Class::DataStore 0.07

Class::DataStore 0.07

Class::DataStore is a Perl module for generic OO data storage/retrieval. more>>
Class::DataStore is a Perl module for generic OO data storage/retrieval.

SYNOPSIS

my %values = ( one => 1, two => 2 );
my $store = Class::DataStore->new( %values );

# using get/set methods
$store->set( three, 3 );
my $three = $store->get( three );

# using AUTOLOAD method
$store->four( 4 );
my $four = $store->four;
my @four = $store->four; # returns a list

my $exists = $store->exists( three ); # $exists = 1
my $data_hashref = $store->dump;
$store->clear;

Class::DataStore implements a simple storage system for object data. This data can be accessed via get/set methods and AUTOLOAD. AUTOLOAD calls are not added to the symbol table, so using get/set will be faster. Using AUTOLOAD also means that you will not be able to store data with a key that is already used by a instance method, such as "get" or "exists".
This module was written originally as part of a website framework that was used for the Democratic National Committee website in 2004. Some of the implementations here, such as get() optionally returning a list if called in array context, reflect the way this module was originally used for building web applications.

Class::DataStore is most useful when subclassed. To preserve the AUTOLOAD functionality, be sure to add the following when setting up the subclass:

use base Class::DataStore;
*AUTOLOAD = &Class::DataStore::AUTOLOAD;
This module is also a useful add-on for modules that need quick and simple data storage, e.g. to store configuration data:
$self->{_config} = Class::Datastore->new( $config_data );
sub config { return $_[0]->{_config}; }
my $server = $self->config->server;
my $sender = $self->config->get( sender );

Twisted Storage 0.1.5

Twisted Storage 0.1.5

Twisted Storage is an application that will take your data and manage it for you, just like a file system. more>>
Twisted Storage is an application that will take your data and manage it for you, just like a file system. But Twisted Storage goes way beyond what a normal file system does.
What types of "objects" are stored in Twisted Storage : just regular files. The data stored in the system is expected to be fixed content, meaning it doesnt change at all. If you read the data back, change it, and store it, it is considered a different file. There are plenty of examples of fixed content data : emails you received, movies or mp3 files you made or own, documents you wrote, etc. In fact it is estimated that 80% of the data you have on your computer is fixed, reference data.
Your Twisted Storage system can start out small - a single computer with a few disk drives. When you need more storage you can add more disk drives and more computers. But it has been designed to store petabytes worth of data without requiring any special hardware. For example storing a petabyte worth of data, using the biggest disk drives available today (500 GB), would require 2000 disk drives. To overcome the need of special hardware, Twisted Storage is a scalable, distributed system using ordinary commodity computers. Even so that petabyte of data would require 500 computers networked together and that requires special handling.
Twisted Storage has a few features you wont find in any file system. For example once a file is added to the Twisted Storage repository it can be written in multiple locations simultaneously. The system has been designed to be compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley Act: when an object is added to the repository you can no longer delete it and the integrity of the contents are guaranteed. In addition any access to the object is recorded.
Main features:
Scalable to thousands of servers and multiple petabytes of data.
- Regardless of how much data you want to store,Twisted Storage is designed to handle it. The system can grow from one computer and a few disks to hundreds of systems and thousands of disk drivers.
Automatic data recovery without human intervention.
- Twisted Storage doesnt require backup/restore software or procedures. All data written to the system is recorded in multiple locations.
No special disaster recover procedures.
- So long as you have your systems in physically different locations and you have instructed the software to write the multiple copies to those systems, you have no-hassle disaster recover. If one of the sites goes down, the system will retrieve any data from the other systems. Additionally, once the disaster site is up and running, the system will automatically restore the data to the it.
Simplified configuration.
- To ease management of the system, you can change any one systems configuration and have it ripple through out the system.

