WordNet 3.0

WordNet 3.0

WordNet is a lexical database for the English language. more>>
WordNet project is a large lexical database of English, developed under the direction of George A. Miller. Nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are grouped into sets of cognitive synonyms (synsets), each expressing a distinct concept. Synsets are interlinked by means of conceptual-semantic and lexical relations.
The resulting network of meaningfully related words and concepts can be navigated with the browser. WordNet is also freely and publicly available for download. WordNets structure makes it a useful tool for computational linguistics and natural language processing.

OMCSNetCPP 1.1b

OMCSNetCPP 1.1b

OMCSNetCPP is a C++ API / Inference Toolkit for OMCSNet. more>>
OMCSNetCPP is a C++ API / Inference Toolkit for OMCSNet.
OMCSNetCPP is a C++ API and inference toolkit for accessing OMCSNet, a semantic network mined out of the Open Mind Common Sense knowledge base.
This project is based on OMCSNet 1.2, a semantic network and inference toolkit written in Python/Java by Hugo Liu and Push Singh of the MIT Media Lab. OMCSNet currently contains over 280,000 separate pieces of common sense information extracted from the raw OMCS dataset.
The goal of this project is to provide a class library that allows programmers to easily add common sense reasoning capabilities to C++ applications. Common sense reasoning is something that human beings take for granted, but it is a task that computers have a hard time performing. Using the OMCSNetCPP toolkit, C++ developers can allow their applications to utilize the largest publicly available database of common sense reasoning information.
Why add common sense?
Many applications can benefit from the utilization of common sense reasoning. Data entry applications could use such capabilities to automatically spot certain types of entry error. Voice recognition programs could improve accuracy through the utilization of contextual information. Credit fraud detection software could spot purchases not fitting a customer profile. By adding such reasoning capabilities to software, we can make software more intelligent...more human.
Main features:
- C++ API for accessing the OMCSNet data
- Parsing of raw predicates.txt data into optimized binary representation
- Searching the semantic network for a specific concept
- Finding all semantic paths between two concepts in the network
- Finding all concepts within the semantic context of one or more concepts
- Finding all concepts that are analogous to a concept
- Speed
Enhancements:
- This is a minor release containing several bugfixes for certain issues related to Boost compilation and predicates.dat loading.

Falcon Firewall Project 0.1.5

Falcon Firewall Project 0.1.5

The Falcon project is an open firewall project with the intention of developing an independent firewall system. more>>
The Falcon project is an open firewall project with the intention of developing an independent firewall system. [COPYRIGHT-1]

Falcon consists of different modules:
Falcons own proxies (generic TCP-Proxy and application specific proxies)
Squid for web access and caching (modified package for Linux)
BIND-8 for nameservice (coming soon)
qmail for mail communication
OS hardening (coming later)

The concept behind Falcon is pretty simple. It consists of three main parts:

Self-written proxy applications and configure-/logging facilities. These are all
written in Perl.

Third party applications like BIND, Squid, Qmail.

Concepts/instructions/tools for hardening the OS you want to run Falcon on.

Some third party proxies maybe replaced by self-written ones in the future (its up to you

Newts is a modern, actively-maintained implementation of notesfiles, a concept which is half Usenet and half bulletin board. more>>
Newts project is a modern, actively-maintained implementation of notesfiles, a concept which is half Usenet and half bulletin board.
Notesfiles were developed in the later 1970s at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Newts attempts to closely resemble the functionality of the Unix port of notesfiles from UIUC, and is compatible with the data files used by that port.
Newts is written for Unix-like systems, and is known to run on various flavors of Linux, Mac OS X, and probably most other Unixes.
Future versions of Newts will include a separate daemon to manage multiple local and network connections, additional backends, and additional clients.
Enhancements:
- Various memory-related and segfault bugfixes in the utilities and main client.
- This release contains a first draft of a new client API, but that API is not yet recommended for public use.

mod_stencil 0.1

mod_stencil 0.1

mod_stencil is intended as the reverse of server-side includes / mod_include. more>>
mod_stencil is intended as the "reverse" of server-side includes / mod_include: Instead of having each file include a standard header/footer, all you do is specify the data in the datafile.

When this datafile is requested, mod_stencil will open the stencil/template file, and substitue the data values from the requested value into the stencil. The result is sent to the user.

This module is similar in concept as mod_design, however this is as an Apache 2 module instead of an Apache 1 module.

KBoot 11

KBoot 11

KBoot project is a proof-of-concept implementation of a Linux boot loader based on kexec. more>>
KBoot project is a proof-of-concept implementation of a Linux boot loader based on kexec. KBoot uses a boot loader like LILO or GRUB to load a regular Linux kernel as its first stage. Then, the full capabilities of the kernel can be used to locate and to access the kernel to be booted.
KBoot integrates the various components needed for a fully featured boot loader, and demonstrates their use. While the main focus is on basic technical functionality, KBoot can serve as a starting point for customized boot environments offering additional features.
Main features:
- supports most file systems and device drivers the Linux kernel supports
- transparent navigation in the file system of the booted system, including auto-mounting guided by /etc/fstab
- network configuration is either manual or with DHCP, including name resolution via /etc/hosts and DNS
- access to file systems via NFS
- access to files via HTTP, FTP, and TFTP
- inbound and outbound SSH (to and from the boot loader)
Enhancements:
New features:
- pressing Ctrl-C before the KBoot prompt is shown now starts an emergency shell (based on suggestions by Brent Baude)
- README: added a troubleshooting section explaining how to get a shell if things turn sour
Changes:
- upgraded to the 2.6.19.2 kernel
- upgraded to Busybox 1.3.1
- patches/busybox-noshadow.patch: fix Busybox build without shadow passwords (from PLD Linux)
- scripts/KBoot: start udhcpc with -n instead of --now, since the latter is no longer recognized
- upgraded to udev 104
- Makefile: recent versions of udev arent stripped, so we do this

Net::Server is an extensible, generic Perl server engine. Net::Server combines the good properties from Net::Daemon (0.34), NetServer::Generic (1.03), and Net::FTPServer (1.0), and also from various concepts in the Apache Webserver.
Net::Server attempts to be a generic server as in Net::Daemon and NetServer::Generic. It includes with it the ability to run as an inetd process (Net::Server::INET), a single connection server (Net::Server or Net::Server::Single), a forking server (Net::Server::Fork), a preforking server which maintains a constant number of preforked children (Net::Server::PreForkSimple), or as a managed preforking server which maintains the number of children based on server load (Net::Server::PreFork). In all but the inetd type, the server provides the ability to connect to one or to multiple server ports.
Net::Server uses ideologies of Net::FTPServer in order to provide extensibility. The additional server types are made possible via "personalities" or sub classes of the Net::Server. By moving the multiple types of servers out of the main Net::Server class, the Net::Server concept is easily extended to other types (in the near future, we would like to add a "Thread" personality).
Net::Server borrows several concepts from the Apache Webserver. Net::Server uses "hooks" to allow custom servers such as SMTP, HTTP, POP3, etc. to be layered over the base Net::Server class. In addition the Net::Server::PreFork class borrows concepts of min_start_servers, max_servers, and min_waiting servers.
Net::Server::PreFork also uses the concept of an flock serialized accept when accepting on multiple ports (PreFork can choose between flock, IPC::Semaphore, and pipe to control serialization).
