Linux Vacation 1.2.6.1
Linux vacation is a automatic mail-answering program. more>>
Version 1.1 was a security-patched version. The former version 1.0 had a bad security bug which Olaf Kirch reported to the CERT mailing list (after giving me a hint :-). Please DO NOT LONGER USE vacation-1.0!
As far as Copyrights are concerned, the original parts of vacation are under the BSD copyright whereas I place my changed under the GPL (see file COPYING in the directory).
I tried to make this port look just like the version found with SunOS 4.1.x. There are minor differences, it resembles more the Sun version than the original 386bsd source.
Unpack the package as follows
mkdir -p /usr/src # if not already present :-)
chdir /usr/src
gzip -dc /vacation-1.1.tgz | tar xpvf -
A simple `make install (install-aout is no longer supported as of version 1.2) should install binary in /usr/bin and the manpages in /usr/man/man*, respectively. If you choose different directories, edit the Makefile.
Vacation 1.1.8
Vacation is a mail auto-responder (for when you are on vacation and such), written in Perl. more>>
Vacation is loosely based on the vacation program by Larry Wall and Tom Christiansen.
I decided to write a new vacation clone since I could not find a version that would work reliably under Red Hat Linux 6.0. I finally found the old Perl version by Larry Wall and Tom Christiansen -- it was the most full-featured, and it almost worked. So, I decided to rewrite it. You may find the original version as "vacation.orig" in this distribution.
Since then, several others have released similar implementations and updates to vacation. While there is no longer a gap to fill, this version still provides a few unique features, flexibility, and portability.
You may also find a simpler auto-responder script in this distribution called mail-responder.pl. This precursor to vacation may be more appropriate at the system level (e.g., called from the aliases file) as compared to vacation which is designed for individual users.
Enhancements:
- Added a Vacation tag to From: addresses
- Added a routine to properly generate date headers (long overdue!) Thanks to Milivoj Ivkovic for the example
- Added a flag to only respond to specified senders Thanks to Jeff Chan for the feature request
- Improved parsing of From: addresses Thanks to Mark Haidl
- Added $RECIPIENT and $SENDER tokens Thanks to Wayne Fathers for the feature request

You dont need to install it or unpack it. Just download the program and double click to run it.
Other software by HeracleSoftware:
DNA Baser is an affordable alternative for assembly of DNA sequences and generation of contigs. File formats supported are abi, scf and seq (or FASTA). Chromatograms of the assembled sequences are displayed in a synchronized format with the generated contig. Ambiguous bases in the contig are highlighted and corrections are suggested by DNABaser based on Quality Values of the trace files. Minimum input from the user required. Editing of ambiguous bases, including insertion and deletion, is possible. The settings of the assembly engine can be adjusted by the user. The user can personalize the appearance of chromatograms, nucleotides, background. The Quality Values of the trace files are displayed above chromatograms, so that the user can easily decide on the corrections in the final contig. Original chromatogram files are automatically trimmed based on Quality Values. The contig is automatically saved in FASTA format, in the same directory with the original trace files. By using a built-up database of primer and vector sequences, that can be edited/upgraded by the user, DNABaser can be set to automatically trim the vector sequence out of the final contig.
The affordable price is another important feature of DNABaser, at only 490 USD per single license; significant discounts are offered for institutions that order several licenses of DNABaser (see our pricing policy on our web pages).

Yet Another Autoresponder 0.3.1
Yet Another Autoresponder (yaa) is an email (vacation) autoresponder. more>>
Yes, i wrote yet another mail autoresponder daemon. Why? Becouse i was looking for mail autoresponder daemon, which would be easily extendable and would work with Postfix virtual delivery daemon virtual(8). Unfortunatly i was not able to find something like that on the internet, thats why I wrote it in Perl.
Main features:
- Fetches autoresponder data (subject, message, etc...) using plugins
- Currently developed plugins: SQL, LDAP, DB_File, BerkeleyDB, PCRE, STATIC
- It can forward entire original message to the per-recipient custom tunable email address
- Doesnt respond to mailing list posts and posts, that could couse autoresponder deadlock.
- Autoresponse messages can be in any charset.
- Single, all-in-one configuration file
- Can act as SMTP or LMTP server in daemon mode
Image Cluster 0.1
Image Cluster copies and renames images based on Exif data and file number names. more>>
The inspiration for this program came from recently getting a new Canon SD500 camera to replace my Canon S30 that Id had for years. The upside, the Canon SD500 rocks! The downside, I now have 2 cameras that are burning through the same sequence numbers, so my previous solution of just putting all the files in to directories by the first 2 digits of the sequence numbers was no longer going to work.
Imagecluster solves this problem, plus another grouping problem that Id been thinking about, by extracting the CreateDate and FileNumber exif tags from the images, and using that as the basis of a new filename (typically YYYY:mm:dd_HH:MM:SS_FileNumber.jpg). This ensures that 2 images taken at the same second have an even smaller chance of colliding, as their camera sequence numbers would have to also be the same at that second.
But that is just the first step. I have noticed that I am an occational photographer, so take pictures in bursts, often for a weekend of hanging out with folks, though sometimes for a vacation as well. This got me thinking. What I really needed is a tool that also creates directories that allows for some minimum tollerance between CreateDate, that is used to cluster images. For me, the optimum value seems to be 36 hours, though this is configurable via the command line.
This took me an afternoon to pull together, Im sure it could be smarter, but it is useful enough to post for others to use.
Options:
-d directory
Set the target directory for images. Defaults to /tmp/photos, which is probably not what you want.
-D
Dryrun. Tells you what the program would have done.
-h
Print out help message
-s
Seperator character. It defaults to : (i.e. 2005:10:09...), but is user configurable because my friend Clemens wants to use - (i.e. 2005-10-09) instead.
-t
Set the tollerance for image clustering. This is the maximum time between any 2 pictures in a cluster, which will cause a new cluster to be created. The name of the cluster will be YYYY:MM:DD of the first image in the cluster, even if it spans multiple days. Because this tollerance is the maximum time between any two images in the cluster, it is possible that all images you have ever taken could be in 1 cluster, if you took a picture every day of your life. Hence, this feature isnt useful to everyone. If you are that kind of person, set tollerance to 16 hours or something, and youll tend to get 1 day sized buckets.
-v
Prints verbose output

