Sound Studio 1.0.6

Sound Studio 1.0.6

Sound Studio is a Sound Editing Tool. more>>
Sound Studio is a Tcl/Tk application written by Paul Sharpe as his third year individual project, for which he received the Microsoft Prize for Software Engineering. It was subsequently improved by Robin Whitehead.

It enables recording, playback and simple cut & paste editing of sound files of diverse formats on a PC equipped with a soundcard and the OSS (formally VoxWare) sound drivers.

It uses Lance Norskogs Sox for format conversion; the version weve used is bundled together with this software in its entirety to prevent incompatibility problems, although you should try it with your own sox if you have a more recent one.

Sound Studio is now "finished", but no doubt there are loads of bugs still to be found and features to be added.

Cadabra 0.115

Cadabra 0.115

Cadabra is a computer algebra system for the manipulation of what could loosely be called tensorial expressions. more>>
Cadabra is a computer algebra system for the manipulation of what could loosely be called tensorial expressions.
Cadabra is aimed at, though not necessarily restricted to, theoretical high-energy physicists. Because of its target audience, the programs interface, storage system and underlying philosophy differ substantially from other computer algebra systems.
Main features:
- Usage of a TeX-like notation, which eliminates many errors in transcribing problems from paper to computer and back.
- Built-in understanding of dummy indices and dummy symbols, including their automatic relabelling when necessary. Powerful algorithms for canonicalisation of objects with index symmetries, both mono-term and multi-term.
- A typing system through properties, but freedom to dispense with this system entirely when it is not needed.
- A new way to deal with products of non-commuting objects, enabling a notation which is identical to standard physicists notation (i.e. no need for special non-commuting product operators).
- A flexible optional undo system. Interactive calculations can be undone to arbitrary level without requiring a full re-evaluation of the entire calculation.
- A simple and documented way to add new algorithms in the form of C++ modules, which directly operate on the internal expression tree.
Cadabra has been under development for some time now, but has never left my own computer. The current version is the first public release, intended to collect feedback from a wider audience. So, feel free to mail me at kasper.peeters (at) aei.mpg.de with suggestions or constructive criticism.
Enhancements:
- Many new algorithms were added.
- The GUI was improved with progress bars, font size selection, and cut and paste.
- Many bugs were fixed.
- This version compiles cleanly on all versions of OS X as well as on 64-bit platforms.

Gnome Workstation Command Center 0.9.8

Gnome Workstation Command Center 0.9.8

GWCC allows users to execute network utilities (ping, nslookup, traceroute). more>>
GWCC allows users to execute network utilities (ping, nslookup, traceroute) and workstation commands (netstat, df, process grep) from a single tabbed window.
Welcome to GWCC.This program is designed to provide an easy to use interface to your Unix system. I dont know about you, but perform the same operations over-and-over day-after-day, and the command line provided via a terminal window ceases to be very useful once you want to start doing something with the information - like saving or printing it.
In addition to having to know all the flags for all the commands you want to use, you also have to scroll up-and-down the terminal window to retrace your steps and to cut-and-paste (what was that IP address again?).
So, i hope you will find my GTK/GNOME-based point-and-click application of some use in your daily computing activities. Please feel free to write to me with any suggestions you may have (see Contacting The Author below).
Main features:
- Complete preferences system (no need to edit any config files, or know flags)
- GNOME support (session management, dialogs, menus, etc.)
- LibGLADE support
- Saving and Printing of all output!
- Highly configurable command flags and program behaviour.

Jhead 2.7

Jhead 2.7

Jhead is a command line driven Exif header parser and manipulator. more>>
Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras. It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc.
Jhead project is also able to reduce the size of digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.
Things jhead can extract from an Exif jpeg file:
- Integral low-res Exif thumbnail
- Shutter speed
- Camera F-stop number
- Flash used (yes/no)
- Distance camera was focused at
- Focal length and calculate 35 mm equivalent focal length
- Image resolution
- Time and date picture was taken
- Camera make and model
Things jhead can modify in an exif jpeg file:
- Up-right images according to rotation tag using jpegtran
- Set or relative adjust internal exif timestamps
- Re-name or date stamp fils according to exif timestamp
- Transfer exif headers between images
- Edit jpeg comments
- Delete exif or comment sections from jpeg images
Enhancements:
- The "-mkexif" option to create a new minimal EXIF section in an existing image was added.
- The "-ds" and "-dsft" options to manipulate the EXIF date and time were added.
- Image and thumbnail rotation flag handling was fixed.

File Splitter 1.3

Split large text/html files into smaller files. I find it much faster and more accurate than cut and paste. File Splitter - Split large text/html files into smaller files. I find it

much faster and more accurate than cut and paste.

You embed commands in the big file telling it which pieces

of it are to go where, then let Splitter do the work. It is

much faster and more accurate than trying to select huge

blocks of text in an editor. You dont accidentally lose or

duplicate text. Keeping files small makes the site more

responsive.

In the following pretend that [...] are actually lessthan...greater than.

You embed multiple [split tags in the file to be split of

the form:

[split charlie.html]

...

stuff that will end up in the charlie.html file.

...

[/split]

The text between the [split xxx] and [/split] tags is split

off into that named file and the text is removed from the

original file along with the tags.

1. Filenames may be absolute or relative, with no quotes or spaces.

2. Tags may be nested, but they must balance (equal number

of [split xxx] and [/split]).

3. Tags are case-insensitive, i.e. may be lower or upper case.

4. Multiple [split xxx] tags may be directed to the same

file, where they will be appended.

5. If the files mentioned in the split tags already exist,

they will be overwritten.

6. Anything not inside [split xxx].. [/split] is retained in

the original file. Everything else is removed.

The file being split must be small enough to fit in RAM.

Java array addressing limits the file to 2GB, though other

considerations mean in practice the largest file you can

handle will be smaller still.

To install, Extract the zip download with Winzip, available from

http://www.winzip.com (or similar unzip utility) into any

directory you please, often C:\ -- ticking off the (user

folder names) option. To run as an application, type:

java -jar C:\com\mindprod\splitter\splitter.jar x.html

adjusting as necessary to account for where the jar file is.

A right-click on the attribute (attribute-name="...") will jump to the "element_name.html#attribute_name" section of the html help file.

Many times there is a group of subroutines that can be tailored by different situations with a few, say global variables. However, global variables pollute namespaces, become mangled when the functions are multi-threaded and probably have many other faults that it is not worth the time discovering.
As well documented in literature, object oriented programming do not have these faults. This program module class of objects provide the objectized options for a group of subroutines or encapsulated options by using the methods directly as in an option object.
The Data::Startup class provides a way to input options in very liberal manner of either
- arrays, reference to an array, or reference to hash to a
- reference to an array or reference to a hash
- reference to a hash
- referene to an array
- many other combos
without having to cut and paste specialize, tailored code into each subroutine/method.
