SIMD Cross-platform headers 2004.10.26

SIMD Cross-platform headers 2004.10.26

SIMD Cross-platform headers is a cross- platform, cross-compiler, cross CPU C/C++ header collection. more>>
SIMD Cross-platform headers is a cross- platform, cross-compiler, cross CPU C/C++ header collection that aids the creation portable vectorized (SIMD) C/C++ code.
SIMD Cross-platform headerst supports (or partially supports) x86 (MMX/SSE/SSE2) GCC and MSVC, PPC Altivec GCC and CodeWarrior, ARM GCC, and software-emulated SIMD.
NOTE: Code must be 16-byte aligned. Align to 16 when allocating memory.
X86/XSCALE (Intel) vs. PowerPC/MIPS
While the PowerPC and MIPS SIMD instructions take 2 source vectors and a destination vector, the Intel platforms only take a source and destination. Example:
PPC/MIPS can do:
C = A + B
X86 can only do:
A = A + B (or A+=B)
Code written either way will work on the X86, and still be faster than 387 math, but preserving the registers takes significant overhead (Disassemble the test program for an example. The prints preserve, the disassembly test does not.) For the fastest code between systems, write your SIMD math as the X86 expects, manually preserving SIMD variables.
At least GCC for PPC doesnt seem to have any issues figuring out how to deal with a source and destination memory address being the same.
Enhancements:
- Created file with some i386, GCC dialect

Cross Platform Toolkit Library (xtklib) 0.2.0 Alpha

Cross Platform Toolkit Library (xtklib) 0.2.0 Alpha

Cross Platform Toolkit Library(xtklib) is a C++ based framework for highly object-oriented cross-platform programming. more>>
Cross Platform Toolkit Library (xtklib) is a C++ based framework for highly object-oriented cross-platform programming.
In particular, the library provides a full abstraction layer between its API and the main services offered by the underlying operating system(Thread, processes,GUI,Filesystem,etc.) plus a set of generic utilities (Strings,Data structures,etc.).
Unlike other famous libraries, xtklib makes full use of all features of C++ like RTTI, Templates, Exceptions thus obtaining a strongly object-oriented design with a Java-like sensation.
The library is composed by two main modules: "Base" and "Widgets". The target operating systems are Windows and Unix(Linux and BSD in primis) with a plan to move also towards other systems.
Main features:
- Use of modern C++ - use of many powerfull features offered by modern C++ like exceptions,RTTI,templates and namespaces allows faster development,improves code readability,and reduces programming errors.
- Strong Object-Oriented design - designed to meet requirements of modern software industry: modularity, low coupling, high cohesion,information hiding. Design patterns and advanced class hierarchies are extensively used in all the library.
- Ease of use - Clean and intuitive programming interface with a Java-like sensation.
- Complete - Features supported includes:
- Basic services: Thread, Synchronization, Filesystem access, Processes, Networking.
- Advanced services: I/O Streams, Logging.
- Debugging tools: Stack tracing, Memory Leak detection.
- Gui widgets (Work in progress): Windows,Frames,Layout managers,common controls,advanced controls.
- Generic utilities: complete data structures framework, String class with unicode support.
- Full unicode support: native support to unicode, conversion to/from different charsets.
- And many others: the list is too much long to enumerate all minor but extremely usefull features.
- Cross Platform - Supports various systems and compilers.
- XTKlib is known to work under:
- Windows XP (x86)
- Visual C++ versions 7.1, 8.0
- MinGW32
- Linux (x86, x86_64)
- GCC 3.4
- Compatibility with other platforms and compilers are not excluded.(If you can compile/use xtklib with a non listed compiler/platform let us know about that, thanks)
- Fast - Although performance are not the main goal of this library (exceptions and RTTI have a tradeoff in this meaning), code agility and execution speed are often taken in consideration during development, thus leaving a performance advantage compared to interpreted programming languages(eg. Java,C#) or scripting languages(eg. Python,Ruby,Perl).
Enhancements:
- This is the first release with a working "Widgets" module, although it has only basic features.
- This release is provided for testing and development only.

GNUstep Database Library 2 (GDL2) is a set of libraries to map Objective-C objects to rows of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
GNUstep Database Library 2 aims to be compatible with Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF) as released with WebObjects 4.5 from Apple Inc.
Main features:
- EOControl (gnustep-db2control)
- The fundamental abstraction library which includes many non RDBMS related extensions such as KeyValueCoding extensions and other categories. Most importantly it contains the classes which handle the coordination of object graphs namely EOEditingContext.
- EOAccess (gnustep-db2)
- This library implements the underlying mechanism to retrieve and store data in RDBMS. It defines the abstract classes like EOAdaptor which are subclassed to interface with concrete RDBMS implementations.
- EOInterface
- This library implements classes used to synchronize UI components such as NSTextFields, NSButtons and NSTableViews with the state of objects which an EOEditingContext contains.
- EOAdaptors
- This is a collection of concrete EOAdaptor projects needed to connect to specific databases. GDL2 currently only supplies an Adaptor for the PostgreSQL database. Even though the Adaptor is still called Postgres95 we aim to support PostgreSQL 7.2 and higher API. In fact the Adaptor may very soon be renamed to PostgreSQL.
- DBModeler

Mckoi SQL Database 1.0.3

Mckoi SQL Database 1.0.3

Mckoi SQL Database is a Java relational database management system. more>>
Mckoi SQL Database is a full featured SQL-92 relational database management system written in Java.