Net::Amazon 0.39
Net::Amazon is a framework for accessing amazon.com via REST. more>>
SYNOPSIS
use Net::Amazon;
my $ua = Net::Amazon->new(token => YOUR_AMZN_TOKEN);
# Get a request object
my $response = $ua->search(asin => 0201360683);
if($response->is_success()) {
print $response->as_string(), "n";
} else {
print "Error: ", $response->message(), "n";
}
ABSTRACT
Net::Amazon provides an object-oriented interface to amazon.coms
REST interface. This way its possible to create applications
using Amazons vast amount of data via a functional interface, without
having to worry about the underlying communication mechanism.
Net::Amazon works very much like LWP: First you define a useragent like
my $ua = Net::Amazon->new(
token => YOUR_AMZN_TOKEN,
max_pages => 3,
);
which you pass your personal amazon developers token (can be obtained from http://amazon.com/soap) and (optionally) the maximum number of result pages the agent is going to request from Amazon in case all results dont fit on a single page (typically holding 20 items). Note that each new page requires a minimum delay of 1 second to comply with Amazons one-query-per-second policy.
According to the different search methods on Amazon, theres a bunch of different request types in Net::Amazon. The user agents convenience method search() triggers different request objects, depending on which parameters you pass to it:
$ua->search(asin => "0201360683")
The asin parameter has Net::Amazon search for an item with the specified ASIN. If the specified value is an arrayref instead of a single scalar, like in
$ua->search(asin => ["0201360683", "0596005083"])
then a search for multiple ASINs is performed, returning a list of results.
$ua->search(actor => "Adam Sandler")
The actor parameter has the user agent search for items created by the specified actor. Can return many results.
$ua->search(artist => "Rolling Stones")
The artist parameter has the user agent search for items created by the specified artist. Can return many results.
$ua->search(author => "Robert Jordan")
The author parameter has the user agent search for items created by the specified author. Can return many results.
$ua->search(browsenode=>"4025", mode=>"books" [, keywords=>"perl"])
Returns a list of items by category ID (node). For example node "4025" is the CGI books category. You can add a keywords parameter to filter the results by that keyword.
$ua->search(exchange => Y04Y3424291Y2398445)
Returns an item offered by a third-party seller. The item is referenced by the so-called exchange ID.
$ua->search(keyword => "perl xml", mode => "books")
Search by keyword, mandatory parameters keyword and mode. Can return many results.
$ua->search(wishlist => "1XL5DWOUFMFVJ")
Search for all items in a specified wishlist. Can return many results.
$ua->search(upc => "075596278324", mode => "music")
Music search by UPC (product barcode), mandatory parameter upc. mode has to be set to music. Returns at most one result.
$ua->search(isbn => "0439784549")
Book search by ISBN (International Standard Book Number), mandatory parameter isbn. Returns at most one result. When searching non-US locales use the 13-digit ISBN.
$ua->search(similar => "0201360683")
Search for all items similar to the one represented by the ASIN provided. Can return many results.
$ua->search(power => "subject: perl and author: schwartz", mode => "books")
Initiate a power search for all books matching the power query. Can return many results. See Net::Amazon::Request::Power for details.
$ua->search(manufacturer => "Disney")
Initiate a search for all items made by a given manufacturrer. Can return many results. See Net::Amazon::Request::Manufacturer for details.
$ua->search(musiclabel => "Arista")
Initiate a search for all items made by a given music label. Can return many results. See Net::Amazon::Request::MusicLabel for details.
$ua->search(publisher => "oreilly")
Initiate a search for all items made by a given publisher. Can return many results. See Net::Amazon::Request::Publisher for details.
$ua->search(blended => "Perl")
Initiate a search for items in all categories.
$ua->search(seller => "A2GXAGU54VOP7")
Start a search on items sold by a specific third-party seller, referenced by its ID (not seller name).
$ua->search(textstream => "Blah blah Rolling Stones blah blah")
Find items related to keywords within a text stream.
The user agents search method returns a response object, which can be checked for success or failure:
if($resp->is_success()) {
print $resp->as_string();
} else {
print "Error: ", $resp->message(), "n";
}
In case the request for an item search succeeds, the response contains one or more Amazon properties, as it calls the products found. All matches can be retrieved from the Response object using its properties() method.
In case the request fails, the response contains one or more error messages. The response objects message() method will return it (or them) as a single string, while messages() (notice the plural) will return a reference to an array of message strings.
Response objects always have the methods is_success(), is_error(), message(), total_results(), as_string() and properties() available.
total_results() returns the total number of results the search yielded. properties() returns one or more Net::Amazon::Property objects of type Net::Amazon::Property (or one of its subclasses like Net::Amazon::Property::Book, Net::Amazon::Property::Music or Net::Amazon::Property::DVD), each of which features accessors named after the attributes of the product found in Amazons database:
for ($resp->properties) {
print $_->Asin(), " ",
$_->OurPrice(), "n";
