cdServer 0.8

cdServer 0.8

cdServer is a simple HTTP server based on the standard Python library module SimpleHTTPServer. more>>
cdServer is a simple HTTP server based on the standard Python library module SimpleHTTPServer. cdServer is designed to serve (static) contents off a CD-ROM. cdServer provides a simple interface for special (interactive) functions implemented in an external application program, e.g. search functions for a database.
The distribution archive for cdServer includes a demo application (search for a string in a fortune file) as well as help and manual files. cdServer is licensed LGPL and the demo application was deliberately put into the public domain to provide a good starting point for your applications.
The demo is designed to start automatically on Windows machines if burned onto a CD-ROM (requires a minimum Python installation for Windows in the file system of the demo directory tree, see documentation for details).
The documentation is part of what you see when you are running the demo application. What you dont see here on this website are additional functions which are only visible when when running cdServer (check the source of the documentation for HTML comments in the left side navigation bar if you are curious).
Enhancements:
ACLs for limiting access to the server introduced
- new option -a: add host to list of allowed_hosts
- new option -n: add network to list of allowed_networks
- code for checking the host IP against a list of allowed hosts/networks added (taken from moosicWebGUI, originally contributed by Forest Bond)
New option -d: switch on debug mode
- in debug mode errors while importing cdApp are not caught
- variable cdApp.debug is set after import

KCdSpeed 0.8

KCdSpeed 0.8

KCDSpeed is a little applet for K Desktop Environments panel. more>>
KCdSpeed is a little applet for K Desktop Environments desktop panel Kicker. I wrote it because I needed quick and handy tool for changing CD-ROM speed.
Main features:
- selecting CD-ROM speed
- eject & close CD-ROM tray
- mount & unmount disc
Installation:
The `configure shell script attempts to guess correct values for various system-dependent variables used during compilation.
It uses those values to create a `Makefile in each directory of the package. It may also create one or more `.h files containing system-dependent definitions.
Finally, it creates a shell script `config.status that you can run in the future to recreate the current configuration, a file `config.cache that saves the results of its tests to speed up reconfiguring, and a file `config.log containing compiler output (useful mainly for debugging `configure).
If you need to do unusual things to compile the package, please try to figure out how `configure could check whether to do them, and mail diffs or instructions to the address given in the `README so they can be considered for the next release.
If at some point `config.cache contains results you dont want to keep, you may remove or edit it.
The file `configure.in is used to create `configure by a program called `autoconf. You only need `configure.in if you want to change it or regenerate `configure using a newer version of `autoconf.
The simplest way to compile this package is:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system.
If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.
Running `configure takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.
Enhancements:
- No new functionality.
- Re-created the project, made compilable under newer Linux kernels.
- Minor changes in coding-style and indenting, renamed classes.

I just made this system monitor for myself, because didnt find any suitable for my needs.

It looks like Liquid Weather Plus, and has all the important info about the system. For the temperatures lm_sensors have to be installed. The theme needs to be hand adjusted to fit Your system.

(Parts were taken from Netmamba, Zuzu-Sysmon, Talv monitor, The System Monitor and others.)

mod_murka 0.8

mod_murka 0.8

mod_murka creates a convenient apache, xml, xsl based web publishing environment. more>>
mod_murka creates a convenient apache, xml, xsl based web publishing environment. It manages caching of static html pages and integrates nicely with Tomcat for dynamic pages to provide a flexible, high performance MVC development framework.

How does it work?

Murka is an apache module (mod_murka). It performs XML and XSL processing for both static and dynamic pages.

For static pages it intercepts an http request at a very early stage of apache request processing and if the requested file has .html type performs the following steps:

1. Checks if file exists. If it exists returns control to standard apache request processing.
2. If the file does not exist looks for xml file in the same directory and with the same name (but with .xml extension). For example if the request file had a name test.html the xml file name would be test.xml.
3. Processes the xml file to find the location of the corresponding xsl stylesheet.
4. Calls Xalan XSLT engine with found xml and xsl files as parameters to produce an html file.
5. Saves html file at the requested location (test.html in the sample case).
6. Returns control to apache

Next time when the same html file is requested it would exist as a plain html and no Murka processing would be necessary. The above procedure results in implicit html cache building for all requested html files. If any of the xml data files or presentation stylesheet xsl files changes, one just needs to delete the corresponding html file (clear cache) and Murka would build the updated html file automatically. Also Murka can automatically regenerate html files if xml data has been changed.

For dynamic pages it does a quick XML/XSL transformation of the XML content generated by java application and sends to a browser the resulting HTML page. That makes a full separation of business and presentation logic where java application (business logic) and presentation (XSL) can be developed by different people with practically no overlap and provides a nice alternative to jsps. The major advantage of this approach compared to doing XSL transformations in java is a huge performance gain due to much faster XSLT processing in C.

Dynamic stylesheet linking

One of the most important features of Murka is its ability to make a rule based association of a single xml and xsl file with multiple html files or a single xml file with multiple style sheets and multiple html files. Both scenarios are very common in web development. The first one occurs when there is some xml data and it should be displayed in a standard way but cached as separate html files for different subsets of xml data.

A standard example for a content publishing site would be multi page articles: it is natural to store the text of an article in a single xml file but each page should be cached as a separate html file. The second scenario is when the same content should be displayed in different styles, for example a page with a printable version of an article. To deal with both cases Murka uses a single rule: the dash (-) in a file name has a special meaning. If the file name in a URL contains dash Murka adds to steps 2 and 3 from the above list the following additional logic:

1. It takes the part of the file name before - and looks for an xml file with that name. If the xml file exists it uses this xml file, otherwise it tries the full name with - (so that to support meaningless - just as part of the filename).
2. It first looks for a stylesheet the name of which combines the name it finds in the xml file and the second (after -) part of the file name in the URL. It uses this stylesheet if it finds it, otherwise it uses the "default" stylesheet defined in the xml file.

In both cases the value of the "after-dash" part of the file name is assigned to a special global variable with a name Sys_NamePar that is passed to the stylesheet and can be used there.

All that might sound complicated but it really is not. Murka comes with a fully functional example which shows how it works and explains everything in detail.

Simba is file mirroring tool that allows a great deal of control over the mirrored content. more>>
Simba is file mirroring tool that allows a great deal of control over the mirrored content and, most importantly, more control over reporting. Simba project allows you to create Web pages with mirror status, RSS news feeds, Google sitemaps, and more.
There are many institution who offer mirroring services to the community. Most of them are using shell scripts to synchronize the content with the master servers. This approach has some major limitations:
- dificult maintainance
- no usefull reports
- no data presented to the final user
- and more
Simba, was created to get more control over the mirrored content and (the most important part) more control over the reports you can made using the mirrored content data.
Using simba, you can create web pages with mirrors status, rss news feeds, google sitemaps and, if you know some perl programming, everything you need and you think is useful for you and your company.
This website is dedicated to Simba. Here you will find usefull information about this software and usefull resources.
Enhancements:
- The max_files parameter was removed since it was a little confusing.
- max_transfered and max_deleted paramters have been added to GenHTML plugin.
- Also, MaxTransfered, MaxDeleted, and MaxLimits template parameters were added.
- Two new plugins were added: CheckLastUpdate (a small but useful plugin which gives you a list of outdated mirrors) and Metalink (a plugin which generates metalinks with the new content).
- The website was updated to reflect the new plugins and parameters.
