Score Reading Trainer 0.1.3
Score Reading Trainer helps you improve your (musical) score reading skills by practicing with random scores. more>>
Score Reading Trainer helps you improve your (musical) score reading skills by practicing with random scores.
It works in a very simple way, you choose the clef, the key and the accidentals you want to practice as well as thee range of notes and then, the program generates a on-screen score with that parameters but randomizing the notes and the accidentals (and everything else that is randomizable).
The keys of the keyboard are mapped to the notes like in a piano (it would be nice to support midi in the future) and all you have to do, is press the right key for the first note you see in the score on the screen.
If you pressed the right key, the note will disapear and replaced by the second one, a diferent note, and you have to repeat the process.
As the notes are generated randomly, theres no way one can predict the following note and since several notes (as much as the screen allows) are on the screen, one can also train pre-reading (reading ahead of the current one) of the notes.
The program doesnt emit any sound (at least, yet) and its not inteded to teach rithmic or melodic concepts.
Enhancements:
2004-03-08 Jos? Pablo Ezequiel "Pupeno" Fern?ndez
- Try harder not to leave any extra line floating arround.
2004-03-08 Jos? Pablo Ezequiel "Pupeno" Fern?ndez
- Respect the position (over the third line) where notes are inverted.
2004-03-08 Jos? Pablo Ezequiel "Pupeno" Fern?ndez
- Limits wasnt really respected in other clefs than G2.

t-prot 2.4
t-prot is a filter which improves the readability of email messages. more>>
t-prot (TOFU Protection) is a filter which improves the readability of email messages and Usenet posts by hiding some of their annoying parts.
The annoyances it handles include mailing list footers, signatures, TOFU, sequences of blank lines, and repeated punctuation.
TOFU is an acronym that stands for "Text oben, Fullquote unten", a German reference to the practice of adding just a few lines of original text and quoting a complete message below them.
Enhancements:
- A new option was added to skip processing of very large and time-consuming messages.

Stratego/XT 0.16
Stratego/XT is a development environment for creating stand-alone transformation systems. more>>
Stratego/XT is a development environment for creating stand-alone transformation systems.
It combines Stratego, a language for implementing transformations based on the paradigm of programmable rewriting strategies, with XT, a collection of reusable components and tools for the development of transformation systems.
In general, Stratego/XT is intended for the analysis, manipulation, and generation of programs, though its features make it useful for transforming any structured documents.
In practice, it has been used to build many types of transformation systems including compilers, interpreters, static analyzers, domain-specific optimizers, code generators, source code refactorers, documentation generators, and document transformers.
Enhancements:
- The compiler was restructured.
- Some old language features were removed.
- Man pages for all tools were completed.
- A new introductory tutorial with examples was co-released, and more.

UserCHRoot 0.1
UserCHRoot project can switch root, change directory, drop privileges and exec. more>>
UserCHRoot project can switch root, change directory, drop privileges and exec.
When dealing with chroot environments, its sometimes useful to have a tool with which the chroot will be done, but the target executable will not be run using root privileges.
It is also sometimes useful to switch the current working directory for the target executable just before it starts. userchroot is a small program intended to be run as suid (u+s root) in these cases. It tries to be as careful as possible in order not to run the target executable as root user.
It does not support arbitrary user specification, but instead will drop back to normal user privileges of the calling user (undoing what suid-bit has done basically). If dropping root privilege fails (or actually resetting the effective credentials to the normal ones), the target executable will not be executed.
userchroot has been tested on Linux, implemented using C and licensed under GNU General Public License (v2). The tool is provided without a warranty of any kind, in the understanding that software bugs do exist and bad things can happen.
Building and installing
Using suid bits with programs that you randomly download off the Internet is not a good security practice. Because of this reason, building and installing the software is not automated at all (no autotools, no Makefile).
In order to build you will only need regular gcc and the standard C library headers. You will probably need to run chmod, chown and cp in order to install the program usefully.
The vagueness of this section is intentional.
USAGE: new-root new-cwd exec-name [exec-params]

