Debian Live 20070729

Debian Live 20070729

Debian Live is a Debian SID Live CD. more>>
Debian Live is a Debian SID Live CD.

The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system is called Debian GNU/Linux, or simply Debian for short. Debian systems currently use the Linux kernel. Linux is a completely free piece of software started by Linus Torvalds and supported by thousands of programmers worldwide.

Of course, the thing that people want is application software: programs to help them get what they want to do done, from editing documents to running a business to playing games to writing more software. Debian comes with over 8000 packages (precompiled software that is bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine) - all of it free. Its a bit like a tower.

At the base is the kernel. On top of that are all the basic tools. Next is all the software that you run on the computer. At the top of the tower is Debian -- carefully organizing and fitting everything so it all works together.

NeWBIE LiveCD 0.2

NeWBIE LiveCD 0.2

NeWBIE LiveCD is a NetBSD based distro geared towards the desktop user. more>>
NeWBIE LiveCD is a NetBSD based distro geared towards the desktop user.
It includes software for Web browsing, chatting, multimedia, and document editing.
This acronym NeWBIE is pronounced just like the word "newbie" and stands for (Ne)tBSD (W)are (B)urned (I)n (E)conomy.
Newbie is a NetBSD (v. 3.0) live CD similar in spirit to the well-known FreeSBIE live CD. Newbie currently caters to the desktop-user (i.e. with applications for web browsing, chat, multimedia, document editing, etc) but will also serve as a core for creating a NetBSD version of Arudius (see below) - a network security auditing tool.
Why based on NetBSD? Because contrary to the popular opinion, NetBSD is not some obscure *BSD flavor that is only good for powering your toaster, but is a powerful, flexible and highly portable operating system.
In many aspects it is better than its more famous cousins. Did you know that NetBSD recently broke the speed record for network data transfer? And what about speed and scalability?
Enhancements:
- This release cleans up the boot process and adds a GUI tool for easy setup of the modem/DSL connection.
- More productivity tools are included (e.g. a file manager, spreadsheet, Samba, wireless AP detection, sniffer, network analysis, etc.).

Firefox LiveCD is LiveCD similar to LiveKiosk, but with original binary version of Mozilla Firefox. No changes were done to user interface and everything is set to Firefox defaults.

LiveFirefox is intended for people who want to have custom Firefox based LiveCD, but find LiveKiosk unsuitable for this purpose. You can find customization instructions in usersettings/ directory on CD.

If you are here because you are looking for locked-down kiosk we recommend you take a look at LiveKiosk (kiosk with user interface) and LiveInfo (full screenkiosk without interface).

TorK project offers a CD that allows you to use TorK on any computer.

This is a so-called LiveCD. You put it in the CD-Rom drive, turn on your computer and within a few minutes you will be using a Linux system with TorK and Tor running on it. The CD works without installing anything on the computer you use it on.

The CD is still experimental and not feature complete. It may not even be fully secure yet.

X-Evian LiveCD 2.0-prebeta

X-Evian LiveCD 2.0-prebeta

X-Evian is a complete Debian GNU/Linux operating system compilation that comes with 300Mb of copyleft material. more>>
X-evian is a Live-CD, a complete operating system which installs automatically from the CD-Rom in RAM memory by means of a process of automatic hardware detection.

This makes it possible to "parasite" a PC without leaving any trace?without touching the hard disk and without interfering with the operating system or the files already installed on the PC. X-evian also includes a utility for installing the contents of the CD automatically onto the hard disk (without having to erase Windows).

Debian GNU/Linux is much more than an operating system: it is an entire system of program distribution, installation and management built around the Linux kernel (the core of the operating system). Debian GNU/Linux consists of about 10,000 different programs, nearly all of which are free software, bundled and classified for integrated operation.

X-evian is a selection and compilation which has been carefully chosen and configured for activist users, for liberated cultural, technological and social production. But Debian is much more than "a complete operating system and an infinite number of programs".

Debian is the largest independent free software community on the Net and one of the most firmly established and stable techno-political projects in cyberspace. X-evian is an easy preconfigured way of introducing the user to the best of the resources of this Debian.

The power of digital recombination, reproduction and transmission has enabled the cognitariat (the workers of the immaterial production networks) to organise its own production transversally. But this transverse self-organisation would not have been possible without a format that would protect the collective work.

This is copyleft. "Copyleft uses copyright law, but flips it over to serve the opposite of its usual purpose: instead of a means of privatizing software, it becomes a means of keeping software free. The central idea of copyleft is that we give everyone permission to run the program, copy the program, modify the program, and distribute modified versions?but not permission to add restrictions of their own.? Stallman, R. (http://www.gnu.org/gnu/thegnuproject.html).

Copyleft hacks into the legal system of copyright to champion the freedom of knowledges and techniques. X-evian is the product of the recombination, copying and transformation of these knowledges. X-evian can therefore be freely copied, distributed, modified, recombined and used (provided any modification is also free).

