Visprint 2.1
Visprint makes fractal fingerprint png images based on the contents of any file. more>>
Visprint project makes fractal fingerprint png images based on the contents of any file. The image will be different for almost every file with even slightly different contents. Visprint uses the IFS fractal generation process, pioneered by Michael Barnsley. It is a way to create images which are self-similar to infinite depths. In other words, the picture is made up of smaller versions of itself.
The original code was written by Ian Goldberg, based on an idea by Hal Finney, in a post to the coderpunks mailing list. The most excellent color enhancements were added by Raph Levien. David Johnston made a port for Win95 console mode and added a bunch of nice features. Soren Andersen developed the png and transparency code.
I decided to rescue the orphaned code from oblivion, clean it up, document it and maintain it. As far as I know, there is no copyright infringement. The code has always been freely available in the net and the previous authors are properly acknowledged.
So... What about security?
Visprint is just a "toy" program that generates cool graphics. The purpose is to serve as a fun graphic complement to md5 checksums. In no way whatsoever should it be used as a stand-alone security tool. Its not intended to be a substitute for any file checker. Even though it can be used to check differences in files and it uses a cryptographic hash function (md5) as its input, it has not been designed nor tested with heavy security use in mind.
Enhancements:
- The option of using different hash functions as input was added with the -l switch.
- The option of using an alternate color scheme by flipping RGB to BGR was added with the -c switch.
- The grayscale color scheme was polished and fixed.
- The previous -c switch was renamed to -a (area coloring scheme).
- A bug in the transparency code was fixed.
- The man page and the help screen were updated.
- Some minor bugfixes and code cleanups were done.

pciutils 2.2.0
pciutils is a set of programs for listing PCI devices, inspecting their status and setting their configuration registers. more>>
pciutils is a set of programs for listing PCI devices, inspecting their status and setting their configuration registers.
Currently, pciutils work on all versions of Linux and they also have somewhat experimental support for FreeBSD, NetBSD, AIX, GNU Hurd and Solaris/x86. It should be very easy to add support for other systems as well (volunteers wanted; if you want to try that, Ill be very glad to see the patches and include them in the next version).
Enhancements:
- pci.ids: Updated copyright header.
- lib/sysfs.c (sysfs_get_resources): Removed warning about unsupported 64-bit addresses, they are now always supported.
- lspci.c (show_bases): Corrected printing of 64-bit addresses in bus-centric mode.
- lib/configure: Enable 64-bit addresses on all Linux systems.
- lib/types.h: Dont pad 64-bit addresses to 16 xigits, only to 8 if they are shorter.

phpftp 2.2
phpftp is a Web-based FTP client. more>>
This is an FTP client implemented in PHP. It is freely distributed under a BSD-style copyright, which you will find in the source.
Version restrictions:
- If youre using PHP 3, you must have version 3.0.17 or higher to run this software. If youre using PHP 4, you must have 4.0.3 or higher.
Enhancements:
- Added more configurable items, such as the temporary directory and the maximum upload file size, since users seem to be changing these values frequently.
- Fixed nasty easily-exploited security hole in phpftp_put() function. This creates a dependency on the is_uploaded_file() PHP function.
- PHP 3 users must have version 3.0.17 or higher, and PHP 4 users must have version 4.0.3 or higher in order to have that function.
- Users will not notice any new functionality in the 2.2 release - no features have been added.

Sophster 0.9
Sophster is an HTTP server that provides access to the Linux server its running on. more>>
Sophster is an HTTP server that provides access to the Linux server its running on. I have too many ideas for programs to code than I have time for. I initially started coding a CGI script to manage classrooms and administer tests, but at some point stopped and started working on a full HTTP server implementation. I do nearly all my personal interest programming in C/C++ on Linux. Also, I program stuff at work, but none of it is for Linux.
Ive been programming my HTTP server since the second half of 2000. I have a significant amount of documentation. Im currently in the process of submitting it to the US copyright office. It is geared towards "web" application programming. Copyright office claims about 6 weeks to 6 months to process a claim. Legally I have copyright protection just by creating the software. The copyright office sets a public record, whereas without it I would have to show some proof that I created it, such as the source code.
I completed two additional add-in programs for the HTTP server. The first is a basic To Do List, very simple program. The second implements screen captures from a video for linux based capture card. I havent written any documentation for either, but both are stable. I havent decided when to include them in the free binary.
Originally, my next programming project was going to be a proof of concept video game idea that Ive had for a number of years. I planned on illustrating at one of the gaming conferences. Im not sure when Ill ever get around to this project. I think I may just post the plans.

jasciimovie 2.0
jasciimovie plays ASCII movies - sequences of digitized video converted into an ASCII representation - in a webbrowser via Java. more>>
jasciimovie plays ASCII movies - sequences of digitized video converted into an ASCII representation - in a webbrowser via Java.
An ascii-movie is a plain text file of screens seperated by escape codes for clearing the screen (in hex notation 1B 5B 48 1B 5B 4A).
These ascii-movies can get produced by the asciivideo sample program that is
included with the "libbgrab" package by me.
The movie files have to be compressed with "gzip -9" which saves incredible
amounts of space.
Compilation and Usage:
- Prerequisites: JDK 1.1.x+ installed and in the path
- To compile type: make
- To test: fire up a java-capable browser with the file jasciimovie.html
See the file jasciimovie.html for how to incorporate the applet in your webpage.
Configurable parameters are: the filename (the movie file must be in the same directory as the .html file), the fontsize (usable are 8,10,12,14), a flag of the movies gets repeated at the end, the frame rate and the colors.
The program tries to center the ascii-movie within the applet.
A copyright message is beeing displayed for 2 seconds at the beginning of playback.
A sample movie (cfilm.txt.gz) is included - look at the file also with "zless cfilm.txt.gz" to see the individual frames.

<<lessAn ascii-movie is a plain text file of screens seperated by escape codes for clearing the screen (in hex notation 1B 5B 48 1B 5B 4A).
