceforge bug 698761)
Features:
- Make playlist time 4 digits wide so users can have extra-long lists (sourceforge bug 745364)
- Use both inode and dev for identifying symlinks (debian bug 227122)