Cascade Historian 6.2.0

Cascade Historian 6.2.0

Cascade Historian software is an event driven data storage program. more>>
Cascade Historian software is an event driven data storage program used to maintain persistent time-sequence data sets derived from process data.

Features and Benefits

In addition to providing storage the Historian also offers a historical query facility suitable for generating graphs and tabular output for export to other analysis programs. Other programs can also send data to the Cascade Historian by linking the API library and making the appropriate function calls.

The data storage mechanism within the Cascade Historian will maintain any number of simultaneous time histories, one for each configured process point.

The data for each point is maintained in one or more files, allowing for removal of stale data or offline archival of old data. These files are either numbered in increasing numerical order, or dated. When using dated files, the Cascade Historian automatically begins logging to a new file at midnight.

Data logging by event

The Cascade Historian records data by event. If no data change event occurs for a point, no data is written to disk. This saves disk space when the process point is idle, and captures even very short duration events when the point is changing. This is both more efficient and more accurate than a sampling historian. It is possible to place both a time and value deadband on each point to reduce storage for points whose values are constantly changing by insignificant amounts. The Cascade Historian will not reorder out of sequence data.

Data is stored on disk in fixed length binary records to minimize disk space, with a time resolution of nanoseconds. These files can be easily read by any custom program as well as by the Cascade Historian.

Any process may request data from the Cascade Historian. The Cascade Historian maintains a configurable in-memory cache for each point being recorded so that queries of recent data will not require disk access. If the request cannot be satisfied from the in-memory cache, then the disk files related to the point will be consulted for the data to satisfy the request. The requests can take one of the following forms:

Raw Data - Simply returns all recorded events for the data point, reported vs. time.
Periodic Data - Performs linear interpolation on the data to produce a data set at an even time interval. This produces the same result that a sampling historian would produce.
Relative Interpolation - Performs interpolation of one data point against another to produce a Y vs. X data set. Interpolation is performed on Y to produce (X,Y) pairs at the times of known values of X.
Periodic Relative Interpolation - Performs interpolation of one data point against another to produce a Y vs. X data set. Interpolation is performed on both X and Y to produce (X,Y) pairs at an even time interval.

The Cascade Historian has been built to allow quick addition of other forms of historical query.

Storage Inspector is a Firefox extension that makes it easy to view any sqlite database files in the current profile. This includes the anti-phishing and search engine...

Developer Comments:

There are quite a few polish issues that need to be addressed before this version is ready for the masses. If you notice problems, please view the readme.txt file first and tell me if there are other issues.

You can set the storageinspector.openmode pref to 2 if you want the extension to open in a new tab instead of its own window.

I have primarily tested the extension in Firefox 2b1 but would still like feedback on how it runs in 3a1.

If you dont like something, please post here with a constructive statement telling me what you would like.

DataWorkshop 1.1.1

DataWorkshop 1.1.1

DataWorkshop is an editor to view and modify binary data. more>>

DataWorkshop 1.1.1 with its functionality will help you a lot. It is actually an editor to view and modify binary data. The editor provides different views which can be used to edit, analyze and export the binary data.

A simple hex view can be used to simulate a standard hexeditor but more complex dynamic views are possible to comfortable edit binary structure like executables or captured network traffic. DataWorkshop editor provides powerful search and diff functionality and user defined transformations.

Views can be filtered using the XPath query language (e.g. selecting several IP packets in a network traffic capture file). Also, views can be exported as in various formats for further processing. This can be used to convert old binary formats into modern xml tagged data.

