Heirloom Development Tools package provides yacc, lex, m4, make, and SCCS... more>>
Heirloom Development Tools package provides yacc, lex, m4, make, and SCCS as portable derivatives of the utilities released by Sun as part of OpenSolaris. The OpenSolaris utilities were in turn derived from the original Unix versions, and are assumed be conforming implementations of the POSIX standard.

Software developed on original Unix systems has quite often used internals of yacc and lex. The tools in this package provide a convenient way to make such software compile on free Unix platforms such as Linux or BSD. In particular, they serve as a stable base for compiling other components of the Heirloom Project.

Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project 1.0

Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project 1.0

Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project is a top-level Eclipse project that contains tools for developing Java Web applications. more>>
Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project is a top-level Eclipse project that contains tools for developing Java Web applications.
The WTP project includes the following tools: source editors for HTML, Javascript, CSS, JSP, SQL, XML, DTD, XSD, and WSDL; graphical editors for XSD and WSDL; J2EE project natures, builders, and models and a J2EE navigator; a Web service wizard and explorer, and WS-I Test Tools; and database access and query tools and models.
Main features:
- Extension of the Eclipse value proposition The Eclipse Project has set a high standard for technical excellence, functional innovation and overall extensibility within the Java IDE domain. We intend to apply these same standards to the Web/J2EE application-tooling domain.
- Vendor ecosystem A major goal of this project is to support a vital application development tools market. Its exemplary functionality will be useful on its own but it will be designed from the start to be extensible so commercial vendors can use what this project delivers as a foundation for their own product innovation and development efficiency.
- Vendor neutrality Vendor neutrality will be at the core of this project. We aim to encourage Eclipse participation and drive Eclipse market acceptance by strengthening the long-term product value propositions of the widest possible range of application development vendors.
- Standards-based innovation This project will deliver an extensible, standards-based tooling foundation on which the widest possible range of vendors can create value-added development products for their customers and end-users. Where standards exist, we will adhere to them. At least, at first, where standards are emerging, we will wait for them to emerge; this can be re-evaluated later according to user needs and contributor availability. Where multiple technologies are widely used for a given functional need, we will attempt to support each, subject only to technical feasibility and our goal of providing the most capable and extensible foundation long term.
- Agile development Our aim is to incorporate into our planning process the innovations that arise once a project is underway, and the feedback from our user community on our achievements to date. We think an agile development and planning process, in which progress is incremental, near-term deliverables are focused, and long-term planning is flexible, will be the best way to achieve this.
- Inclusiveness & diversity We aim to assimilate the best ideas from the largest number of participants representing the needs of the widest range of end-users. So we will encourage organizations across a broad range of technical, market and geographical domains to participate in this project.

Rapid Application Development Library 2.8.3

Rapid Application Development Library 2.8.3

Rapid Application Development Library 2.8.3 is yet another excellent utility you should not miss. It is actually a C language library developed to abstract details of interprocess communications and more>>

Rapid Application Development Library 2.8.3 is yet another excellent utility you should not miss. It is actually a C language library developed to abstract details of interprocess communications and common linux/unix system facilities so that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It encourages developers (whether expert or novice) to use a proven paradigm of event-driven, asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events, timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor, radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well as multi-process applications.

Radlib greatly improves typical process performance through the use of shared memory buffers to avoid costly "malloc" and "free" library calls. These buffers are used for interprocess messages. radlib utilizes shared memory constructs to provide global message queue management and global "Queue Groups" for increased interprocess communications flexibility. All shared resources are semaphore protected to avoid issues with concurrent access.

In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS. It has been successfully deployed on linux, MacOSX and FreeBSD but there is no reason it would not build and run on any flavor of unix supporting System V IPC.

