Transcend 0.3

Transcend 0.3

Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D shooter. more>>
Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D shooter. The graphics are geometrical, and the pace is sometimes frenzied.

Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape to another, produces striking displays.

Combining these dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations makes each play through a Transcend level visually different from the last. The second novel feature is Transcends musical power-up system.

As you play through a level, you are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a unique piece of music. Transcend merges video games with pure art---it can be viewed either as a game or as a multimedia sculpture.

Though I first read it after developing Transcend, the Scratchware Manifesto captures the spirit that motivated me to develop a game.

SimpleAIM

SimpleAIM

A miniature console based AIM client written in pure Java. more>>
A miniature console based AIM client written in pure Java. It implements the TOC protocol and provides a solid framework for understanding and writing your own IM clients or bots. Project SimpleAIM is an open source development project aimed at providing platform independence and interoperability in the realm of instant messaging services.

This document describes the TOC protocol. The protocol is built on TCP. Framing is done by SFLAP, described at the bottom of this document. Inside each
SFLAP frame is a TOC command.

The TOC protocol is ASCII based, and special attention must be placed argument separation. The separator and the rules of separation are different for messages inbound
to TOC and outbound to the client. The rules of separation are described in sections below.

The TOC server is built mainly to service the TIC and TiK clients. Since the TIC client is a Java applet, and downloadable, TOC will NOT support multiple TOC protocol versions at the same time. Therefore, TiK users will be forced to upgrade if the protocol version changes.
TOC sends down the protocol version it expects the client to speak and understand. Note, the protocol version is a string.

uschedule 0.7.1

uschedule 0.7.1

uschedule is a scheduling service. more>>
uschedule is a scheduling service.

uschedule is not cron and uschedule is not at - it does offer similar functionality, but is not intended to be a drop-in replacement. It works differently. It’s designed to be different.

The uschedule package contains a number of tools, described below, to manage the scheduling of jobs. The uscheduled daemon is run by supervise.

A registered command defines what to run. A command may simply call a script or program somewhat, but may also be a complicated shell script. A command has an unique identifier (often simply called Job-ID or ID).

A uscheduled job defines when to run a command.

jPdfCalendar 0.8.0

jPdfCalendar 0.8.0

jPdfCalendar is a tool which allows you to create printable calendar pages as a PDF document from any of your images. more>>
jPdfCalendar project allows you to create printable calendar pages as a PDF document from any of your images. The iText library is used to create the PDF itself.
You can add your own "special days" for each month, customize colors, fonts, borders etc.
To create calendar file, you should prepare xml file which structure is described in dtd file. The dtd structure also is described in graphical manner in image file. These information can be found in dtd folder.
To create a sample, use bin/createme.sh script. This script will create sample/calendar_public_en_2007.pdf file according to sample/calendar_public_en.xml project and with images from sample/pictures folder.
Requirements
You need Java 1.5 (or higher) JRE in your OS.
This tool uses iText library (http://www.lowagie.com/iText/) to manipulate of PDFs.
Well-known problem
If image is too large, especially if a hight of image large when page hight, the auto scaling works not properly (the day table is pulled out on the next page). In this case it is necessary to use "scale" tag and set scale factor manually.
Additional tool
Also here is some additional tool, PdfImageRipper. This tool has been created to extract (rip) images from PDF files.
It uses iText functionality to do it and you can think about it as Front-End-Tool. To use this tool, get bin/imgrip.sh script.
Enhancements:
- Moon phases are now displayed in the days table.
- The first day of week is now dependent on the locale, but can be changed in XML.

ipidscan project consists in a portscanner using the ip.id method.
A portscanner using the ip.id method described by antirez on bugtraq on dec 15 1998. First public port scanner (that Im aware of) was published on bugtraq on dec 3 1999. This program was made public as a response to that on dec 4 1999.
The scanner does not directly contact the target host and is therefore practically untracable.
Main features:
- Default is to send null packets for echo:ing, some firewalls block them. Override with -F
- Lots of options. All nice.
- Use -e instead of -o 256 if silent host is a windows box
- Works on big and little endian boxen

