GIMP cursor brushes project is a set of (50) brushes for use in the GIMP, created from assorted cursors. Cursor brushes continues my contribution to my image editor of choice, the GIMP.

Seems basic things like cursors (most used for help-style pages) are often lacking.
I find lots of fancy, useless stuff -- much of it of real artistic merit -- but, as I said, impractical.

I blew the weekend making these brushes. Granted much consists of "prior art", but there was a good deal of editing involved. I even made the "Cursor Mouse" from scratch.

Use them for anything youd like. If you redistribute them, please include this file.

I post these, and perhaps make updates, at gimphelp.org. All the items will also be included (in png format) at wpclipart.com, the Public Domain clipart site.

Multi-Cursor Window Manager 1.0

Multi-Cursor Window Manager 1.0

Multi-Cursor Window Manager is a modified Unix window manager which provides multiple cursors. more>>
Multi-Cursor Window Manager is a modified Unix window manager which provides multiple cursors. This allows multiple users to simultaneously interact with a Unix desktop environment.

Using a modified x2x client users can capture the keyboard and mouse input from their workstation and send to their personal cursor on a shared computer display. Multiple cursors are distinguished by different colors, and users can simultaneously interact with separate windows.

There are 7 uniquely colored cursors available. The current multi-cursor window manager is based on a modified version of IceWM 1.2.13

The multi-cursor window manager works by time-slicing the system cursor to provide the appearance of multiple independent cursors.

Compiling the Software:

To compile Ice Window Manager:

>cd icewm
>./configure --without-imlib
>make
>make install

Note: there is a preferences file in the icewm directory ("icewm/preferences"). Move this file to the installation preferences directory. It has some default choices that work well for multi-user interaction. Also, use the "nice" theme in IceWM.

To compile the x2x client:

>cd x2x-mp
>xmkmf
>make

GIMP arrow and cursor brushes project consists of 17 sets of arrows and three cursors (a total of 72 brushes) to put in your GIMP brushes folder.

Arrow brushes is my small payback for using the great GIMP program.

I had a hard time (actually impossible) finding any arrow brushes for the GIMP.
But .gbr files are easy to make, so I spent two days of my life making these arrows
(and a few "cursors") as my modest contribution.

Use them for anything youd like. If you redistribute them, please include this file.

I post these, and perhaps make updates, at gimphelp.org. All the items will also be included (in png format) at wpclipart.com, the Public Domain clipart site.

Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs is a set of emacs commands managing an more>>
Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs is a set of emacs commands managing an "item" cursor (e.g. a word, expression, sentence, or defun).
Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs quickly re-assigns the cursor keys between these as needed. Built on this are high-level actions such as converting code blocks to separate functions.
This provides elegant and concise editing, and is pedal- and voice-friendly.
Main features:
- A block (or region) cursor, with motion and text selection by semantically significant units e.g. statements, statement parts, sentences, phrases, table rows and cells
- Editing in terms of these (e.g. ``Make the selected code conditional or ``Delete the selected text)
- Easy access to these through flexible, dynamic, rebinding of the arrow keys and others, with easy ways to navigate the space of possible navigation spaces
- High-level editing operations such as:
- Converting an expression to a local variable initialized to that value
- Converting a block of code to a procedure/function, working out automatically what parameters are required
- Means to access these (and other) navigation and editing commands through a narrow-channel interface such as footswitches (suitable for disability access, including RSI)
- Voice access setup for use with emacs-vr-mode
Enhancements:
- Mostly bug fixes, including a long-standing one for the mode changing wrongly on coming out of the minibuffer.

ComixCursors is an icon pack which provides original Comix Cursors.
Main features:
- X11 mouse theme with a comics feeling.
- Package comes with 42 different mouse themes for X11.
- 5 colors (black, blue, green, orange and white)
- 4 different sizes (small, regular, large and huge)
- 2 different weights (slim and normal)
- and one for christmas and one with ghost
Any bug report or improvement idea is very welcome. See the "how to install" link below for installation instructions on KDE. Else extract the archive in ~/.icons/ .
With the sources download below you can configure and build your own set of cursors regarding transparency, outline- fill- and shadow-color, the size and various other options. See the scripts and README included. Note that you *must* have inkscape and ImageMagick installed to make use of it.
The cursors are named according to the freedesktop cursor naming convention now. The rest is linked. I hope nothing is missing. Additional cursors for mozilla/firefox are availlable.
Want left-handed cursors? Take the "-LH" downloads below.
The RPM installation has moved in 0.4.2 from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons to /usr/share/icons, so if you installed a previous version by rpm you better uninstall the package first - things might get messed up.
Enhancements:
- Fixed .theme file syntax, cursors dont appear as icons in gnome any more (thanx to Sune Vuorela).

Logical Desktop

Logical Desktop

Logical Desktop is a desktop environment for GNU/Linux that is different. more>>
Logical Desktop is a desktop environment. A "desktop environment" is a program that allows you to do many different things with your computer, but in a consistent way. Desktop environments can be seen as a "dogma" of how things should be done, and how they should look and feel.

Examples of desktop environments are KDE, Gnome, the Windows interface, etc.

In Logical Desktop, like in all desktop environments, you work by composing actions made of one verb and one or more objects (e.g. "Print" is the verb, and the objects are the printer, the files to print, and the program used for printing).

Logical Desktop is how you specify those things: 1) in any order 2) with automatic hiding of the things that dont make sense.

1. In any order: Logical Desktop enables you to specify your action with many possible styles of interaction (file-oriented, task-oriented, program-oriented, device-oriented). Logical Desktop can do that because it treats verbs and objects with complete symmetry and uniformity: you can select both verbs and objects, and in any order.

