Project VDW 0.51

Project VDW contains a package that generates van der Waerden sequences. more>>
Project VDW contains a package that generates van der Waerden sequences.
Project VDW is a an attempt to further research into van der Waerden sequences.
The software consists of a client that generates sequences, and a utility to generate unique starting seeds.
The ultimate goal of this project is to develop a BOINC-based client that can supply the massively parallel computing resources necessary to solve currently untouched sequences.
Currently the makefile will compile and test several different versions using char, u_char, int, u_int, long, and u_long as the element type.
Different architectures perform differently on chars vs ints and differently given the size of the data cache.
Feel free to try different combinations of element type to optimize the code for your particular configuration.
Enhancements:
- Changed to timed checkpointing
- Changed to millionbased accounting from 2^32 accounting
- Added Interrupted/Completed messages to output file
- Changed makefile to test different element types
- and lots of other cool stuff.

Mindless 1.0.0

Mindless 1.0.0

Mindless is a mastermind-like game. more>>
csvdiff is a simple perl script to compare two (comma) seperated files with each other.
Mindless is an SDL-based puzzle game similar to the classic boardgame Mastermind.
The goal of the game is to crack a secret code consisting of four balls which can each be one of eight colors. The players takes turn guess (or do it simultaneously) and the first one to guess his/her code has won.
If both players takes the same number of turns to get the code correct then both has won.
For your help when guess you will for each (incorrect) answer see a combination of one or more black tokens and one or more white tokens on the right side of your last answer.
Each black token means that one of your balls is both of the correct color and location, but you dont know which one, and each white token means that one of your balls is of the correct color but wrong location.
You can play human vs. human, human vs. computer, or computer vs. computer.
Currently each player can either be controlled by a human player, a human with some computer assistance or by the computer. For computer controlled players there exists three different difficulty settings: "Automata", which is the simplest, "Computer" which is the default and "AI" which is the hardest.
Note that the AI setting uses quite a lot CPU cycles and it runs very slowly with more than 8 colors.
Enhancements:
- New gui elements, alternative AIs and "cyborg" mode.

Forecastfox 0.9.5.2

Forecastfox 0.9.5.2

Forecastfox is a Firefox extension to get international weather forecasts from AccuWeather.com. more>>
Forecastfox is a Firefox extension to get international weather forecasts from AccuWeather.com, and display it in any toolbar or statusbar with this highly customizable and unobtrusive extension.

Why the switch from Weather.com to AccuWeather.com?

Several factors contributed to us switching our data provider from Weather.com to Accuweather.com. The "Terms of Use" for the feed from Weather.com, was very restrictive. It kept us from implementing some of the things we hope to implement. They had also warned us that they were changing the feed and that we were in breach of the license (25,000 users max on the public XOAP weather.com feed). They offered another feed we could use, which would have limited the amount of data we received. At the same time several companies were contacting us about using their data. Accuweather.com was the most responsive, and provided us with greatest flexibilty and room to grow.

Please note that version 0.7.5 and higher "pings" our server when it is installed or uninstalled. No information is sent other than what version is being installed or uninstalled, and on what program (Mozilla vs Firefox). We simply increment a value in a database everytime it gets pinged so that we can have a rough estimate of the number of Forecastfox users. You can see the statistic page that we use at http://forecastfox.ensolis.com/logs/status.php. By knowing how many users we have and how many users upgrade, we will have a better idea of what we need to work on. For example, we will know if we should spend time supporting Mozilla and Netscape, and if we need to support migrating/upgrading from early versions. Thank you for understanding.

EncFS 1.3.2

EncFS 1.3.2

EncFS is a FUSE-based encrypted virtual filesystem for Linux. more>>
EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. EncFS runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface. You can find links to source and binary releases below.

As with most encrypted filesystems, Encfs is meant to provide security against off-line attacks; ie your notebook is stolen, your backups are stolen, etc. The way Encfs works is different from the loopback encrypted filesystem support built into the Linux kernel because it works on files at a time, not an entire block device.

You do not need to allocate storage ahead of time for EncFS.

Advantages of a pass-thru system vs an encrypted block device:

An empty EncFS filesystem consists of a couple dozen bytes. With a loopback encrypted filesystem, you allocate a filesystem ahead of time with the size you want.

An EncFS filesystem can be backed-up on a file-by-file basis. A backup program can detect which files have changed, even though it wont be able to decipher the files. This way backups can be made without needing to mount the encrypted filesystem.

An EncFS acts as a translator for filenames and file data and should theoretically be able to pass through to any underlying filesystem. You could have an EncFS filesystem on a DVD, or a DVD mounted remotely and served through a Samba server and mount it locally with EncFS in order to view the encrypted data (your mileage may vary).

Basset::Object 1.04

Basset::Object 1.04

Basset::Object is a Perl module used to create objects. more>>
Basset::Object is a Perl module used to create objects.

This is my ultimate object creation toolset to date. It has roots in Mail::Bulkmail, Text::Flowchart, and the unreleased abstract object constructors that Ive tooled around with in the past.