LibXDiff 0.23

LibXDiff 0.23

LibXDiff is designed as a library which implements basic and yet complete functionalities to create file differences/patches to both binary and text files. more>>

LibXDiff 0.23 is designed as a library which implements basic and yet complete functionalities to create file differences/patches to both binary and text files. The library uses memory files as file abstraction to achieve both performance and portability. For binary files, LibXDiff implements both (with some modification) the algorithm described in File System Support for Delta Compression by Joshua P. MacDonald, and the algorithm described in Fingerprinting By Random Polynomials by Michael O. Rabin.

While for text files it follows directives described in An O(ND) Difference Algorithm and Its Variations by Eugene W. Myers. Memory files used by the library are basically a collection of buffers that store the file content. There are two different requirements for memory files when passed to diff/patch functions. Text files for diff/patch functions require that a single line do not have to spawn across two different memory file blocks. Binary diff/patch functions require memory files to be compact. A compact memory files is a file whose content is stored inside a single block.

Major Features:

  1. Functionalities inside the library are available to satisfy these rules. Using the XDL_MMF_ATOMIC memory file flag it is possible to make writes to not split the written record across different blocks, while the functions xdl_mmfile_iscompact() , xdl_mmfile_compact() and xdl_mmfile_writeallocate() are usefull to test if the file is compact and to create a compacted version of the file itself.
  2. The text file differential output uses the raw unified output format, by omitting the file header since the result is always relative to a single compare operation (between two files).
  3. The output format of the binary patch file is proprietary (and binary) and it is basically a collection of copy and insert commands, like described inside the MacDonald paper.
  4. The library is compatible with almost every Unix implementation (configure script) and it is also compatible with Windows through custom (nmake) make files. Examples are available inside the test subdirectory of the distribution tarball that show how to use the library. Also, inside the same subdirectory, a regression test in available that tests the library with random data by requiring a diff followed by a patch and comparing results. Regression tests ran successfully for days on my Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD and Windows boxes, and this makes you believe that the library itself is completely ready for production (despite the version number).
Enhancements: Improved performance a in few corner case patterns and in cases where there is a huge input file. Some code cleanup.

Roguedump 1.0

Roguedump 1.0

Roguedump project is a tool for dumping the high score files from the rogue game. more>>
Roguedump project is a tool for dumping the high score files from the rogue game.

Roguedump decrypts and dumps the high score file used by the classic game rogue.

It makes this score data available to scripts by avoiding the rogue programs more-like interactive pager.

Roguedump works on high score files produced by "rogue985": a version of rogue described in its README as "an updated version of rogue 5.3-clone". This seems to be the same version of rogue that is available on many Free UNIX systems, such as NetBSD and Debian GNU/Linux.

Since roguedump is a derivative of the above rogue source, it bears the same restrictions on copying.

To build:

# gcc -O2 -Wall -o roguedump roguedump.c

AsmFile 0.9.15

AsmFile 0.9.15

AsmFile is a small and fast file manager written in assembler. more>>
AsmFile is a small and fast file manager written in assembler.

AsmFile project uses a two pane interface like "mc" and other file managers. AsmFile runs in a console or a terminal window.

Assembly has been ignored by much of the Unix/Linux community and is almost never found in desktop applications. Some of the reasons for this are historical and related to portability. Other reasons include negative images of assembly and lack of tools. Today a small niche exists for assembly on the desktop. This will be explored here along with the supporting tools.

The resources section provides links to more information and places to discuss assembler topics. Of special interest to the author is a section of predictions and history. A email list for programmers interested in Desktop assembly is described in the resources section.

The AsmIDE family of programs are currently underdevelopment and some have reached a useful state.
