Dave Gnukem 0.56

Dave Gnukem 0.56

Dave Gnukem is a 2D scrolling platform shooter. more>>
Dave Gnukem is a 2D scrolling platform shooter. It is inspired by and similar to Duke Nukem 1, one of my all-time favourite games. It currently runs on Windows, Linux and BeOS.

Although this is by no means a finished game, it is playable. You can walk, jump, shoot baddies, collect stuff, die, teleport, open doors, use lifts, open boxes etc. There is also a level editor.

I started writing this back in 1995 in my first year at university (actually it goes back longer than that, before that there was a pascal/assembly version), and work on it intermittently whenever I get time and inspiration.

It was originally a DOS-based 16 color EGA game; I then converted it to Linux/GGI, then I did a DirectX-based Windows port, and then I converted it to SDL. The code is a bit messy due to its colourful history, Im slowly trying to clean it up.

Let me know if you would like to help with this project; comments, code, graphics, sound and levels are all very welcome.

The Worlds Best Band Name Generator produces randomly generated band names. more>>
The Worlds Best Band Name Generator produces randomly generated band names.

The Worlds Best Band Name Generator can generate band names like "Ungratefully Swallowed" and "The Bridgeheads" and "Throwaway Deceptiveness".

The visitor can refresh the names dynamically without refreshing the page by using a small AJAX script.

The generator uses combinations of nouns, adjectives, and adverbs that lend themselves well to band name creation, so most of the names actually sound realistic.

The script is easy to install and modify.

You can download the Worlds Best Band Name Generator for FREE to add to your own web site.

If you really like the Words Best Band Name Generator, please link to this page so other people can find it.

DateTime::Format::Builder 0.7807

DateTime::Format::Builder 0.7807

DateTime::Format::Builder is a Perl module to create datetime parser classes and objects.

SYNOPSIS

package DateTime::Format::Brief;
our $VERSION = 0.07;
use DateTime::Format::Builder
(
parsers => {
parse_datetime => [
{
regex => qr/^(d{4})(dd)(dd)(dd)(dd)(dd)$/,
params => [qw( year month day hour minute second )],
},
{
regex => qr/^(d{4})(dd)(dd)$/,
params => [qw( year month day )],
},
],
}
);

DateTime::Format::Builder creates DateTime parsers. Many string formats of dates and times are simple and just require a basic regular expression to extract the relevant information. Builder provides a simple way to do this without writing reams of structural code.

Builder provides a number of methods, most of which youll never need, or at least rarely need. Theyre provided more for exposing of the modules innards to any subclasses, or for when you need to do something slightly beyond what I expected.

Thesaurus 0.23

Thesaurus 0.23

Thesaurus is a Perl module that maintains lists of associated items.

SYNOPSIS

use Thesaurus;

my $th = Thesaurus->new( -files => [ file1, file2 ],
-ignore_case => 1 );

@words = $th->find(vegan);

%words = $th->find( Faye );

foreach $word ( @{ $words{Faye} } )
{
#something ...
}

$th->add_file( file1, file2 );

$th->add( [ tofu, mock duck ] );

$th->delete( meat, vivisection );

Thesaurus is a module that allows you to create lists of related things. It was created in order to facilitate searches of a database of Chinese names in Anglicized form. Because there are various schemes to create phonetic representations of Chinese words, the following can all represent the same Chinese character:

Woo
Wu
Ng

Thesaurus can be used for anything that fits into a scalar by using the new method with no parameters and then calling the add method to add data.
Thesaurus also acts as the parent class to several child classes which implement various forms of persistence for the data structure. This module can be used on its own to instantiate an object that lives for the life of its scope.

Template::Tutorial are template toolkit tutorials.

This section includes tutorials on using the Template Toolkit. Subjects currently include an general overview of the Template Toolkit, showing users how to get quickly up to speed building web content, and a tutorial on generating and using data files, with particular reference to XML.