Keep in mind the limitations:

  • Too slow when editing large files (> 100MB) or using complex views
  • Maximal data size 2 147 483 647 bytes (~ 2 GB)

Major features:

  1. Mulitplatform (Windows, Linux, MacOS)
  2. User defined view definitions which are compiled into complex data views
  3. Data view can can be exported as xml
  4. Data view can be queried using XPath syntax to generate a new data view (e.g. selecting several IP packages according to their flags)
  5. Configurable data encodings used to edit and view data (e.g Hex, Decimal, IEEE 754 Reals, USAscii, EBCDIC, TimeInMillis etc.)
  6. Configurable data transformation (e.g. Rot13 Encoder / Decoder)
  7. Diff tool with bit granularity
  8. Find and replace with bit granularity
  9. Data clipboard for cut, copy and paste
  10. Undo/Redo
  11. XML based storage for persistent data
  12. Data conversion between different formats (e.g little endian big endian, hexdump binary data)
  13. Read and write from sockets

Enhancements: 12 July 2004

Hierarchical Data Format 1.8.0 Beta 3

Hierarchical Data Format 1.8.0 Beta 3

Hierarchical Data Format is a general purpose library and file format for storing scientific data. more>>
Hierarchical Data Format is a general purpose library and file format for storing scientific data.
HDF5 can store two primary objects: datasets and groups. A dataset is essentially a multidimensional array of data elements, and a group is a structure for organizing objects in an HDF5 file. Using these two basic objects, one can create and store almost any kind of scientific data structure, such as images, arrays of vectors, and structured and unstructured grids. You can also mix and match them in HDF5 files according to your needs.
Efficient storage and I/O.
HDF5 was created to address the data management needs of scientists and engineers working in high performance, data intensive computing environments. As a result, the HDF5 library and format emphasize storage and I/O efficiency. For instance, the HDF5 format can accommodate data in a variety of ways, such as compressed or chunked. And the library is tuned and adapted to read and write data efficiently on parallel computing systems.
Software.
NCSA maintains a suite of free, open source software, including the HDF5 I/O library and several utilities. The HDF5 user community also develops and contributes software, much of it freely available. Unlike HDF4, there is little commercial support for HDF5 at this time, but we are successfully working with vendors to change this.
Emphasis on standards.
Data can be stored in HDF5 in an endless variety of ways, so it is important for communities of users to standardize on how their data is to be organized in HDF5. This makes it possible to share data easily, and also to build and share tools for accessing and analyzing data stored in HDF5. The NCSA HDF team works with users to encourage them to organize HDF5 files in standard ways.
Large and varied user community.
HDF5 users range across a variety of engineering and scientific fields, and even some non-technical fields. Data stored in HDF5 is used for a wide range of applications, from computational fluid dynamics to film making.
Main features:
- Parallel HDF5 - Information on installing and using Parallel HDF5
- SZIP Compression - Information about SZIP Compression in HDF5
- Thread Safe HDF5 - Information on thread-safe capabilities of HDF5 and how to install
- The High Level HDF5 APIs, previously distributed separately, are now distributed as part of the main HDF5 Library:
- High Level HDF5 APIs - Information on installing and using the High Level HDF5 APIs
Applications:
- HDF Java Products - HDF4/HDF5 Java interfaces and viewer, HDFView.
- HDF Web-browser Plug-in - The HDF Web-browser plug-in is a windowed browser plug-in that is launched from a web browser to display HDF4 and HDF5 files.
- netCDF-4 - The NCSA and NetCDF groups are collaborating on a version of NetCDF built on top of HDF5.
- HDF5 XML Information Page - DTD and tools for using HDF5 with XML
- HDF5 WRF I/O Module - I/O module that reads HDF5 datasets for the Weather Research and Forecasting Model
- HDF5 Mesh API (prototype) - API for storing and retrieving structured and unstructured mesh data
Enhancements:
- The default Fortran was switched to G95 when using GCC.
- The autoconf build tools were updated. Fortran interfaces were added for the Image, Table, and Lite APIs.
- A Dimension Scale API (H5DS) was added.
- FreeBSD is now supported on AMD64 with GNU C and Fortran compilers.
- Support for sequential and parallel libraries was added for Intel 64 Linux clusters.
- Several bugs with writing fill values for datasets that have a variable-length datatype or component datatype were fixed.
