Type1 URW fonts with Cyrillics 1.0.7pre43

Type1 URW fonts with Cyrillics 1.0.7pre43

Type1 URW fonts with Cyrillics is a set of fonts known as urw-fonts or gnu-gs-fonts with the addition of cyrillic glyphs. more>>
Type1 URW fonts with Cyrillics is a set of fonts known as urw-fonts or gnu-gs-fonts with the addition of cyrillic glyphs.
Nimbus Sans L Regular, Nimbus Mono L Regular, Nimbus Mono L Oblique all come from a more recent version of the cyrillic URW fonts.
The hints on Nimbus Sans Regular have been modified in the following ways:
25 June 2002
- Added ghost hint to the top of 4 to keep it from being taller than the other digits.
- Reduced the width of the left stem hint for H to 83 (probably no real differences)
- Changed the StemSnapV values from [78 85 94] to [78 83 92] (and fixed up StdVW accordingly) This corresponds to the values in the font (which are 83/93 for lower case and upper case stems) better and makes the width-88 stems on M and N snap to to upper case widths not lower-case widths.
29 June 2002
- Removed odd vertical stem hints (width of horizontal stems) from f, F, t, E, yen sign, fi ligature, fl ligature, AE ligature, R, Lstroke, OE ligature, lstroke, E" variants, t, variants, Eth, Dstoke, etc.
- Fixed hints on 1 to be two ghost hints instead of one hint the height of the font
- fix bottom stem of u to have integer coordinates
- fixed hints on |
- fixed hints on inverted exclamation mark
The hints on Nimbus Mono L Oblique have been modified in the
following ways:
- Removed vertical stem hints from horizontal serifs on roman characters.
Enhancements:
- A lot of non-Russian Cyrillic glyph were fixed.
- All glyphs that have not yet been fixed were excluded from the distributed version.

Campsite 2.7.0 RC4

Campsite 2.7.0 RC4

Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news Web sites. more>>
Campsite is a robust, stable, and journalist-friendly solution for online magazines and newspapers that speaks your language.

Campsite is available in: English, Serbian (Cyrillic), and Serbo-Croatian (Latin), Arabic Portuguese, German, Russian, Czech, Romanian, Croatian, and Chinese.

Campsites user interface was built with the end user (journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit different profiles of end users.

Campsite follows the print-newspaper publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications > Issues > Sections > Articles.

Campsite project works best for medium-to-large-size online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.

fonty-rg 0.5

fonty-rg 0.5

fonty-rg is a set of fonts for the Linux console. more>>
fonty-rg project is a set of fonts for the Linux console.

LatCyrGr-16.psf is font containing most of ISO Latin characters, lot of cyrillic chars, lot of greek chars, and some punctuation. It is good for unicode linux console. This is 512 character font, means that you loose bold colour on linux console, unless you are using framebuffer.

chavo.psf is font containing lot of ISO-8859-2 repertoire, some additional ISO-8859-1 characters, Russian cyrillic characters and special Esperanto characters. It was specifically created to cover Czech, Slovak, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, German, Esperanto. Of course, it accidentally covers much wider range.

Good as a console font if you want to retain bold colours (and do not need some ISO-8859-1 characters - there was simply not enough space for them).

Usage

To build fonts: run build.sh script.
To modify fonts: edit files in source/ directory.
To add new charsets: add *.txt file into charsets/ directory.

To use fonts: there are two small scripts provided, iso and uni.
iso takes as an argument number of ISO-8859 encoding, switching console font into font for that encoding, and uni switches console into unicode mode, using big unicode font. See manpages for details.

Lingua::RU::Charset 0.02

Lingua::RU::Charset is a Perl extension for detecting and converting various russian character sets. more>>
Lingua::RU::Charset is a Perl extension for detecting and converting various russian character sets: KOI8-r, Windows-1251, CP866, ISO-8859-5, X-Mac-Cyrillic, russian text in english letters, russian part of Unicode and UTF-8. Lingua::RU::Charset module can be especially useful for computers with broken cyrillic locales (like foreign web hosts).

SYNOPSIS

use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CHARSET);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CONVERT);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CONVERT :CHARCASE);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (any2koi koi2lc koi2uc);

More documentation and examples coming soon...

NOTE

Unfortunately I dont have time to implement the Unicode and UTF-8 subroutines. But I am sure that such functions would be useful for interesting Perl scripts exchanging russian data with Java servlets. So you are welcome to submit some code!

ShiftJIS::Regexp 1.00

ShiftJIS::Regexp 1.00

ShiftJIS::Regexp contains regular expressions in Shift-JIS. more>>
ShiftJIS::Regexp contains regular expressions in Shift-JIS.