But its not only the software that can be copylefted: the design, images, texts, technical documents, music and videos included in X-evian are also free. X-evian therefore forms part of the cycles of immaterial production, liberated from the info-capitalist restriction on the circulation of knowledges and techniques, and its devices of production and consumption (factories, companies, shopping centres, etc.).

Liberated immaterial production does not operate along the lines of the development-production-sale-consumption sequence, but rather follows interactive cycles of development-use-development, looped in backfed hypercycles of projects, groups and individuals (X-evian, metabolik, hacklabs, sindominio, Debian, Linux, etc...).

X-evian is therefore also a community of development and experimentation from free software towards a different technological, cultural and social model, in which production and use merge in cooperative horizontal communities working outside market interfaces, innovation restricted by patents and commercial interests and the consumerist use of technology.

This edition of X-evian seeks to explicitly support copyleft philosophy, motivations and practices, and therefore includes an organised selection of copyleft materials (chats, texts, manuals, etc.).

Debian Operating System is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system is called Debian GNU/Linux, or simply Debian for short. Debian systems currently use the Linux kernel.
Linux is a completely free piece of software started by Linus Torvalds and supported by thousands of programmers worldwide. Next is all the software that you run on the computer. At the top of the tower is Debian -- carefully organizing and fitting everything so it all works together.
Among versions of Linux, Debian is fairly unique, unlike most distributions it isnt backed by any for profit venture and instead is an all volunteer organization. There is no for profit company, or business plan behind Debian, it is a wide ranging project along the lines of GNU. Debian also provides the basis for a number of other Linux distributions, such as Lindows, Xandros, Libranet, and Knoppix.
The linchpin of Debian is a combination package management system and distribution network called forth by the mighty apt-get command. What makes this network so exceptional is that the dpkg-deb files which make up Debian packages contain information on their underlying dependencies so installing a package from the Debian network will call up all of its dependent packages.
As an example, installing a KDE application would make sure that KDE, X windows, and everything underneath was already installed on the system, and if the prerequisite packages werent already installed than the packages would automatically be downloaded and installed from the Debian network.
Enhancements:
- The Debian project has updated the stable distribution Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (codename Sarge). This update mainly adds security updates to the stable release, along with a few corrections to serious problems. In preparation for the upcoming release of Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (codename Etch), Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 will be moved to the oldstable part of the archive. Users who would like to continue using Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 are advised to update their sources.list network sources to refer to sarge instead of stable. Please note that this update does not constitute a new version of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 but only updates some of the packages included.

The Real-Time Application Interface is a hard real-time extension to the Linux kernel. more>>
The Real-Time Application Interface is a hard real-time extension to the Linux kernel, contributed in accordance with the Free Software guidelines.
It provides the features of an industrial-grade RTOS, seamlessly accessible from the powerful and sophisticated GNU/Linux environment.
The bootable CD-ROM provided on this website allows you to determine whether your systems hardware is capable of being used as a hard real-time system.
Furthermore, this website provides information about the real-time performance of various systems, which might help you when buying hardware for building hard real-time systems.
The LiveCD is based on RTAI (Realtime Application Interface) and provides easy-to-use menus that guide users through running the test suite and submitting the results and system configuration information to an Internet database.
Enhancements:
- Fixed issue where the per-loop max and min latency were stored in the database instead of the overall max and min latency... Added support for Gigabit Ethernet (requested by Phil Nitschke)
- Reduced ISO size to 8MB

Pentoo is a Linux LiveCD, it means that you can boot a linux environment on any x86 based PC.
It is like KNOPPIX except that Pentoo is based on the Gentoo distribution and is oriented penetration testing. You can view the list of all available tools here .
Well, I know there is already many liveCD that provide penetration testing and so on, but they dont suit my needs. In fact, during a pen-test lab, I found the other LiveCD so slow...
I like Gnome and Gentoo so I decided to make my own distro and there it is.
Main features:
- Nessus, Metasploit and Fingerprints db upgradable ! You can put them in RAM or on a usb stick.
- You can save the root directory to a usbstick and backup all your preferences, etc.
- It is faster : based on the Gentoo distribution, all the code as been optimized. I choosed to optimize the code for pentium3 cpu as I think that intel based cpu are more used than AMDs ones. Of course, this will not break the compatibility with AMD proc, it will just run faster on pentium-3 or 4 CPUs.
- Analyser : Dsniff, Ethereal, Ettercap, Ntop, ...
- Bluetooth : BlueSniff, Redfang, ...
- Cracker / Bruteforce : Hydra, Ldapenum, John the ripper, chntpw, ...
- Fingerprinter : Amap, xprobe, smtpmap, p0f2, ...
- Forging / Spoofing : Arpspoof, Hunt, Packit, ...
- Pen-Test / MITM : Metasploit, Raccess, Cisco-Torch, WebMitm, ...
- Proxy : HttPush, Paros Proxy, ...
- Scanner : Nessus, Nmap, Nikto, Cheops, ...
- Wireless : Kismet, Airsnort, Wellenreiter, ...