If you want an object to be compatible with anything else Ive written, then subclass it off of here.

Of course, you dont have to use this to create subclasses, but youll run the risk of making something with an inconsistent interface vs. the rest of the system. Thatll confuse people and make them unhappy. So I recommend subclassing off of here to be consistent. Of course, you may not like these objects, but they do work well and are consistent. Consistency is very important in interface design, IMHO.

Graphics3D 6.09

Graphics3D 6.09

Graphics3D is a free, Open Source C++ library for game developers, researchers, and students. more>>
Graphics3D is a free, Open Source C++ library for game developers, researchers, and students. Graphics3D project is a base of robust and high performance code common to most 3D projects.
It is not a standalone graphics or game engine--it is the set of pieces you need to jumpstart your own engine or graphics project. The library has two parts: G3D for pure math, and GLG3D for interacting with hardware acceleration via OpenGL.
You can use G3D without GLG3D if you want to use another 3D API (like DirectX) or dont like the OpenGL abstraction.
G3D does not contain scene graph or GUI routines. Because of this, there is a lot of flexibility to how you structure your programs. The tradeoff is that you have to know more about 3D programming. G3D is intended for users who are already familiar with C++ and DirectX or OpenGL.
G3D does not draw widgets by itself. Several good G3D-compatible GUI libraries exist and we recommend using one with G3D if your project has extensive UI needs.
Enhancements:
- Rendering is now approximately 20% faster for applications using the high-level ArticulatedModel and IFSModel objects.
- A new Half-life-style interactive text console and World of Warcraft-style camera controller enable more sophisticated debugging and interaction.
- Other new features include querying texture dimensions from GLSL shaders, support for Mesa3D software rendering, and high-quality Bayer-to-RGB conversion for video frames.

Evil Greg Vs. Eight Year Olds 0.4.1

Evil Greg Vs. Eight Year Olds 0.4.1

Evil Greg battles hordes of 8 year old kids. more>>
Evil Greg Vs. Eight Year Olds was originally conceived when Nizzity asked EG how many 8 year old kids it would take to bring him down. EG responded that no amount would be enough because he would eat them as he went and would slowly grow in power.

He claims that eventually his heartburn would allow him to breath fire and they would fall before him. The game will test the merit of his claims. This is an accurate scientific simulation.

karss 0.31

karss 0.31

karss is an rss aggregator that displays multiple feeds in a single SuperKaramba theme, with entries sorted chronologically. more>>
karss is an rss aggregator that displays multiple feeds in a single SuperKaramba theme, with entries sorted chronologically. karss theme is based on multirss v1.2 by N7DR.

Differences include:

default dark background
larger font size (12 vs 10)
more entries at one time (25 vs 20)
reports "last updated" as time from last update
config option to use firefox instead of konqueror
rewritten and more managable innards

IMPORTANT INFO:

This theme depends on the PyXML package (for now). If you run it from command-line (superkaramba karss-03.skz), and get the following error:

> AttributeError: module object has no attribute DefaultHandler

Try installing the PyXML package. In kubuntu I believe this is called python-xml, so "sudo apt-get install python-xml". Please let me know if there are any other errors!

The first time you run karss, it will create a file feedlist.xml in a folder in your users superkaramba directory (usually ~/.superkaramba/karss) The format of the xml file should be fairly self-explanatory. Modify it accordingly to add or remove feeds.

Other features/improvements may be added later on.

Feedback/comments/screenshots appreciated!

ZProtocol2000 1.0

ZProtocol2000 1.0

ZProtocol2000 product allows one to view and control Kramer Audio and Video switchers. more>>
ZProtocol2000 product allows one to view and control Kramer Audio and Video switchers. It is using their Protocol2000 specification via a serial port, from within Zope.

You may need to switch DIP selectors on your Kramer switchers to use Protocol2000. Newer switchers are configured to use Protocol2000 by default. Please refer to your products documentation.

To use this software, first you need to install the PySerial software which you can find on http://sourceforge.net, then install the jaxml Python module which is downloadable from
http://www.librelogiciel.com/software/ then extract ZProtocol2000s tarball in Zopes Products directory then restart Zope. Add an instance of ZProtocol2000, fill in the form and youre done.

You also have to make sure that the user Zope is run as can open read and write to the serial port you plan to use. For recent Debian GNU/Linux distributions, put the zope user in the dialout
group and restart Zope.

This software was successfully tested with a Kramer VS-5X4 (five audio/video inputs to four audio/vdeo outputs) and a Kramer VS-601XLM (six audio/video inputs to one audio/video output), both used independantly. This software is also believed to be able to control several different switchers linked together in a serial daisy chain, to form a mega-siwtcher, but this hasnt been tested yet. Software configuration was Zope 2.6.1 with Python 2.1.3 on Debian GNU/Linux, and Mozilla 1.3 under GNU/Linux and MSWindows. As always, YMMV.