SYNOPSIS

use ShiftJIS::Regexp qw(:all);

match($string, p{Hiragana}{2}p{Digit}{2});
match($string, pH{2}pD{2});
# these two are equivalent:

This module provides some functions to use regular expressions in Shift-JIS on the byte-oriented perl.

The legal Shift-JIS character in this module must match the following regular expression:

[x00-x7FxA1-xDF]|[x81-x9FxE0-xFC][x40-x7Ex80-xFC]

To avoid false matching in multibyte encoding, this module uses anchoring technique to ensure each matching position places at the character boundaries.

cf. perlfaq6, "How can I match strings with multibyte characters?"

Functions

re(PATTERN)

re(PATTERN, MODIFIER)

Returns a regular expression parsable by the byte-oriented perl.

PATTERN is specified as a string. MODIFIER is specified as a string. Modifiers in the following list are allowed.

i case-insensitive pattern (only for ascii alphabets)
I case-insensitive pattern (greek, cyrillic, fullwidth latin)
j hiragana-katakana-insensitive pattern (but halfwidth katakana
are not considered.)

s treat string as single line
m treat string as multiple lines
x ignore whitespace (i.e. [x20nrtf]) unless backslashed
or inside a character class; but comments are not recognized!

o once parsed (not compiled!) and the result is cached internally.
o modifier
while ( ) {
print replace($_, (perl), $1, igo);
}
is more efficient than

while ( ) {
print replace($_, (perl), $1, ig);
}

because in the latter case the pattern is parsed every time
whenever the function is called.

match(STRING, PATTERN)

match(STRING, PATTERN, MODIFIER)

An emulation of m// operator aware of Shift-JIS. But, to emulate @list = $string =~ m/PATTERN/g, the pattern should be parenthesized (capturing parentheses are not added automatically).

@list = match($string, pH, g); # wrong; returns garbage!
@list = match($string,(pH),g); # good
PATTERN is specified as a string. MODIFIER is specified as a string.
i,I,j,s,m,x,o please see re().

g match globally
z tell the function the pattern matches an empty string
(sorry, due to the poor auto-detection)

replace(STRING or SCALAR REF, PATTERN, REPLACEMENT)

replace(STRING or SCALAR REF, PATTERN, REPLACEMENT, MODIFIER)

An emulation of s/// operator but aware of Shift-JIS.
If a reference to a scalar is specified as the first argument, substitutes the referent scalar and returns the number of substitutions made. If a string (not a reference) is specified as the first argument, returns the substituted string and the specified string is unaffected.

MODIFIER is specified as a string.

i,I,j,s,m,x,o please see re().
g,z please see match().

jsplit(PATTERN or ARRAY REF of [PATTERN, MODIFIER], STRING)

jsplit(PATTERN or ARRAY REF of [PATTERN, MODIFIER], STRING, LIMIT)

An emulation of CORE::split but aware of Shift-JIS.
In scalar/void context, it does not split into the @_ array; in scalar context, only returns the number of fields found.
PATTERN is specified as a string. But as PATTERN has no special meaning; it splits the string on a single space similarly to CORE::split / /.

When you want to split the string on whitespace, pass an undefined value as PATTERN or use the splitspace() function.

jsplit(undef, " x81x40 This is x81x40 perl.");
splitspace(" x81x40 This is x81x40 perl.");
# (This, is, perl.)

If you want to pass pattern with modifiers, specify an arrayref of [PATTERN, MODIFIER] as the first argument. You can also use "Embedded Modifiers").

MODIFIER is specified as a string.

i,I,j,s,m,x,o please see re().

splitspace(STRING)

splitspace(STRING, LIMIT)

This function emulates CORE::split( , STRING, LIMIT). It returns a list given by split STRING on whitespace including "x81x40" (IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE). Leading whitespace characters do not produce any field.

Note: splitspace(STRING, LIMIT) is equivalent to jsplit(undef, STRING, LIMIT).

splitchar(STRING)

splitchar(STRING, LIMIT)

This function emulates CORE::split(//, STRING, LIMIT). It returns a list given by split of STRING into characters.
Note: splitchar(STRING, LIMIT) is equivalent to jsplit(, STRING, LIMIT).