The software can operate as either a dedicated multi-client, multi-threaded database server, or can be used as an embedded database inside a Java application.

The engine is designed to be easy to use and maintain and versatile for sophisticated database development tasks. The software provides a JDBC 2.0 driver.

To use Mckoi SQL Database, you will need a JavaTM runtime environment version 1.2 or greater. Sun provides Java runtimes for Win32, Solaris and Linux from their website at http://www.javasoft.com/j2se/. IBM also provides various Java runtimes for a number of platforms at http://www.ibm.com/java/jdk/download/.

When Java has been installed on your system, unpack the mckoi distribution file to a directory in your file system. Then you are ready to create a database and develop your database application.

Creating A Database

Before you can begin development of your database application, you will need to create and configure a blank database. The database configuration file describes all of the configurable properties of the database (details of the database configuration file are covered in the next section). The software ships with a default configuration that looks for a database at path ./data in your filesystem.

To create a database using the default configuration with an admin username of admin_user and password aupass00, go to a prompt, change to the Mckoi Database distribution directory and type:

java -jar mckoidb.jar -create "admin_user" "aupass00"

We do not advise using either this username or password in a production system. The user created here has full control over every aspect of the database so choose a username / password carefully.

When the command has completed, a sub-directory called data will have been generated. This directory is used to store data from the database. A sub-directory called log is also generated which stores debugging and query log information.

Database Configuration

When you run the mckoidb.jar package, it looks for a file named db.conf in the current directory. This file contains a number of variables that determine where the database looks for information, as well as other user-definable properties. The configuration file can be renamed and copied to a different location. If you change the configuration file location, you must supply the location when you run the database;

java -jar mckoidb.jar -conf [location of conf file] .....

You can edit the configuration file with a text editor. The default configuration file that ships with the software contains extensive comments on what each variable does.

OthBase 1.8.1

OthBase 1.8.1

OthBase is an Othello game. more>>
As an Othello player I have used since 1988 several tools and programs for improving my game play. The most often used tools have been: Thor, Cassio and WZebra. Those programs are very interesting tools for studying Othello but they have all the same drawback: you are locked to one OS platform.
The OthBase project has started beginning of November 2002 based on the following constatations:
- there was no cross platform Othello database program that was available on several platforms; you needed for example to use Cassio for MacOS 9.X, or use WZebra for Windows if you wanted to study tournament level games
- there was no Othello database program available on the Java platform nor Linux (sorry LZebra was not very well supported on Linux)
- there was always the need to update manually the database when using Cassio or WZebra; this task should have been done automatically via the program itself
Ajax and Cyrano, two good Othello programs written in Java, have shown that we can have strong and interesting Othello programs written on the Java platform
As an early Java adopter (since the first JDK 1.0 beta release in 1996!) and Othello addict, I decided on November 2002 to start this project as the Java platform is now very popular and really more mature than a couple of years ago. The JFC/SWING GUI library is now at a good level and JVM performances are increasing each year. Check for example infos about HotSpot. Moreover the Java developers community is really alive and responsive. You can check at Apache Jakarta Project and at JavaDesktop.
My main goals are:
- to promote Othello thru the use of a database program for studying games of tournament players
- to develop an Othello database program in Java that will be the same on Windows, MacOSX or Linux
- to support the Thor database format and other popular game file formats (e.g. XOF, SGF, PGN, Cassio)
- to implement a database feature set identical at minimum to Cassios one
- to allow an easy installation and update of the program
- to allow an easy update of the FFO game database available in the Thor database format
- to add new cool extra features that are needed by Othello players in a responsive way
- to allow developers to add some plugins into the program to add new features
Main features:
Database Formats Support
- XOF database files
- Thor database (.WTH / .JOU / .TRN files)
- PGN database files (Kurnik and VOG)
- GGF (old GGS server)
- Yahoo! Japan logs from Uniyma (text export format)

HTTPD::GroupAdmin 1.66

HTTPD::GroupAdmin 1.66

HTTPD::GroupAdmin is a Perl module for the management of HTTP server group databases. more>>
HTTPD::GroupAdmin is a Perl module for the management of HTTP server group databases.

SYNOPSIS

use HTTPD::GroupAdmin ();

This software is meant to provide a generic interface that hides the inconsistencies across HTTP server implementations of user and group databases.

METHODS

new ()

Heres where we find out whats different about your server.

Some examples:

@DBM = (DBType => DBM,
DB => .htgroup,
Server => apache);

$group = new HTTPD::GroupAdmin @DBM;

This creates an object whose database is a DBM file named .htgroup, in a format that the Apache server understands.

@Text = (DBType => Text,
DB => .htgroup,
Server => ncsa);

$group = new HTTPD::GroupAdmin @Text;

This creates an object whose database is a plain text file named .htgroup, in a format that the NCSA server understands.

Full list of constructor attributes:

Note: Attribute names are case-insensitive

Name - Group name

DBType - The type of database, one of DBM, Text, or SQL (Default is DBM)

DB - The database name (Default is .htpasswd for DBM & Text databases)