Tasty Menu 0.9
Tasty Menu project is a KMenu replacement aiming to provide the maximum usability. more>>
Tasty Menu project is a KMenu replacement aiming to provide the maximum usability, or at least to be a testbed for usability concepts and ideas for a future kmenu replacement.
The left part of the menu is very similar to the Novell idea (http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/preview.html): you have a search box that is always selected when the menu is opened (the search result are displayed in the leftmost listview), followed by a combobox that decides what the following listview: favourite applications (default), most used applications, recently used applications and recent documents.
The right part contains the whole kmenu and takes the aspect from KBFX (http://www.kbfx.org), the middle column contains the top level categorization (plus in the current kmenu arrangment there are also the control center, home folder and find files, but i think there should be present only categories). in the left-most listview there is the content of the category currently selected in the middle column. I think in this way even if it has the same number of items it _appears_ less huge than with a popup menu/submenu structure.
every items have two row, for the name and for the description, in order to make a more it more informative. On each selected item appears an action icon on the right, at the moment they are "add bookmark" on application icons and "remove bookmark" on favourite apps list.
The bottom buttons are the usual switch user, lock session and logout. In a first time I didnt want to put them, I tought that these function should be delegate to another applet like http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=26150 , but it seems that the multiple menus concept its a thing that doesnt work very well in practice, it needs more real-world testing.
The left-most btton contains the user name and icon, and clicking on it it opens the kcm used to edit the users profile. I know it seems silly, but Its only an experiment, probably it will be merged with the switch user button.
Enhancements:
- "Add to desktop" option in menuitems
- Drag and drop from menu to desktop
- Option to set different icons sizes in the three columns
- the button text label should always be of a visible color
- most used/recently used applications list updates in realtime
- clear most used/recently used applications list
- (warning1: deleting one list deletes also the other)
- (warning2: if you use opensuse you must have kickoff reverted to classic kmenu in order to use the recently used/most used lists)
- updated russian and german translations

struts timeEntry 0.2b
struts timeEntry is a self training application that developers can use while learning Apaches Struts framework. more>>
struts timeEntry project is a self training application that developers can use while learning Apaches Struts framework. Often when learning a new language, library or framework, developers find that the example code they are presented with is acedemic and "best case".
They find it difficult to locate real-world case studies in which the language, library or framework have been put into practice.
struts timeEntry stives to be a real-world application that utilizes the struts framework fully. Some project goals include:
- keep all source open
- document the code and explain what/when/why
- keep the application useful in real life
- maintain use of contemporary techniques/technologies
The list of technologies used in this project presently include:
- Sun Microsystems Java EE 5
- Apaches Struts framework
- Apaches Tomcat servlet container
- MySQLs database server
- MySQLs JDBC connector
- Bruno Lowagie & Paulo Soares itext pdf generation library
- GNUs GIMP image manipulation program
- The Eclipse IDE
Enhancements:
- The timeEntryAdmin administration module was added.
- Numerous bugs in the timeEntry client module were revolved.
- Data integrity indexes were added to the database.
- The graphics were updated.

Accelerando is a musical metronome that can speed up the music, allowing you to practice your music at progressively faster tempos.
For example, you could set it to play 60 beats per minute for 4 bars, then automatically speed up by 10 beats per minute, and so on.
It runs on Unix. It has dependencies on Perl/Tk, sox, and festival, all of which are available via Debian apt-get. To install it, download and unpack the tarball, and do a "make install".
Enhancements:
- A maximum tempo can be set.
- The tempo will then approach this limit more and more closely without ever going faster than the maximum.

cpdetector 1.05
cpdetector project is a small yet clever framework for codepage detection. more>>
cpdetector project is a small yet clever framework for codepage detection.
cpdetector is a small yet clever framework for codepage detection that integrates different strategies. It may be used as a library for third party software that accesses textual data over network.
It also includes a best-practice implementation in form of a command line tool that allows sorting and transforming large collections of documents based on their codepage.
Available strategies include: jchardet (exclusion, frequency analysis, and guessing), detection of the HTML charset property, and detection of the XML encoding declaration.
What is a code page?
At first, a textual document is nothing more than sequences of bits. A computer has to decide, how he can display this data in form of characters (which are identified by the computer as numbers).
A code page - which is also known as charset encoding - maps the raw data of a textual document to characters. The original ASCII code page for example only uses 7 bits of an octet (byte) for deciding the character that is represented thus allowing only to map 128 different characters. In the past memory was expensive and computers most often only had registers and busses for 8 bit.
When a mainframe was conceived it had to be decided, which characters it should support. Physicians and mathematicians for example needed special characters for equations. As a result, a computer often shipped with a special codepage.