2. With automatic hiding: Logical Desktop is more intelligent than traditional systems because it hides the unnecessary things while you are composing the action. More precisely, Logical Desktop hides those verbs/files/devices/programs that make no sense with the current selection.
Combining this with the previous point (that you can select anything in any order), we obtain a very powerful mechanism: if you select a verb first, the objects that dont make sense with it are hidden; if you select an object first, the verbs that dont make sense with it are hidden.

Text::RewriteRules Perl module contains a system to rewrite text using regexp-based rules.

RULES/m inc

ABSTRACT

This module uses a simplified syntax for regexp-based rules for rewriting text. You define a set of rules, and the system applies them until no more rule can be applied.

Two variants are provided:

traditional rewrite (RULES function):

while it is possible do substitute
| apply first substitution rule

cursor based rewrite (RULES/m function):

add a cursor to the begining of the string
while not reach end of string
| apply substitute just after cursor and advance cursor
| or advance cursor if no rule can be applied

A lot of computer science problems can be solved using rewriting rules.
Rewriting rules consist of mainly two parts: a regexp (LHS: Left Hand Side) that is matched with the text, and the string to use to substitute the content matched with the regexp (RHS: Right Hand Side).

Now, why dont use a simple substitute? Because we want to define a set of rules and match them again and again, until no more regexp of the LHS matches.

A point of discussion is the syntax to define this system. A brief discussion shown that some users would prefer a function to receive an hash with the rules, some other, prefer some syntax sugar.

The approach used is the last: we use Filter::Simple such that we can add a specific non-perl syntax inside the Perl script. This improves legibility of big rewriting rules sytems.

This documentation is divided in two parts: first we will see the reference of the module. Kind of, what it does, with a brief explanation. Follows a tutorial which will be growing through time and releases.

Loadmeter 1.20

Loadmeter 1.20

Loadmeter project is a Linux/Solaris system resource monitor that uses very little memory, and is written using raw Xlib. more>>
Loadmeter project is a Linux/Solaris system resource monitor that uses very little memory, and is written using raw Xlib.

It monitors:

- Load average
- Uptime
- Disk usage
- Memory usage

In its normal state it displays a window with a coloured bar graph showing the load average for the past minute. This is also shown in digits at the top of the window. both are updated every second. A red notch marks the maximum load since it was started, and can be reset by pressing button2 or hidden with button3. The blue notch shows the 5 minute load average.

By clicking with button1, a pop-up window appears showing the uptime, the capacity of each filesystem, and memory/swap usage. More detailed info on each filesystem is available by highlighting the corresponding one. The way this window pops down is intentional, just to make it interesting.

Any filesystems with higher usage than specified by the -warn option (default 90%) are shown with a (default)green background. The -disk option can also be used as an instant warn feature.

Press Escape in the top level window to exit.

Loadmeter also has the ability to override window managers. Giving the option -override causes the top-level window to have the override_redirect bit set. This is useful for window managers that insist upon decorating standard clients (eg Enlightenment, at least up to DR0.9). If youve given this option, then you can still resize and move the window. During moving and resizing, the cursor displays the geometry.

Ctrl-button1 lowers the window.
Ctrl-button2 raises and moves the window.
Ctrl-button3 raises and resizes the window.
A SIGUSR1 sent to the process will also raise the top level window.

There is also a -parent switch, which can be used to specify another window (in decimal or hex form) to use as the parent for the toplevel one (default is the root). This is useful for banking several together inside another window for easy positioning, etc. The lower function doesnt work if -parent is specified. Also note that you cant use both -override and -parent at the same time.

Command-line options:

-disp < display> Specify which X server to connect to
-geom < +x+y> Specify position on the screen
-sync Call sync() when checking disk usage
-numfont < font> Use for the load digits
-labelfont < font> Use for the hostname label
-popupfont < font> Use for the cursor and popup window
-popupbg < colour> Use for the popup background
-popupfg < colour> Use for the foreground of the popup
-warnbg < colour> Use for the high disk usage warning colour
-meter < colour> Use for the disk usage meter bar
-warn < pct> Min percent capacity reqd to highlight a filesystem
-label < label> Bargraph label to use instead of the hostname
-name < name> Name of the app to present to the WM
-bh < blockheight> Height of individual bargraph blocks (in pixels)
-override Always override window manager
-parent < window> Use as the parent for the toplevel window
-noshrink Dont do fancy popup window shrinking
-disk Show a warning when disk usage exceeds -warn value
-nogeom Disables displaying the window geometry in the cursor whilst moving/resizing the main window.

cx_Oracle 4.3.2

cx_Oracle 4.3.2

cx_Oracle is a Python extension module that allows access to Oracle. more>>
cx_Oracle is a Python extension module that allows access to Oracle, and conforms to the Python database API specifications. cx_Oracle module is currently built against Oracle 8.1.7, Oracle 9.2, and Oracle 10.2.
This API has been defined to encourage similarity between the Python modules that are used to access databases. By doing this, we hope to achieve a consistency leading to more easily understood modules, code that is generally more portable across databases, and a broader reach of database connectivity from Python.
The interface specification consists of several sections:
- Module Interface
- Connection Objects
- Cursor Objects
- DBI Helper Objects
- Type Objects and Constructors
- Implementation Hints
- Major Changes from 1.0 to 2.0
Enhancements:
- This release adds methods to LOB objects in order to improve performance of reading/writing LOB values.
- It also fixes support for native doubles and floats in Oracle 10g.
- Support was added for autocommit mode and reading/writing the size of the statement cache.
- A hook for returning objects other than tuples from cursors was also added.