Specifically, radlib provides fast system buffers, a simple config file utility, events, doubly-linked lists, process logging through syslog, message queues, semaphores, shared memory utilities, timers, stacks, state machine utilities, a process framework, a process management utility to start/stop groups of processes, optional MySQL or PostgreSQL database API, a straightforward TCP/streams socket API, a UDP/datagram unicast/multicast/broadcast API, CRC and SHA utility APIs, and other assorted system utilities.

An example application template is provided in the distribution (see the "Example Application Template" link in the left column of this page). The template example serves two purposes: it demonstrates, through source code inspection, how a well constructed radlib process is implemented and it provides an example build environment with the capability for someone new to radlib to build and execute an example application "right out of the box".

Proprietary forms of radlib have been used in several mission-critical commercial applications with excellent results. It is light yet very powerful and efficient in real time. radlib is BSD-licensed (free to use in binary or source forms) and distributed as source to be built on the target platform. Build instructions are included in the distribution. See the file "COPYING" in the distribution for details concerning open source software and the BSD license.

Major Features:

  1. Includes SQLite3 support.
  2. Can be used on both 32 and 64 bit platforms with no special configuration required.
  3. Supports native development on the LinkSys NSLU2 as well as binary package support for radlib applications. See the README file for details.
  4. Includes a new message router daemon and API. This new paradigm simplifies interprocess communications substantially. See radmsgRouter.h for details.
  5. Includes a new example template which demonstrates multiprocess applications and the new message router API. See template/README in the distro for details.
  6. Built with libtool which generates shared libraries as well as static if supported on the build platform. Header files are now C++ friendly and radlib can be linked with C++ applications. LIST and LIST_ID were changed to RADLIST and RADLIST_ID to avoid problems with newer versions of MySQL.
  7. Includes SHA-1, SHA-256 and CRC16/32 utilities. See the header files "radsha.h" and "radcrc.h" for details.

Trac/Subversion Development JumpBox bundles Trac 0.10.4 and Subversion 1.3.1. more>>
Trac is an advanced tool for tracking software development projects. It provides a simple wiki, issue tracking system and tight integration with the Subversion revision control system. Trac/Subversion Development JumpBox bundles Trac 0.10.4 and Subversion 1.3.1.

WHY USE A JUMPBOX

Its Simple

Open Source applications are great. The applications are powerful, inexpensive and get the job done. But installing and configuring those applications can be a pain. A JumpBox delivers Open Source applications in a way that makes them simple to try, run and operate.

Its Quick

Actually downloading a JumpBox will take the most time. Once thats done, youre just a few minutes from having a working application that can serve multiple users.

Its Portable

A JumpBox collects the application, application dependancies and all application data into a single bundle that can easily be moved from one computer to another. This allows you to start running the application on your desktop and then as usage grows move it to a server without needing to reinstall or reconfigure. Plus with support for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux you can even move the application between platforms with little effort.

Its Safe

Manually installing Open Source applications not only takes a lot of time and effort, but when youre done its still left to you to figure out how to protect the data the application manages. With a JumpBox its easy to add automatic backups of the entire state of the application.

Its Virtual

A JumpBox application is a virtual appliance that bundles the open source application and all its runtime dependancies into a single package that runs on top of virtualization software from VMWare, Parallels or Xen. This means all JumpBox applications automatically gain the benefits of traditional server virtualization and can be dropped into existing virtualization infrastructure when available.

Its Comfortable

JumpBox provides a consistent runtime environment for all applications that we bundle. The applications may differ considerably, but their installation and operation will be familiar no matter which JumpBox you choose.

Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20070403-1644

Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20070403-1644

Whole Platform project is a technology for engineering the production of software. more>>
Whole Platform project is a technology for engineering the production of software.
We think that programming is an activity concerning the development of domain languages; so, we provide a platform for developing new languages, manipulating them using domain notations and transforming them to executable code.
Using the Whole Platform, the problem domain experts can work together with the programming experts for the development of software products.
The Whole Platform includes a modeling framework, a generative system, a family of languages, and domain editors integrated with the Eclipse platform.
The languages boundled with the Platform include popular languages such as Java and XML together with some new domain languages used for modeling the structure, the behavior, the persistence and the notations of a language.
Main features:
Architecture
- Extensible. The architecture provides an API for language extension. You can add/remove languages, notations, persistences and operations.
- Java frameworks and domain languages. All the expressive power of the Whole Platform is available as standard Java frameworks. Part of this expressive power is also available through a family of domain languages.
- Generative. The Whole modeling languages generate code on top of the Java frameworks. Together with the extensive use of wellknown Design Patterns in frameworks, the code generated feels hand written.
Metaprogramming
- Native support. Each Whole language can be used at template level and, if it has an executable semantics, it can be also used at base or host level.
- Staging support for visitors. Staging support is available for behavior defined using the visitors traversal framework.
- Mixing template languages. A single artifacts generator can use multiple template languages.
Persistence
- Stream based persistence. The Persistence syntax of a model is pluggable. Both stream based and model based persistence methods (kits) are supported. The streaming API looks like the building events produced by the Director participant of the Builder Design Pattern.
- Java code and XML default serializers. The standard persistence kits are based on a streaming API and are available in two flavor: Java and XML. The Java code, when executed, fires a stream of building events.
- Stream based behavior. Model behavior can be defined directly on top of the streaming API without prior building of the model.
- Multiple languages support. Programs written using multiple languages are supported even on a single source file.
- Versioning support. Facilities for versioning metamodels and migrate/import existing models are provided.
Editing
- GEF based editors for Eclipse. Model based visual editors for Eclipse can be added to a Whole language even using separate plugins.
- Rich graphical user interfaces. Multiple kinds of notations are supported including grammar layouts for text oriented languages, math layout for mathematical expressions, tree and graph layouts for diagram oriented languages.
- Multiple notations for a language. For each language multiple notations can be defined and deployed in a modular way. The notation can be changed while editing.
- Mixing notations. Multiple notations can be mixed even on a single editor view. This feature is especially useful for metaprogramming using concrete syntaxes for template languages.

Enveria IDE for Rapid Application Development 0.3

Enveria IDE for Rapid Application Development 0.3

Enveria IDE for Rapid Application Development is an intuitive platform for programming robust GUI (graphical user interface) sof more>>
Enveria IDE for Rapid Application Development is an intuitive platform for programming robust GUI (graphical user interface) software.

We have launched the Enveria RAD IDE as an open source application (https://sourceforge.net/projects/enveria). Previously, the Enveria IDE was utilized as an internal development tool at Kaizen Denki Inc. -- a Toronto-based software and web development house.

Enveria is free to use for non-commercial purposes under the GPL. Users who wish to use Envria in a commercial capacity should visit the Kaizen Denki home page at http://www.kaizendenki.com.

Major Features:

* An interface that maintains an look and feel that is intuitive for those familiar with IDE software, while user friendly enough for those who are not.

* Backed up by the power of the ubiquitous C programming language. We have chosen C because it is fast, stable, powerful, portable and has a long history of use in computing. An additional bonus for us was that the API for GTK+ (the widget set we use) uses C natively.

* Our use of GTK+ allows Enveria to tap into a well-supported widget set that is available for all major desktop operating systems. On its own, GTK+ is easy to use but with Enveria it is even easier. While Enveria RAD IDE can be an interface builder for GTK+/C programs (like Glade), its power is its capabilities as a complete development tool.

* Enveria can produce code without compiling for those who wish to enhance their applications manually prior to building. Enveria programs are optimized for Make/GCC, which is a widely used combination for C development on many platforms.

Programming languages, libraries, databases, and frameworks used to develop Enveria include:

* C
* MySQL
* SQLite
* GTK+ 2

Currently Linux is the main supported platform for Enveria RAD IDE.

At the same time, we are in the process of evaluating other target operating systems including: Mac OS X, Minix 3, BSD and others.