pam_shield is a PAM module that uses iptables to lock out script kiddies that probe your computer for open logins and/or easy guessable passwords. The project is meant as an aid to protect public computers on the open internet.
Everybody knows it is unwise to leave computers largely unprotected connected to the internet. However, there are cases in which this is still common practice. For exampe, academic sites with hundreds of users often have a policy of allowing logins from over the world. They are under constant attack by "kiddies" trying to break in to the system by password guessing. pam_shield aims to detect and block these "kiddies".
pam_shield was developed by Walter de Jong in 2006 and 2007.

rtldi 0.94
rtldi is an ELF program interpreter for juggling multiple glibc 6 libraries. more>>
rtldi is an ELF program interpreter that enables each main executable program to use its own runtime loader and shared libraries, independent of the default versions installed in /lib, and independent of any other main executable program.
Thus rtldi facilitates the simultaneous interoperation of programs that originally were linked using different generations of glibc6. In theory glibc6 is backward compatible (a given binary executable should run correctly using any subsequent version of glibc6), but in practice there have been enough bugs and glitches at various times to require workarounds.
Example: If the PT_INTERP of an executable a.elf is /2.2.4-24/rtldi (instead of /lib/ld-linux.so.2), then the executable runs effectively as if it were invoked via
/2.2.4-24/ld-linux.so.2 --library-path /2.2.4-24:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH /path/of/execve/a.elf args... and will use /2.2.4-24/libc.so.6 for its glibc6. rtldi uses its own path prefix in PT_INTERP as the prefix for ld-linux.so.2, and as the first directory path in the colon-separated list argument following --library-path.
The --library-path argument replaces LD_LIBRARY_PATH for a.elf only, without modifying LD_LIBRARY_PATH for a.elf or for any children that a.elf may invoke. (This is a feature of ld-linux.so.2.) Also, the process name remains "a.elf".
New ELF executables can specify the runtime loader by building with -Wl,--dynamic-linker=/path/to/rtldi. Old executables that specify /lib/ld-linux.so.2 for their PT_INTERP can be modified by using a binary file editor.
Find the Offset of the INTERP string by using readelf --program-headers a.elf. The replacement string cannot be longer, and must be terminated by

Command Line WRAPper 0.3.0
Command Line WRAPper is a tool to build and run commands from input lines. more>>
Command Line WRAPper is a tool that provides an easy way to build and run commands from input lines, avoiding the use of shell script. It is similar to xargs.
clwrap can make great things with the locate command, and is low resource intensive. It can also do some not-quite-fun works like multiple configure/make/make install after a fresh system installation. In practice, you have to generate a list of files/directories you want to manage, clwrap takes it in standard input and apply the command you want to apply for each files (lines) in input.
But you can do much more, in fact, its up to you to find how to use it ;).
examples:
- copying several files into one specific directory:
locate myfiles | clwrap -e cp {} mydir/
- renaming several files:
ls -1 ultra*
| clwrap -e "echo -n mv -v {}" -e "echo {} | sed s/ultra/ /"
| clwrap -e {}
- running a specific line in the shell history:
history | grep "482" | head -n 1 | sed s/ *[0-9]* *// | clwrap -v -e {}
- try all tv norms and frequency tables possible combinations with scantv:
cat norm
| clwrap -e "cat freq | clwrap -e echo scantv -n {} -f {}"
| clwrap -e {} > file 2>&1
- reformat source code, after a backup of course:
ls -1 | clwrap -e "cp {} {}.orig && flip -u {} && cat {}
| sed s/^[ t]*$//;/^$/d
| indent -kr -bad -bap -bbb -sob -i8 -l100 {} -o {}.tmp

But you can do much more, in fact, its up to you to find how to use it ;).
examples:
- copying several files into one specific directory:
locate myfiles | clwrap -e cp {} mydir/
- renaming several files:
ls -1 ultra*
| clwrap -e "echo -n mv -v {}" -e "echo {} | sed s/ultra/ /"
| clwrap -e {}
- running a specific line in the shell history:
history | grep "482" | head -n 1 | sed s/ *[0-9]* *// | clwrap -v -e {}
- try all tv norms and frequency tables possible combinations with scantv:
cat norm
| clwrap -e "cat freq | clwrap -e echo scantv -n {} -f {}"
| clwrap -e {} > file 2>&1
- reformat source code, after a backup of course:
ls -1 | clwrap -e "cp {} {}.orig && flip -u {} && cat {}
| sed s/^[ t]*$//;/^$/d
| indent -kr -bad -bap -bbb -sob -i8 -l100 {} -o {}.tmp
&& mv {} tmp && mv {}.tmp {}"
