Computation Job Management 0.6

Computation Job Management 0.6

Computation Job Management (jobman in short) is a program that calls executables according to a given program flow. more>>
Computation Job Management (jobman in short) is a program that calls executables according to a given program flow. Each executable is run in a separate process. It is useful when a project needs to carry out a series of calculations that are performed by software written in different languages or supplied by third parties, but invoking individual programs manually is error prone and hard to manage.
The various individual programs dont communicate with each other except via persistent storage. This is especially the case for some scientific computing, quantitative finance, and prototyped programming.
Enhancements:
- A job can output a status string indicating to skip other sibling jobs.
- Fixed a number of bugs.
- Mark the program in beta status as it has been used to manage jobs completed in days.

Go-moku Apprentice project consists of a gomoku player learning from its own mistakes.
Thus, for starters it plays like crap, but it gets real good after only a few games. Its rather scary actually.
Enhancements:
- With version 0.5, the apprentice playing engine has improved somewhat.
- Making a winning move always gets a score of INT_MAX, and making a losing move always gets a score of INT_MIN.
- The improved playing engine cost me some computing power, but Ive also been playing with gprof which should negate that effect somewhat.

VCG TriMeshInfo 1.2

VCG TriMeshInfo 1.2

VCG TriMeshInfo is a tool designed to inspect 3D models and retrieve many types of topological and geometrical information. more>>
VCG TriMeshInfo is a tool designed to inspect 3D models and retrieve many types of topological and geometrical information from them.
It can be used to automate the process of decoding 3D mesh inherent properties and ease data classification and retrieval.
For each analyzed dataset, the following data are extracted:
- Number of Vertices (Unreferenced vertices are listed separately)
- Number of Faces
- Number of Edges
- Number of Connected Components
- Number of Boundaries
- Number of Isolated Vertices (i.e. Unreferenced)
- Manifold
- Genus (Computed only for Manifold Datasets)
- Orientability
- Orientation
- Regularity (We consider as regular those meshes generated through regular subdivision. Each non boundary vertex of a regular mesh has 6 incident edges, if there are only 5 incident edges the mesh is said to be semi-regular, irregular in all other cases)
- Number of Duplicated Vertices
- Self-Intersection (Currently computed only for Datasets with less than 3M faces)
Enhancements:
- This release included a major rewrite of the core component for computing geometrical and topological features of the analyzed mesh.
- Important changes included speeded up self-intersection tests, more robust (and correct) computation of topological genus and volume, and more flexible output with an HTML output option.

PyLinda 0.5.1

PyLinda 0.5.1

Linda is a widely studied distributed computing environment, centered around the notion of a tuple space. more>>
Linda is an widely studied distributed computing environment, centered around the notion of a tuple space. A tuple space is a bag (also called a multi-set) of tuples.

A tuple is an ordered, typed chunk of data. Tuple spaces exist independently of processes in the system, and the data placed into a tuple space also exist independently. See "Generative communication in Linda" (1985) and "Multiple tuple spaces in Linda" both by David Gelernter for more information on Linda.

PyLinda is a simple implementation of a linda system, however it also includes several of the more recently proposed extensions to Linda in the form of multiple tuple spaces, garbage collection, sane non-blocking primitives and bulk tuple operations.

PhiloLogic 3.1

PhiloLogic 3.1

PhiloLogic is a full-text database engine developed for humanities computing text analysis by the ARTFL Project. more>>
PhiloLogic is the primary full-text search, retrieval and analysis tool developed by the ARTFL Project and the Digital Library Development Center (DLDC) at the University of Chicago. PhiloLogic is a Free Software implementation of PhiloLogic for large TEI-Lite document collections.
The wide array of XML data specifications and the recent deployment of basic XML processing tools provides an important opportunity for the collaborative development of higher-level, interoperable tools for Humanities Computing applications. The sophistication and power of the TEI-XML encoding specification supports the development of extremely rich textual data representations that encourage, if not require, development of sets of tools to exploit features of encoded text to perform particular tasks.
It may be the case that one general tool will never fit all possible uses for encoded documents, but that a set of more specialized, interoperable tools for end-user applications will provide a mechanism for cost-effective deployment of end-user applications.
As the ARTFL Projects contribution to the collaborative development of these tools, PhiloLogic has been enhanced to support a wide variety of TEI-Lite (XML and SGML) encoded documents optionally using the Unicode character specification. We feel that Humanities Computing applications are particularly well suited to open source development by a community with wide ranging technical abilities that is not well supported by the commercial sector. Our goal is to provide as many features as possible while not requiring significant administrative or development work to use effectively.
Originally implemented to support large databases of French literature, PhiloLogic has been extended to support a wide variety of textual and hypermedia databases in collaboration with numerous academic institutions and, more recently, commercial organizations.
PhiloLogic is a modular system, in which a textbase is treated as a set of coordinated or related databases, typically including an object (units of text such as a letter, scene, document, etc) database, a word forms database, a word concordance index mapped to textual objects, and an object manager mapping text objects to byte offsets in data files. Each of these databases is stored and managed using its own subsystem.
Main features:
- light, fast, robust, extensively used and tested
- few dependencies, basic installation almost wholly self-contained
- out of the box operation with many configuration options
- TEI-Lite XML/SGML with Unicode support
- MySQL back-end for bibliographic searching
- optional XML-aware or non-XML bibliographic loaders
- interoperability across certain systems
- fault tolerant
- open source
Enhancements:
- CGIs have been modified to support multilingual user interfaces.
- 300 system messages have been translated into French and modularized into language-specific arrays.
- Word padding in KWIC reports has been fixed.

KBoincSpy 0.9.1

KBoincSpy 0.9.1

KBoincSpy is a KDE monitor and control utility for the BOINC distributed client. more>>
KBoincSpy is a KDE monitor and control utility for the BOINC client. KBoincSpy displays a lot of useful information about the computation of work units, such as the percent of work done, and estimates of the completion time and credits granted.
For some projects like SETI@home and ClimatePrediction.net, it also reports some interesting data about the content and significance of each work unit being analyzed.
It can be also used to control the behavior of the BOINC client, allowing the user to attach to (as well as detach from) projects, start/stop the computation, or suspend all network communications.
Its interface design was inspired by SETI Spy, a Windows monitoring utility for SETI@home Classic written by Roelof Engelbrecht.
The Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing is a software platform for distributed computing. It enables organizations who oversee scientific projects requiring extensive computing resources to easily set up and maintain a distributed computing infrastructure.
By downloading the BOINC distributed computing client, each of the hundreds of thousands of participants worldwide can select the scientific projects more to his/her liking and assign some computing resources to them.
Enhancements:
- This release focuses on reaching almost feature parity with the latest BOINC client from Berkeley (the 5.x series).
- Among the new features were an attach-to-project wizard, host and user statistics graphs, and Web links.
- This version also features new translations to eight languages. Precompiled packages are available for the x86 and x86-64 architecture versions of the Fedora, Gentoo, Mandriva, Slackware, and SuSE Linux distributions.