ProcessViewBrowser 2.7

ProcessViewBrowser 2.7

ProcessViewBrowser is similar to an internet browser. more>>
The concept is similar to an internet browser. But it is intended for the use in industrial process visualization.
It is based on Qt http://www.trolltech.com which is a platform independent GUI toolkit. ProcessViewBrowser is platform independent, because only posix calls and Qt are used. ProcessViewBrowser runs on Linux/Unix, OpenVMS and Windows.
The browser can display nearly all standard Qt widgets (labels, buttons, editfields, comboboxes, ...) and other widgets for bmp images, diagram widgets for displaying xy-graphs, OpenGL and VTK.
The widgets can be arranged on your masks. You can specify the position and size of the widgets.You can place one widget on top of another widget. I have seen many process visualization systems, which define their masks in the clients (I think this is not the right way to go).
Instead of this, the masks in ProcessViewBrowser are defined in the appropriate process computer itself. The user can jump from one process computer to the other and see all masks. When masks are updated nothing has to be done in the clients.
Main features:
- Client/Server
- Qt Widgets
- Custom Widgets
- platform independent
- 3D Graphics
- pvbuilder
- Design by Qt Designer
- C/C++, Python, Perl, PHP, Tcl
- Multithreaded or Inetd
- Unicode support (Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic, ...)
- Support for ssh-urls
- Connections to Fieldbuses
- Connections to PLCs
- Manage background processes
- Central event log
- GPL License

Sigma Consolefonts 0.01

Sigma Consolefonts 0.01

Sigma Consolefonts package contains a set of UTF-8 fonts which provide readability and wide coverage. more>>
Sigma Consolefonts package contains a set of UTF-8 fonts which provide readability and wide coverage. Actually, it is only one font, in an 8x16 size but with a number of variations of what gets mapped into the (psfu) consolefont. If you arent using Linux and a UTF-8 locale, this probably will not have any relevance to you.

Still interested ? Ok, here is a less than wonderful photograph of what the sigma-general version of this font can do. Apologies for the poor quality of the photo, I hope you can get an idea of what this does - and if you are using the linux console without a graphical desktop, youll just have to download it to try it out.

I aim to let people see as many characters as possible on their console. I know that most people assume a graphical desktop is necessary to see a wide range of characters, but the standard console can display 512 characters if you do without the bold colours.

Traditional console fonts have often used separate glyphs for cyrillic and latin letters of the same shape, but desktop fonts normally render them identically (e.g. latin A and cyrillic А), and so do I - this helps make some space available. I have used Dmitry Bolkhovityanovs perl script to select which glyphs are used in a particular psfu font, and to map multiple codepoints to the same glyph. There are a limited range of line-drawing characters (enough to give a decent display in the linux kernels make menuconfig).
The main use of these fonts is when you dont have a graphical desktop but still want to be able to read text in many languages. So, perhaps they are most appropriate to people running servers. For myself, they let me read my mail over ssh when I am building the graphical desktop for a new system.

The font itself started out as etl16 from one of the debian console packages. I altered it to give more balanced letters - longer descenders at the expense of less space above the letters, and bringing the accents closer to the letter. The cell format of a capital letter is 3 rows above the letter, 10 rows for the letter, and another 3 rows for the descender. In hex, that is 3A3, hence the name (U+03A3 is Σ).

Unlike traditional vga fonts hard-coded into the machine, these fonts are much less bright - you may have to increase your screens brightness. This is because they are thin (normally only one pixel wide). The 8x16 size is very much "one size fits all" - adequate for most accented latin, and for cyrillic and current greek, but not ideal where there are multiple accents (livonian, vietnamese, polytonic greek).
Unlike most other console fonts, these come with the source (a bdf font) and a series of map files to decide what to include. So, if you really dislike the form of one of the letters you can alter it - the bdf is just 16 lines of hex codes, e.g. a capital U has nine lines of x42 (0100 0010) and a baseline of x3C (0011 1100).

If you want to change a map, either to add something else, or to remove something you dont use, they are simple to edit.
The linux console cannot accomodate CJK languages, so this font is for people who use alphabetic languages. The armenian and georgian glyphs should be identical to what is in etl16, also the arabic and hebrew (and I really dont know how useful those are on a left-to-right terminal). Everything else has been tweaked to provide what I think is a satisfactory result.

The tarball includes my attempt at listing the alphabets for the languages covered - to answer the question, which glyphs do you need for a particular language. These files may also be useful if you are using xorg and want to check whether your fonts provide adequate coverage.

For most people, I think the general version should work well (latin, greek and the main european cyrillic letters). Some people may prefer the cyrillic variant (all current cyrillic, greek, some latin letters. There is also a caucasian variant (latin, cyrillic, armenian, georgian) and some other example and proof-of-concept variants, e.g. african, polytonic, vietnamese. Ultimately, the african languages are limited by a lack of precomposed glyphs in unicode (AFAIK, there is a lack of terminals which support combining diacriticals), but some languages such as venda should work. Languages with multiple accents above the letter (livonian, polytonic greek, vietnamese) are not wonderful in the 8x16 size, but they might suffice.
