cpulimit is a simple program that attempts to limit the cpu usage of a process (expressed in percentage, not in cpu time). This is useful to control batch jobs, when you dont want they eat too much cpu.

cpulimit project does not act on the nice value or other scheduling priority stuff, but on the real cpu usage. Also, it is able to adapt itself to the overall system load, dynamically and quickly.

UI::Dialog 1.08

UI::Dialog 1.08

UI::Dialog project supports priority ordering of the backend detection process. more>>
UI::Dialog project supports priority ordering of the backend detection process.

SYNOPSIS

use UI::Dialog;
my $d = new UI::Dialog ( backtitle => Demo, title => Default,
height => 20, width => 65 , listheight => 5,
order => [ zenity, xdialog ] );

# Either a Zenity or Xdialog msgbox widget should popup,
# with a preference for Zenity.
$d->msgbox( title => Welcome!, text => Welcome one and all! );

ABSTRACT

UI::Dialog is a OOPerl wrapper for the various dialog applications. These dialog backends are currently supported: Zenity, XDialog, GDialog, KDialog, CDialog, and Whiptail. There is also an ASCII backend provided as a last resort interface for the console based dialog variants. UI::Dialog is a class that provides a strict interface to these various backend modules. By using UI:Dialog (with its imposed limitations on the widgets) you can ensure that your Perl program will function with any available interfaces.

So if youd prefer that Xdialog should be used first if available, simply designate the desired order when creating the new object. The default order for detecting and utilization of the backends are as follows: (with DISPLAY env): Zenity, GDialog, XDialog, KDialog (without DISPLAY): CDialog, Whiptail, ASCII

UI::Dialog is the result of a complete re-write of the UDPM CPAN module. This was done to break away from the bad choice of name (UserDialogPerlModule) and to implement a cleaner, more detached, OOPerl interface.

Spumoni 1.4

Spumoni 1.4

Spumoni provides an open framework for monitoring applications using SNMP. more>>
Spumoni enables any program which can be queried via local commands to be health-checked via SNMP. This allows admins to use enterprise-level monitoring programs such as OpenNMS, Tivoli, OpenView, MRTG and RRDTool for even non-SNMP-enabled applications.
Spumoni acheives this efficiently using a native SNMP engine coupled with a stats collection daemon. Everything is highly configurable using modular XML files. Because of this modularity, the Spumoni project also contains a repository of configuration files to make monitoring various programs easier. A complete list of config files is available in the distribution package.
Main features:
- 100% Java means it can run on almost any platform.
- Licensed under the GPL. Special licensing also available.
- Low run-time utilization (only slightly more than your stats collection programs).
- Tested on Linux and Windows 2000.
- Uses a built-in SNMP daemon, so Net-SNMP is no longer needed.
- Includes an example MRTG front-end and a collection of monitoring config files to get you started.
Enhancements:
- Native SNMP TRAP and GET (agent) capability, thanks to JoeSNMP and Bob Sniders prototype code. This means that Net-SNMP, cfget and cfcat are no longer needed, so Spumoni runs just fine on Windows. Should make it more compatable on other platforms too.
- Added init.d-style startup script
- Added Windows batch file to run Spumoni
- Lots of code style standardization (thanks Checkstyle!)
- Tightened the XML DTDs
- Added CHANGELOG (this file)
- Added HTMLized source code to docs
- Added JUnit and Checkstyle Ant tasks
- Added JUnit and Checkstyle output to docs
- Greatly improved JavaDoc
- Improved build and versioning process
- Improved documentation & web site links

Sasacct fetches traffic stats via ipchains, ipfstat, iptables, pf, Cisco IP accounting, and SNMP. more>>
Sasacct fetches traffic stats via ipchains, ipfstat, iptables, pf, Cisco IP accounting, and SNMP. [COPYRIGHT=]

Using external program you have 4 options:
a) Linux 2.2.x with ipchains
b) Linux 2.4.x with iptables
c) OpenBSD using Daren Reeds ipf
d) OpenBSD >= 3.0 with pf

Using SNMP you have 2 options for accounting:
a) query the router for byte counters for specific interface
b) if your router is cisco you can use the ip accounting feature
and get a table with source and destination ips and a byte counter
and extract the needed information.

For displaying the collected information sasacct has cgi-script with username/password authentication which can display the data on a per daily basis generating
on-the-fly graphics with bandwith utilization. It can also generate static bandwith utilization graphics on 5 minutes interval. Information on how to configure SASacct is included
in the package.

UMLMON 1.0.3

UMLMON 1.0.3

UMLMON is a complete run time environment for User Mode Linux. more>>
UMLMON is a complete run time environment for User Mode Linux. There is a separate monitor daemon for every VM.
UMLMON project creates the run time environment and starts the VM by executing the UML kernel. The daemon also determines the arguments that are passed to the UML kernel, and includes special support to set up arguments for memory size, virtual disks, virtual network interfaces, and console channels in a convenient way.
UMLMON also includes routines to do certain administration tasks like the creation of disks.
The team UMLMON + UML can be applied in the following areas:
- Server consolidation: Improve the utilization of server hardware, and ease the operation of servers.
- Virtual security zones: Instead of building demilitarized zones (DMZ) with real hardware, it is a cost-effective alternative to set up purely virtual DMZs on a single host.
- Virtual hosting: A cheap version of server hosting is virtual hosting; instead of leasing real computers to customers, virtual machines are used.
- Laboratory nets: By using virtual machines it is possible to build cheap laboratory nets, e.g. to test software in real network environments.
- Training environments: One can use virtual machines for Linux trainings where participants can get true administrators priviledges without any risks.
Enhancements:
- This release no longer call the problematic glibc function getgrouplist, which is often broken (symptom: segmentation fault immediately after starting umlmon).

Aero AIO: cpu/mem plugin mod is a mod of the cpu/memory plugin for aero aio. more>>
Aero AIO: cpu/mem plugin mod is a mod of the cpu/memory plugin for aero aio. The hardware information is gathered via backends. You can easily write a python backend for your hardware.
Look at the files cpumemv2_backend.py, cpumemv2_default.py and cpumemv2_i8k.py to learn how to write backends.
Main features:
- default backend that supports CPU temeratures via /proc/acpi/thermal_zone and hard disk temperatures via hddtemp. You can start hddtemp by (as root)
- hddtemp -d /dev/hda
- Replace hda with the hard disk you want monitored.
- ibmacpi backend (for IBM laptops). Thanks to Frank Fiene. Supports CPU, GPU, hdd, fan and pci data, via the ibm acpi kernel module. Boy those IBM laptops have a lot of sensors!
- i8k backend (for Dell laptops). Supports cpu temp and fan speeds via the i8k kernel module.
- The backends are cascaded. The code automatically looks through all backends for support of each feature. the final feature set is the union of all backends
- If an update temporarily fails (this tends to happen with hddtemp), it is indicated on the theme by the : in front of the sensor name becoming an _