Template::Tutorial::Web

Generating Web Content Using the Template Toolkit

This tutorial provides an introduction to the Template Toolkit and a "quick start" guide to getting up to speed. Its primarily focus is on using the Template Toolkit to build web content and it covers 4 basic areas: using tpage and ttree; using the Template.pm module in CGI scripts; writing Apache/mod_perl handlers; and extending the toolkit by writing plugins.

Template::Tutorial::Datafile

Creating Data Output Files Using the Template Toolkit

This tutorial gives an overview of the Template Toolkit, showing in particular how to use it to read and write data files in various different formats and styles. It was written by Dave Cross and first appeared as a lead article at http://www.perl.com/ earlier in the year (2001).

SSH with Keys HOWTO is a document which shows how to use SSH with keys, passphrases, and ssh-agent.

For those of you who have been using SSH for a while, you will probably understand its advantages over the previous telnet style applications such as telnet and remote shell.

Although SSH with keys has always been there, not many people know what it is about, and how you can utilize its strenghts to make your life as a system administrator a bit more easy.

mach allows you to set up clean build roots from scratch for any distribution or distribution variation supported. In this clean build root you can then easily generate pristine packages. mach is written in python.

Currently, mach supports rpm-based distributions that can work with apt for rpm - hopefully this will be extended to other types of package manager as well.

mach is used for generating GStreamer packages (about 60 of them for each distribution) and Fedora packages. I also use it personally for the Dave/Dina project.

Template::Plugin::XML::DOM 2.16

Template::Plugin::XML::DOM 2.16

Template::Plugin::XML::DOM is a plugin interface to XML::DOM. more>>
Template::Plugin::XML::DOM is a plugin interface to XML::DOM.

SYNOPSIS

# load plugin
[% USE dom = XML.DOM %]

# also provide XML::Parser options
[% USE dom = XML.DOM(ProtocolEncoding = ISO-8859-1) %]

# parse an XML file
[% doc = dom.parse(filename) %]
[% doc = dom.parse(file = filename) %]

# parse XML text
[% doc = dom.parse(xmltext) %]
[% doc = dom.parse(text = xmltext) %]

# call any XML::DOM methods on document/element nodes
[% FOREACH node = doc.getElementsByTagName(report) %]
* [% node.getAttribute(title) %] # or [% node.title %]
[% END %]

# define VIEW to present node(s)
[% VIEW report notfound=xmlstring %]
# handler block for a ... element
[% BLOCK report %]
[% item.content(view) %]
[% END %]

# handler block for a ... element
[% BLOCK section %]
< h1 >[% item.title %]< /h1 >
[% item.content(view) %]
[% END %]

# default template block converts item to string
[% BLOCK xmlstring; item.toString; END %]

# block to generate simple text
[% BLOCK text; item; END %]
[% END %]

# now present node (and children) via view
[% report.print(node) %]

# or print node content via view
[% node.content(report) %]

# following methods are soon to be deprecated in favour of views
[% node.toTemplate %]
[% node.childrenToTemplate %]

This is a Template Toolkit plugin interfacing to the XML::DOM module. The plugin loads the XML::DOM module and creates an XML::DOM::Parser object which is stored internally. The parse() method can then be called on the plugin to parse an XML stream into a DOM document.

[% USE dom = XML.DOM %]
[% doc = dom.parse(/tmp/myxmlfile) %]

The XML::DOM plugin object (i.e. dom in these examples) acts as a sentinel for the documents it creates (doc and any others). When the plugin object goes out of scope at the end of the current template, it will automatically call dispose() on any documents that it has created. Note that if you dispose of the the plugin object before the end of the block (i.e. by assigning a new value to the dom variable) then the documents will also be disposed at that point and should not be used thereafter.

[% USE dom = XML.DOM %]
[% doc = dom.parse(/tmp/myfile) %]
[% dom = new value %] # releases XML.DOM plugin and calls
# dispose() on doc, so dont use it!

The plugin constructor will also accept configuration options destined for the XML::Parser object:

[% USE dom = XML.DOM(ProtocolEncoding = ISO-8859-1) %]
